Case Study of Terrorism Essay
On September 11, 2001, the United States (U.S.) experienced an act of overt terrorism
unparalleled in its history. The extremist terrorist group, al Qaeda, attacked the U.S and briefly
paralyzed a nation. This was a physical attack on the US, but in retrospect, a global attack on
democracy. The U.S. and its coalition partners came to the realization that this act of terrorism was
potentially a precursor to an asymmetric warfare campaign that had global impact. After carefully
analyzing the magnitude of this event, the U.S. realized this could not be a unilateral effort; it had
to seek support from its partners in countering terror campaigns worldwide. In support of the U.S.
efforts, the Air Force (AF) should build partnership... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

personnel. Air National Guard (ANG) personnel attend ACSC, with very few, if any, Army NG

ACSC, U.S. military forces possess the skills and knowledge to fill squadron commander positions
and operational staff level jobs supporting Combatant Commanders, Joint Staff, Air Staff, and
senior level interagency officials. According to Brigadier General Jimmie Jackson, Jr., then ACSC
Commandant, he testified to Congress on June 25, 2009 that since 1946 approximately 2,500 IO s
from 92 nations graduated from the college and later became Chiefs of Staff, Heads of State,
Ministers, Ambassadors, or members of Parliament . Because many of these IO s become
prominent figures in their government, it s possible that information shared and relationships
cultivated while attending ACSC could help influence their views about the U.S. In Phase I, as part
of its initial indoctrination process, ACSC should assign Guardsmen and IO s from partnering
nations in the same classroom during the

Miles Davis, Miles. Davis
Biography of Miles Davis
Miles Dewey Davis the Third was a musician; composer; genius. Davis wrote a large portion of
the music he played and he did not care what people thought about his music. Do not fear
mistakes, there are none. (Miles Davis 29). The amount of skill Davis must have had to keep on
creating new, original, different music is far beyond many people. Davis is one of the main
contributing factors to change jazz. He, alone, has made his own style, the Cool Jazz genre (Karl
Scarborough 26). Davis is surely one of the reasons I believe jazz is here to stay for a long time,
and Davis thought so too. In Davis life, he has done many great things and experienced some
good things as well as some bad things. Davis is a man whom, one might say, has seen in all. Even
his childhood was different than most people born in the 20s and 30s.
Davis was born the 26th of May, 1926 in Alton Illinois (John Szwed 13). Davis has one sister,
Dorothy Davis, and one brother, Vernon Davis. Davis father is Miles Dewey Davis the Second.
Davis mother is Cleota Henry Davis. Davis married Betty Davis and had four children, three
sons and one daughter. Miles Dewey Davis the Fourth, Gregory Davis, Erin Davis and Cheryl
Davis (Quincy Troupe 9). Davis did not have the best relationship with his mother (Jack Chambers
25). They both liked to control things which they could not do at the same time (John Szwed 13).
Although Da vis was controlling, he was also shy as a child (John Szwed

The Is A Popular Destination For Corporations
In 2012, Eaton Corporation, a global power company, acquired Ireland based Cooper Industries,
an electrical equipment supplier. Overall, this deal is expected to save Eaton $160 million in
taxes by 2016. (Gilleard, 2012). With Corporate Inversions like this on the rise, it is projected that
the United States Treasury could lose up to $19.5 billion dollars over the next 10 years. ( Sloan,
Jeelani,Wahba,Casey Jones, 2014). After the merger of Eaton and Cooper, Eaton s 2013 effective tax
rate was only .6%. This was down from 2.5% in 2012 and 12.9% in 2011. According to Eaton s
Securities and Exchange Commission s filing, much of this decrease was due to their acquisition
of cooper (Drawbaugh, 2014). While corporate inversions are legal, we must ask ourselves if they
are ethical.
Ireland is a popular destination for corporations looking to invert. For one, while the U.S has a
35% tax rate, Ireland only taxes corporations at 12.5%. However, corporate functions need to be
located in areas with good non tax advantages. Tax savings alone do not always justify the costs of
inversion (Marian, 2015). Corporations like Ireland because the country provides numerous non
tax advantages in addition to such a low corporate rate. For one, Ireland has a skilled workforce,
with universities pushing students towards science and engineering. Being a member of the
European Union, corporations headquartered in Ireland have access to over 500 million customers,
as well as the opportunity to hire

Willy Loman Hero
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller features Willy Loman as a tragic figure. His role in the
story is plagued by shattered hopes and hardship, leading to his eventual demise. Willy Loman
brings hardship on those around him through his financial and social decisions made. Willy
Loman declines to accept a job from Charley, even though it would be better in almost every way
to accept a job from him. Instead, Willy continues to borrow money from Charley, with no way
of paying it back. He was just given unpaid leave from work with payments piling up. Yet instead
of making things better for his family and those around him, he declines a job from Charley. He
therefore stays in unpayable debt to Charley, and puts his Wife and sons in financial jeopardy.
Even when granted the perfect solution, Willy avoids it, a classic sign of a tragic character.
Additionally, Willy opts to make financially unstable decisions such as smashing up the... Show

When asking if he can stay in Boston for work, and not travel so much for work, he turns a civil
conversation into a shouting match. His boss, understandably, shuts down. Anyone who has
tried to convince someone of something knows that when things turn hostile, no one is open to
new ideas. Willy effectively negates his chances of getting the non travel job, and even talks
himself into an unpaid leave. Clearly, Willy s social skills are not that of what a salesman s
should be. Furthermore, Willy ruins relations with his son, Biff, Before Biff leaves for the last
foreseeable time. When all Biff wanted was a loving goodbye, Willy refuses to respect him or his
decision. Instead, Willy regards Biff coldly. He does not wish him a goodbye and does not shake
Biff s hand when offered. Driven by his desire to keep Biff in the house, Willy reacts completely
opposite of how he should; giving Biff no incentive of love or care to stay in the house. Willy

Analysis Of Jaap Schekkerman, The Founder Of Ifead s And...
Background Jaap Schekkerman, the founder of IFEAD s, developed the Extended Enterprise
Architecture Framework (E2AF) in the early 2000 s. The E2AF is a communication framework
that is a blended framework which takes standards from IEEE 1471, describes views and
viewpoints of an architecture from a software intensive system and elements of FEAF and TOGAF
and a matrix structure similar to Zachman. E2AF is an architecture program that describes subjects
and relations with all key stakeholders. It helps address the topics and process steps needed to reach
an organizations overall goals and objectives (Schekkerman, 2006). The rules and principles of
E2AF are the fundamental elements when utilizing IFEAD s architectural philosophy. The
visualization translated by the principles and rules help express the style of architecture. In
addition, the principles and rules are related to both the context of the architecture, the methods and
approaches. In turn, the approaches help define and describe the process roadmap for an
architecture. Schekkerman designed the framework to address the elements of construction,
function and style (Schekkerman, 2006). In particular, the enterprise deals with the function and
construction and the culture (including values and norms) deals with the style. Major Architectural

Monsanto, Stop Eat Safe And Stay Healthy
Monsanto, Stop!
Everyone wants to eat safe and stay healthy. Nowadays, genetically engineered food is
everywhere in the United States. Thanks to Monsanto, a company that produces and develops
genetic modified crops, according to Genetically Engineered Crops by the Center for Food Safety
(CFS), 70 percent of processed foods on supermarket shelves from soda to soup, crackers to
condiments contain genetically engineered ingredients. Genetically engineered food has deeply
rooted in our lives. On the other hand, in other parts of the world, European Union and Russia have
been banning any genetically modified food to be produced in their territories. The reason of such
difference in terms of policy is because Monsanto has been spending a huge amount of money to tell
the Americans that genetic engineered food is totally safe to eat. Other than that, according to Viral
Gene In Genetically Engineered Foods Could Promote Disease by Dr. Mercola, Monsanto has
joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. The company is offering Business
Ecosystems Training course, which claims to enhance employees awareness and understanding of
the links between ecosystems and business. Should we trust Monsanto?

Essay on The Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam
Out in the middle of no where, an hour drive away from Las Vegas, NV lies one of the biggest
dams and power plants in the world. Built in the heart of the depression, it serves as more than
just a barrier from water to pass through. The concrete poured into the walls of Hoover Dam, are
made by the sweat and blood of hundreds of Americans who were looking to save themselves, and
their families.
Residing on the Colorado River, the Hoover dam rises out of no where. Downstream from the Grand
Canyon, this structure is almost as impressive as the Grand Canyon. With its towering height, and
awesome power output, it is almost inconceivable that the technology required to build such a
structure would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The engineering design that went behind building such a massive barrier is unbelievable. While
building started in 1931, it is clear that there was a huge push to make this structure even
decades before the first shovel pierced the earth. The American agriculture in the southwest, was
going through a cycle of floods and droughts, this would make for very harsh growing
conditions. Engineers felt that it was possible to block the Colorado River, which would allow
for regulation of the water and also hydroelectric power. This massive project would not have
been possible without the financing of a very large company. During the middle of the depression,
it was extremely hard to find a company who was willing to front the money to start the project.
One was found and for close to forty nine million dollars, the dam was financed by six different
smaller construction companies.
The first thing that needed to be constructed was roads that lead up to the dam site. Hoover dam isn
t anywhere close to any towns or cities. The railroads didn t even lead up to it. The first order of
business was to make the dam accessible by the cars and trains that would be bringing in the
supplies necessary to make the dam. In order to try and stop the water from flowing down to the
dam site, a cofferdam was built slightly upstream, and another slightly down stream from the dam
site. This cofferdam allowed for the diversion of water through large pipes to down below

Adam Smith Greed

If a certain individual were to interrogate a select person about what they do during their free time,
their answer would probably be something between the lines of using the internet and anything else
related to it, because let s face it, our race has evolved into a technology dependent specie. The rise
of the internet has given way to more opportunities especially in the entertainment category which
resulted in more people turning to the internet and away from TV and movies. According to the

U.S. citizens agreed that they frequently accessed the internet more than several years ago and 49%

How Does Poverty Affect Crime Annotated Bibliography
Ager, A W. Crime and Poverty in 19th Century England: The Economy of Makeshifts., 2014. Print.
This book explores that relationship between crime and poverty from the historical context of 19th
century Britain. The emergence of the criminal underclass in Britain has for a long time been
associated with the rising rates of poverty at the time. Despite this widespread link between crime
and poverty, very few historians and scholars have actually tried to analyze this perception. Only
recently has interest in the issue taken root and many scholars have scrambled to determine whether
this domineering perception was actually true. This book presents one such attempt to understand
the relationship between crime and poverty from a historical perspective. In particular, the authors
scan the causal factors that might have motivated the poor to engage in criminal activity.
Furthermore, the book examines the variation of criminal behavior among the poor in urban areas
and those in rural areas. This book will be used within the current study to bolster the understanding
regarding the various causal factors the mediate the link between crime and poverty as well as
policy implications for addressing such factors.

1, 4-Dichlorimene Lab Report
Benzoic acid and 1,4 dichlorobenzene are extracted from an unknown sample of powder. Both
components are identified by comparing their experimental melting points to known literature
values.
Discussion. Extraction is the transfer of a solute from one phase to another. Solubility depends on
polarity, and goes by the rule like dissolves like. Most organic molecules are more soluble in
organic solvents than in water. If the organic solvent is immiscible with water, then when the
organic solvent dissolves organic molecules this solution forms a layer separate from the water
layer forming two layers: an organic layer, and an aqueous layer. When the two layers are mixed
together, small amounts of components from each layer will dissolve in the other layer,
establishing an equilibrium between the two layers. In order to extract solute from solvent A to
solvent B, several extractions with small portions of the solvent B are more efficient than a single

Since the unknown powder was known to contain both an organic compound and an acid, we
had to add aqueous sodium hydroxide in order to draw out the acid and its conjugate base into
the aqueous layer. When the base was added to the separatory funnel, it attracted the acid and
formed an immiscible aqueous layer under the liquid layer containing the organic compound.
The funnel was shaken to draw out as much acid as possible, and the aqueous layer was
withdrawn from the funnel. Aqueous sodium hydroxide was added a second time to pull out
even more acid that may have remained in the organic layer, and was withdrawn as well. In hopes
of drawing out any remaining acid from the organic layer, water, a polar substance, was added to

Evaluating Arguments, Opinions, And Beliefs Project Essay
Reflection Evaluating Arguments, Opinions, and Beliefs Project Giving Children Brought Here
Illegally a Path to Citizenship Barbara Corvell October 26, 2016 This essay is a reflection on
what I learned from the group project on whether or not children who were brought to the United
States illegally by their parents should be deported or given a path to citizenship outside the
normal requirements. Majority Perspective, Consequences and Culture On what I learned I m not
sure I can gage what the majority perspective is of society without further research as each side
tended to contradict what the other used as a basis for their opinion, but it would appear that the
majority perspective within the group was that they shouldn t be provided a path to citizenship
which is in opposition to my thoughts. My view for path to citizenship is based more on impacts to
the children and ensuring they are not negative. What surprised me first and foremost was that the
research didn t provide me a clear answer that supported or refuted my view. There is no clear
answer, both sides have valid opinions, and there will be both negative and positive impacts. No
matter what course of action is taken, the most important consequence I learned is that the children
are not winners. Whether that be that their parents are deported without them resulting in what
could be an emotional and/or financial impact to the children or that they themselves are deported,
which can also result in emotional

Soft drinks should be taxed
Considering that soft drink are one of the most popular drinks to a lot of people all around the
world, unfortunately, a lot of them love to drink it almost every day and may not live without it.
Soda becomes addictive, preventing one from drinking what the body needs the most which is
water. In the market, there is an infinite amount of choices with multiple varieties of flavors,
different tastes, and ranges from classic soda to diet soda. However, consumers do not recognize
clearly the negative effect of soft drinks that have a high chance of eroding their health away. Some

It is a huge amount of sugar. Scientists started studies on the soft drink consumption and linked that
amount of sugar in the soft drink to dental erosion, increase energy intake and related to obesity.
We found clear associations of soft drink intake with increased energy intake and body weight.
Soft drink intake also was associated with lower intakes of milk, calcium, and other nutrients
and with an increased risk of several medical problems (e.g., diabetes) said Lenny R. Vartanian
Generally, tooth become weakened when you lack the minerals that are needed. The higher the
acidic level is within your consumption can be very brutal, it can make your tooth s enamel
softer and weaken your tooth strength. You end up lacking calcium, which is supposed to make
your bones stay strong. Soft drinks have highest sugar and acid, yet lower pH level compared to
water. It takes 32 glasses of water to neutralize a glass of cola (Radomski, 40). Citric acid in cola
makes a weakness of dental, changing the neutralization of saliva and destroys enamel surface as
Ph.D. Manny explained the article Soft drinks and dental erosion, Citric acid is the predominant
acid in non cola drinks and is especially erosive to teeth because it collates calcium effectively
(Radomski, 41). If a kid drink a can of soda every day, his enamel will be declining, stained teeth
and cavities and plaque will start to build their teeth.

My Chemical Romance Emo Culture
My Chemical Romance was a musical band in the subculture of emo, a shortened version of
emotional. MCR was active from 2001 until their disbandment in 2013. Hailing from New Jersey,
this band recreated what it meant to be a band, and what it meant to be in the music industry. Above
all, they tapped into raw human emotions and gave them a soundtrack, and brought a strong
message to carry for an eternity You are not alone. The bandhad four main members: singer Gerard

As a personal fan, I don t think any band could be a perfect copy of My Chemical Romance or
their music, but some could come close to it. In order to make an impact through the lyrics, a
band needs a story. Just like Gerard Way and the rest of his band mates, a prospective band need
something people can relate to and understand. That is the biggest key to making a hit song,
besides finding the right beat and tone. The singer was suicidal, a borderline alcoholic and an on
and off again drug abuser. When the band booked to play a show in Japan in August 2004, Way
didn t bother packing a suitcase because he was so self convinced was he that he wouldn t be
returning home alive. After ten minutes of vomiting on stage in Tokyo, he realized he badly
needed help (Anderson). This helped to create the following album, Welcome To The Black
Parade. I think the biggest thing a band would need is to be united and open. With My Chemical
Romance, it was not just Gerard Way and those other dudes behind him. It was all collaborative.
According to an interview with Gerard Way conducted by Daniel Lane of TeamRock, It s not an
ego thing or because everyone wants equal time, it s because we ARE a gang. The weird thing
about this gang is that there s no leader. We don t want it to become anyone s show , because

and in a mild degree logos. 3. There are some conflicting elements, when discussing how society
can prevent similar problems in the future. Cameron expresses in text 1 that he wishes better
parenting. Parents have to set boundaries with the purpose of children knowing the difference
between right and wrong. His promised harsher consequences involving a higher fixing of sentence
and tougher police tactics will maybe have a frightening effect on young people, but will not
change their minds, if they are determined to participate in riots. Prevention costs less than
punishment and is both the most humanitarian and the only sensible solution. It can be very
stressful being a teenager with a cut in youth service spending by the government and increasing
expectations and demands by the society. We need to invest in young people to create a feeling of
stability and hope. Through interventions young people will be motivated and open their eyes to
new opportunities. The government can take inspiration from Denmark, where we demand that
young people are occupied with either school or work. If a person doesn t have a high enough

Examples Of Domestic Violence In A Streetcar Named Desire
A Streetcar Named Desire; to Ban or Not to Ban As readers begin to follow Blanche Dubois
journey throughout A Streetcar Named Desire into the deep heart of Louisiana, the world of
Blanche s sister is introduced in none other than New Orleans. There, southern charm, precious
couples, chummy friendships, and unbreakable family ties become apparent immediately, yet
under the surface, more than just a hint of dark, buried social issues overflow. As Blanche s
experience with her sister Stella and brother in law Stanley progresses, readers come face to face
with sugar coated portrayals of domestic violence, alcoholism, and rape. As A Streetcar Named
Desire appears throughout American high schools, administrators and school boards must debate

In scene ten of the play, it is insinuated that Blanche s brother in law, Stanley Kowalski, rapes her.
Unfortunately, no one believes Blanche when she informs them of the offense, and they in turn
conclude that she has gone insane. In reality, the actions of Stanley Kowalski leave Blanche in an
unstable mental state, and it is unacceptable that he got away with his actions. One source
discussing rape prevention recounts, Empirical evidence demonstrates that sexist, patriarchal, and
/or sexually hostile attitudes are predictors of violence against women. Societal tolerance and even
embrace of these attitudes is known as rape culture (Oster). A Streetcar Named Desire exhibits
multiple examples of behavior such as sexist, patriarchal, and/or sexually hostile attitudes. By
allowing students to read this play in educational environments, these heavily flawed demeanors are
being tolerated and thus promoting rape culture. An article on rape education explains

Informative Essay About Anime
Anime, is a term that is used to represent Japanese animation (Lamarre 1). It is a combination of
both form of content and form of expression. However, there seems to be more emphasis on form
of content rather than expression when discussing anime. Form of content includes the genre, story
and narrative while form of expression includes the animation and the style. Form of content can
be described as what the audience is being shown and the message that is conveyed. On the other
hand, form of expression emphasizes how the animation is shown and as a means for the animation
to be shown. In this paper, the first episode of the television animeseries Pretty Guardian Sailor

When Sailor Moon is being introduced, the camera is moved up gradually from Usagi s bed to
her face. The camera remains on her face until she realizes she s late for school. Then, there is a
sudden zoom in of her alarm clock, a zoom in of Usagi, and a zoom out of her house. This
emphasizes that s late for school and she suddenly wakes up and runs down the stairs. As she
runs down the stairs, a selection process is used where only her legs are shown to be moving. As
she speaks to her mom, Usagi is the one moving while her mom remains still throughout most of
the scene in the same position, along with the background which is still aswell. However, when
she is out the door and running, the background moves along with her. This demonstrates a pull
cels technique since the single image is pulled across the background as Usagi is running towards
school. There is also stillness in the background in various scenes. When Usagi is kneeling on the
street and contemplating about showing her mother her test, we see people in the background.
These people are still and do not move, even when she Usagi walks down the road. During these
type of scenes, sound would be the carrier of information since the background is still. Thus, Usagi
speaking is what conveys the information to us rather than the illustration. Another scene which
demonstrates more movement in camera is when Usagi is home to show her mother her test. The

4. Describe the surroundings and the general ambiance. Did the venue seem appropriate? Did it
enhance or detract from the experience?
The ambiance was very kid friendly. The general surroundings were actually a decently large
group of people listening to her sing, as well as children sitting in front of her as close as they
could as if it were storytime. The venue did seem appropriate because it was family friendly and
had no foul language. I believe that having her perform on main Street enhanced the experience
because you were really able to see how passionate she was about her music. As well as how her
voice was so naturally amazing and she didn t need any audio tuning. The venue, just being on the
street, enhanced the experience to me because it shows that even though she s extremely musically

The movement of jobs overseas has caused mounting anxiety in the United States, this anxiety

Candidates And Policy Of The United States Senate Elections
The names of the authors that wrote an article titled Candidates and Policy in the United States
Senate Elections are Gerald C. Wright and Michael B. Berkman. Although the previous literature on
the subject suggests, that policy is not a major factor in the decision making process, the article
argued otherwise.
It is a known fact that a substantial policy difference between the candidates in a particular race
exists. Policymakers write specific policies for the future and an election determines who will
write the policies, which decides the policy. The ideological characteristics of a state and a
candidate for a political office has a positive correlation. Conservative states or districts have
conservative candidates regardless of party affiliation. Meanwhile, liberal states or districts have
liberal candidates regardless of party affiliation.
Besides, the performance of the economy and of the president, assuming that the president and the
candidate share the same party, affects the chances of the candidates. This is evident in almost all
midterm elections in the modern era. If a president (Democratic President Obama) has perceived as
not doing a good job and has a low approval rating (the mid 40s throughout much of his presidency),
then congressional candidates in the midterm elections are not in their best position. Accordingly,
Democrats lost the House of Representatives and some seats in the United States Senate in the 2010
midterm election. The Democratic Party lost the

Change, Innovation, And Sustainability
Change, innovation, and sustainability are common terms in the current global economy.
Organizations need to keep the pace or lead the way to maintain its relevancy in the market and
keep the competition at bay. Thus sustainability is the key to leading by innovation and change, to
improve products and services, in order to remain at the top. Organizations achieve sustainability
when they have the ability to develop, innovate, and implement changes that would lead to long
term success (Froschheiser, 2014). For organizations to implement and commit to the constant
change environment, or organic evolution of change, all stakeholders needto be willing and
informed participants.
Organic Evolution of Change
Creating an organizational mentality of change, is the core of a sustainable organization
(Christensen, 2014). Establishments have been faced with the necessity to transition from the
traditional approach of stability, which ruled previous to the advancement in technology and
globalization, or risk irrelevancy or even destruction (Freytag Hollsen, 2010). Change is provoke
by need. Leadership must identify organizational, stakeholder, and market needs to identify reasons
for change (Bisoux, 2015, Mento, et al, 2002, Simonds, 2013, Todd, et al, 2014, Stanleigh, 2013,
Perlman Leppert, 2013). Identifying organizational strengths and weaknesses would ensure that the
resources needed for the culture of change are available (Peck, et al, n.d.). Once leaders have align

Never got to see women get rights to vote. But got to see the effect of her protests, speeches, and

Susan B. Anthonywas born on February15, 1820. Anthony was the second oldest of eight

Anthony was also a well rounded student. She was really smart, and wanted to learn more.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
According to Dictionary.com a leader is a person who rules, guides or inspires others . Often a
leader is more than that. Leaders care about the group as a whole not just their individual part.
They see the big picture and help everyone else to see it too. They are the one the group looks up
to and depends on. If the leader is lost almost always a new unlikely leader is bound to emerge.
Leaders often do not know who they are until they are put in a position where they must lead for

Landfill Storage Sites For The Underground Water Resources
Increasing numbers of natural resources are consumed by modern society, causing growing
demands of waste disposals at the same time. Statistical results showed that landfill facilities had
been used as a main solid waste disposal approach in the past decades. Landfill leachate is the one
of primary concerns of landfilloperation. Application of reliable barriers underneath waste disposal
sites to protect underground water resources has become an important research subject. However,
any defect of liner systems can put environment at risk due to the possible leakage. A large number
of factors could cause the landfill liner failures in different ways. One of the main factor is
provided by not enough interface shear strength of the composite liner.
Landfills liner is composed of various geosynthetic and soil components (Jogi, 2005). For
domestic waste systems, the basic structure unit of landfill liner is normally regarded as
geosynthetic layer in contact with compacted clay layer (CCLs) for municipal solid waste
landfill. Historical statistics show side slope liner failures caused by liner sliding able to happen
at the interface between CCLs and geomembrane when the interface have a low shear resistance.
The shear strength is probably further decreased by the presence of water (Reddy 1999). Generally
the local clay can be used as compacted clay liner for economic considerations. Leda clay is a
typical type of sensitive marine clay which covers major area of eastern Ontario

He goes on to explain his real life experiences. Douglas says: Fellow citizens, I am not wanting in
respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were
brave men. They were great men too great enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often
happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which
I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate
their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots, and heroes, and for the
good they did, and the principles they contend for, I will unite with you to honor their memory

The Great Divide By John Woolf And Forster s Howard s...

The Great Divide
There were several prevailing thoughts towards connections present during the time in England on
the cusp of High Modernism. The importance of connections with others was one that was
specifically addressed in much of the literature. E.M. Forster even highlighted the idea in his novel
Howard s End with the epigraph only connect . The idea supports the notion that, in order for a
society to survive and thrive, some degree of connection must be adequately maintained. Yet,
through the stratification of social classes in England at the time, there was little social connection
being preserved. To address the issue, authors like Virginia Woolfand Forster included connection
as a prominent theme in their works. Both Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Forster s Howard s End
address connection through their characters as well as geographical locations. In each of these
stories, the underlying theme of connecting highlights the characters struggles to only connect .
It would seem as if Forster is urging connection by illustrating that, without some degree of
connecting, social classes would remain stratified and society would fall into utter ruin. Through
the intermingling of characters in Howard s End , Forster suggests that connecting in such a way
is progress. He further advocates and suggests that progress should be presented as a positive thing,
and, in order for a society to flourish, connections between the

San Francisco sits on a peninsula surrounded by water, which limits the growth of the city, thus
directly influencing UCSF. Second, certain campus buildings need to undergo seismic renovations
for safety reasons. Finally, construction efforts will require a stable financial budget. The financial
budget influences UCSF, because they are a public institution and as... Show more content on

The main campuses include: Parnassus, which is located in the center of the city; Mission Bay
and Mount Zion. UCSF is affiliated with two hospitals: Zuckerberg San Francisco General
Hospital and Trauma Center and San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. UCSF also
owns and preserves Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve, which is a 61 acre open space and extra

UCSF campus, is enduring arguably the greatest space constraints out of the campus locations.
The Parnassus campus covers six blocks and is composed of faculty, students, staff and those
involved in research, patient care and educational events. Surrounded by a residential area,
Parnassus is limited from growing outward and growing upward, out of respect to the
surrounding neighborhood. The UC Regents set forth campus boundaries on the upward
growth of Parnassus, referred to as the space limit. Currently, Parnassus exceeds the space limit
by 3.7%, and UCSF has established a long range plan to reduce that amount. Parnassus buildings
that will be effected by the long range plan include: the Clinical Sciences Building (CSB), UC Hall
and the Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics (LPPH C) site. The proposed deadline for
renovations on the CSB is late 2018 early 2019 and UC Hall is 2020. The CSB will begin bidding

Historical And Textual Data Of The Mesopotamian Religion
The Mesopotamian religion has not a large amount of information uncovered. There are both
archaeological and textual data that has been found on religious beliefs of the early Sumerian
civilization survive. The typical temples were constructed of mud bricks and adorned with
buttresses and many small cones of different colors. On the inside there was a niche for the image
of the deityright in front of an offering table. The early sanctuaries were simple in their style but
the later new temples contained spacious courts, which were rooms for attendant priests and a
ziggurat. There were three types of textual materials that have been discovered: prayers,
descriptions of the rituals conducted by priests, and mythological literature. Prayers were always
associated with specific rites to be performed by the person offering the prayers or by a priest
attached to the sanctuary. The prayers would consist of invocations to the gods, requests for
assistance, and expressions of gratitude for past favors or for dangers averted. There was a rule,
that the worshipers did not emphasize such spiritual or moral topics as death, survival, and contact
with the divine. The discovered mythological literature is difficult for present day readers to
understand and the extent to which such myths reflect early religious beliefs is unknown. In its
beginning, Mesopotamian religionexpressed harmony between humanity and the natural powers on
which it depended on survival. The Sumerians have

TOK Knowledge Essay
The claim Knowledge is nothing more than the systematic organization of facts, has many flaws
in its implications. All of the knowledge that we gain as ToK knowers cannot be considered
infallible fact. The term fact implies that the statement or claim can be reinforced with substantial
evidence and can be proven, and we have learned that almost any information can be considered
knowledge, no matter how subjective or specific the information is. Given that an individual is
defined by having a specific and unique way of thinking and perceiving the world, most of the
knowledge gained in several different Areas of Knowledge are heavily dependent on the
perspectives of the individuals under examination. Both the Areas of Knowledge of Ethicsand
Human Sciences have many ambiguities when it comes to organizing and legitimizing this data.
This leads the knower to ask, What makes information factual in terms of ToK knowledge? It can be
proven through Ethics and Human Sciences that knowledge is not the systematic organization of
facts, but the systematic organization of collective data to show trends and patterns. Ethical
boundaries and impressions are subjective to every individual, and the public ethical boundary must
be based off of the accumulative average of the environment. There is not a factual This is right vs.
This is wrong because no single human being has the authority to make such a statement. In fact, it
is this basic ethical disagreement that has led to

Analysis Of The Mental Health Of Ruby Wax
Being able to find a first person account, which provides explicit details on the mental health of
Ruby Wax has been unequivocally challenging. However, after much research, numerous resources
have been sought, which include her autobiography, How Do You Want Me? (2002), Ted talks and
more recently, her appearance on BBC One Who Do You Think You Are? (2017), which contain
accounts of her mental health issues and her recovery.
How Do You Want Me? (2002) is an autobiographical memoir by Ruby Wax, which details a
brutally honest and touching account of her personal life, including her upbringing, fame, marriage,
children and some details of her breakdown and recovery. Not only is the book an honest account,
it is funny and irreverent.
Ruby Wax is well known for being a comedian, actress, author and recently a campaigner for
mental health. Ruby is an only child, who descends from Jewish Austrian parents; her father was
called Edward and her mother was called Berthe. Her parents escaped from Austria in 1938, due to
impending Nazi threat. They set up roots in Evanston, Illinois. Her father set up his own business,
and became a wealthy sausage maker, and her mother was an accountant. Ruby is married to Ed Bye
, who is a British television producer and director. They have three children, a boy and two girls.
In the book, she speaks candidly about how her parents were violent towards her during her
upbringing, and how negative her parents were towards her. She explains

Modern Piracy on Ocean Voyages Essay
Are you concerned about pirate attacks on your ocean voyages? Although it may only seem like a
good movie plot, the threat of piracy still exists. Nowadays, pirate incidents are often not covered
in mainstream media. One researcher commented on the topic, saying that piracy has ...been
romanticized in such films as Disney s Pirates of the Caribbean (Lunsford, What Makes Piracy
Work? ). Nevertheless, pirates have proved their aggressive behavior through history and their
effects on society. Modern and past pirates share similarities and differences, and countries around
the world are looking for ways to control the issue before it spreads.
The term piracy means the act of robbing or behaving with illegal violence at sea ( Piracy ). ... Show

Today, piracy has resurfaced, but in smaller numbers. It is centered mainly around the Middle
East on important waterways. For instance, Somalia and the Gulf of Aden are hotspots for pirates,
because the passing cargo ships are full of supplies for African relief (May, Laura. History of Piracy
).
These new pirates are similar to their predecessors in a variety of aspects. They are split up into
two groups: those who work for themselves and others who have an alliance with a government.
The most famously known group is currently known as the Somali pirates. They attempted to
attack and capture the U.S. cargo vessel called Maersk Alabama in April 2009. However, they were
fought off, and their one hostage, the ship s skipper, was rescued five days later (Boot, Max.
Pirates, Then and Now ). Pirate techniques of stealing and escaping have not changed either. Sea
robbers continue to elude the authorities by using state and country flags to become
unrecognizable. Their ships are designed to be fast and easy to maneuver through coves and
channels. On the other hand, technological advances have made it easier for ordinary ocean
vessels to become victims of piracy. Wooden ships with shallow bottoms and cannons were
ingenious a century ago, but speedboats have become the new pirate transportation. Somali pirates
tend to have a larger, mother ship used for deep ocean assaults (May, Laura.

Compare And Contrast The Dynasties Of China And India
The history of the development of China and India are very different. India was broken up into
many different settlements ran by different people, such as dynasties and empires. On the other
hand, China was always more united and was also ran by a dynasty. A dynasty is a government
ran by the same family, only to be thrown out of power by a new dynasty. The dynasties of China
were successful, where as the dynasties of India were not as fortunate. There were a few factors
that set the Chinese dynasties up for success compared to the Indian dynasties.
One of important factors was that religious sentiments did not affect the strength of the leadership
in China. This made Chinese unification a lot easier. India was not able to unify itself because

Animal Laws In Canada
Throughout the years there were lot of laws that were made to protect the animals but still not
enough. The first ever law made in Canada was in 1866 called Declaration of Rights of Animal``.
Not just in Canada but all around the world animals are not treated right, even though they have
equal rights on the planet as humans. If animals have equal rights as us then humans has no rights
to take them away but on the day of today animal s rights are taken away. As citizens it is our
responsibility to follow the laws but when it comes to animals laws, they are not followed. Being

The Characteristics Of A Hero
Heroes can come from nothing
A hero is someone who shows courage mostly because of their actions and is idealized because of
their courage. There are many examples of heroes in the everyday world. This can be star baseball
player Yasiel Puig who was smuggled into America and first started playing baseballas a job for $17
a month. This can show that heroes can be anyone in this world. One amazing hero statement is
when Joseph Campbell said, A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger
than oneself. So we know that a hero has to be someone that shows courage, but when you think
about it a hero is an idle and many idles in this world don t show courage that much. You can still
be a hero if you work hard and even show others to do the same.
A hero has to function like no other. This is because of their traits and their heroic actions. The
function of a hero is someone or something that may show courage or influences others. Many
heroes are idealized and are known because of their actions. Some of these actions can be
standing up for what they believe in or their rights. Heroes are also known because of their traits
that make them heroes. Some heroic traits are pride, courage, and selflessness. These are hero
traits because this shows that you are not selfish are care about others more than yourself. Some
other hero traits are working hard and never giving up. These can be hero traits because it shows
that you will never stop and many people will be

Unilineal Cultural Evolution
From Unilineal Cultural Evolution to Functionalism Several anthropological theories emerged
during the early twentieth century. Arguably, the most important of these was Functionalism.
Bronislaw Malinowski was a prominent anthropologist in Britain during that time and had great
influence on the development of this theory. Malinowski suggested that individuals have certain
physiological needs and that cultures develop to meet those needs. Malinowski saw those needs as
being nutrition, reproduction, shelter, and protection from enemies. He also proposed that there
were other basic, culturallyderived needs and he saw these as being economics, social control,
education, and political organization Malinowski proposed that the culture... Show more content on

She described cultures as being of four types Apollonian, Dionysian, Paranoid and Meglomaniac.
Benedict used these types to characterize various cultures that she studied.
The most famous exponent of the school of Culture and Personality is Margaret Mead. Margaret
Mead was a student of Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. Though in the course of her career she
would eclipse the fame of her tutors, particularly the latter. Mead s first field study was on the
Pacific Island of Samoa, where she studied the lives of the adolescent girls in that culture. From this
field study, she produced her famous work Coming of Age in Samoa (1949). In this work, she
investigated the relationship between culture and personality by comparing the lives of adolescents
in Samoa to those of American youths. She concentrated particularly on the sexual experiences of
the girls she studied in Samoan culture; drawing the conclusion that the sexually permissive
atmosphere of Samoan culture produced healthier less stormy adolescents than that of her own
more repressed American culture.
The theories of Culture and Personality and Functionalism addressed and rebutted many of the more
quaint aspects of the Evolutionary and Diffusionist theories of the nineteenth century. The
methodology developed by these pioneers is still in use by anthropologists today. That is,
participant observation and a complete involvement in the culture and language of the people being

Merlet s Film Artemisia
Director Agnes Merlet s film, Artemisia , tells the story of the Italian Baroque painter Artemisia
Gentileschi and her relationship with her teacher. Merlet s take on the story is one that endorses the
student teacher romance; as well as promoting Gentileschi s feminism and portraying her as a
strong, individual character. The movie is successful in depicting both the intensity of student
teacher relationship, and Artemisia s independent will. Nevertheless, at times the relationship
between Tassi and Artemisia seems more Hollywood like than realistic, which at times degrades
Artemisia s character by making her seem injudicious.
The acting in the film was especially vigorous, and effective. Actress Valentina Cerviaccurately

Light Pollution, And The Effects Of Light Pollution
A new study illustrates that light pollution has increased to such an extent all over the world that
both human beings and other animals are negatively affected by it. The study marks the first
observation of satellite images to ever be designed specifically for detecting particular types of
artificial lights. A petition was also started recently via Change.Org outlining three main ways light
pollution impinges upon the health of humans and birds while also brightening the night sky. For
human health, the biggest issue is it messes with circadian rhythms, according to Laura Stepney,
who started the petition. You can get black out curtains but you shouldn t have to. The city
should be considering that from the beginning with the design, instead of people having to react
and protect themselves. She cites a study that found residents of metropolitan areas lose
considerable hours of sleep due to going to bed later and waking earlier. A more recent study
published in the peer reviewed journal, Science Advances, used satellite data to illustrate that
Earth s night is gradually brightening. It also showed that artificially lit outdoor surfaces have
become 2.2 percent more common on average each year since 2012. Pundits argue that this is
particularly problematic because these nighttime lights not only disrupt circadian rhythms but
also increase risks of depression, diabetes and cancer. In the course of migrating, both sea turtles
and birds are disoriented by nighttime lights, and insects are attracted to them, which often leads
them to their death. These lights are predominately LED lights, which have become increasingly
popular over the course of the last couple decades primarily based on the marketing promise of
energy conservation. LED lights are not inherently problematic in and of themselves according
to German Research Center for Geosciences physicist Chris Kyba. He says the problem is the
sheer number of lights that people are collectively installing. We ll light something that we didn t
light before, like a bicycle path through a park or a section of highway leading outside of town in
the past wasn t lit, Kyba explains as an example. And so all of those new uses of light offset, to
some extent,

  • 2. Case Study of Terrorism Essay On September 11, 2001, the United States (U.S.) experienced an act of overt terrorism unparalleled in its history. The extremist terrorist group, al Qaeda, attacked the U.S and briefly paralyzed a nation. This was a physical attack on the US, but in retrospect, a global attack on democracy. The U.S. and its coalition partners came to the realization that this act of terrorism was potentially a precursor to an asymmetric warfare campaign that had global impact. After carefully analyzing the magnitude of this event, the U.S. realized this could not be a unilateral effort; it had to seek support from its partners in countering terror campaigns worldwide. In support of the U.S. efforts, the Air Force (AF) should build partnership... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on the make up of the Air Command and Staff College (ACSC), a resident program located at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, it will represent the AF PME School during this analysis. ACSC is an intermediate level PME School for U.S. and international military personnel. Air National Guard (ANG) personnel attend ACSC, with very few, if any, Army NG personnel. Therefore, this study will only focus on the use of ANG personnel. After completing ACSC, U.S. military forces possess the skills and knowledge to fill squadron commander positions and operational staff level jobs supporting Combatant Commanders, Joint Staff, Air Staff, and senior level interagency officials. According to Brigadier General Jimmie Jackson, Jr., then ACSC Commandant, he testified to Congress on June 25, 2009 that since 1946 approximately 2,500 IO s from 92 nations graduated from the college and later became Chiefs of Staff, Heads of State, Ministers, Ambassadors, or members of Parliament . Because many of these IO s become prominent figures in their government, it s possible that information shared and relationships cultivated while attending ACSC could help influence their views about the U.S. In Phase I, as part of its initial indoctrination process, ACSC should assign Guardsmen and IO s from partnering nations in the same classroom during the ... • 3. Miles Davis, Miles. Davis Biography of Miles Davis Miles Dewey Davis the Third was a musician; composer; genius. Davis wrote a large portion of the music he played and he did not care what people thought about his music. Do not fear mistakes, there are none. (Miles Davis 29). The amount of skill Davis must have had to keep on creating new, original, different music is far beyond many people. Davis is one of the main contributing factors to change jazz. He, alone, has made his own style, the Cool Jazz genre (Karl Scarborough 26). Davis is surely one of the reasons I believe jazz is here to stay for a long time, and Davis thought so too. In Davis life, he has done many great things and experienced some good things as well as some bad things. Davis is a man whom, one might say, has seen in all. Even his childhood was different than most people born in the 20s and 30s. Davis was born the 26th of May, 1926 in Alton Illinois (John Szwed 13). Davis has one sister, Dorothy Davis, and one brother, Vernon Davis. Davis father is Miles Dewey Davis the Second. Davis mother is Cleota Henry Davis. Davis married Betty Davis and had four children, three sons and one daughter. Miles Dewey Davis the Fourth, Gregory Davis, Erin Davis and Cheryl Davis (Quincy Troupe 9). Davis did not have the best relationship with his mother (Jack Chambers 25). They both liked to control things which they could not do at the same time (John Szwed 13). • 4. The Is A Popular Destination For Corporations In 2012, Eaton Corporation, a global power company, acquired Ireland based Cooper Industries, an electrical equipment supplier. Overall, this deal is expected to save Eaton $160 million in taxes by 2016. (Gilleard, 2012). With Corporate Inversions like this on the rise, it is projected that the United States Treasury could lose up to $19.5 billion dollars over the next 10 years. ( Sloan, Jeelani,Wahba,Casey Jones, 2014). After the merger of Eaton and Cooper, Eaton s 2013 effective tax rate was only .6%. This was down from 2.5% in 2012 and 12.9% in 2011. According to Eaton s Securities and Exchange Commission s filing, much of this decrease was due to their acquisition of cooper (Drawbaugh, 2014). While corporate inversions are legal, we must ask ourselves if they are ethical. Ireland is a popular destination for corporations looking to invert. For one, while the U.S has a 35% tax rate, Ireland only taxes corporations at 12.5%. However, corporate functions need to be located in areas with good non tax advantages. Tax savings alone do not always justify the costs of inversion (Marian, 2015). Corporations like Ireland because the country provides numerous non tax advantages in addition to such a low corporate rate. For one, Ireland has a skilled workforce, with universities pushing students towards science and engineering. Being a member of the European Union, corporations headquartered in Ireland have access to over 500 million customers, as well as the opportunity to hire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Willy Loman Hero Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller features Willy Loman as a tragic figure. His role in the story is plagued by shattered hopes and hardship, leading to his eventual demise. Willy Loman brings hardship on those around him through his financial and social decisions made. Willy Loman declines to accept a job from Charley, even though it would be better in almost every way to accept a job from him. Instead, Willy continues to borrow money from Charley, with no way of paying it back. He was just given unpaid leave from work with payments piling up. Yet instead of making things better for his family and those around him, he declines a job from Charley. He therefore stays in unpayable debt to Charley, and puts his Wife and sons in financial jeopardy. Even when granted the perfect solution, Willy avoids it, a classic sign of a tragic character. Willy effectively negates his chances of getting the non travel job, and even talks himself into an unpaid leave. Clearly, Willy s social skills are not that of what a salesman s should be. Furthermore, Willy ruins relations with his son, Biff, Before Biff leaves for the last foreseeable time. When all Biff wanted was a loving goodbye, Willy refuses to respect him or his decision. Instead, Willy regards Biff coldly. He does not wish him a goodbye and does not shake Biff s hand when offered. • 7. Analysis Of Jaap Schekkerman, The Founder Of Ifead s And... Background Jaap Schekkerman, the founder of IFEAD s, developed the Extended Enterprise Architecture Framework (E2AF) in the early 2000 s. The E2AF is a communication framework that is a blended framework which takes standards from IEEE 1471, describes views and viewpoints of an architecture from a software intensive system and elements of FEAF and TOGAF and a matrix structure similar to Zachman. E2AF is an architecture program that describes subjects and relations with all key stakeholders. It helps address the topics and process steps needed to reach an organizations overall goals and objectives (Schekkerman, 2006). The rules and principles of E2AF are the fundamental elements when utilizing IFEAD s architectural philosophy. The visualization translated by the principles and rules help express the style of architecture. In addition, the principles and rules are related to both the context of the architecture, the methods and approaches. In turn, the approaches help define and describe the process roadmap for an architecture. Schekkerman designed the framework to address the elements of construction, function and style (Schekkerman, 2006). In particular, the enterprise deals with the function and construction and the culture (including values and norms) deals with the style. Thanks to Monsanto, a company that produces and develops genetic modified crops, according to Genetically Engineered Crops by the Center for Food Safety (CFS), 70 percent of processed foods on supermarket shelves from soda to soup, crackers to condiments contain genetically engineered ingredients. Genetically engineered food has deeply rooted in our lives. On the other hand, in other parts of the world, European Union and Russia have been banning any genetically modified food to be produced in their territories. The reason of such difference in terms of policy is because Monsanto has been spending a huge amount of money to tell the Americans that genetic engineered food is totally safe to eat. Other than that, according to Viral Gene In Genetically Engineered Foods Could Promote Disease by Dr. Mercola, Monsanto has joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. The company is offering Business Ecosystems Training course, which claims to enhance employees awareness and understanding of the links between ecosystems and business. Should we trust Monsanto? The concrete poured into the walls of Hoover Dam, are made by the sweat and blood of hundreds of Americans who were looking to save themselves, and their families. The engineering design that went behind building such a massive barrier is unbelievable. While building started in 1931, it is clear that there was a huge push to make this structure even decades before the first shovel pierced the earth. The American agriculture in the southwest, was going through a cycle of floods and droughts, this would make for very harsh growing conditions. Engineers felt that it was possible to block the Colorado River, which would allow for regulation of the water and also hydroelectric power. This massive project would not have been possible without the financing of a very large company. During the middle of the depression, it was extremely hard to find a company who was willing to front the money to start the project. One was found and for close to forty nine million dollars, the dam was financed by six different smaller construction companies. The first thing that needed to be constructed was roads that lead up to the dam site. Hoover dam isn t anywhere close to any towns or cities. The railroads didn t even lead up to it. The first order of business was to make the dam accessible by the cars and trains that would be bringing in the supplies necessary to make the dam. In order to try and stop the water from flowing down to the dam site, a cofferdam was built slightly upstream, and another slightly down stream from the dam site. Crime and Poverty in 19th Century England: The Economy of Makeshifts., 2014. Print. This book explores that relationship between crime and poverty from the historical context of 19th century Britain. The emergence of the criminal underclass in Britain has for a long time been associated with the rising rates of poverty at the time. Despite this widespread link between crime and poverty, very few historians and scholars have actually tried to analyze this perception. Only recently has interest in the issue taken root and many scholars have scrambled to determine whether this domineering perception was actually true. This book presents one such attempt to understand the relationship between crime and poverty from a historical perspective. In particular, the authors scan the causal factors that might have motivated the poor to engage in criminal activity. Furthermore, the book examines the variation of criminal behavior among the poor in urban areas and those in rural areas. This book will be used within the current study to bolster the understanding regarding the various causal factors the mediate the link between crime and poverty as well as policy implications for addressing such factors. • 14. 1, 4-Dichlorimene Lab Report Benzoic acid and 1,4 dichlorobenzene are extracted from an unknown sample of powder. Both components are identified by comparing their experimental melting points to known literature values. Discussion. Extraction is the transfer of a solute from one phase to another. Solubility depends on polarity, and goes by the rule like dissolves like. Most organic molecules are more soluble in organic solvents than in water. If the organic solvent is immiscible with water, then when the organic solvent dissolves organic molecules this solution forms a layer separate from the water layer forming two layers: an organic layer, and an aqueous layer. When the two layers are mixed together, small amounts of components from each layer will dissolve in the other layer, establishing an equilibrium between the two layers. In order to extract solute from solvent A to solvent B, several extractions with small portions of the solvent B are more efficient than a single extraction with the total ... Since the unknown powder was known to contain both an organic compound and an acid, we had to add aqueous sodium hydroxide in order to draw out the acid and its conjugate base into the aqueous layer. When the base was added to the separatory funnel, it attracted the acid and formed an immiscible aqueous layer under the liquid layer containing the organic compound. The funnel was shaken to draw out as much acid as possible, and the aqueous layer was withdrawn from the funnel. Aqueous sodium hydroxide was added a second time to pull out even more acid that may have remained in the organic layer, and was withdrawn as well. Evaluating Arguments, Opinions, And Beliefs Project Essay Reflection Evaluating Arguments, Opinions, and Beliefs Project Giving Children Brought Here Illegally a Path to Citizenship Barbara Corvell October 26, 2016 This essay is a reflection on what I learned from the group project on whether or not children who were brought to the United States illegally by their parents should be deported or given a path to citizenship outside the normal requirements. Majority Perspective, Consequences and Culture On what I learned I m not sure I can gage what the majority perspective is of society without further research as each side tended to contradict what the other used as a basis for their opinion, but it would appear that the majority perspective within the group was that they shouldn t be provided a path to citizenship which is in opposition to my thoughts. My view for path to citizenship is based more on impacts to the children and ensuring they are not negative. What surprised me first and foremost was that the research didn t provide me a clear answer that supported or refuted my view. There is no clear answer, both sides have valid opinions, and there will be both negative and positive impacts. No matter what course of action is taken, the most important consequence I learned is that the children are not winners. Whether that be that their parents are deported without them resulting in what could be an emotional and/or financial impact to the children or that they themselves are deported, which can also result in emotional ... In order to make an impact through the lyrics, a band needs a story. Just like Gerard Way and the rest of his band mates, a prospective band need something people can relate to and understand. That is the biggest key to making a hit song, besides finding the right beat and tone. The singer was suicidal, a borderline alcoholic and an on and off again drug abuser. It is a known fact that a substantial policy difference between the candidates in a particular race exists. Policymakers write specific policies for the future and an election determines who will write the policies, which decides the policy. The ideological characteristics of a state and a candidate for a political office has a positive correlation. Conservative states or districts have conservative candidates regardless of party affiliation. Meanwhile, liberal states or districts have liberal candidates regardless of party affiliation. Besides, the performance of the economy and of the president, assuming that the president and the candidate share the same party, affects the chances of the candidates. Organizations need to keep the pace or lead the way to maintain its relevancy in the market and keep the competition at bay. Thus sustainability is the key to leading by innovation and change, to improve products and services, in order to remain at the top. Organizations achieve sustainability when they have the ability to develop, innovate, and implement changes that would lead to long term success (Froschheiser, 2014). For organizations to implement and commit to the constant change environment, or organic evolution of change, all stakeholders needto be willing and informed participants. Organic Evolution of Change Creating an organizational mentality of change, is the core of a sustainable organization (Christensen, 2014). Establishments have been faced with the necessity to transition from the traditional approach of stability, which ruled previous to the advancement in technology and globalization, or risk irrelevancy or even destruction (Freytag Hollsen, 2010). Change is provoke by need. Leadership must identify organizational, stakeholder, and market needs to identify reasons for change (Bisoux, 2015, Mento, et al, 2002, Simonds, 2013, Todd, et al, 2014, Stanleigh, 2013, Perlman Leppert, 2013). One of the main factor is provided by not enough interface shear strength of the composite liner. Landfills liner is composed of various geosynthetic and soil components (Jogi, 2005). For domestic waste systems, the basic structure unit of landfill liner is normally regarded as geosynthetic layer in contact with compacted clay layer (CCLs) for municipal solid waste landfill. Historical statistics show side slope liner failures caused by liner sliding able to happen at the interface between CCLs and geomembrane when the interface have a low shear resistance. The shear strength is probably further decreased by the presence of water (Reddy 1999). Generally the local clay can be used as compacted clay liner for economic considerations. The Contributions of Frederick Douglas, William Apess, Sarah Margaret Fuller, and Sojourner Truth As has been noted before, when we look at the authors of The Declaration of Independence, we are quite aware that the document was written in the interest of the people who were there. The wealthy, white, landowners make up the Constitution to fit their needs and exclude everyone else. The people most notably left without rights are African American s, Native American s and Women. These minority groups formed a bond with each other because they were outside the dominant group. He goes on to explain his real life experiences. Douglas says: Fellow citizens, I am not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men too great enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots, and heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contend for, I will unite with you to honor their memory (1822). What Douglas does here is recognize and respect these men to the crowd and make himself part of the group by honoring them together and yet he still gets his point across. Douglas was known as an articulate antislavery speaker his speeches for the Massachusetts Antislavery Society cemented Douglas role as an abolitionists. • 39. The Great Divide By John Woolf And Forster s Howard s... Nashandra M. Jolley ENG 4425 Ross 11 November, 2015 The Great Divide There were several prevailing thoughts towards connections present during the time in England on the cusp of High Modernism. The importance of connections with others was one that was specifically addressed in much of the literature. E.M. Forster even highlighted the idea in his novel Howard s End with the epigraph only connect . The idea supports the notion that, in order for a society to survive and thrive, some degree of connection must be adequately maintained. Yet, through the stratification of social classes in England at the time, there was little social connection being preserved. To address the issue, authors like Virginia Woolfand Forster included connection as a prominent theme in their works. Both Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Forster s Howard s End address connection through their characters as well as geographical locations. In each of these stories, the underlying theme of connecting highlights the characters struggles to only connect . It would seem as if Forster is urging connection by illustrating that, without some degree of connecting, social classes would remain stratified and society would fall into utter ruin. Through the intermingling of characters in Howard s End , Forster suggests that connecting in such a way is progress. He further advocates and suggests that progress should be presented as a positive thing, and, in order for a society to flourish, connections between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are both archaeological and textual data that has been found on religious beliefs of the early Sumerian civilization survive. The typical temples were constructed of mud bricks and adorned with buttresses and many small cones of different colors. On the inside there was a niche for the image of the deityright in front of an offering table. The early sanctuaries were simple in their style but the later new temples contained spacious courts, which were rooms for attendant priests and a ziggurat. There were three types of textual materials that have been discovered: prayers, descriptions of the rituals conducted by priests, and mythological literature. Prayers were always associated with specific rites to be performed by the person offering the prayers or by a priest attached to the sanctuary. The prayers would consist of invocations to the gods, requests for assistance, and expressions of gratitude for past favors or for dangers averted. There was a rule, that the worshipers did not emphasize such spiritual or moral topics as death, survival, and contact with the divine. For instance, Somalia and the Gulf of Aden are hotspots for pirates, because the passing cargo ships are full of supplies for African relief (May, Laura. History of Piracy ). These new pirates are similar to their predecessors in a variety of aspects. They are split up into two groups: those who work for themselves and others who have an alliance with a government. The most famously known group is currently known as the Somali pirates. They attempted to attack and capture the U.S. cargo vessel called Maersk Alabama in April 2009. However, they were fought off, and their one hostage, the ship s skipper, was rescued five days later (Boot, Max. Pirates, Then and Now ). Pirate techniques of stealing and escaping have not changed either. Sea robbers continue to elude the authorities by using state and country flags to become unrecognizable. Benedict used these types to characterize various cultures that she studied. The most famous exponent of the school of Culture and Personality is Margaret Mead. Margaret Mead was a student of Franz Boas and Ruth Benedict. Though in the course of her career she would eclipse the fame of her tutors, particularly the latter. Mead s first field study was on the Pacific Island of Samoa, where she studied the lives of the adolescent girls in that culture. From this field study, she produced her famous work Coming of Age in Samoa (1949). In this work, she investigated the relationship between culture and personality by comparing the lives of adolescents in Samoa to those of American youths. She concentrated particularly on the sexual experiences of the girls she studied in Samoan culture; drawing the conclusion that the sexually permissive atmosphere of Samoan culture produced healthier less stormy adolescents than that of her own more repressed American culture. The theories of Culture and Personality and Functionalism addressed and rebutted many of the more quaint aspects of the Evolutionary and Diffusionist theories of the nineteenth century. Light Pollution, And The Effects Of Light Pollution A new study illustrates that light pollution has increased to such an extent all over the world that both human beings and other animals are negatively affected by it. The study marks the first observation of satellite images to ever be designed specifically for detecting particular types of artificial lights. A petition was also started recently via Change.Org outlining three main ways light pollution impinges upon the health of humans and birds while also brightening the night sky. For human health, the biggest issue is it messes with circadian rhythms, according to Laura Stepney, who started the petition. You can get black out curtains but you shouldn t have to. The city should be considering that from the beginning with the design, instead of people having to react and protect themselves. She cites a study that found residents of metropolitan areas lose considerable hours of sleep due to going to bed later and waking earlier. A more recent study published in the peer reviewed journal, Science Advances, used satellite data to illustrate that Earth s night is gradually brightening. It also showed that artificially lit outdoor surfaces have become 2.2 percent more common on average each year since 2012. Pundits argue that this is particularly problematic because these nighttime lights not only disrupt circadian rhythms but also increase risks of depression, diabetes and cancer. In the course of migrating, both sea turtles and birds are disoriented by nighttime lights, and insects are attracted to them, which often leads them to their death. These lights are predominately LED lights, which have become increasingly popular over the course of the last couple decades primarily based on the marketing promise of energy conservation. LED lights are not inherently problematic in and of themselves according to German Research Center for Geosciences physicist Chris Kyba. He says the problem is the sheer number of lights that people are collectively installing.
