out?More recently,cinemashave beenshuttingdowndue tolackof customers.Whyisthis?The
productionof filmsisonlyincreasing,sowhyaren'tfilm-watchersflockingtotheirnearestcinemain
droves?The answeristhis:people don’tfeelthe needtopayforan overly-pricedtickettowatcha
filmtheycan’tconnectwith.Whynot justwatch the filmat home,where youdon’tneedtofeel a
deep,bone-achingregretthatyou spenthalf of yourlife savingsona tickettosee a, at best,
mediocre film?Thisisourcurrentproblem, andtoget an insightintothe brainsof the people who
have triedto fix this,Katie White andGeorgiaDavies,the directorsof WhatLurksInside (2016), are
here to enlightenusaboutthe dire situation.
Interviewer:Goodmorning!Thankyouforbeingable tojoinustoday.We know youhave a very
busyschedule,whatwithyourfilmnewlyreleased.
White:It’sno problem.We’ve actuallybeenquite excitedtoexplainourthoughtsbehindWhatLurks
Inside andhowwe are hopingitwill be the startto revivingcinemaagain.
Interviewer:Well,togetstraightto the point,whathave youdone to combat the decliningnumber
of cinema-goers?Doyouthinkthere isa particularreasonforthis?
Davies:Ithas beencommonknowledge thatnowadays,filmsare made forthe sake of beingmade,
and to include the biggestnamesinthe filmindustry.Whathappenedtofilmsleavingyouraw and
emotional afteryouwatchthem,makingyoufeel something,explicitly,orcreatingabeautiful piece
of cinematography?There aren'tanyconnectionsbetweenthe filmandthe audience anymore,
which,inmy opinion,isthe majordilemma.
White:I agree.Because of thissilence andnothingnessbetweenthe audience andthe movie,people
don’twant to pay the moneyto watchfilms.Theythink,isitworthit?And to be honest,Idon’tthink
it is.
Interviewer:Somuchtruthin justa couple of minutes!Whathave youdone,then,tocoax film-
watchersback to cinemas?
Davies:We’ve done whatothershaven'tdone inawhile.We are targetingouraudience directlyin
orderto make our filmworthyof payingthe price of a cinematicket.
White:Exactly.Forexample,we’ve targeteddifferentsocial groupsbyincludingawide range of
characters of all gendersandbackgrounds.The people needrepresentation,andIthinkit’sabout
time,don’tyou?
Davies:Definitely.The protagonistsof the filmare all teenagers,frommiddle-classbackgroundsand
are a mix of male and female.Ouraudience,whoconformtothese things,will hopefullybe able to
connectwiththe characters inthe film,andconsequently,re-ignite the fire of cinema.

Interviewer:Well,togetstraightto the point,whathave youdone to combat the decliningnumber of cinema-goers?Doyouthinkthere isa particularreasonforthis? Davies:Ithas beencommonknowledge thatnowadays,filmsare made forthe sake of beingmade, and to include the biggestnamesinthe filmindustry.Whathappenedtofilmsleavingyouraw and emotional afteryouwatchthem,makingyoufeel something,explicitly,orcreatingabeautiful piece of cinematography?There aren'tanyconnectionsbetweenthe filmandthe audience anymore, which,inmy opinion,isthe majordilemma. White:I agree.Because of thissilence andnothingnessbetweenthe audience andthe movie,people don’twant to pay the moneyto watchfilms.Theythink,isitworthit?And to be honest,Idon’tthink it is. Interviewer:Somuchtruthin justa couple of minutes!Whathave youdone,then,tocoax film- watchersback to cinemas? Davies:We’ve done whatothershaven'tdone inawhile.We are targetingouraudience directlyin orderto make our filmworthyof payingthe price of a cinematicket. White:Exactly.Forexample,we’ve targeteddifferentsocial groupsbyincludingawide range of characters of all gendersandbackgrounds.The people needrepresentation,andIthinkit’sabout time,don’tyou? Davies:Definitely.The protagonistsof the filmare all teenagers,frommiddle-classbackgroundsand are a mix of male and female.Ouraudience,whoconformtothese things,will hopefullybe able to connectwiththe characters inthe film,andconsequently,re-ignite the fire of cinema.
