3. Screenshot 1 – Title of the film
This frame shows the title of our film clearly and with an effect showing all
of the protagonist characters behind.
We chose this style of title as it shows all of the protagonist characters.
The main character, Micky G, is positioned in the centre of their title
showing his importance and the status of the other characters around him.
4. Screenshot 2 – Setting/Location
This frame shows the location/setting we used and how enclosed the
secret location the team uses for their planning.
We used an establishing shot to express as much of the location we could.
It also has all the characters walking towards the camera.
5. Screenshot 3 – Costumes and Props
This frame shows the some of the props we used in our opening.
Here, we see Danny Wade’s poker chips and cards, clearly stating his
occupation within the group.
The use of props is important as it helps to show what characters do,
inforce the setting and plot of the film.
6. Screenshot 4 – Camerawork and
Editing
This frame here shoes a close up shot of some poker chips showing the
use of camera work in our opening.
Also, it is presented in black and white, portraying the editing in our
opening, editing the colours of the shot.
We chose to use a variety of camerawork and editing in our piece as it
gives a sense of reality and professionalism in our opening.
7. Screenshot 5 – Title Font and style
This frame here shows the title font and style we used in our opening titles
throughout the start of the opening.
We decided to use simple colours and font style as we thought it related
to our genre and conformed to the rest of the piece.
8. Screenshot 6 – Story and how the
opening sets it up
The frame above shows how we decided to tease the story into the
opening with the use of one object.
We decided to use a briefcase as its suspicious and those ones are
commonly known to contain money but the audience doesn't know, they
are intrigued.
It also conforms to our genre.
9. Screenshot 7 – Genre and how the
opening suggests it
The frame above demonstrates how we introduce the genre of our film
with use of a short take of the cocking of a gun.
This shows the audience what time of genre it is as well as all the other
short takes involved giving the, a sense of what is about to happen in the
film.
For this idea we analysed big films and a lot of them introduced the thriller
genre this way.
10. Screenshot 8 – How characters are
introduced
This frame shows how certain characters are introduced throughout our
opening.
Each character is introduced through a variety of short takes that show
what their occupation is within the group.
We got this idea from a variety of thriller hustle type films and TV shows
which also use this technique.
11. Screenshot 9 – Special effects
The frame above shows the use of special effects we used in our opening.
Each character has this effect on them, giving them a special feel and to
knows the importance of each one.
We used this idea from a variety of films we analysed and thought it was a
good technique which looked professional.
Editor's Notes
This frame shows our main title ‘The Big Score’ on top of a black screen with the letters transparent showing the characters behind at the end of the final shot. We used this title style as it clearly shows all the characters and the importance and the role of each one with their chosen props. It also leads into the rest of the film clearly informing the audience of their main characters. Also it shows our main character Micky G, in the centre of the frame and with his own letter revealing him.
This frame shows the setting/location of the opening of our film. We have used an establishing shot to show a wide angle of the location as well as including all the characters walking towards the camera, telling the viewer that this is their secret location for planning. We have chosen this location as it emphasises the security due to the fencing on the side and the secrecy of the setting to tell the viewer that this is the team’s main base of operations for planning. It also gives an insight to all the characters in one shot together, as a team.
This frame states a variety of props we sued in our opening. We used a wide range of them and this is just one frame stating what we used. Here, we can see that we used poker chips and cards to show the occupation of Danny Wade (Rob Hunt’s character) which is clear to see. We used a lot of props within our film as it is very important to give an insight into the depth of the opening and to know more about the characters and the setting.
This frame shows our use of camerawork and editing in our piece as we have used a close up of the poker chips. To show editing in this frame, after we shot it and imported it into Adobe Premier Pro, we changed the colour of the shot to black and white to add effects. The use of camerawork and editing is very important in our piece as we have used a variety of them both, from pull push focus to establishing shots to zooming. This is important as it gives it a more professional look and look much better quality.
This frame here shows the title font and style we used in our opening titles throughout the start of the opening which showed the director, producer etc. We decided to use simple colours and a font style as we thought it related to our genre and conformed to the rest of the piece. Also, we analysed a few other films distributed by the big six that were similar to our gender, which also had similar titles so we decided to follow them and use the same technique.
This frame shows how we decided to tease the story into the opening with the use of one object, a briefcase. We decided to use a briefcase as it gives off a suspicious concept and those ones are commonly known to contain money but the audience doesn't know, they are intrigued which hooks them in. It also conforms to our genre as it may be part of the score and many thriller films similar to our own, contain these briefcases that the leader holds and has control over.
This frame helps to demonstrate the genre of our film through the use of the prop of a handgun. This simple short take introduces the genre with the cocking of the gun, allowing the audience to know what genre the film is and what to expect. Also, we have included many other takes like this right at the start of the opening so the audience know what to expect. We got this idea from analysing lots of thriller films that were successful and this was a common way in which they introduced the genre of their film.
This frame shows how certain characters are introduced throughout our opening showing on of the occupations one of the characters has. Each character is introduced this way through a variety of short takes that show what their occupation is within the group. We got this idea from a variety of thriller hustle type films and TV shows which also use this technique. It allows the audience to analyse the characters for themselves and to know what each character does.
This frame shows the use of special effects we used in our opening. We used the programme Adobe Photoshop which allowed us to add the special effects to the still image of each character. We used this effect on each character as it is the first time the audience sees their faces, revealing their identity. The use of the name in bold also reveals more to the audience, and more about the character and is another use of special effects. We came across this idea from a variety of films and TV shows conforming to our genre.
