How can institutions use their data to collaborate and enhance their outbound mobility strategies?
In this session, we will share the successful journey experienced by 7 leading institutions from around the globe to effectively count and benchmark more than 10,000 international student experiences across institutions in order to improve their outbound mobility strategies. The presentation will provide a rare insight in the world’s largest mobility programs and how they are managed and promoted. In this session, the presenters will outline the benchmark findings in the areas of student demographics, learning program types, access to student mobility programs, program management and funding and support to increase participation in learning abroad programs. Finally we will describe how sharing data will assist institutions to enhance their already successful strategies.
This session will be of value to delegates who have already had experience in promoting and managing study mobility and learning abroad programs and whose role it is to influence future policies and strategies in this area.

Rewriting the Rules: Institutional procedural change based on analysis of student feedback
As part of a large JISC-supported institutional project on assessment and feedback, two different types of institutional data were analysed to identify potential changes to assessment procedures and practice. Comments from institutional student survey data were analysed to identify 10,000 comments relating to assessment. Coding of these comments enabled the project team to identify a series of areas for change which were common across the institution, rather than just using the survey data for course-level changes, which had happened in the past. This led to the production of new institutional assessment procedures designed to improve the student experience. Institutional records about assignment types, which had been produced simply to support course validation, were then analysed to discover the ten most common types of assignment in use across the institution. Detailed guidance on implementing the new procedures was then developed for these ten assignment types, which accounted for two-thirds of the total number of assignments being taken by students. The combination of data from different parts of the institution has enabled change to be made and supported in a way novel to the university.

Quality Management System (QMS) is a permanent feature of all renowned universities of the world. Earlier it was perceived that Quality Management is only an area which may be applied in manufacturing and other Engineering sectors of life. However, now this trend has been changed and quality assurance agencies of the world are giving due emphasis to apply QMS in education industry. This cultural change ultimately improves the quality of education and services as well. Higher Education of Pakistan has taken revolutionary steps in this regard and now Quality Assurance program is running in good number of universities of Public and private sectors. As per Higher Education Commission compulsions, all public and private universities of Pakistan are required to establish their Quality Enhancement Cells (QECs). There are multiple challenges, hindrances and reluctant behaviors in the way of QMS. The first and important hurdle is the cultural change and i.e quality culture. Furthermore, the implementation of quality culture may measure and evaluate educational performance of the process, and may be used for the evaluation of strengths and weaknesses. This programme may contribute for credibility and standardization of academic programmes. Different world wide recognized quality parameters like ISO 9001-2008, International Workshop Agreement-2 (IWA-2) certification may be accredited to different university programmes. This will increase the level of motivation, credibility and recognition both for students and the teachers. A thorough study has been conducted in university of Karachi (International Relations Department) Pakistan and existing trends, facts and quality culture parameters are evaluated in this paper.

Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to shed light on the principles of TQM and identify the approach that can increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the academic institution. The study is based upon a case study of a university called “University College of Boras” that will explore the quality management of the administrative structure, departments and academic area. The study incorporates evaluation and analysis of the present quality work of the university. Moreover, the TQM principles are compared with the issues of the university in order to shed light on the weakness and strength of the institution.
This dissertation will include a complete thorough analysis of the TQM of the university and identify the problem statements along with recommendation to improve the quality. The data will be collected through primary data collection method by conducting surveys and interviews whereas secondary data is collected by studying the preexisting articles, books and literature.
Chapter 1: Introduction:
The Higher Education institutions are rapidly increasing methods and technologies in order to improve the quality of the academic institutions. The administrators of UCB has launched quality administration sector in order to improve the standard of their education system according to the principles of the Total Quality Management
(Oakland, 2014).
Higher Training Institutions (HEIs) has implemented the TQM principles, and it has reinforced the dimension of quality of institutions and subsequent education. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
