During the Qajar period from 1785-1925 CE, Iranian artists absorbed European artistic influences while still employing Iranian traditions in their works. Mahmoud Khān Malek al-Sho‘arā was especially important for his unique style blending European techniques with Iranian visual traditions in his watercolor and oil paintings. However, his art and potential influence were overshadowed by the social disruption of the period and the predominant school of Kamāl al-Molk. The documentary Estensākh aims to appreciate Mahmoud Khān's true place in Iran's art history by illuminating his life, times, and contributions.
