Final Theatrical Trailer
        By Jamie Read
The Reasons

• The purpose of this slideshow is to show
the reasoning behind certain things that I
  did in my trailer.
Titles
Opening Title
• I made my ident the opening
title so that people knew who
    created the film.

• The fact it moves towards the
    audience makes it seem
    dominating.

• There is a fog effect with a
cloud sound too to add an
    eery feel.
Phrases
• I chose to have phrases of
text to break up the video.

• It also gave me ideal
    opportunities to do
    voiceovers.

• Phrases of text also hint
    about the characters and
what the film will be about.
Actors

• The actor names are on a
    different transition to the
    zooming of the phrases.

• The converging of the letters
    is quite supernatural and this
    works well with the gothic
    theme I have gone with.
Movie Name

• The Watching title is at the
end as I don’t want to give
away what the film is at the
    start of the trailer.

• It has fog effect and cloudy
    sounds like the ident.
Transitions
Fade Out
• As the hand was supernatural
I had the fade out to show
    that it was leaving.

• It helps make the hand look
    spooky and leaves the
    audience wondering about it.

• I left a blank space after the
fade to show a time change.
Cross Dissolve

• I used this transition to
    show a change in time.

• I could have left a blank
    space like some trailers
but due to the fact it
    was a very small amount
    of time cross dissolve
    worked well.
Disintegrate
• I used this as it looks
    quite violent.

• The scene leading to it is
    of the female grabbing
    the man by the throat.

• Having the text torn
    from the screen to
    reveal this is a good
    effect to have.
Video Effects
Black and White
• To show how my female
    character is a ghost I
    decided to use the black
    and white video effect.

• Whenever she appears
    she is black and white
    and keeping that
    continuity shows that
she is out of the real
    world.
Flash
• I used this effect to show
    violence.

• When the man is hit at the
    same time as an impact
    there is a flash effect.

• This demonstrates to the
    audiences the violence and
gives the impression it is a
    damaging attack.
Slow
• This video effect was used to make
    the man look intimidating.

• I did it with a shot where the man is
breaking the 4th wall. His violent
potential are shown to the audience
    through this.

• I let the clip cut his head off when
walking towards the camera to give
the impression he is suffocating the
    audience.

• This makes him appear very
    powerful.
Audio Effects
The Watching Music

• This is constant
    throughout the trailer.

• It’s there to add a
    spooky feeling to the
    movie trailer.

• It isn’t very loud as it is
    only there for effect.
Voiceover

• A voiceover was done
    for the phrases.

• This way the trailer
    makes sense even if
    someone missed or is
    unable to read the
    phrases.
Heartbeat

• I added this effect from
    iMovie.

• I used it when the girl
    realises something is
    wrong.

• The sound shows the
    panic that she is feeling.
Cold Wind
• This is used at the start of
    the movie.

• I used it through the ident
    and the establishing shots.

• It makes the area appear
    dark and gothic.

• It is an easy way of making
    the shots seems spooky.
Scary Accent
• I used this every time the
    ghost appeared - after the
    hand slapped the glass.

• I didn’t use this early on
    as there was no indication
    she was a supernatural
    being.

• The accent alerts the
    audience to her
    supernatural presence.
Foreboding
• This sound effect was
    used once.

• I used it when the girl
    was approaching the
    man.

• I did this to show that
    there would be
    something bad going to
    happen.
