Comparing Leopold And Loeb s Life
Leopold and Loeb both came from very wealthy families and had remarkable academic records.
At eighteen years old Leopold had already obtained his bachelor s degree from the university of
Chicago and was attending law school at Chicago. Of the two, Leopold had a significantly
higher IQ, far above the regular scale. Although Leopold was brighter, he was relatively
unattractive, awkward, and socially ill at ease. Loeb on the other hand graduated from the
University of Michigan at the age of seventeen. Loeb was known for his magnetic charm and his
inborn knack of making friends and winning everyone s affection. He was well dressed, handsome
and had a fascination with crime. Between the two boys it appeared that Loeb was the leader and
Leopold was his follower. A former classmate of Leopold, Paula Fass, spoke on behalf of Leopold
during a 1957 parole hearing and stated Loeb was a leader, aggressive, crafty, smart. Leopold was
definitely a follower. Loeb induced Leopold to make the tragic mistake of his life. (Gilbert Bienen,
1998, p.27).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was said that Loeb would allow Leopold sexual access to him if he agreed to engage in whatever
adventures Loeb devised. Leopold was portrayed, as being wildly in love with Loeb and even after
Loeb s death, his affection for him did not seem to diminish. During a parole hearing Leopold was
asked why he participated in the killing of Bobby Franks he said, I have been trying desperately to
fathom the situation. I will never quit trying. I admired Richard Loeb extravagantly, beyond all
bounds. I literally lived and died on his approval and disapproval. I would have done anything he
asked, even when I knew he was wrong, even when I was revolted by what he suggested. (Gilbert
Bienen, 1998, p28.) Leopold and Loeb s were unlikely killers and if their paths had never crossed it
is likely that neither would have committed such a horrible

Summary Of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
Set apart from the parameters of normal human society, Benjamin Button, a man who was born
to age backwards, falls in love with a young girl, Daisy, who ages forwards. Benjamin s story is
read aloud to Daisy by Caroline, her daughter, as she lay on her deathbed. In scenes set with
peculiar curiosity and subtle fantasy, Benjamin embarks on an unusual journey to grasp the
meaning of life and find his own sense of identity. Benjamin and Daisy s paths cross many times
before their unorthodox romance reaches fate and picks up in the middle. As he grows younger
and Daisy slows with age, Benjamin discovers the rich futility of love as time causes the two to
fall out of sync once again. Although its final plot ends like any other love story, David Finchers
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is arguably the next great cinematic breakthrough with its
unique emotional paradoxes, ingenuitive digital effects, and complex subplots. This movie was
challenging to evaluate because never before has a film combined subplot ingenuity so seamlessly
with the delicate techniques of innovative film making and traditional cinematic endings. One of
the most relevant criteria of the film is the presence of unique emotional paradoxes. The lead
character Benjamin Button, actor Brad Pitt, faces many unique emotional obstacles as he ages
completely opposite of the world around him. When he is a young boy, Button takes on the
appearance of an eighty year old man in a wheelchair unable to walk. As

Big Brother Isn T Watching You Analysis
Big Brother isn t watching you
Big Brother isn t watching you is a commentary written by the English comedian and actor Russell
Brand. The commentary was published on The Guardian s website in 2011. Russell Brand discusses
the riots which took place in England in august 2011. He further discusses how the politicians
reacted and handled the situation and the motives of the rioters and how the situation should be
handled.
Brand starts out by telling the reader that he no longer lives in England, and therefore some may
think that he shouldn t be speaking about the riots. By disclosing it in the beginning of the
commentary, he seems more self aware and throughout the text he proves his worth. Then he
continues on to telling of when he worked for Big Brother and he reveals how distorted reality TV
actually is. He is building up ethos by explaining that he has worked in the TV industry and shows
that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also uses sarcasm in the text to tell how he feels about the government and how they have
been handling the situation. An example of this is, I ve heard Theresa May and the Old
Estonians whose hols have been curtailed (many would say they re real victims) saying the
behavior is unjustifiable and unacceptable . Wow! Thanks guys! What a wonderful use of the
planet s fast depleting oxygen resources. (S. 8, LL.49 52). Here his tone is sarcastic, and this can
be seen several times throughout the commentary. He uses the sarcasm instead of directly
insulting the comments that were made. His sarcasm also shows his attitude towards how the
riots are being handled. Later on Brand more provocatively attacks politicians: Politicians don t
care about people that don t vote. They barely care about the people who do vote. (S.10, LL.94
95). This claim has no warrant, and first comes on the last page, where people may be more
inclined to agree with

How Did Justin Become A Peasant
Justinian belonged to a peasant family, and was not someone you d expect to become emperor.
However, he had an uncle named Justin who had entered into the Byzantine military. Justin was
considered a peasant, but had worked up through the ranks, becoming an imperial guard. Justin
adopted Justinian, after he brought him to Constantinople, and ensured that he became the first
person in their family to be educated. In 527, Justin died and Justinian formally became the leader
of a great empire.
He named his wife Theodora his empress. She was 15 years younger than him and his opposite in

one night until she is ripped away to be sold again. He is sold to many different owners; the

Executive Order Research Paper
Evaluation The president of the United States has always been viewed as someone who holds a
large amount of power within the United States. This power spans to a number of areas, but
perhaps one of the most commonly heard of is executive order. However, though many have
inevitably heard these words how many can say that they truly know what they mean? Not only
this, but once an understanding of this power has been set in place the question of what types of
checks and balances are set in place to keep this power in line with the Constitution is still
present. Therefore, through the course of this paper these two questions will be addressed. To
begin, a definition of executive orders will be given, as well as, an explanation of the authority
under which this power works. So, an executive order is a written form which the president uses to

A man who was a Justice is the one who established a tripartite scheme for determining if a
president overstepped his or her bounds. This tripartite boiled down to the presidents power to act
if Congress had approved, the presidents ability to act on independent power when Congress is
silent on the matter, and the presidents ability to act in his or her own domain disputed Congress s
objection. This framework is one that has withstood the test of time and ultimately helped
Congress establish when an executive order is still in line with the Constitution and when it is not.
In the end, the reason why these checks and balances have to be in place is because without them
the president could attempt to act outside of what this power actually provides. Historically this
has already happened, and that is why Justice Jackson created a way to decide whether or not the
president had overstepped his grounds with an executive

Power In Khaled Hosseini s A Thousand Splendid Suns
One moment she was talking and the next she was on all fours, wide eyed and red faced, trying
to draw a breath.... She howled with pain as he slammed the door shut. A key rattled in the lock
(268). Khaled Hosseini develops these images throughout the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns.
There are several imperative sections where locks and keys are used as a symbol of power. Through
Mariam, Laila, Aziza, and Zalmai, Hosseini reveals the true power Rasheed has over his wives and
children. From a young age Mariam is controlled by Jalil, who has power over both Mariam and
Nana as he keeps them locked in the kolba outside of town. When Mariam walks to Herat to visit
Jalil, she was locked outside of his house, and sleeps on his doorstep waiting for... Show more

He is in complete control of their lives, and keeps them locked away for three days without food
or water. Later when Rasheed s shop burns down, the family runs low on money for food. Due to
the risk of starving, Laila takes Aziza to the local orphanage where she will be better fed. While
Aziza is at the orphanage, Rasheed often refuses to walk with Laila to visit her, he does this to
take control over her, and tease her that she cannot see her daughter. When Tariq visits Laila,
Zalmai sees Tariq and tells Rasheed about him when Rasheed returns home from work. He took
Zalmai by the elbow. Zalmai meekly let himself be led upstairs.... Mariam saw his feet pounding
the steps as he came down. She saw him pocketing the key, (345). Rasheed proceeds to beat
Mariam and Laila profusely. He was still on top of Laila, his eyes wide and crazy, his hands
wrapped around her neck. Laila s face was turning blue now, her eyes had rolled back (348).
Mariam had gone to the toolshed to get a shovel, when she sees him killing Laila she brings the
shovel up and swings it down on him. He falls off of Laila, but Mariam raises the shovel again
and kills him. After Laila wakes up, Mariam reaches into his pocket and takes the keys. Khaled
Hosseini uses the symbolism of locks and keys throughout A Thousand Splendid Suns to show who
is in control, or has power over others. In the novel Rasheed commonly has control

A Red Line
Redlining is a red line that are drawn on maps to designate neighborhoods too risky for loans;
regardless of their credit says. White flight is when the white people would moved out of their
neighborhood because blacks were moving in their suburbs which causes riots. Many of the
realtors would not do businesses with blacks and many would have to pay a fee for it. FHA and
VA made programs for the banks to follow making sure they don t change or mixed racially
neighborhoods. The FHA and VA only insured certain areas of neighborhoods. They also drew
up restrictive sales barriers to nonwhites before the applied for FHA insured financing. Political
party machines helped the poor and new immigrants by help creating a safe environment for their
culture to hang out like bars, parks, and special events to enjoy. They also do great gesture to the
immigrants and expect favors in return like campaign events at their bar or hotel. Two examples,
Judd and Swanstorm present to bust this myths were the machines were selfish. They did not
support any one that get in the way of immigrants votes. They did not like reform even if it helps
the working class. Another one was the Progressive era where there was a generation of reforms
that helped improve the immigrants life form and work. They end up supporting both the working
class immigrants and middle class voters. Urban Renewal helped the cities come out of unsafe and

Ethical Nature In Lord Of The Flies
The Ethical Nature of an Individual How ethical nature of the individual is explained throughout
the Lord of the Flies and as civilization and savagery unfolds there is a lot of conflict. The story
revolves around a group of stranded pre teen boys who find it difficult to keep order within
themselves. They struggle with a beast and fearof the unknown and the fear that they may never
be rescued. They struggle with finding a balance in powers and when it s time to hunt and be
serious which leads to them as a group falling apart. This book shows that even if you try to have
a stable government whether it works or not will depend of the character of the people in the
society. Goldings idea is that an evil and controlling side of humans is controlled by rules and laws
but can come out and take controlwhen there is none of that. Fear makes the boys paranoid and
makes them vulnerable and easier to control and that s exactly what Jack does throughout the
story. Golding writes He came disguised. He may come again even though we gave him the
head of our kill to eat. So, watch; and be careful. (Goldening 160). This quote shows Jack is
scaring his tribe into staying at castle rock and not feeling away from him by using the fear of
the beast . Ralph is the opposite of Jack he tries to set down rules and find a way to try to get
rescued, There s another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island they
may not notice us. So, we must make smoke on top

Mummy Case of Paankhenamun Essay
Mummy Case of Paankhenamun Works Cited Not Included The work I chose to analyze was from
a wall fragment from the tomb of Ameneemhet and wife Hemet called Mummy Case of
Paankhenamun, found in the Art Institute of Chicago. The case of the Mummy Paankhenamun is
one of the most exquisite pieces of art produced by the Egyptian people during the time before
Christ. This coffin belonged to a man named Paankhenamun, which translates to He Lives for
Amun (Hornblower Spawforth 74). Paankhenamun was the doorkeeper of the temple of the god
Amun, a position he inherited from his father. Interestingly, X rays reveal that the mummy case of
Paankhenamun does in fact contain a mummy inside dating back to the years of c. 945 715 B.C....

Nonetheless, during the 12th Dynasty, there was a temple built for Amun s worship and toward
the end of the 18th Dynasty, Amun s status increased even more and he became known as ...the
great royal deity who was Father of the Gods and ruler of Egypt and the people of its empire
(Rosalie 104). The Mummy Case of Paankhenamun was composed of a substance known as
cartonnage, which was usually made out of linen or papyrus strips bound together with a sticky
substance in order to form a flexible shell. After mummification, the wrapped body was placed in
the coffin case through the back, which was then laced up and a footboard was added for
support. Only then the case was ready to be painted. Such cartonnage cases as the case of
Paankhenamun were normally placed inside one or more layered wooden coffins and were also
decorated. The innermost coffin was always in the shape of the mummy and due to its utmost
importance, it was the case with the richest decorations. The amazing detail is still a wonder to
many historians and anthropologists (Stockstad 120 3). Similarly to other Egyptian funerary
rituals, the case of Paankhenamun was also buried inside of a sarcophagus case, a huge stone case
for the coffin, and then inside of a decorated tomb, which most likely contained his most valuable
personal belongings and religious symbols. The decorations often consisted of images

What Is Medea s Treatment Of Women In Greek Society
In the play Medea, the author Euripides emphasizes that the harsh treatment the main character,
Medea, receives throughout the play reflects how women are treated in Greek society. The
hardships of women in Greek society can be mainly seen by Medea passionate soliloquies. Medea
speaks about how looked down upon, due to the fact that she a womanfrom a foreign country that
holds more intellect than most men in the city where she currently resides. Even Jason, her husband,

Medea is comparing that the process of getting a husband is like buying yourself to be sold into
slavery. Women cannot have the benefit of choosing whether they want a husband or not
because having a husband is crucial in Greek society during this era. It was a law that women
had to be represented by a guardian, who was normally the women s fathers or husbands.
Women were not given rights to be independent or take care of themselves. So in order for a
woman to ensure her survival, she must flatter a man into becoming her husband with either
money or personality. Personality wise, women must be obedient because men view women as
their trophy and believe that the only reason for their existence is to give birth. Men take a
master over our bodies suggest that a husband s ownership even goes to the extent that the
bodies of their wife/wives do not belong to them anymore. Men control what they want and put
a label on what they deem is necessary to claim in order to make women feel dependent on them.
The powerful diction of the use of the word evil suggests that the thought of a woman s body not
belonging to them anymore is far worse than the process of gaining a husband. Taking
possession of a body completely breaks a woman because it is their pride and joy. Once you break
it, it will never be the same again and women will feel helpless. However, They must comply with
the wishes of their husbands or else they will face the dire consequence of violence and

Copernicus And The First Pioneers Of Science
With each new development in science comes conflict, mostly from those who don t believe that
science follows the teachings of their religion or allies with their beliefs in an almighty power or
God. Looking back in history at some of the great names in human scientific achievement, such as
Copernicus, Galileo, and Darwin, we see that with each genius discovery came some outcry from
religious groups. Nikolaus Copernicus was one of the first pioneers of science. Until 1540 science
had long been a servant of the Christian religion, but Copernicus brought about change, and with
that change came persecution. Copernicus work, although not immediately and widely accepted,
lead directly to the undermining of centuries of assumption and superstition. He was the first to
state that not only was the earth not the center of the universe, but it also orbited the sun. Later in
history came Galileo who brought Copernicus ideas to practical fruition. He was also on the
receiving end of much religious persecution, even to the point of living out his last years under
house arrest, forbidden from writing and publishing. Then in the 1800 s Charles Darwin researched
and published revolutionary biology books on the theoryof evolution, his most widely known
book being The Origin of Species . Even today, long after his death, his works receive much
religious debate; religion today is no more apt at dealing with scientific theory than it was
hundreds of years ago; this is because it is a

Fear is something all humans share. This unity of having fear connects all of us together, along
with many other things. Fears themselves are not universal, and every human may have different
fears. In the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into
perspective, many of which I can say I fearmyself. While the question asked for the implications of
the ending, for me to fully understand the ending I must start from the beginning. The concern
about the truth of history and truth of the past, that the people in power are always watching you,
and not being allowed to have real emotions except towards the government are all fears brought on
in the novel, especially with the implications of the ending. As much as... Show more content on

The rise of great nations is a result of its citizens coming together to consider the all the

President Trump intends to repeal and replace every aspect of the Patient Protection and Affordable

The Fourth Amendment Of The United States Constitution
The Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution applies to a person and their home by
providing protection against unreasonable seizures and searches. While it provides protection, not
every search and seizure can be deemed unreasonable unless it is classified as per the law, by
determining whether there was: a) the level of intrusion of the individuals Fourth Amendment, and
b) whether or not it pertains to the government s interest, such as safety of the public.
The right to protection against unreasonable searches and seizures is associated with two types of
warrants:

It is vital for law enforcement to determine whether a search warrant, arrest warrant, or both is
needed. When an arrest is to take place within a dwelling where reasonable privacy is expected,
law enforcement must determine whether or not the prospective arrestee lives there. If the person
to be arrested lives there, only an arrest warrant is needed. If the dwelling belongs to a third party,
an arrest warrant and a search warrant is necessary. In order to comply with the Fourth Amendment
s protection of privacy, police must secure the appropriate warrant(s) and knock and announce their
presence.
There are three exceptions as to when officers do not need search or arrest warrants and/or
announce their presence:
a)Consent: When asking permission to enter, consent may be voluntarily given to law enforcement,
as long as the person has authority to do so, e.g. the homeowner. Non residential landlords,
babysitters, caretakers, etc. lack authority to provide consent.
b)Exigent (emergency) situations: Exigent circumstances can exist when the officer believes one or
both of the requirements are present:
Endangerment to the lives or safety of the officer, suspect, or third party
Knocking and announcing may able the suspect to escape
Knocking and announcing may lead to the destruction of the evidence

Essay about Reader-Response on Soldier s Home
Reader Response on Soldier s Home The initial reaction I received from reading Soldier s Home,
and my feelings about Soldier s Home now are not the same. Initially, I thought Harold Krebs is
this soldier who fought for two years, returns home, and is disconnected from society because he
is in a childlike state of mind, while everyone else has grown up. I felt that Krebs lost his
immature years, late teens to early 20 s, because he went from college to the military. I still see
him as disconnected from society, because there isn t anyone or anything that can connect him to
the simple life that his once before close friends and family are living. He has been through a

What if the town where you spent two years, was poor and that you learned to take part in the
daily operations of life in order for everyone in the family to be able to survive, eat, learn, and
live healthy. Now two years later, you return back to your hometown where things come easy,
people waste, and people are not as appreciative of the same things that you are. You dress
differently, you eat different foods, and you have a different outlook on life as a whole. How
would you feel if all your childhood friends and close family treated you like you were eccentric?
One reader felt that Krebs seems to have changed a lot and doesn t really seem to care about too
much . ( Reader , response 14). Krebs is not quite able to function in society as his friends and

the people in his hometown. Response 12 in Reader Responses to Soldier s Home suggest that

Each One Teach One Summary
The purpose for recommending individual exercises, is to couple them with the African American
proverb Each One Teach One. This concept was created in the U.S. when an enslaved person was
taught to read or write, which was a privilege denied to many if not almost all, that their duty was to
teach someone else. This term is still used within the African Americancultureand is a great way to
emphasize the value in community cultural wealth. Moreover, this will allow individuals to
enhance their knowledge, understanding, and value of lived experience within the cultures of
People of Color so that Each One CAN Teach One!
There are ten exercises that individuals can do that will educate them with on the value of other
cultures and have a better understanding of their role in racial microaggression situations: (1) learn
about your unconscious bias, (2) lean about microaggressions, (3) read texts written by People of
Color, (4) take ownership when you have made a mistake, (5) work continuously on cultural
proficiency, (6) obtain literature through ethnic agencies on racial/cultural information, (7) attend
conferences, workshops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first, is learning about your unconscious bias. This requires that the individual is honest with
themselves, which means they are willing to acknowledge their bias and work towards
addressing these areas of concern. One method to uncover these bias is by taking the Implicit
Association Test (IAT) offered online by Harvard University to measure the attitudes and beliefs
that people unwilling or unable to report (Project Implicit Harvard University, 2011). The next
exercise is learning about microaggressions. This can be accomplished by utilizing the references
in this essay, such as McCoy Rodricks (2015), Sue (2007) and Yosso (2005) to gain further

Fresh Off The Boat Stereotypes
Fresh Off the Boat is an ABC comedy, based on Eddie Huang s best selling memoir of the same
name, that has resonated with audiences perhaps in part thanks to its grounding in real
experiences. Set in the 1990 s, it tells the story of a young Eddie, played by newcommer, Hudson
Yang, and his experience moving from Washington DC s Chinatown to suburban Orlando,
Florida. Fresh Prince of Bel Air starred Will Smith as a fictionalized version of himself, who is
sent to live in an upper class Bel Air neighborhood from the streets of Philadelphia to live with his
wealthy uncle and aunt as a result of a fight. Both sitcoms, Fresh Off the Boat and the Fresh Prince

The theory suggests that the mass media could influence a very large group of people directly
and uniformly by shooting or injecting them with appropriate messages designed to trigger a
desired response. Stereotypes can be found in both sitcoms; although both shows find away to
have viewers look the other way. For example, asians have a long history of being made fun of
because of their thick accents. In Fresh Off the Boat, Eddie and his siblings speak like every
other American kid. In fact, asian names are a common joke as well, but the show s characters
have typical names. Media is an important source of information about a culture and media
portrayals contribute to public perception (Hodan, 2015). Fresh Prince of Bel Air is used as a
medium at which stereotypes are presented through the show. In the beginning years, Will is
shown as an outcast who brings embarrassment to his Bel Air family being conveyed as how the
average young black man is seen in society. However, in an episode where Will s uncle is utterly
embarrassed by his actions during a gathering at their home full of wealthy upper class patrons,
Uncle Phil himself is proved wrong of his misconceptions after hearing Will play FГјr Elise by
Beethoven. Prior to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, black families were portrayed as poor, uneducated
or broken. The show s attempt to screen out stereotypes and create a more positive image with
references that expand the cultural context is represented in the show in a brighter

Canada s Contribution To Multiculturalism
Canada is a country that is known globally as being accepting of all through it s efforts in
multiculturalism, a safe place to live for all, and a supportive country to it s citizens in need. When
you examine the history of Canada you can find both good examples to support the statements
above as well as examples where Canadahas missed the mark, especially when you consider the
acceptance of First Nation s people and their contribution to multiculturalism. On August 22, 1914
Canada enacted the War Measures Act. When Great Britain entered World War One and with
Canada being a part of Britain s sovereign nation there was concerns about citizens with enemy

Darwin s Theory Of Mate Selection
Mate Selection Mate selection is the picking and choosing of sexual partners that can be based
on both physical and biological processes. Mate selection, also called sexual selection, is not a
random process. Sexual selection is an evolutionary force that explains the never ending changes
of humankind. According to Darwin s Theory of Sexual Selection, sexual selection is fueled by
two fundamental ideas (Stanford 98). The first idea is that men struggle to find mates. The
second idea is that females struggle to choose the perfect mate. Now, the reason why men
struggle to find mates is because men do not necessarily get to pick and choose their mates. It is
mainly females that do the picking and choosing of mates. Females have limited reproductive
potential in comparison to males. Females have far greater levels of parental investment in
comparison to males, since males only need to gain access to a female, while females have to

Carey states that females with a waist to hip ratio of 0.7 are most desirable by males. Carey
states that female waist to hip ratios in between 0.67 to 1.18 are attractive to males. A waist to
hip ratio of 0.7 means that the waist is narrower than the hips. Likewise, females are attracted to
males with a waist to hip ratio in between 0.8 to 1.0. The reason for human attractiveness to
particular waist to hip ratios are due to the underlying health benefits. Human waist to hip ratio is
relative to the distribution of body fat in the body, and the distribution of body fat is due to two
sex hormones; estrogen and testosterone. Women with the right mixture of estrogen, and men with
the right mixture of testosterone will have ideal waist to hip ratios. According to Carey, men and
women that fall into the ideal respective waist to hip ratios are less susceptible to disease. Also,
women with ideal waist to hip ratios have less difficulty with conceiving

My Favorite Movies Essay
Have you ever thought about what kind of movies you have watched and why you have watched
them? Ever since I was a child, I always liked watching movies that had unique and interesting
characteristics in it. My parents told me that when I was a child I never wanted to watch movies
that were long and had boring plot. They tell me that I was very fussy on what movies I wanted
to watch, and that I always watched movies that encouraged or taught kids something good about
behaviour or environment.. Since my parents told me this, I can now very much relate to my
childhood and I think that I have not changed at all. This is because I am still very picky about the
movies I watch. All the movies should have certain characteristics such as acting, villain, and plot
in order to be considered good movies by the audience.
Without a good actor in a movie, the movie will seem mundane to the audience watching it. One
of the movies that I think has good acting is Home Alone. In this movie, there is a boy name
Kevin who is left behind at his house while his family goes on a vacation. This movie is all
about how Kevin, an eight year old boy, faces difficulties while he is alone at his house and
learns that two burglars are planning to rob his house. I think this movie is great and entertaining
because it shows how an eight year old kid deals with the robbery that was going to take place in
his house all by himself. Another movie that I believe has good acting is Star Wars The Force

The Cleveland Cavaliers had an entire summer to dwell on their crushing loss to the Golden State
Warriors in the 2015 NBA Finals.
I think last year is last year, and this year is this year, Cavs head coach David Blatt said at the
team s media day on Monday. We do have high expectations. Our goals are clear and are stated, but
not guaranteed.
It s important for all of us to not overstate, but to overachieve.
Blatt admitted he borrowed that last quote from Cavs general manager David Griffin, who never
fails to reiterate the organization s ultimate goal Bring a championship to the title starved city of
Cleveland.
The elephant in the room can t go unnoticed. The Cavs haven t won an NBA title since the
franchise came into existence, and the last time any professional team from Cleveland captured a
championship was more than 50 years ago. Media day 2015 was simply the first event of what

Significance And Innovation Of The Proposed Research
Significance and innovation of the proposed research The use and comprehension of the passive
sentence structure is the subject of much debate in the field of psycholinguistics. There have been
many studies conducted addressing the issue of why passive sentence structures are so underused
as compared to active sentence structures in children. Several studies have tried to show that
passive sentence structures can actually be elicited through structural priming, or more generally
being more exposed to that specific type of sentence. Although plenty of research as been
conducted examining the P600 response in reference to various types of syntactical anomalies, I
could not find one study that was specifically focused on the priming of passive sentence
structures, even though it is said that the P600 should respond to this specific sentence structure.
Therefore, the proposed study will contribute to the field of psycholinguistics by examining the
P600 response of children using the structural priming paradigm. Based on the results of the study,
the study may also be able to determine if the P600 response could serve as an adequate neural
marker for the effectiveness of passive voicestructural priming.
Study design The proposed study will make use of the structural priming paradigm used in previous
studies (GГЎmez Shimpi, 2015; Vasilyeva, Waterfall, GГ

as well as the measurement of event related potentials. Participants are to be randomly

The Issue Of Asylum Seekers
While the issue of asylum seekers has mainly challenged Australia s political power and resources,
the debate is mostly ethical and putting human dignity first is integral. Whilst both political parties
have very similar policies in regards to the topical issues, which are in essence going partially
against the Church s stance and human dignity. Australiahas the economy, land, low population
and living style to support more asylum seekers/refugees, especially when we have a ranking of
48 in the world on the scale of how many refugees we currently have accepted.
With both political parties having fairly similar opinions on the refugee situation, only having slight
differences, only a few differences separate the two, with labor wanting to increase the refugee
intake per year to almost double of what the coalition currently has in place which is 13,750 and
labor plan to raise it up to 27,000. (Australian Labor Party) Also labor also plans to reinstate the
UN s refugee convention, which Abbott is currently undermining, which is technically international
law. In one way this breach of international law Abbot has broken is refusing to take refugees that
has been allocated to Australia by the UN, for it is overstepping the coalitions humanitarian intake
policy. Also labor will work to implement a system to release the children from off shore and on
shore detention centres. As well as cutting down the time it takes for an asylum seeker going

Thin looks more healthy and attractive. Thin looks you more better in clothing that you would
want to wear. In my opinion, being thin is not what it is all cracked up to be. Being thin has
many benefits in a matter of health tissues, but being fat doesn t necessarily mean that the fat
person is close to have heart attack. It all depends on the person. Fat is good, it gives you that
insulation that you need during those long, lonely, cold nights because there s no one to hold

doesn t belong in the thin category, I strongly believe that I can be healthier without changing
my size dramatically. It s true that there are many health issues to consider when a person is fat,
but it is also true that many thin people have just as many problems. Many people strive to
become thin to look beautiful and can be accepted by our societies, especially models and

will always be a debate between fat and thin. In my opinion, fat is better. Despite the possible

Cultural Differences Between Brazil And Brazil Essay
Culture
Religion
Not only did the Portuguese influence Brazil about languages, but also religion. The Portuguese
brought over their religion which was Roman Catholic. About 64% of the population ascribes to the
Roman Catholic faith. Other religions in Brazil included: other Catholic religions, Protestant,
Christians, Spiritism, and others. Only 8% of the population ascribe to no religion of any kind

Diversity
Brazil has a rich culture with a unique blend of cultural variations. Brazil is even seen as one of
the world s most varied and diverse countries. There is a mixture of Indian, African, and European
blood. There are currently more than 190 million people in Brazil. Half of the population is white,
while 40% are mixed black and white. About 10% are black.
Crime often haunts the country of Brazil. Brazil has several issues with crime. Some of the most
common crimes include muggings, robbing, kidnappings, and gang violence. Another serious
problem is the corruption in the law enforcement divisions. Many people will not report any
incidents to the police because of fear ( Brazil, n.d.).
Cultural Variations
The Brazilian have a class system, where discrimination of skin color occurs daily. Those with
darker skin are typically disadvantaged. Class is also determined by economic status. Those in
the middle and upper classes often have little to no contact with the lower classes. The richest 10%

Difference Between Mind And Body
When asked whether there is a difference between mind and body, most people (e.g. most non
philosophers) will likely answer with an immediate yes. This is due to the fact that we have the
inherent belief that our mental processes differ from that of the physical. This idea just seems right.
However, if we truly believe that the mindhas a nonphysical existence then how can we reconcile
the relationship between mind and body an interaction between the nonphysical and the
physical? Furthermore, if we concede that the laws of physics, which only acknowledge the
existence of physical processes, are currently the most accurate descriptors of the world in which
we live, how can we continue to maintain this idea of a nonphysical existence of the mind in a
world solely influenced by physical causes? Therefore, in order to define the mind , we must first
consider these two conflicting ideas and distinguish the characteristics and capabilities of the mind
and how they differ from those of the body. In this paper I will argue that the mind is separate
from the body and not merely defined as a series of physical states.
Our first option in defining the mind is to solely rely on the physical laws of nature. However,
these physical laws only account for the physical states of the universe. Therefore, this option
argues that our mind states are identical with physical states and when we speak of the mind we
are merely stating a particular description of the physical world and

Al-Hakam II
All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed
toward ennobling man s life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the
individual towards freedom. This quote, once said by Albert Einstein, represents what Al Hakam II
had strived towards during his rule. Under his leadership, CГіrdoba experienced a golden age in the
arts and sciences. Al Hakam II and his father had built a vast library filled with books from all
over the world. He had also sponsored scholars, and established numerous schools throughout his
territory. However, despite the relative peace and prosperity, Al Hakam II had waged war against
leaders from other cultures and religions. In the year 632 AD,... Show more content on

Al Hakam told the generals to fight until everyone recognized his authority those who refused to
do so would be killed. One such person who refused to acknowledge him was Isdrisid Hasan ibn
QannЕ«n; and in the early 970s, he became the focus of Al Hakam s campaign. Al Hakam told
GhДЃlib that he would commit every last one of his soldiers and administration to the holy war
against this reprobate [fДЃsiq] . He and GhДЃlib always referred to Hasan as the reprobate [al
fДЃsiq], the heretic [al mulhid], the rebel [al mДЃriq], and the tyrant [al бє“ДЃlim]. In Al Hakam s
eyes, his eventual triumph over Hasan marked the extension of his authority over all of the western
Maghrib, and used this event to publicly announce his legitimacy as Caliph. Al RДЃzД« [historian]
reported that Al Hakam sent a letter announcing the surrender of Hasan to his governors, to be
read in all the congregational mosques. Although his victory in North Africa caused the rebellious
neighboring caliphs to acknowledge his rule, the same could not be said for the Christian kings.
One such king was Sancho I, who had become king of LeГіn after the death of his brother, in 955,
and deposed by his cousin, OrdoГ±o IV, in 958. After the death of Al NД

Caliph of Baghdad, and his expulsion, OrdoГ±o fled to the city of Burgos [Burghush] but was

his submission to the Caliph. With OrdoГ±o s complete submission, Al Hakam promised to restore

Latin American Natural Disasters
Natural disasters can have a significant impact on the health of a countries population. A disaster
is defined as any occurrence that causes damage, ecological destruction, loss of human lives, or
deterioration of health and health services on a scale sufficient to warrant an extraordinary
response. 1 Several factors play into how severly a country will be impacted following a natural
disaster such as their economic status, access to healthcare services, infrastructure, political
economies, etc. As the world is currently dealing with climate change affecting weather patterns
countries in the Caribbean and Latin America are more at risk now than ever to face natural
disasters. Latin America and the Caribbean faced a year of disaster in... Show more content on

The more developed socially and economically a country is the greater their chance of surviving
a natural disaster due to greater infrastructure, more access to healthcare and medical supplies,
and resources as well as more support for their citizens post disaster. Countries whose Gross
National Product relies on agriculture are left at a disadvantage and can be considered at risk.
When flooding interrupts the production and sale of agriculture a country will not be able to
produce funds for recovery following a natural disaster. Infrastructure in a country also directly
relates to morbidity following a disaster. Weaker infrastructure contributes to a greater rate of
morbidity due to the fact that more people can fall victim to flooding, drowning, and can be
killed if trapped under infrastructure. Following Hurricane Maria and Irma The country that was
most affected by hurricane Maria was Dominica, with over 90% of the island infrastructure
destroyed and critically damaged water, electricity and communication services. Its death rate at
37 deaths per 100,000 Due to their infrastructure power in Puerto Rico was knocked out entirely
and has still not recovered to this day. With a lack of power less patients who were injured could
be treated, several were left with no means of contact to send for help resulting in many deaths.
According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) The highest total mortality count was
in Puerto Rico with 51 deaths, followed by Dominica with 27 and Saint Martin and Cuba, both with
a total of 10 deaths.

Lear Goneril Quotes
Goneril s true colors become apparent to Lear after he moves into her home. The behavior of
both Lear and his entourage spark Goneril s anger. She voices her opinions and decides to
demand her father downsize his entourage. She says, The shame itself doth speak / For instant
remedy the remainders that shall still depend / to be such men as may besort your age, / Which
know themselves, and you (Act 1, scene 4, lines 240 246). She reverses the roles between herself
and Lear as she shames him; traditionally, a parent scolds the child. She makes it clear that she is
fixing this immediately without his approval. Goneril continues to degrade her father by
highlighting the lack of dignity inherent in his advanced age. Albany, Goneril s husband,... Show

Edmund, his bastard son, wants land and money that his title does not have access to. He
creates a plan to fool both his father and brother. Edmund forges a letter written from the

possibility of his murder. After Gloucester catches Edmund reading the letter, Edmund says, I
beseech you, sir, pardon me. It is a letter / from my brother...I find it not fit for you o erlooking

cautioning Gloucester, Edmund acts as if he is taking care of his father in order to instill
immediate trust between himself and his father. He further fools his father by saying, It is his

Anatomy And Physiology Of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
Abby Johnson
Mr. Mejewski
Anatomy and Physiology
Hour 4
What does a gardener, an athlete and a carpenter all have in common? Easy, they all have a higher
risk of acquiring tendinitis in their shoulders, more specifically rotator cuff tendonitis. Shoulders
are a very important component to the body, as they allow you to move your arms in any direction
you choose. Seeing that rotator cuff tendinitis is very frequently diagnosed, I was interested to learn
more about it and what makes it so common. A shoulderis one of the most complex joints of the
body. The anatomy of the shoulder starts where the humerusfits into the scapula almost as if it
were mimicking a ball and socket. The scapula has a little tip of itself overlooking the tendons of
the shoulder called the acromion and a bit of itself fanning out, a part called the coracoid. Also
connected to the scapula is the clavicle or collarbone. Another very important component to the
shoulder is the rotator cuff, this is the most vital part to rotator cuff tendonitis. It is composed of
four muscles and of various tendons that surround the shoulder socket that allow it to connect the
upper arm and the shoulder blade together. Protecting the rotator cuff is is a small sac of fluid
called a bursa. The humerus fits relatively loosely into the shoulder joint. This gives the shoulder a
wide range of motion, but also makes it vulnerable to injury. In macroscopic detail, the shoulder

Examples Of Identity In Brave New World
Community, Identity, Stability is the motto of Aldous Huxley s Brave New World. the World
State s motto, COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY (Huxley, 5). Basically, these words
describe the society of the new world and are the basics in building a perfect world as well as the
main goals of Utopia. Community is the relationship between the classes in the society of the
World State that live together. Even during death, a body is not left alone. Identity refers to the five
castes within the society: Epsilons, Alphas, Gammas, Betas, and Deltas. Identity differs among
each caste based on their roles within the society. Stability is the peaceful environment that is
created for the people of the Brave New World. In Brave New World, Community, Identity,

The connection among the societies gets stronger when people have sex with a person of their
choice. Community is achieved by systemizing life so that one is almost never alone. The
people of the Brave New World are controlled by a Controller known as Mustapha Mond in order
to achieve Community. Community is in part a result of identity and stability (Pearce, 1998).
Every child lives together without any parents and is conditioned to feel and think the same
way as others and to fear and have the same likes and dislikes, as well as the similar beliefs as the
other residents of the New World. Community is also achieved through a religion that satirizes
Christianity. In relation to this religion, the elder residents of the New World are urged to
participate in the Solidarity Service which includes community sing that one has to attend about
once a week which makes everyone feel connected. Solitude and loneliness does not exist in Brave
New World because everyone often entertains each other. Every caste benefits each other, fulfilling
the idea of Community. Every one works for every one else. We can t do without any one. Even

It is their job to build a strong foundation in order for their children to have a successful and
meaningful life. This foundation needs to be built starting at a young age, and needs to be kept
throughout the child s life. Morals are probably the most import part in an individual s life.
Morals define whats right and whats wrong and good from bad. Crime is often times associated
with a lack of morality. Juvenile develop as a result of broken homes, low self esteem and a lack
of parental love, When this part of the foundation is missing, a person can become corrupt. The
parents really need to focus in on teaching their children morals, because it will shape the
character of the individual and help him to become a better person. These morals will help
guide the child throughout their lifetime. The crime rate would be considerably lower in the
world if this crucial piece of the foundation is properly assembled. Parents can also influence the
religious beliefs of the child. This is also another very important thing for a child to understand
and learn. Religion may give the child someone or something to pray to when in a time of need. It
also will give the child a sense of hope and faith. Without hope and faith, the child may find
himself to be lost and confused, and religion will hopefully shed light on the right path and help to
make better life decisions. Good Parents should guide children in

feelings or emotions are shown. Soma can drive any bad thoughts out of mind. Doctors declare that

Like soma drug in Brave New World, in The Giver, there is a relief of pain medication that is
provided to community members to relieve their pains so that no one can suffer. Whenever there
is any kind of unpleasant thought or pain or disease, people are immediately given this unnamed
medication. This medication is given to all people of the community except for the Giver who
bears the pains and memories of the whole society. It is in the form of ointment or pills or injection:

The first view concerns the authoritarian governments who see that by achieving conformity and
sameness, they succeed to achieve happiness, stability and consequently utopia. The second view
concerns the dystopian protagonists, Bernard Marx, John the Savage and Jonas, who see that by
losing individuality, identity, freedom, love and family in return for unreal false happiness and
superficial stability, the people lost their humanity and live in a dystopia. In Brave New World,
Mustafa Mond confirms the first view of the authorities:
The world s stable now. People are happy; they get what they want, and they never want what
they can t get. They re well off; they re safe; they re never ill; they re not afraid of death; they re
blissfully ignorant of passion and old age; they re plagued with no mothers or fathers; they ve got
no wives, or children, or lovers to feel strongly about; they re so conditioned that they practically
can t help behaving as they ought to behave (Huxley, Brave 183).

Anthem Characters
Anthem In this paper, I will be talking about the book called Anthem. I will be talking about
characters such as protagonists and antagonists and how some characters impacted the story. I will
talk about the setting, conflicts, and plot of the story. I will also talk about literary devices such as
point of view, symbolism, mood, tone, and theme. In Anthem, there are a couple of characters and
some are only mentioned and some only have a few lines of dialogue. The protagonistof Anthem is
Prometheus or Equality 7 2521 and the antagonists are the Council of Scholars. The council of
scholars would be the antagonists because they told the society how to think and that made
Prometheus think that he had a curse and was committing a lot of sins and to atone for his sins he
accepted the job as a street sweeper with any complaint. Two characters that influenced the plot are
Gaea and International 4 8818. Gaea or Liberty 5 3000 influences the plot by Prometheus noticing
her and speaking to her when they aren t supposed thus breaking a rule and later going to the
Uncharted forest to find Prometheus and live with him. International 4 8818 influenced the story by
making Prometheus think of him as his friend thus favoring him over other men which are against
the rule and keeping quiet about the tunnel that Prometheus and he found. These two characters
made Prometheus break the rules and was pushing him to have more a free will than the other men.

Use Of Small Volume Fluids On Scale Of The Field Of...
ABSTRACT
Microfluidics biochips are revolutionary devices in the field of clinical diagnostics, DNA
analysis and molecular biology. Biochips involve various fields of science and engineering i.e.,
physics, chemistry, biochemistry, nanotechnology, fabrication technology and computer science.
It uses small volume fluids on scale of micro to nano liter for automatically carrying out the
reactions needed for some biochemical assays. In this report I have covered basic overview of
biochips, kinds of biochips, areas of research, existing problems and finally presented work done
till now in area of sample preparation specifically dilution and mixing Algorithms for Digital
Microfluidics Biochips.
INTRODUCTION
Microfluidics biochips are emerging devices for analysis of biological assay, and have its potential
application in the field of healthcare because of its point of care diagnostic capability. These
chips are of very small size typically of few centimeters [4]. These chips also have its application
in Biological computing it can be used as sample preparation primitive which reduces the
operations time. DNA hybridization can be reduced to 4min from 24hrs [2] by using it. Due to its
small size and low cost it feasible to use in place of bulky convention diagnosis devices.
These biochips also used to monitor toxicity of air and water. It has many advantages such as
micro liter fluids amount required for assay operation, high speed analysis, less cost in

Dodge Challenger Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Free, new, 50% off advertising, an immensely paramount aspect in today s society, has the ability
to promote or demote a newly developed product. With such a vast array of public notices, it s
crucial that they appeal to people psychologically, using rhetorical devices. During an expedition for
the most complex, eye catching ad, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the 2010 Dodge
Challenger. Astounded by the multiplex of this advertisement, my inner curiosity was enkindled. In
this persuasive notice, the appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos are strategically used to persuade the
target audience that the 2010 Dodge Challenger is the car for them.
Visual Aesthetics
The foremost president of the United States, George Washington, proudly stands before a

Dodge would place an ad for the Challenger in a magazine that men worship instead of Seventeen

New Testament Beliefs
Theism is the belief of God that we learn from the Old and New Testament writings. It has three
beliefs. First, is that God is beyond anything we could possibly envision, and that He resides in the
world with us. He is transcendent and immanent at the same time. Second, is that God created the
world from ex nihilo. Godalone without any help created the universe from nothing. Third, is the
belief that God is a supernatural, miracle producing God (Case, 2000, p. 10 12). As I reflect on the
three core beliefs of theism, it heightens my understanding of who I am. If I am of God, then I
should think of myself with more authority and power, not projecting self righteousness, but
projecting more confidence. The mere fact that I am created

Compare And Contrast Pablo Picasso And Las Meninas

By Alyssa WagnerDiego VelГ
Ўzquez and Pablo Picasso both created a work of art called Las
Meninas. VelГЎzquez created this painting for the royal family of Spain. Picasso created 58
interpretations of Las Meninas, but each in their own unique way. He may have borrowed
VelГЎzquez s idea, but he created his own, very original, works of art around that idea. Now, the
58 pieces stand in a museum in Spain, where they are displayed to be gazed upon and to be
appreciated by other citizens of Spain. VelГЎzquez s Las Meninas is now in Museo del Prado, in
Madrid, Spain.VelГЎzquez s Las Meninas and Picasso s Versions of Las Meninas have quite a
few similarities. For starters, in both paintings there is the little princess in the middle of a
room. She is also wearing the same outfit in each painting, even though Picasso s version looks a
little more like a block. In both of the pictures, the little princess is taking what looks like a cup
from one of her ladies in waiting that is handing it to her on a golden tray. If you look closely at
VelГЎzquez s painting, you can see that the cup in the princess hand has a hint of red color, and
Picasso s also added a bit of orange color to the cup in his painting. In both pieces, you can see
that the room that the little princess stands in is dark, with different shades of dark colors, like
gray, black, and a lighter gray. There are few differences between the two Las Meninas paintings.
Here s a few of them. One is

Pros Of Leasing
In the vast majority of situations here in the United States, I recommend leasing over any other
ways to finance and drive a car.
This might surprise you.
Because we have been brainwashed that leasing is a fool s way to drive a car.
But when we exploit the benefits of leasing (and avoid the common traps), we are able to drive a
lot more car for a lot less money over our lifetime.
*** We all know leasing is confusing
Leasing is meant to seem complicated.
This is done on purpose, because it tricks (most) people into making poor financial choices. And
these bad decisions puts more profit into the dealer s bank account.
But when we exploit leasing in our favor, it is almost always cheaper than any other form of
financing a new car.

I am about to share with you the big loophole of new car leasing.
Ready?
Here it is...
It is a secret that most people do not know about.
It is the secret that gets most people thinking leasing has mileage and damage penalties.
But the secret is this:
The legal loophole around paying for end of lease penalties is to get the dealership to buy our car
back from us (instead of turning it in).
Let me repeat this, because it is the secret to get more car for less money.
At any time during a lease, we can sell our leased car to any dealership on the planet. It does not
matter if we sell a leased Toyota to a BMW dealership or a leased Audi to a Honda dealership.
Because as soon as we sell the car to the dealership, the lease company gets paid off and cannot
charge us for end of lease extras.
This is known as a early lease buyout .
It is the cost that anyone can buy the car for. And it is calculated at the same time we sign the lease
paperwork.
Even better, some dealerships will offer us more for our leased car than the early lease buyout.
Why? Because they can flip our leased car and sell it used on their lot for a ton of profit. (More on

  • 2. Comparing Leopold And Loeb s Life Leopold and Loeb both came from very wealthy families and had remarkable academic records. At eighteen years old Leopold had already obtained his bachelor s degree from the university of Chicago and was attending law school at Chicago. Of the two, Leopold had a significantly higher IQ, far above the regular scale. Although Leopold was brighter, he was relatively unattractive, awkward, and socially ill at ease. Loeb on the other hand graduated from the University of Michigan at the age of seventeen. Loeb was known for his magnetic charm and his inborn knack of making friends and winning everyone s affection. He was well dressed, handsome and had a fascination with crime. Between the two boys it appeared that Loeb was the leader and Leopold was his follower. A former classmate of Leopold, Paula Fass, spoke on behalf of Leopold during a 1957 parole hearing and stated Loeb was a leader, aggressive, crafty, smart. Leopold was definitely a follower. Loeb induced Leopold to make the tragic mistake of his life. (Gilbert Bienen, 1998, p.27).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was said that Loeb would allow Leopold sexual access to him if he agreed to engage in whatever adventures Loeb devised. Leopold was portrayed, as being wildly in love with Loeb and even after Loeb s death, his affection for him did not seem to diminish. During a parole hearing Leopold was asked why he participated in the killing of Bobby Franks he said, I have been trying desperately to fathom the situation. I will never quit trying. I admired Richard Loeb extravagantly, beyond all bounds. I literally lived and died on his approval and disapproval. I would have done anything he asked, even when I knew he was wrong, even when I was revolted by what he suggested. (Gilbert Bienen, 1998, p28.) Leopold and Loeb s were unlikely killers and if their paths had never crossed it is likely that neither would have committed such a horrible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Set apart from the parameters of normal human society, Benjamin Button, a man who was born to age backwards, falls in love with a young girl, Daisy, who ages forwards. Benjamin s story is read aloud to Daisy by Caroline, her daughter, as she lay on her deathbed. In scenes set with peculiar curiosity and subtle fantasy, Benjamin embarks on an unusual journey to grasp the meaning of life and find his own sense of identity. Benjamin and Daisy s paths cross many times before their unorthodox romance reaches fate and picks up in the middle. As he grows younger and Daisy slows with age, Benjamin discovers the rich futility of love as time causes the two to fall out of sync once again. Although its final plot ends like any other love story, David Finchers The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is arguably the next great cinematic breakthrough with its unique emotional paradoxes, ingenuitive digital effects, and complex subplots. This movie was challenging to evaluate because never before has a film combined subplot ingenuity so seamlessly with the delicate techniques of innovative film making and traditional cinematic endings. One of the most relevant criteria of the film is the presence of unique emotional paradoxes. The lead character Benjamin Button, actor Brad Pitt, faces many unique emotional obstacles as he ages completely opposite of the world around him. When he is a young boy, Button takes on the appearance of an eighty year old man in a wheelchair unable to walk. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Big Brother Isn T Watching You Analysis Big Brother isn t watching you Big Brother isn t watching you is a commentary written by the English comedian and actor Russell Brand. The commentary was published on The Guardian s website in 2011. Russell Brand discusses the riots which took place in England in august 2011. He further discusses how the politicians reacted and handled the situation and the motives of the rioters and how the situation should be handled. Brand starts out by telling the reader that he no longer lives in England, and therefore some may think that he shouldn t be speaking about the riots. By disclosing it in the beginning of the commentary, he seems more self aware and throughout the text he proves his worth. Then he continues on to telling of when he worked for Big Brother and he reveals how distorted reality TV actually is. He is building up ethos by explaining that he has worked in the TV industry and shows that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also uses sarcasm in the text to tell how he feels about the government and how they have been handling the situation. An example of this is, I ve heard Theresa May and the Old Estonians whose hols have been curtailed (many would say they re real victims) saying the behavior is unjustifiable and unacceptable . Wow! Thanks guys! What a wonderful use of the planet s fast depleting oxygen resources. (S. 8, LL.49 52). Here his tone is sarcastic, and this can be seen several times throughout the commentary. He uses the sarcasm instead of directly insulting the comments that were made. His sarcasm also shows his attitude towards how the riots are being handled. Later on Brand more provocatively attacks politicians: Politicians don t care about people that don t vote. They barely care about the people who do vote. (S.10, LL.94 95). This claim has no warrant, and first comes on the last page, where people may be more inclined to agree with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Executive Order Research Paper Evaluation The president of the United States has always been viewed as someone who holds a large amount of power within the United States. This power spans to a number of areas, but perhaps one of the most commonly heard of is executive order. However, though many have inevitably heard these words how many can say that they truly know what they mean? Not only this, but once an understanding of this power has been set in place the question of what types of checks and balances are set in place to keep this power in line with the Constitution is still present. Therefore, through the course of this paper these two questions will be addressed. To begin, a definition of executive orders will be given, as well as, an explanation of the authority under which this power works. So, an executive order is a written form which the president uses to direct the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A man who was a Justice is the one who established a tripartite scheme for determining if a president overstepped his or her bounds. This tripartite boiled down to the presidents power to act if Congress had approved, the presidents ability to act on independent power when Congress is silent on the matter, and the presidents ability to act in his or her own domain disputed Congress s objection. This framework is one that has withstood the test of time and ultimately helped Congress establish when an executive order is still in line with the Constitution and when it is not. In the end, the reason why these checks and balances have to be in place is because without them the president could attempt to act outside of what this power actually provides. Historically this has already happened, and that is why Justice Jackson created a way to decide whether or not the president had overstepped his grounds with an executive ... She howled with pain as he slammed the door shut. A key rattled in the lock (268). Khaled Hosseini develops these images throughout the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. There are several imperative sections where locks and keys are used as a symbol of power. Through Mariam, Laila, Aziza, and Zalmai, Hosseini reveals the true power Rasheed has over his wives and children. From a young age Mariam is controlled by Jalil, who has power over both Mariam and Nana as he keeps them locked in the kolba outside of town. Due to the risk of starving, Laila takes Aziza to the local orphanage where she will be better fed. While Aziza is at the orphanage, Rasheed often refuses to walk with Laila to visit her, he does this to take control over her, and tease her that she cannot see her daughter. When Tariq visits Laila, Zalmai sees Tariq and tells Rasheed about him when Rasheed returns home from work. He took Zalmai by the elbow. Zalmai meekly let himself be led upstairs.... Mariam saw his feet pounding the steps as he came down. She saw him pocketing the key, (345). Rasheed proceeds to beat Mariam and Laila profusely. He was still on top of Laila, his eyes wide and crazy, his hands wrapped around her neck. Laila s face was turning blue now, her eyes had rolled back (348). Mariam had gone to the toolshed to get a shovel, when she sees him killing Laila she brings the shovel up and swings it down on him. He falls off of Laila, but Mariam raises the shovel again and kills him. After Laila wakes up, Mariam reaches into his pocket and takes the keys. White flight is when the white people would moved out of their neighborhood because blacks were moving in their suburbs which causes riots. Many of the realtors would not do businesses with blacks and many would have to pay a fee for it. FHA and VA made programs for the banks to follow making sure they don t change or mixed racially neighborhoods. The FHA and VA only insured certain areas of neighborhoods. They also drew up restrictive sales barriers to nonwhites before the applied for FHA insured financing. • 12. Ethical Nature In Lord Of The Flies The Ethical Nature of an Individual How ethical nature of the individual is explained throughout the Lord of the Flies and as civilization and savagery unfolds there is a lot of conflict. The story revolves around a group of stranded pre teen boys who find it difficult to keep order within themselves. They struggle with a beast and fearof the unknown and the fear that they may never be rescued. They struggle with finding a balance in powers and when it s time to hunt and be serious which leads to them as a group falling apart. This book shows that even if you try to have a stable government whether it works or not will depend of the character of the people in the society. Goldings idea is that an evil and controlling side of humans is controlled by rules and laws but can come out and take controlwhen there is none of that. Fear makes the boys paranoid and makes them vulnerable and easier to control and that s exactly what Jack does throughout the story. Golding writes He came disguised. He may come again even though we gave him the head of our kill to eat. So, watch; and be careful. (Goldening 160). This quote shows Jack is scaring his tribe into staying at castle rock and not feeling away from him by using the fear of the beast . Ralph is the opposite of Jack he tries to set down rules and find a way to try to get rescued, There s another thing. We can help them to find us. • 13. Mummy Case of Paankhenamun Essay Mummy Case of Paankhenamun Works Cited Not Included The work I chose to analyze was from a wall fragment from the tomb of Ameneemhet and wife Hemet called Mummy Case of Paankhenamun, found in the Art Institute of Chicago. The case of the Mummy Paankhenamun is one of the most exquisite pieces of art produced by the Egyptian people during the time before Christ. This coffin belonged to a man named Paankhenamun, which translates to He Lives for Amun (Hornblower Spawforth 74). Paankhenamun was the doorkeeper of the temple of the god Amun, a position he inherited from his father. Interestingly, X rays reveal that the mummy case of Paankhenamun does in fact contain a mummy inside dating back to the years of c. 945 715 B.C.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nonetheless, during the 12th Dynasty, there was a temple built for Amun s worship and toward the end of the 18th Dynasty, Amun s status increased even more and he became known as ...the great royal deity who was Father of the Gods and ruler of Egypt and the people of its empire (Rosalie 104). The Mummy Case of Paankhenamun was composed of a substance known as cartonnage, which was usually made out of linen or papyrus strips bound together with a sticky substance in order to form a flexible shell. After mummification, the wrapped body was placed in the coffin case through the back, which was then laced up and a footboard was added for support. Only then the case was ready to be painted. Such cartonnage cases as the case of Paankhenamun were normally placed inside one or more layered wooden coffins and were also decorated. The innermost coffin was always in the shape of the mummy and due to its utmost importance, it was the case with the richest decorations. The amazing detail is still a wonder to many historians and anthropologists (Stockstad 120 3). Women cannot have the benefit of choosing whether they want a husband or not because having a husband is crucial in Greek society during this era. It was a law that women had to be represented by a guardian, who was normally the women s fathers or husbands. Women were not given rights to be independent or take care of themselves. So in order for a woman to ensure her survival, she must flatter a man into becoming her husband with either money or personality. Personality wise, women must be obedient because men view women as their trophy and believe that the only reason for their existence is to give birth. Men take a master over our bodies suggest that a husband s ownership even goes to the extent that the bodies of their wife/wives do not belong to them anymore. Men control what they want and put a label on what they deem is necessary to claim in order to make women feel dependent on them. The powerful diction of the use of the word evil suggests that the thought of a woman s body not belonging to them anymore is far worse than the process of gaining a husband. Copernicus And The First Pioneers Of Science With each new development in science comes conflict, mostly from those who don t believe that science follows the teachings of their religion or allies with their beliefs in an almighty power or God. Looking back in history at some of the great names in human scientific achievement, such as Copernicus, Galileo, and Darwin, we see that with each genius discovery came some outcry from religious groups. Nikolaus Copernicus was one of the first pioneers of science. Until 1540 science had long been a servant of the Christian religion, but Copernicus brought about change, and with that change came persecution. Copernicus work, although not immediately and widely accepted, lead directly to the undermining of centuries of assumption and superstition. He was the first to state that not only was the earth not the center of the universe, but it also orbited the sun. Later in history came Galileo who brought Copernicus ideas to practical fruition. He was also on the receiving end of much religious persecution, even to the point of living out his last years under house arrest, forbidden from writing and publishing. Then in the 1800 s Charles Darwin researched and published revolutionary biology books on the theoryof evolution, his most widely known book being The Origin of Species . Even today, long after his death, his works receive much religious debate; religion today is no more apt at dealing with scientific theory than it was hundreds of years ago; this is because it is a ... Significance And Innovation Of The Proposed Research Significance and innovation of the proposed research The use and comprehension of the passive sentence structure is the subject of much debate in the field of psycholinguistics. There have been many studies conducted addressing the issue of why passive sentence structures are so underused as compared to active sentence structures in children. Several studies have tried to show that passive sentence structures can actually be elicited through structural priming, or more generally being more exposed to that specific type of sentence. Although plenty of research as been conducted examining the P600 response in reference to various types of syntactical anomalies, I could not find one study that was specifically focused on the priming of passive sentence structures, even though it is said that the P600 should respond to this specific sentence structure. • 40. Difference Between Mind And Body When asked whether there is a difference between mind and body, most people (e.g. most non philosophers) will likely answer with an immediate yes. This is due to the fact that we have the inherent belief that our mental processes differ from that of the physical. This idea just seems right. However, if we truly believe that the mindhas a nonphysical existence then how can we reconcile the relationship between mind and body an interaction between the nonphysical and the physical? Furthermore, if we concede that the laws of physics, which only acknowledge the existence of physical processes, are currently the most accurate descriptors of the world in which we live, how can we continue to maintain this idea of a nonphysical existence of the mind in a world solely influenced by physical causes? Therefore, in order to define the mind , we must first consider these two conflicting ideas and distinguish the characteristics and capabilities of the mind and how they differ from those of the body. In this paper I will argue that the mind is separate from the body and not merely defined as a series of physical states. Our first option in defining the mind is to solely rely on the physical laws of nature. However, these physical laws only account for the physical states of the universe. Therefore, this option argues that our mind states are identical with physical states and when we speak of the mind we are merely stating a particular description of the physical world and ... The more developed socially and economically a country is the greater their chance of surviving a natural disaster due to greater infrastructure, more access to healthcare and medical supplies, and resources as well as more support for their citizens post disaster. Countries whose Gross National Product relies on agriculture are left at a disadvantage and can be considered at risk. When flooding interrupts the production and sale of agriculture a country will not be able to produce funds for recovery following a natural disaster. Infrastructure in a country also directly relates to morbidity following a disaster. Weaker infrastructure contributes to a greater rate of morbidity due to the fact that more people can fall victim to flooding, drowning, and can be killed if trapped under infrastructure. Anatomy And Physiology Of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Abby Johnson Mr. Mejewski Anatomy and Physiology Hour 4 What does a gardener, an athlete and a carpenter all have in common? Easy, they all have a higher risk of acquiring tendinitis in their shoulders, more specifically rotator cuff tendonitis. Shoulders are a very important component to the body, as they allow you to move your arms in any direction you choose. Seeing that rotator cuff tendinitis is very frequently diagnosed, I was interested to learn more about it and what makes it so common. A shoulderis one of the most complex joints of the body. The anatomy of the shoulder starts where the humerusfits into the scapula almost as if it were mimicking a ball and socket. The scapula has a little tip of itself overlooking the tendons of the shoulder called the acromion and a bit of itself fanning out, a part called the coracoid. Also connected to the scapula is the clavicle or collarbone. Another very important component to the shoulder is the rotator cuff, this is the most vital part to rotator cuff tendonitis. It is composed of four muscles and of various tendons that surround the shoulder socket that allow it to connect the upper arm and the shoulder blade together. Protecting the rotator cuff is is a small sac of fluid called a bursa. The humerus fits relatively loosely into the shoulder joint. This gives the shoulder a wide range of motion, but also makes it vulnerable to injury. In macroscopic detail, the shoulder looks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Compare And Contrast Pablo Picasso And Las Meninas Page 1 of 2 ZOOM By Alyssa WagnerDiego VelГ Ўzquez and Pablo Picasso both created a work of art called Las Meninas. VelГЎzquez created this painting for the royal family of Spain. Picasso created 58 interpretations of Las Meninas, but each in their own unique way. He may have borrowed VelГЎzquez s idea, but he created his own, very original, works of art around that idea. Now, the 58 pieces stand in a museum in Spain, where they are displayed to be gazed upon and to be appreciated by other citizens of Spain. VelГЎzquez s Las Meninas is now in Museo del Prado, in Madrid, Spain.VelГЎzquez s Las Meninas and Picasso s Versions of Las Meninas have quite a few similarities. For starters, in both paintings there is the little princess in the middle of a room. She is also wearing the same outfit in each painting, even though Picasso s version looks a little more like a block. In both of the pictures, the little princess is taking what looks like a cup from one of her ladies in waiting that is handing it to her on a golden tray. In both pieces, you can see that the room that the little princess stands in is dark, with different shades of dark colors, like gray, black, and a lighter gray. There are few differences between the two Las Meninas paintings. Here s a few of them. One is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Pros Of Leasing In the vast majority of situations here in the United States, I recommend leasing over any other ways to finance and drive a car. This might surprise you. Because we have been brainwashed that leasing is a fool s way to drive a car. But when we exploit the benefits of leasing (and avoid the common traps), we are able to drive a lot more car for a lot less money over our lifetime. *** We all know leasing is confusing Leasing is meant to seem complicated. This is done on purpose, because it tricks (most) people into making poor financial choices. And these bad decisions puts more profit into the dealer s bank account. But when we exploit leasing in our favor, it is almost always cheaper than any other form of financing a new car. *** ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am about to share with you the big loophole of new car leasing. Ready? Here it is... It is a secret that most people do not know about. It is the secret that gets most people thinking leasing has mileage and damage penalties. But the secret is this: The legal loophole around paying for end of lease penalties is to get the dealership to buy our car back from us (instead of turning it in). Let me repeat this, because it is the secret to get more car for less money. At any time during a lease, we can sell our leased car to any dealership on the planet. It does not matter if we sell a leased Toyota to a BMW dealership or a leased Audi to a Honda dealership.
  • 58. Because as soon as we sell the car to the dealership, the lease company gets paid off and cannot charge us for end of lease extras. This is known as a early lease buyout . It is the cost that anyone can buy the car for. And it is calculated at the same time we sign the lease paperwork. Even better, some dealerships will offer us more for our leased car than the early lease buyout. Why? Because they can flip our leased car and sell it used on their lot for a ton of profit.
