Summary Of The Rape Of Lucretia
In Livy s story the Rape of Lucretia, the writer illustrated prime examples on how gender is
represented in Roman society. The assumptions of both men and women roles within the Roman
Empire are defined and presented within this legend. The expectations of men, women, and honor
are identified to provide examples of the conventions about genderin Roman society. Men in the
legend were presented as being heavy drinkers and strong. On the other hand, women were
represented as being pure and weak in the eyes of men. The contrasting views of both men and
women help illustrate the assumptions about gender in Roman society defined in the story. In the
legend, men were shown to be heavy drinkers and vastly stronger compared to their female
counterpart.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lucretia was illustrated to be pure, faithful, and display honor to her husband, ...all impressed by
Lucretia s chaste honor (LVIII). On the other hand, Livy explained how weak and defenseless
women were during ancient Rome. At the same time, the author explained how men, such as
Sextus Tarquinius, could easily take advantage of women. Livy also expressed how honor was
vital for women to keep and maintain. The moment that Sextus viciously destroyed Lucretia s
honor by taking her chastity, illustrated how important honor was in the Roman empire. Lucretia
felt like she was in the wrong even though it was not her fault; however, the mindset that the
expectation of women should show honor and be faithful was extremely important in Roman
society. The overall assumption of women in Roman society to be pure, faithful, and display honor
was greatly exemplified in Livy s legend. The expectation for women to live up to their general
duties during this time was a huge focus in the Roman empire. Thus, Livy presented the
assumptions about women in Roman society to be weak compared to men, and should be faithful
and show honor towards her

How Does Mcmurphy Attack Nurse Ratched
Section 5
Page Range: 230 281
Dates Read: 10/16 10/20
Original Summary: After getting into a fight to protect another patient from the staff, Nurse
Ratched urges McMurphy to apologize, but he refuses and gets subjected to multiple electroshock
treatments and the others, knowing that the nurse will continue to do this to him, urge him to
escape. McMurphy refuses and tells everyone that he will sneak in prostitutes tonight for the date
he scheduled for Billy, and later he plans to make everything look like an escape attempt so that
no one will get in trouble and so he can run away from the ward. The plan fails and everyone is
caught. Nurse Ratched threatens to tell Billy s mother of what happened and he later ends up
killing himself. Nurse Ratched blames McMurphy for the deaths of the patients and out of anger,
McMurphy strangles her. Later, many of the staff and patients leave, and Nurse Ratched returns
but can no longer speak, and McMurphy is in a vegetative state after he is forced to have a
lobotomy for attacking Nurse Ratched. Chief ends up smothering McMurphy to put him out of his
misery and later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is able to freely make his choices again and has learned to overcome the adversities of the
world. He has learned to become big again and not let others bring him down. This quote shows
that Chief is now strong enough to go back home and face the very things that caused him to
become broken. He is still damaged, but is now able to face the world head on as he has learned
from McMurphy. I chose this quote because it shows the change in Chief, how he went from a
scared giant in the beginning of the story to a strong enough individual that is able to walk
forward on his own. McMurphy ends up losing his voice in the end, sacrificing himself for the
freedom of the other patients and Chief doesn t truly gain his own power until he chooses to end
McMurphy s life as an act of mercy and choosing to

Childhood Amnesia and the Beginnings of Memory for Four...
When we ask people to recall experiences, they rarely report memories dating from much before
about three years of age. For the purpose of this assessment I have chosen the Childhood Amnesia
and the Beginnings of Memory for Four Early Life Events conducted by JoNell A. Usher and Ulric
Neisser, published in 1993 in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General. Therefore, in the
following paragraphs I will outline the aim of the study, the methodology and the overall findings.
The current research indicates that most of the early memories are of distressing experiences. It is
predicted that under certain conditions, children are able to recall painful and potentially harrowing
medical experiences, such as shots (Goodman, Rudy, Bottoms, ... Show more content on

Participants were aware of the background survey but they did not know that the experiment was
focused on memory.
In terms of the methodology, the investigators used a specific number of questionnaires per targeted
events. To assess the offset of childhood amnesiatwo main, broad, questionnaires were used. Each
one with subsequent, more relevant and event targeted, set of questions. Additionally, participants
were instructed to analyse the frequency and recency of their thoughts in relation to the target event
using 4 point and 5 point scales. Furthermore, participants mothers were told to evaluate what their
children reported as childhood memories. In order to try to trigger their memory, researchers asked
the participants about external information sources , such as photographs, personal stories, etc.
Even though the researchers were allowed to select the participants and classify them into
predefined categories however, this approach faced a couple of limitations. First of all, participants
could have provided better responses if they were interviewed rather than asked to fill in
questionnaires. Moreover, the researchers could have triggered the participants memory better

Samsung Of Samsung Galaxy Note
Would anyone have think about using a smartphone that does not have a flat screen? In this
September 2014, Samsung introduced a new type of Samsung Galaxy Note Series called
Galaxy Note Edge. It is a smartphone which looks similar to Galaxy Note 4, but has a curved
right edge that has its own behavior and purpose. Almost a year has been past already since the
Galaxy Note 4 came out. Many Galaxy fans were waiting for this. They even got more excited
when Samsung presented their unexpected new Galaxy Note Edge. Now, the Galaxy Note fans are
in trouble because they have to choose between Galaxy Note 4, which is reliable and credible, and
Galaxy Note Edge, which is fresh and new. Many other mobile companies are paying sharp
attention to this new model since the phone looks totally different than previous phones. It might
change the market trend completely.
Now, Samsung can be sure that they are one of the major mobile phone markets in the world; the
company sold most mobile phone in 2012, accounting for 22 percent of the market. Samsung s
mobile market success starts when the company brings out the idea of brand new touch screen
smartphone in 2008. Samsung releases their first Galaxy S Series, S stand for success, in March
2010 which was the company s first actual attempt to take on the iPhone; iPhone was the most
popular and number one selling smartphone in that time. Later, Samsung becomes success at
growing its company as a major mobile company by launching Galaxy S2, S3, and

The Doctrine Of Precedent And How It Operates Within A...
1.Explain the doctrine of precedent and how it operates within a criminal court hierarchy. (3 marks)
The doctrine of precedent is the principle in which judges follow when deciding the results of
cases. This principle ensures that the law is applied consistently across matters, sometimes
applying past reasoning from similar cases. Some courts are bound to follow the doctrine of
precedents if a similar case was tried in a higher court. Generally, the High Court of Australia has
precedence over all courts (Federal, Supreme, District, Local etc.) and is not bound to follow the
decisions made in these lower courts.
2.Briefly describe the following court hearings and explain their main purpose:
a)A jury trial
Jury trials are held in District or Supreme Courts. These trials are used to ensure that people that
are not influenced by the government and power can have their say in the verdict of a defendant.
The jury is a selection of people that are chosen to attend a case and listen to evidence to make
determinations on questions of fact. The judge then takes the jury s decision into account when
deciding the defendant s verdict.
b) A committal hearing
Committal hearings are only held for some indictable offences (such as manslaughter or aggravated
burglary). P. Salmelainen (1992) suggests that committal hearings are used to determine whether
there is enough evidence to warrant the accused being sent to stand trial. These hearings are often
held in local courts until the

The Slavic Women s Farewell By Vasilijagapkin
CONCERT ASSIGNMENT 1
Part 1: Concert Information
1. Ensemble/Performer Name: Wind Symphony
2. Date: 2/7/2018
3. Time: 7:30 pm
4. Location: Popejoy Hall
5. The concert environment was quite new to my experience than movie theaters and other
modern concert (the ones with no seats). The room was as big as the theatre, yet it doesn t stink
like spilled drinks and snacks. I find the concert when it plays the intro very nostalgic as if I was
able to afford the seat in the 1800s. The musical instruments in the concert, of course, were more
realistic than the speakers because I can hear the true work. If I can, I should go to the concert
like this more often and maybe the ones where I can feel classy .

This piece was made in 1912 during the modern era of music by VasilijAgapkin and this was
dedicated to the Slavic women who accompany their husbands in the First Balkan War.The march
was written and premiered inTambov in the end of 1912. The expression layer with the
instrumental has so much Russian pride behind this piece like their anthem. I can imagine the
Russian army women march in this piece during a parade. If women were listening to this in
sensual layer, they would feel strong and determined during exercise. Might be a good motivation
and would make women proud to be women.
In the music layer, many experts will say its genre is march. I have detected one little disjunct out
of the entire piece in the beginning then after, the music one on with conjunct with almost the
same melody. The dynamics from the beginning was forte, then comes mezzo piano, back to
forte, lowers down to mezzo forte, back to forte again, mezzo forte again, and it ended with a
forte. The tempo seems slow according to the Soviet Union from the past between adagio to
adantino. Its form seems to be rondo between some notes of music has been repeated over and

Girl Who Played With Fire
Think about someone you care about very strongly. Now imagine two other people you also care
about. Now imagine that the second and third person you thought of have been shot dead, and you
found their bodies. Then imagine that the first person you thought of was the prime suspect and
most likely the killer of the other two. Mikael Blomkvist deals with this exact situation in The Girl
Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson. In the sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
, also by
Larsson, Blomkvist is on the hunt for a killer and Lisbeth Salander is supposedly the one everyone
thinks is guilty. Her fingerprints are on the murderweapon, and almost everything points to her
being the murderer, but Mikael disagrees. He goes on a hunt to prove her... Show more content on

Salander s mother was constantly abused by her father. One night, while her mother slept, her
father attacked her mother. Salander spontaneously ran into the room with a knife and stabbed
her father in the shoulder multiple times, until he was bleeding so badly he ran out of the house.
However, the second event that takes place during All The Evil was the one that the book was
presumably titled after. Holger Palmgren explains what happened between Salander and her father
to Blomkvist: He rolled down the window, possibly to say something. Lisbeth was ready. She
threw a milk carton she had filled with gasoline into the car. Then she threw in a burning match
(Larsson 628). Salander played with fire, literally. She hated her father for beating her mother. She
hated him for leaving the house and leaving his family. She had had enough. By taking matters into
her own hands, Lisbeth thought she could solve the problem and get her retribution. Little did she
know, however, she had caused an even bigger one. Her father survived, and he wants her dead.
The burning hatred for her father, and the physical burning of her father is the main reason the title
supports the story extremely

Special Education s History
All children have the right to an education, regardless of disability. However, children with
disabilities have not always had that right provided to them. Research and knowledge based
evidence throughout the last century has greatly changed educators opinions and positions on
special education. A key point that will be discussed in this essay is the enactment of the
Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), as well as current and future challenges of special
education.
The initial creation and development of our educational system disregarded the needs of children
with disabilities. Because of very limited educational options, most disabled children were either
educated in their homes or their parents paid for them to attend expensive ... Show more content on

Additionally, schools cannot discriminate against children based on their race, culture or native
language (Heward, 2009, p. 19). This means that tests must be presented to the student in their
native language.
Children with disabilities should be able to learn alongside children without disabilities. Inclusion
in the general classroom for children with disabilities is required under the Least Restrictive
Environment principle (Heward, 2009). The only time a child should be moved out of the general
classroom is when his or her disabilities prevent him or her from receiving an appropriate education
(Heward, 2009).
Just as with all individuals in the United States, children with disabilities and their parents have
rights. Schools are required, under the Due Process Safeguards rule, to support and protect the
rights of children with disabilities and their parents (Heward, 2009). This includes obtaining the
parent s consent before doing any testing with the student, as well as providing student records to
the parents (Heward, 2009).
Lastly, schools must make a collaborative effort to work with students with disabilities and their
parents. Collaborating on all levels is necessary and includes planning, designing, implementing,
and evaluating the special education provided, as well as encouraging the child to succeed. Ensuring

The Impact Of The European Colonization Of North America
The Spanish and the European settlers that came to the North America took on the east coast part
of this region. Wherefore, there were many different Indian tribes that existed in this place whom
spoke different languages, practiced different customs, and used different techniques in raising
their own crops and hunting livestock. It was a mix of people who were better at farming while
others were better at agricultural activities. Some people involved in war while some did not. As
for my example, some of the Indian nations that existed here were the Seneca, the Mohawk, the
Cherokee, and the Seminole. They were able to practice and share amongst themselves a highly
developed system of trade wherein they traded goods over a wide area.... Show more content on

As I understand and analyze the historical events which transpired through time, the native
Americans did not have a good relationship with the Europeans. One can see that the latter were not
very sensitive with the culture of the native Americans while, on the other note, these Europeans
came from a then more modernized country as the native Americans saw them as a group of
people with enough weapons or guns that is useful to them. Also, Indians were able to provide food
for these foreigners.
At first, they traded well with each other in terms that both groups had benefits from one another.
However, towards the end, when there was already an imbalance with the animals that were being
hunted as food and the crops that were raised for agricultural purposes, the English people started
drawing boundaries on territories. Soon after, Indians started competing amongst themselves just to
find a suitable land for hunting and agriculture.
The pattern that I see here is the continuous dependency of Europeans on the land, resources, and
means of shelter from the Native Americans. The pattern also evolves on the notion of Europeans
to turn this new discovery and utilize this connection for trade and commerce of their interests with
another country or countries as well. In the end, both groups were able to trade with each other that
left Virginia having the Charter of the Virginia Company of London. This company, however,

Analysis Of Binary Oppositions In Heathers
Nietzsche wrote that language invents truths that do not have an actual reference to the outside
world. One of the primary examples are binary oppositions: two terms that give each other meaning
when they are compared. The conflicting terms serve to simplify concepts down to their most basic
forms. In literary works, however, the binary oppositions that are presented are often deconstructed.
In Heathers, the main drama of the story comes from the ideas of conformityand nonconformity. As
the story takes place in a high school ruled by an all powerful clique, students who mold
themselves to the Heathers are well liked. Those who do not resemble them whether because they
are unpopular or because they try to actively rebel against the norm are deemed outcasts. Veronica
s internal conflict stems from her being torn between these two worlds. A part of her wants to
follow in the footsteps of the Heathers in order to be just as admired as they are; on the other hand,
she does not enjoy being around them, and finds herself gravitating back towards other
nonconformists. Beyond just Veronica s struggle, deconstructionis also presented in the character
arcs of McNamara, Duke, and J.D. To begin with, Nietzsche believed that all binary oppositions
have a single term that is superior. He wrote that, Metaphysical philosophy has hitherto surmounted
this difficulty that the one originates in the other and assuming for the more valued thing a
miraculous source in the very kernel and

The Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt
Egyptians
Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the mouth of the
river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The Egypt we re familiar with
begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his command, the South conquered the Northern
lands unifying the two nations into what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two
kingdoms were greatly different, they did have one enormous element in common, the Nile River.
Each spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and
replenished the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom vitally depended on
this natural rhythm.
When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the field would
need to be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of work, a previously
monumental mass of records was divided into an accepted group of 33 dynasties over 3 periods.
On the other hand, the Egyptians never saw their Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt
was one, strong, unified land ruled by a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally.
Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an endless flow that
life and even death allowed them to experience. Practically all surviving remnants from the Old
Kingdom period are the grand tombs and burial sites of the royals, often giving us the wrong
impression that death haunted the Egyptians.

The exorcist The exorcist is a supernatural horror drama from 1973. It is based on the novel of
the same name by William Peter Blatty. The novel is inspired by the exorcism of Roland Doe,
which took place in the late 1940s. The exorcism of Roland doe is one of the only exorcisms
documented. It was priests of the Roman Catholic Church that performed the exorcism. Later it
was discovered that he was probably just mentally ill and disturbed but it was still a good
foundation for the novel. The novel changed several details like the sex of the possessed victim
and the age. When the exorcist came out in 1973 it caused panic in movie theatres. All around the

Earthen construction has evolved with mankind and creates housing opportunities world wide.
Building with stabilized compressed earthen bricks (SCEBs) is becoming more popular due to the
low cost, relative abundance of materials, and quality product performance. The majority of
developing countries are today faced with an ever increasing problem of providing sufficient yet
low cost housing in sufficient numbers. In the last few decades, shelter conditions have been

Essay on Comparison of Jackson s Short Story The Lottery...
Almost every person in the world holds a set of traditions which have been established and
practiced for a long period of time. However, some traditions often cause us to not see the
rationality despite of the destructive nature it may have. In Shirley Jackson s short story, The
Lottery , a sacrifice of one s life becomes the jackpot of an annual event held in a small town. This
society s traditions have caused the people to do away with their rational thoughts and the values of
their lives as they have become so stuck in their own cultural beliefs.
In the short story, The Lottery , Jackson s use of symbols reveals a twisting plot that isn t

Here in this village, the lottery only takes about two hours with the 300 residents that currently live
there. In some towns, the lottery takes nearly two days and must be started on the 26th. Jackson
writes it could begin at ten o clock in the morning and still be through in time to allow the villagers
to get home for noon dinner (156). This states that they want to get this completed so they can
return home with their families and have a family lunch. Relaying no emotion to the fact that death
is the outcome of this whole ordeal.
In the film The Lottery the setting is more modern and appears to be in the 1960 s even. You are
able to identify this due to the articles of clothing they possess, the way the towns people do their
hair and make up in some sort. Another clue is the shops out front of the town square, compared
to the short story; it was led to believe as if none of that had come into place at the time. Also the
area seems to be more industrialized than a rural town would be i.e. automobiles. It is never clear
as to what day it may be until the characters give dialogue of the other towns having to start the
lottery a day ahead June 27th. The town s people seem to have much more concern and empathy in
the film rather than the short story because of the emphasis they put on the characters faces and

The Namesake Meaning
In multiple cultures, the meaning or value of a name is not only significant to the individual, but
also in life. Out of the millions of assigned labels, every name has a different reasoning behind it. In
the novel The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri, a young American Indian boy received a name from his
parents, specifically his father. Though in Indian culture, it is a custom that the grandmother name

an important key to what society values, says author David S. Slawson (Sunbury, n.p.).This quote

The term knowledge is power is attributed to Sir Francis Bacon, and has been prominently used
throughout the years since. When the term is used in modern day, it is often thought of as
becoming more knowledgeable about certain topics, allowing one to make more informed

good, or using the power for the greater good. However, when it comes to down to environmental
issues, it is often not the case. The notion of the tragedy of the commonsis also relevant, as people
who obtain knowledge on environmental issues will often attend to their own self interest, rather

people are faced with knowledge in relation to natural resources that may be sold for personal
capital, people are quick to exploit the resource without taking the environment into consideration.
For example, it can be presumed that if people did not have knowledge of the abundance of cod in
Newfoundland in the 1960 s, the environment would have been thriving in that area to this day.
Similarly, a notion that was present in Davis article is the tragedy of the commons. This plays a key
role when looking at the environment today, in a capitalist world. Furthermore, people are often too
caught up in extending their own enterprises to even consider the potential effects that certain acts
can have on the environment. On the other hand, there are people who obtain knowledge on
something that is harming the environment, yet they do not act on that knowledge or do anything
to mitigate the damage. In the modern world and especially western society, people will easily put
their needs above the environment from which we live. Therefore, from a sustainability point of
view, knowledge is not

Tractor Poem Analysis
The poem Tractor is written by Ted Hughes is literally about a tractor. The season is winter and
the man is trying to start the tractor but is unable to do so because of the weather. Eventually, the
man is able to start the tractor. However, while reading it further, this poem seems to be telling us
that with determination, man can overcome many problems no matter how tough the problem is,
using nature as a form of trouble to humans. Moreover, it also tells us that the journey to solving
the problem is difficult. This poem is in nine stanzas, where the first four stanzas describe the
process of starting up the tractor while the last five stanzas, describe how the tractor finally starts
up and rejoices. The poet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, we can see that the poet has created negative impressions of anger and disappointment
through the use of the first person narrative point of view, while the persona is still determined to
start it up.
Next, I would be talking about the use of imagery to create impressions of success. Firstly, the poet
uses the simile like a demon that demonstrates a more than usually complete materialization . This
simile compares the characteristic of materialization to the starting of the tractor, where the phrase
more than usually complete emphasizes that the effort taken to start the tractor was immense and
tremendously difficult such that the ignition of the tractor s engine is more than usually complete ,
displaying the impressions of success. Furthermore, the poet uses the personification levers awake
imprisoned deadweight , where the word awake is used to cause someone to get up from sleep.
This word tells us that the tractor is awaken after a deep sleep, and that shows us that the persona is
successful in awaking the tractor. Additionally, the word imprisoned suggests that that the tractor
was locked away, but is now freed from imprisonment, suggesting triumph and victory in starting
the tractor. Hence, we can see that poet uses imagery to create impressions of success and victory.
Also, I will be discussing the use of contrast in the poem. The

Pros And Cons Of Plant Reproduction System
1.0 Plant Reproduction System
Plant reproduction is the process of reproducing a certain species of plant continuing its existence.
A plant is made up of organs and cells that help it reproduce sexually or asexually. Both
reproduction methods having its advantages and disadvantages. 1.1 Plant Reproductive System
Organs
The reproduction system for plants consists of the anther, stigma and ovule. The image by Hans
Lambers (2016) shows that pollen is created through the stamen (anther (which is held up by a
filament). The pollen is then moved through wind, water or animal to the stigma of the plant part
of the pistil where the pollen germinates (The Parts of a Flower, n.d.). Which is then moved down
the pollen tube (inside the style) where it reaches the ovary and fertilizes the ovule and reproduce.
1.2 Plant Reproductive System Cells
Plant reproduction consists of two cells. The pollen grains contains male gametophytes (the male
sex cell) which is created through the process of meiosis (sex cell multiplying). On the other hand,
the ovule, which is held within the ovary, contains female gametophytes (the female sex cell) which
is also created through the process of meiosis.
2.0 Animal Reproductive System
Animal reproduction, like plant reproduction, is the process of creating a being with similar genes
to the parent animal to continue its race. An animal reproductive system is made up of cells and
organs depending on the sex of the animal, both meeting up to create a

Uncle Tom s Cabin Thesis
Research Paper Rough Draft
Hot off the press, Uncle Tom s Cabin was simultaneously celebrated as an important
accomplishment and slammed as untruthful fiction. This array of responses, combined with a
plethora of repercussions, demonstrates how incredibly influential Uncle Tom s Cabin truly was.
The book fueled anti slavery forces in the North while simultaneously igniting a fire of fury in the
South; abolitionists, pro slavery advocates, and African Americans all emphatically voiced their
opinions about the book and its anti slavery message. Additionally, Uncle Tom s Cabinhas often
been associated with the beginning of the Civil War; it brought to light the fact that the North and
South could not continue peaceably living in persistent disagreement on vitally important topics
such as slavery. Through incredible storytelling abilities, Harriet Beecher Stowe conveyed to her
readers the cruelties of enslavement, the injustices of numerous pro slave laws, and the desperate
need for the abolition of thraldom in our country. Within a month of its publication, an additional

mother losing her child, separation of family, economic hardship, and evil prevailing against the

hearts because every person can relate to these hardships. The slavery specific themes include
characters openly arguing the causes of slavery, the Fugitive Slave Law, and the future of freed
slaves. The book was also extremely graphic about how a number of slaves were cruelly treated

Anorexia In The Media
Anorexia By Cecilie Löw The media pressures young people into eating disorders like anorexia
or bulimia with their view on, how the perfect body is supposed to look. The reason people have
low self esteem and a bad body image is because of the media that portrays the ideal body as slim
and tall, and all other body types as imperfect. Having anorexia When a person have anorexia
they deprive themselves from food to lose weight or look thin. In addition to this, they will

The Most Dominant And Influential Empires
The Umayyads created the first true Muslim dynasty passing down power strictly within family
boundaries from generation to generation. During their reign lasting from 661 to 750 AD, they
built the early Islamic community up into one of the most dominant and influential empires in the
world. During this time, the Umayyads would create the basis of how the Islamic Empire would
be operated moving forward. They would soon become a dynasty in question because of their lack
of descent from Muhammad, their arguable passage of power from father to son, and their injustice
and ill treatment of non Arab Muslims. Their desecrating rulers overall had a negative impact on
Islamand ultimately led to their fall.

Uthman s death to be handed over, but Ali was unable to comply with his demands. This conflict
led to the first Muslim civil war or fitna. Ali defeated Aisha, a supporter of Muawiya who was
also the Prophet Muhammad s widow, and other prominent Muslims at the Battle of the Camel,
but then later lost to Muawiya at the Battle of Siffin in Syria. The civil war ended with no winner,
but shortly after Ali was assassinated by a kharijite in Kufa. Muawiya emerged as the leader after
convincing Al Hasan, Ali s son, to give up his right to the caliphate establishing himself as the first
Umayyad caliph. He was driven to create a strong, effective, and somewhat centralized government.
He moved the capital from Medina to Damascus and gave Christians, in many cases ex Byzantine

were unwelcomed by many. Muawiya was the beginning of a long line of impious rulers who did
not give in to what the people of the province wanted, had his own personal agenda, and really only
gave in to the religion of Islam around the time they assumed a government position.

Health Geography Is A Branch Of Social Science
*Health geography approaches. Health geography is a branch of social science which investigates
the interaction between people and the environment. Health geography views health from an all
inclusive perspective combining society and space, and it intellectualises the role of place,
location, and geography within the realm of health, wellbeing, and disease. To put it simply, health
geography examines why space and place are central for health variation in the population. As a
result, approaches in health geography are varied, often drawing on different ways of
conceptualizing space, place, and health. As Cattrall and Elliott, (2009) state, it would be a mistake
to believe that there is only one correct approach, instead we should remain open minded and
appreciate different philosophical and epistemological approaches and viewpoints in health and
how they contribute to the enhancement of our understanding of a particular health issue. My
answer will be based on Gatrell and Elliott who discuss these approaches extensively.
The Positivist Approach Positivism applies to factual knowledge gained through the senses
including measurement. Oftentimes, positivism research relies on observable, quantifiable,
generalizable data collection later interpreted objectively. In a health context, positivist accounts
seek to uncover causes or aetiological factors; however, the best that can be established is often a
strong association rather than a direct cause. Positivist concerns

Stalinist Subjectivity
The article The Stalinist Subject and Mikhail Bulgakov s The Master and Margarita. by Jessica
Merrill claims that The Master and Margarita is a critique of Soviet mindset from within (Merrill

argues Soviet citizens were pressured to reform their personalities in order to bring them into line
with the values of the collective. (Merrill 293). The article mentions the Moscow and Jerusalem

Compare And Contrast Mako And Marmuk
The Life of a Woman
Sexuality is a complicated and essential part of the human experience. However,
expression of female sexuality has been perceived as a threat to men throughout history by many
societies and thus repressed. This, coupled with the objectification of women, culminates in a
female struggle to be recognized and treated as a human. This conflict is apparent throughout
different time periods, as seen in both Cruel Story of Youth and The Life of Oharu . Cruel
Story of Youth takes place in 1960 and focuses on Kiyoshi and Mako, a couple trying to find

own administration has said, ZTE was threatening national security by doing so. Another irony
President Trump has long claimed that China is raping us through unfair trade practices, stealing

Essay on Violence and the Media
Violence and the Media
Television programming today can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and
shaping behavior (Bee, 1998: 261 262). Unfortunately, much of today s television programming is
violent. For instance, the level of violence during Saturday morning cartoons is higher than the
level of violence during prime time. There are about six to eight violent acts per hour during prime
time, versus twenty to thirty violent acts per hour on Saturday morning cartoons ( Killing Screens,
1994). Also, well before children finish their grade school, they will witness up to 8,000 murders
and 100,000 violent acts on television (Levine, 1995: 143).
Moreover, children spend more time learning about life through media than in ... Show more content

For example, because young children do not understand the line between fantasy and reality,
one may find children crawling down storm drains looking for them [Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles] (Minow LaMay, 1995: 33). This example clearly represents that children do not
understand that their favorite characters are only made up characters and that they do not exist
in reality. However, many children may act upon their favorite movie or film character in such
way, that they will try to imitate them. Young children instinctively imitate actions, or rather
model human behavior by observation without always possessing the intellect or maturity to
determine if such actions are appropriate. For example, in Bandura s modeling studies children
expressed more aggressive behavior toward the blow up doll called Bobo, when they observed
an adult model verbally and physically attack the doll in real life, on film, or in a cartoon
(Westen, 1996: 206). Therefore, due to the televisions programs role model capacity to promote
real world violence, there is a deep concern that watching violent programs on television will
cause children to become more aggressive. As a result of viewing violent programs on television,
children may become more aggressive toward other children, use violence and aggressiveness in
their play, and use violence to solve their

Pathological Fear Of African Americans
According to PhycologyToday.com fear is an emotional response induced by a perceived threat,
which causes a change in brain and organ function, as well as in behavior. Fear can lead us to
become narcissistic, to run away from various issues, or to freeze up and become victim under
circumstance, or it may come in the form of a discovery.
When I was younger my fear came in form of darkness, not knowing what was in the space. Over
the course of time that form of fear of course changed. You will always be afraid of something, it
doesn t necessarily have to be physical. Sometimes fear comes in masses specifically referring to
White America being afraid of the educated, prospering Black American.
Since slavery, the lore of the predacious Black individual has been used to fear Whites and to
justify their brutality and violence done against Black individuals, communities and continents. The
enslavement of Africans resulted in a plethora of uprisings, from the Haitian Rebellion to Nat
Turner s rebellion. Since then, whites have developed a pathological fear that oppressed Blacks
will one day rise up and inflict vengeance upon their oppressors .
In 1826, John B. Russwurm became the first Black college graduate. Today just about 4.6 million
African Americans hold a four year college degree according to The Journal of Black in Higher
Education . This number is ridiculously large considering that at the time of the Harlem

Michael Pollan Food Chain Analysis
All across america, cows are confined to crowded, almost prison like cells, with little to no regard
to their health. They are forced to eat food that includes such ingredients like manure, cement, or
even cow brains. This is one side of farming, but there is another. This farming has cows and other
animals living how they would in nature, across rolling hills and bright green grasses. This is the
essence of Local Sustainable farming. As defined in Michael Pollans award winning commentary
about the foodwe eat, The Omnivore s Dilemma, the Local Sustainable Food Chain, one of four
possible food chains, is characterized by not using pesticides, treating animals humanely, and
sustainably creating healthier organic food. Out of Michael Pollan s food chains, the Local
Sustainable Food Chain is the best for America as it is much less harmful to the environment and
lets animals live in their natural states.
The Local Sustainable Food Chain creates a healthier environment because the farmers work with
the land and animals in more natural ways and help the environment thrive. As shown by Polyface
Farms, a prime example of Local Sustainable farming, regular farming practices had created soil
that was either no longer fertile or had washed away. (Pollan 161) As Joel salatin, the owner of

Introduction. Keeping The Day-To-Day Business Accounting
Introduction
Keeping the day to day business accounting is not just a necessity but rather, and above all, an
obligation. Financial accounting seeks to find answers to recurring questions in a business such as,
how much was sold last month, how many people have used the services, and how much to
produce to meet the needs of the customers. The financial accounting is a method that helps better
organize and manage any business. Accounting is the science that serves to organize all the
numeric records of a particular company. Thus, it serves to record all movements of values and
quantities. Having said that, it is not difficult to understand that financial accounting is, above all, a
tool for managing a business, regardless of its size.

A brief summary of recent global accounting is needed to understand what the international area
standards are and how they work. In 1973 the International Accounting Standard Board (IASB) was

for the preparation and issuance of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The entity
already existed previously, under a different name, but it was until after 1973 that it actually had the
strength to organise a movement of change in the accounting aspects at world level. The
headquarters of the IASB is located in London, and has the experience of more than 140 different
professional accounting entities. According to the website http://www.ifrs.org/About us

predicted that it would not surpass category 1, the elements combined and made Harvey extremely
vicious. It hit the most populated areas on the United States becoming one of the most destructive.
People did not have enough time to properly prepare for the unpredicted devastation ahead.
However, the government and the people responded with strong efforts. Let s start with the federal
department. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security s Federal Emergency Management
Agency (which is referred to as FEMA), with its government accomplices mobilized a work force

Thousands of coast guards were deployed in support of the relief efforts. They evacuated victims

Pros And Cons Of The French And Indian War

standoff. Finally, Mini jumped off the bed, pranced over to him and hopped up on his lap, where
she proceeded to crawl up Loki s chest, forcing him to lean back in the chair, then she curled up
and fell asleep right under his chin, purring. This was not what I had in mind, little

The Monroe Doctrine Dbq
в †In December of 1823 James Monroe presented the Monroe Doctrine to Congress. It announced
that the American continents are henceforth not to be considered subjects for future colonization
by any European power. This was set in place to adress American anxiety about Latin America and
Russian Expansion beyond its settlements. Although this was just a statement and Monroe s words
carried no force European nations stayed out of New Word affairs because they feared the Royal
Navy. Around this time things were developing industrially within the United States. The Industrial
Revolution began in England due to their abundant raw materials and their rich coal but it would
eventually venture into the United States. Transportation, new inventions,... Show more content on

One of the major advantages of the North was their transportation routes. They had many more
roads, canals, and railroads which meant that they were no longer limited to where they lived. In
the North they built factories and the cities were industrialized. They believed that you must work
hard no matter rich or poor. The people of the north had a greater population but they did not
allow slavery and they encouraged the South to do the same. As opposed to the south, the people
of the north wanted a strong national government and they wanted high protective tariffs. If there
were high protective tariffs then there would not be as much demand for cotton in the south
causing there to be a lesser need for slaves. Within the north there were many job opportunities in
the factories for not only men but now women and children. The women had a set schedule of
when they worked in order to make their fathers happy and it was based on faith. Regardless of
how long you worked the men always made the most money, than women, and finally

“Ballad of Birmingham” Explication Essay
Dudley Randall s Ballad of Birmingham is a look into the effects of racism on a personal level.
The poem is set in Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. The tone of the title
alludes to the city of Birmingham as a whole. The poem gives the reader, instead, a personal
look into a tragic incident in the lives of a mother and her daughter. The denotation of the poem
seems to simply tell of the sadness of a mother losing her child. The poem s theme is one of guilt,
irony, and the grief of losing a child. The mother feels responsible for the death of her child. The
dramatic irony of the mother s view of church as being a safe haven for her child is presented to the
reader through the mother s insistence that the young girl... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She wants to march to make [their] country free. She seems to understand the concept of the
different standards people were held to because of their skin color and very nobly wanted to help
change that. The fourth stanza is spoken by the mother and is the last stanza containing dialogue.
The mother puts her foot down and tells her daughter she is not going to march but to sing in the
children s choir at the church instead. The repetition of the first line of the mother s response
shows that she is concerned about her daughter s interest in the Freedom March. On first
inspection, the mother seems overbearing and cautious of her daughter. The daughter s request to
march with her friends could be considered a move toward independence, though she is made out
to be very young. The mother is nowhere near ready to let her child be out from under her wing.
After all, she is but a child.
In order to occupy her child, the mother dresses her daughter up to go sing in the children s
choir at church in the fifth stanza. She brushes her hair, bathes her, and puts on her gloves and
shoes. Randall appeals to the senses in this stanza; he uses a metaphor here to inform the reader a
visual that the family is African American. She has night dark hair and small brown hands. She is
dressed in white and smells of sweet rose petals. The mother takes the girls mind off of the
Freedom March and fixes it on the children s choir. The tone is one of content. The sixth stanza is a

Reflection Of Self Reflection
As I finish my first semester of college in Chico, I now realize how much I have changed over
the past three to four months. Coming here was a huge adjustment, but the town, people, and
classes I have taken are amazing. The classes I took this semester, especially the U Course, had a
very big impact on who I am as a person since I got to college. The class required me to reflect
upon myself, making me realize how much I was changing throughout the course. I can now
interpret how much I have learned about one s selfidentity, sustainability, and the four general
education student learning outcomes. Throughout the U course, I was forced to ask myself
who am i? and to reflect upon it in my writing. I was never certain on how to answer this
question; it s tough and broad. As of now, if asked this question I would identify myself as a
female who is open to anything life has to offer, is funny and social, but is an introvert as well. I
believe, The way you understand the world now has changed from the way you understood the
world as a child, and along with your changing perspective, your physical body, including your
motor coordination and your physical abilities, have altered (Thia Wolf 2012). As a child, I was
very closed minded, it was my way or no way. Now that i m older I see that i m open to more
things due to my experiences throughout life; this is why I believe in the social/relational
approaches to understanding the formation of identity. These theories suggest that we form our
identity from past experiences with others. In my opinion, these theories are the most precise
because one needs to experience with others to help identify themselves. Shared experiences inform
yourself that you are similar or not to the others; this helps to understand one s self identity. The
most change I have seen throughout the semester is in my Eco Identity. These past couple of
months, I have gained a great amount of knowledgeon the topic of sustainability causing my eco
identity to change drastically. Before college, I wasn t well educated or aware on the effects on
the earth we live on when living a unsustainable life. I would never try reducing my use of plastic,
water, or paper. Now I find myself using reusable

Essay on The Significance of Art in Chopin s The Awakening
Edna seeks occupational freedom in art, but lacks sufficient courage to become a true artist. As
Edna awakens to her selfhood and sensuality, she also awakens to art. Originally, Edna dabbled
with sketching in an unprofessional way (Chopin 543). She could only imitate, although poorly
(Dyer 89). She attempts to sketch AdГЁle Ratignolle, but the picture bore no resemblance to its
subject. After her awakening experience in Grand Isle, Edna begins to view her art as an
occupation (Dyer 85). She tells Mademoiselle Reisz that she is becoming an artist (Chopin 584).
Women traditionally viewed art as a hobby, but to Edna, it was much more important than that.

Music was a means of brightening the home and making it attractive (Chopin 553). Madame
Ratignolle uses her talent to serve others. At an evening at Grand Isle, she played the piano in
order that everyone would be able to dance. Edna s artistic pursuits are very different than
Madame Ratignolle s. Edna s art represents her quest for individuality (Boren 181). Her form of
art does not provide pleasure or enrichment to her household. Instead, it takes her away from her
family and her domestic duties (Dyer 87). Edna paints in her atelier (Chopin 579). Mr. Pontellier
chides Edna for spending too much time in her atelier; he says that she would be better
employed contriving for the comfort of her family (Chopin (579). Edna makes good progress in
her painting; she dreams of becoming an artist (Chopin 584). However, her devotion to art is
contrasted to that of novel s true artist. Mademoiselle Reisz understood what it means to be an
artist. She was an artist at the piano (Chopin 554). Mademoiselle Reisz was isolated from
society. She lived alone with practically no friends, except Robert and Edna. Her proprietor
described her as the most disagreeable and unpopular woman (Chopin 580). Mademoiselle Reisz
defied society s convention. She devoted herself entirely to art; as a result, she became ostracized
from society (Koloski 119). She plays music, not for others, but for herself. She told Edna that she

Jean Piaget s Theory Of Education
Psychologists Jean Piaget s and Lev Vygotsky s contributions to our knowledge about cognitive
development and learning, forms the foundations of modern education. Both men s work was
revolutionary for their times, underpinning the transformative shift to a constructivist way of
thinking, which emerged as the most significant influence on education of the 21st Century (James
Bader, 2002). Piaget, was the first psychologist to investigate the world from the perspective of the
child, determining that children and adults had different cognitive processes, while Vygotsky,
formed the influential Social cultural Development Theory. As evident in the example of Mr Gina
and Miss Van, despite criticisms, both men s work and the extensive research... Show more content

Wood et al (1976) found it to be the most effective method of teaching for children when
observing mother child interaction. Furthermore, Palincsar and Brown (1984,1989) in their
adoption and application of Vygotsky s scaffolding, social interaction and use of language in
their reciprocal teaching approach, provide support for the theory. Analysis Both Piaget and
Vygotsky s theories are evident within the modern classroom. Mr Gina within his high school
classroom, has adopted various practices of Mrs Van primary classroom to engage and improve
the learning of his students. These practices are heavily influenced by Piaget and Vygotsky s
theories and their foundations in constructivism, which emphasises the active role of the learner in
development. Piaget s proposed process of cognitive development adaptation , through equilibrium
is evident within the classroom. Adaptation is the process by which we adjusting our ideas and
knowledge to new situations through the modification of pre existing or new schemas (Duchesne
and McMaugh, 2016). Mr Gina uses groups of 1 4 students and encourages them to talk, engage
and share their opinions even if they are unsure, as well as utilising an independent learning

The Significance Of Omens To Direct Santiago s Journey In...
The pungent smell of chestnut trees fills the air as his knees grow tremulous, insecurities filling
his mind of the future. For years he has ambled the trails on this island, but now he began to
crawl, slowing losing hope of being able to reunite with mankind after the devastating shipwreck
that set him off course. A swallowtail butterfly enters his peripheral vision, nonetheless his wife
s favorite insect, and it is no doubt it a sign. He must keep moving. Alike to this harried
individual and his determination to keep moving after being reminded of his family, author
Paulo Coelho illustrates similar traits in characters as well as the same principles throughout
his works of art. In the novel, The Alchemist, Coelho utilizes the significant motif of omens to
direct Santiago s journey and leave a valuable message in the mind of the reader as well as
Santiago s. Omens prove to be a valuable part of Coelho s masterpiece that guide Santiago on his
treacherous journey and define a theme of the novel: one s only task in life is to follow one s
personal legend. For instance, when Santiago, is in Tarifa, Spain after traveling with his sheep
for hours to meet his crush, he befriends the King of Salem in the marketplace, who then
prepares Santiago to follow his personal legend by stating, In order to find the treasure, you will
have to follow the omens. God has prepared a path for everyone to follow. You just have to read
the omens that he left for you (Coelho 29). Santiago

Being A Cheerleader
My most memorable school experience, revolves around the extracurricular of being a
cheerleader. Being able to have the opportunity to thrive in school spirit and to be able to build
lifelong friendships has allowed me to cherish my high school experience. Even though being a
cheerleader consists of many responsibilities and events; my most favored school experience is
being a part of the schools organized pep rallies. Pep rallies are memorable to me because it is a
couple times out of the school year that each student comes together to support and encourage our
own fellow students. By encouraging students of all ages to be apart of this experience is
important to me, because seeing each student happy in sight of their school is inspiring.

  • 2. Summary Of The Rape Of Lucretia In Livy s story the Rape of Lucretia, the writer illustrated prime examples on how gender is represented in Roman society. The assumptions of both men and women roles within the Roman Empire are defined and presented within this legend. The expectations of men, women, and honor are identified to provide examples of the conventions about genderin Roman society. Men in the legend were presented as being heavy drinkers and strong. On the other hand, women were represented as being pure and weak in the eyes of men. The contrasting views of both men and women help illustrate the assumptions about gender in Roman society defined in the story. In the legend, men were shown to be heavy drinkers and vastly stronger compared to their female counterpart.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lucretia was illustrated to be pure, faithful, and display honor to her husband, ...all impressed by Lucretia s chaste honor (LVIII). On the other hand, Livy explained how weak and defenseless women were during ancient Rome. At the same time, the author explained how men, such as Sextus Tarquinius, could easily take advantage of women. Livy also expressed how honor was vital for women to keep and maintain. The moment that Sextus viciously destroyed Lucretia s honor by taking her chastity, illustrated how important honor was in the Roman empire. Lucretia felt like she was in the wrong even though it was not her fault; however, the mindset that the expectation of women should show honor and be faithful was extremely important in Roman society. The overall assumption of women in Roman society to be pure, faithful, and display honor was greatly exemplified in Livy s legend. The expectation for women to live up to their general duties during this time was a huge focus in the Roman empire. Thus, Livy presented the assumptions about women in Roman society to be weak compared to men, and should be faithful and show honor towards her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

McMurphy refuses and tells everyone that he will sneak in prostitutes tonight for the date he scheduled for Billy, and later he plans to make everything look like an escape attempt so that no one will get in trouble and so he can run away from the ward. The plan fails and everyone is caught. Nurse Ratched threatens to tell Billy s mother of what happened and he later ends up killing himself. Nurse Ratched blames McMurphy for the deaths of the patients and out of anger, McMurphy strangles her. This quote shows that Chief is now strong enough to go back home and face the very things that caused him to become broken. He is still damaged, but is now able to face the world head on as he has learned from McMurphy. I chose this quote because it shows the change in Chief, how he went from a scared giant in the beginning of the story to a strong enough individual that is able to walk forward on his own. McMurphy ends up losing his voice in the end, sacrificing himself for the freedom of the other patients and Chief doesn t truly gain his own power until he chooses to end McMurphy s life as an act of mercy and choosing to ... • 4. Childhood Amnesia and the Beginnings of Memory for Four... When we ask people to recall experiences, they rarely report memories dating from much before about three years of age. For the purpose of this assessment I have chosen the Childhood Amnesia and the Beginnings of Memory for Four Early Life Events conducted by JoNell A. Usher and Ulric Neisser, published in 1993 in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General. Therefore, in the following paragraphs I will outline the aim of the study, the methodology and the overall findings. The current research indicates that most of the early memories are of distressing experiences. It is predicted that under certain conditions, children are able to recall painful and potentially harrowing medical experiences, such as shots (Goodman, Rudy, Bottoms, ... In terms of the methodology, the investigators used a specific number of questionnaires per targeted events. To assess the offset of childhood amnesiatwo main, broad, questionnaires were used. Each one with subsequent, more relevant and event targeted, set of questions. Additionally, participants were instructed to analyse the frequency and recency of their thoughts in relation to the target event using 4 point and 5 point scales. Furthermore, participants mothers were told to evaluate what their children reported as childhood memories. In order to try to trigger their memory, researchers asked the participants about external information sources , such as photographs, personal stories, etc. Even though the researchers were allowed to select the participants and classify them into predefined categories however, this approach faced a couple of limitations. First of all, participants could have provided better responses if they were interviewed rather than asked to fill in questionnaires. Moreover, the researchers could have triggered the participants memory better (without using pictures or family stories; needless to say that preliminary results indicated that these ... In this September 2014, Samsung introduced a new type of Samsung Galaxy Note Series called Galaxy Note Edge. Many Galaxy fans were waiting for this. They even got more excited when Samsung presented their unexpected new Galaxy Note Edge. Now, the Galaxy Note fans are in trouble because they have to choose between Galaxy Note 4, which is reliable and credible, and Galaxy Note Edge, which is fresh and new. • 7. The Doctrine Of Precedent And How It Operates Within A... 1.Explain the doctrine of precedent and how it operates within a criminal court hierarchy. (3 marks) The doctrine of precedent is the principle in which judges follow when deciding the results of cases. This principle ensures that the law is applied consistently across matters, sometimes applying past reasoning from similar cases. Some courts are bound to follow the doctrine of precedents if a similar case was tried in a higher court. Generally, the High Court of Australia has precedence over all courts (Federal, Supreme, District, Local etc.) and is not bound to follow the decisions made in these lower courts. 2.Briefly describe the following court hearings and explain their main purpose: a)A jury trial Jury trials are held in District or Supreme Courts. These trials are used to ensure that people that are not influenced by the government and power can have their say in the verdict of a defendant. The jury is a selection of people that are chosen to attend a case and listen to evidence to make determinations on questions of fact. The judge then takes the jury s decision into account when deciding the defendant s verdict. b) A committal hearing Committal hearings are only held for some indictable offences (such as manslaughter or aggravated burglary). P. Salmelainen (1992) suggests that committal hearings are used to determine whether there is enough evidence to warrant the accused being sent to stand trial. These hearings are often held in local courts until the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Slavic Women s Farewell By Vasilijagapkin CONCERT ASSIGNMENT 1 Part 1: Concert Information 1. Ensemble/Performer Name: Wind Symphony 2. Date: 2/7/2018 3. Time: 7:30 pm 4. Location: Popejoy Hall 5. The concert environment was quite new to my experience than movie theaters and other modern concert (the ones with no seats). The room was as big as the theatre, yet it doesn t stink like spilled drinks and snacks. I find the concert when it plays the intro very nostalgic as if I was able to afford the seat in the 1800s. The musical instruments in the concert, of course, were more realistic than the speakers because I can hear the true work. If I can, I should go to the concert like this more often and maybe the ones where I can feel classy . Part 2: Musical Selection #1 6. Title and Composer of piece: The Slavic Women s Farewell, VasilijAgapkin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This piece was made in 1912 during the modern era of music by VasilijAgapkin and this was dedicated to the Slavic women who accompany their husbands in the First Balkan War.The march was written and premiered inTambov in the end of 1912. The expression layer with the instrumental has so much Russian pride behind this piece like their anthem. I can imagine the Russian army women march in this piece during a parade. If women were listening to this in sensual layer, they would feel strong and determined during exercise. Might be a good motivation and would make women proud to be women. In the music layer, many experts will say its genre is march. I have detected one little disjunct out of the entire piece in the beginning then after, the music one on with conjunct with almost the same melody. The dynamics from the beginning was forte, then comes mezzo piano, back to forte, lowers down to mezzo forte, back to forte again, mezzo forte again, and it ended with a forte. • 9. Girl Who Played With Fire Think about someone you care about very strongly. Now imagine two other people you also care about. Now imagine that the second and third person you thought of have been shot dead, and you found their bodies. Then imagine that the first person you thought of was the prime suspect and most likely the killer of the other two. Mikael Blomkvist deals with this exact situation in The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson. In the sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo , also by Larsson, Blomkvist is on the hunt for a killer and Lisbeth Salander is supposedly the one everyone thinks is guilty. Her fingerprints are on the murderweapon, and almost everything points to her being the murderer, but Mikael disagrees. He goes on a hunt to prove her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Salander s mother was constantly abused by her father. One night, while her mother slept, her father attacked her mother. Salander spontaneously ran into the room with a knife and stabbed her father in the shoulder multiple times, until he was bleeding so badly he ran out of the house. However, the second event that takes place during All The Evil was the one that the book was presumably titled after. Holger Palmgren explains what happened between Salander and her father to Blomkvist: He rolled down the window, possibly to say something. Lisbeth was ready. She threw a milk carton she had filled with gasoline into the car. Then she threw in a burning match (Larsson 628). Salander played with fire, literally. She hated her father for beating her mother. She hated him for leaving the house and leaving his family. She had had enough. By taking matters into her own hands, Lisbeth thought she could solve the problem and get her retribution. Little did she know, however, she had caused an even bigger one. Her father survived, and he wants her dead. Research and knowledge based evidence throughout the last century has greatly changed educators opinions and positions on special education. A key point that will be discussed in this essay is the enactment of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), as well as current and future challenges of special education. The initial creation and development of our educational system disregarded the needs of children with disabilities. Because of very limited educational options, most disabled children were either educated in their homes or their parents paid for them to attend expensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, schools cannot discriminate against children based on their race, culture or native language (Heward, 2009, p. 19). This means that tests must be presented to the student in their native language. Children with disabilities should be able to learn alongside children without disabilities. Inclusion in the general classroom for children with disabilities is required under the Least Restrictive Environment principle (Heward, 2009). The only time a child should be moved out of the general classroom is when his or her disabilities prevent him or her from receiving an appropriate education (Heward, 2009). Just as with all individuals in the United States, children with disabilities and their parents have rights. Schools are required, under the Due Process Safeguards rule, to support and protect the rights of children with disabilities and their parents (Heward, 2009). This includes obtaining the parent s consent before doing any testing with the student, as well as providing student records to the parents (Heward, 2009). Lastly, schools must make a collaborative effort to work with students with disabilities and their parents. Collaborating on all levels is necessary and includes planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating the special education provided, as well as encouraging the child to succeed. • 11. The Impact Of The European Colonization Of North America The Spanish and the European settlers that came to the North America took on the east coast part of this region. Wherefore, there were many different Indian tribes that existed in this place whom spoke different languages, practiced different customs, and used different techniques in raising their own crops and hunting livestock. It was a mix of people who were better at farming while others were better at agricultural activities. Some people involved in war while some did not. As for my example, some of the Indian nations that existed here were the Seneca, the Mohawk, the Cherokee, and the Seminole. They were able to practice and share amongst themselves a highly developed system of trade wherein they traded goods over a wide area.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I understand and analyze the historical events which transpired through time, the native Americans did not have a good relationship with the Europeans. One can see that the latter were not very sensitive with the culture of the native Americans while, on the other note, these Europeans came from a then more modernized country as the native Americans saw them as a group of people with enough weapons or guns that is useful to them. Also, Indians were able to provide food for these foreigners. At first, they traded well with each other in terms that both groups had benefits from one another. However, towards the end, when there was already an imbalance with the animals that were being hunted as food and the crops that were raised for agricultural purposes, the English people started drawing boundaries on territories. Soon after, Indians started competing amongst themselves just to find a suitable land for hunting and agriculture. The pattern that I see here is the continuous dependency of Europeans on the land, resources, and means of shelter from the Native Americans. The pattern also evolves on the notion of Europeans to turn this new discovery and utilize this connection for trade and commerce of their interests with another country or countries as well. In the end, both groups were able to trade with each other that left Virginia having the Charter of the Virginia Company of London. This company, however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of Binary Oppositions In Heathers Nietzsche wrote that language invents truths that do not have an actual reference to the outside world. One of the primary examples are binary oppositions: two terms that give each other meaning when they are compared. The conflicting terms serve to simplify concepts down to their most basic forms. In literary works, however, the binary oppositions that are presented are often deconstructed. In Heathers, the main drama of the story comes from the ideas of conformityand nonconformity. As the story takes place in a high school ruled by an all powerful clique, students who mold themselves to the Heathers are well liked. Those who do not resemble them whether because they are unpopular or because they try to actively rebel against the norm are deemed outcasts. Veronica s internal conflict stems from her being torn between these two worlds. A part of her wants to follow in the footsteps of the Heathers in order to be just as admired as they are; on the other hand, she does not enjoy being around them, and finds herself gravitating back towards other nonconformists. Beyond just Veronica s struggle, deconstructionis also presented in the character arcs of McNamara, Duke, and J.D. To begin with, Nietzsche believed that all binary oppositions have a single term that is superior. He wrote that, Metaphysical philosophy has hitherto surmounted this difficulty that the one originates in the other and assuming for the more valued thing a miraculous source in the very kernel and ... • 13. The Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt Egyptians Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the mouth of the river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The Egypt we re familiar with begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his command, the South conquered the Northern lands unifying the two nations into what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two kingdoms were greatly different, they did have one enormous element in common, the Nile River. Each spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and replenished the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom vitally depended on this natural rhythm. When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the field would need to be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of work, a previously monumental mass of records was divided into an accepted group of 33 dynasties over 3 periods. On the other hand, the Egyptians never saw their Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt was one, strong, unified land ruled by a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally. Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an endless flow that life and even death allowed them to experience. Practically all surviving remnants from the Old Kingdom period are the grand tombs and burial sites of the royals, often giving us the wrong impression that death haunted the Egyptians. ... • 14. Catechism In The Exorcist The exorcist The exorcist is a supernatural horror drama from 1973. It is based on the novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty. The novel is inspired by the exorcism of Roland Doe, which took place in the late 1940s. The exorcism of Roland doe is one of the only exorcisms documented. It was priests of the Roman Catholic Church that performed the exorcism. Later it was discovered that he was probably just mentally ill and disturbed but it was still a good foundation for the novel. The novel changed several details like the sex of the possessed victim and the age. When the exorcist came out in 1973 it caused panic in movie theatres. All around the U.S it created a lot of fuss. • 17. Essay on Comparison of Jackson s Short Story The Lottery... Almost every person in the world holds a set of traditions which have been established and practiced for a long period of time. However, some traditions often cause us to not see the rationality despite of the destructive nature it may have. In Shirley Jackson s short story, The Lottery , a sacrifice of one s life becomes the jackpot of an annual event held in a small town. This society s traditions have caused the people to do away with their rational thoughts and the values of their lives as they have become so stuck in their own cultural beliefs. In the short story, The Lottery , Jackson s use of symbols reveals a twisting plot that isn t recognizable until nearly at the end of the story. Her use of third person point of view is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here in this village, the lottery only takes about two hours with the 300 residents that currently live there. In some towns, the lottery takes nearly two days and must be started on the 26th. Jackson writes it could begin at ten o clock in the morning and still be through in time to allow the villagers to get home for noon dinner (156). This states that they want to get this completed so they can return home with their families and have a family lunch. Relaying no emotion to the fact that death is the outcome of this whole ordeal. In the film The Lottery the setting is more modern and appears to be in the 1960 s even. You are able to identify this due to the articles of clothing they possess, the way the towns people do their hair and make up in some sort. Another clue is the shops out front of the town square, compared to the short story; it was led to believe as if none of that had come into place at the time. Also the area seems to be more industrialized than a rural town would be i.e. automobiles. It is never clear as to what day it may be until the characters give dialogue of the other towns having to start the lottery a day ahead June 27th. The town s people seem to have much more concern and empathy in the film rather than the short story because of the emphasis they put on the characters faces and their dialogue. When the term is used in modern day, it is often thought of as becoming more knowledgeable about certain topics, allowing one to make more informed decisions. Furthermore, this leaves the term power with a connotation revolving around doing good, or using the power for the greater good. However, when it comes to down to environmental issues, it is often not the case. Conclusively, when it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when examining environmental sustainability, it does not seem to be the case. When people are faced with knowledge in relation to natural resources that may be sold for personal capital, people are quick to exploit the resource without taking the environment into consideration. For example, it can be presumed that if people did not have knowledge of the abundance of cod in Newfoundland in the 1960 s, the environment would have been thriving in that area to this day. Similarly, a notion that was present in Davis article is the tragedy of the commons. This plays a key role when looking at the environment today, in a capitalist world. Furthermore, people are often too caught up in extending their own enterprises to even consider the potential effects that certain acts can have on the environment. On the other hand, there are people who obtain knowledge on something that is harming the environment, yet they do not act on that knowledge or do anything to mitigate the damage. In the modern world and especially western society, people will easily put their needs above the environment from which we live. Therefore, from a sustainability point of view, knowledge is not ... Hence, we can see that the poet has created negative impressions of anger and disappointment through the use of the first person narrative point of view, while the persona is still determined to start it up. Next, I would be talking about the use of imagery to create impressions of success. Firstly, the poet uses the simile like a demon that demonstrates a more than usually complete materialization . This simile compares the characteristic of materialization to the starting of the tractor, where the phrase more than usually complete emphasizes that the effort taken to start the tractor was immense and tremendously difficult such that the ignition of the tractor s engine is more than usually complete , displaying the impressions of success. Furthermore, the poet uses the personification levers awake imprisoned deadweight , where the word awake is used to cause someone to get up from sleep. This word tells us that the tractor is awaken after a deep sleep, and that shows us that the persona is successful in awaking the tractor. Additionally, the word imprisoned suggests that that the tractor was locked away, but is now freed from imprisonment, suggesting triumph and victory in starting the tractor. Hence, we can see that poet uses imagery to create impressions of success and victory. Also, I will be discussing the use of contrast in the poem. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Health geography is a branch of social science which investigates the interaction between people and the environment. Health geography views health from an all inclusive perspective combining society and space, and it intellectualises the role of place, location, and geography within the realm of health, wellbeing, and disease. To put it simply, health geography examines why space and place are central for health variation in the population. As a result, approaches in health geography are varied, often drawing on different ways of conceptualizing space, place, and health. As Cattrall and Elliott, (2009) state, it would be a mistake to believe that there is only one correct approach, instead we should remain open minded and appreciate different philosophical and epistemological approaches and viewpoints in health and how they contribute to the enhancement of our understanding of a particular health issue. My answer will be based on Gatrell and Elliott who discuss these approaches extensively. The Positivist Approach Positivism applies to factual knowledge gained through the senses including measurement. Oftentimes, positivism research relies on observable, quantifiable, generalizable data collection later interpreted objectively. In a health context, positivist accounts seek to uncover causes or aetiological factors; however, the best that can be established is often a strong association rather than a direct cause. Young children instinctively imitate actions, or rather model human behavior by observation without always possessing the intellect or maturity to determine if such actions are appropriate. For example, in Bandura s modeling studies children expressed more aggressive behavior toward the blow up doll called Bobo, when they observed an adult model verbally and physically attack the doll in real life, on film, or in a cartoon (Westen, 1996: 206). • 39. Pros And Cons Of The French And Indian War These disgusting, filthy colonists think that they are in control. I mean honestly, what do they think they know about running a colony and making people pay taxes after a war. They need to understand that being run by the British is the only way they can survive. On top of that this guy named Benjamin Franklin thinks he can unite the colonies by making a poster. They don t need unity, they need a ruler that can guide them through our economic troubles.Join or Die? What was he thinking anyways? The French and Indian War was an expensive war we need to pay off the debt somehow. Were not being unreasonable anyways,. How much harm could a couple of taxes do anyways? The colonists are making too much of a big deal over nothing. For example the tea act which puts a tax on tea is fair for the colonists and even beneficial. For instance the price of tea has actually gone down instead of going up. And who cares if the East India Company has a monopoly over the industry. People in the colonies could always find a new job. Furthermore the declaratory act may even help the colonies since the great and powerful British parliament has full control of the colonies. Finally the reaction to the quartering act is completely inappropriate. Those soldiers fought their hardest to protect the colonies carry the colonists through battle. The least they can do is give them the respect and dignity that they rightfully deserve. There are around 10,000 soldiers in the colonies and they need a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The woman at the shelter said it may take time, but to be patient and everything would be ok. Excited for her arrival, he set up her feeding, sleeping and litter box area, all before he had picked her up from the shelter. Sitting down with the carrier on his bed, he opened the door. The fur ball stayed inside and wouldn t come out. Loki waited patiently. Well, patiently for Loki. After a few minutes, he reached in and pulled her out. Once free of her cage, she immediately ran up his arm, onto his shoulder and underneath the back of his long, black, hair...and stayed there. Trying to reach for her, the kitten s claws gripped his shirt and would not let go. Sighing, he reached for a book and leaned back against the headboard. After a while, he felt her begin to purr. As opposed to the south, the people of the north wanted a strong national government and they wanted high protective tariffs. If there were high protective tariffs then there would not be as much demand for cotton in the south causing there to be a lesser need for slaves. • 43. “Ballad of Birmingham” Explication Essay Dudley Randall s Ballad of Birmingham is a look into the effects of racism on a personal level. The poem is set in Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. The tone of the title alludes to the city of Birmingham as a whole. The poem gives the reader, instead, a personal look into a tragic incident in the lives of a mother and her daughter. The denotation of the poem seems to simply tell of the sadness of a mother losing her child. The poem s theme is one of guilt, irony, and the grief of losing a child. The mother feels responsible for the death of her child. The dramatic irony of the mother s view of church as being a safe haven for her child is presented to the reader through the mother s insistence that the young girl... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She wants to march to make [their] country free. She seems to understand the concept of the different standards people were held to because of their skin color and very nobly wanted to help change that. The fourth stanza is spoken by the mother and is the last stanza containing dialogue. The mother puts her foot down and tells her daughter she is not going to march but to sing in the children s choir at the church instead. The repetition of the first line of the mother s response shows that she is concerned about her daughter s interest in the Freedom March. On first inspection, the mother seems overbearing and cautious of her daughter. The daughter s request to march with her friends could be considered a move toward independence, though she is made out to be very young. The mother is nowhere near ready to let her child be out from under her wing. After all, she is but a child. In order to occupy her child, the mother dresses her daughter up to go sing in the children s choir at church in the fifth stanza. She brushes her hair, bathes her, and puts on her gloves and shoes. Randall appeals to the senses in this stanza; he uses a metaphor here to inform the reader a visual that the family is African American. She has night dark hair and small brown hands. She is dressed in white and smells of sweet rose petals. The mother takes the girls mind off of the Freedom March and fixes it on the children s choir. The tone is one of content. • 45. Reflection Of Self Reflection As I finish my first semester of college in Chico, I now realize how much I have changed over the past three to four months. Coming here was a huge adjustment, but the town, people, and classes I have taken are amazing. The classes I took this semester, especially the U Course, had a very big impact on who I am as a person since I got to college. The class required me to reflect upon myself, making me realize how much I was changing throughout the course. I can now interpret how much I have learned about one s selfidentity, sustainability, and the four general education student learning outcomes. Throughout the U course, I was forced to ask myself who am i? and to reflect upon it in my writing. I was never certain on how to answer this question; it s tough and broad. As of now, if asked this question I would identify myself as a female who is open to anything life has to offer, is funny and social, but is an introvert as well. I believe, The way you understand the world now has changed from the way you understood the world as a child, and along with your changing perspective, your physical body, including your motor coordination and your physical abilities, have altered (Thia Wolf 2012). As a child, I was very closed minded, it was my way or no way. Now that i m older I see that i m open to more things due to my experiences throughout life; this is why I believe in the social/relational approaches to understanding the formation of identity. These theories suggest that we form our identity from past experiences with others. In my opinion, these theories are the most precise because one needs to experience with others to help identify themselves. Shared experiences inform yourself that you are similar or not to the others; this helps to understand one s self identity. The most change I have seen throughout the semester is in my Eco Identity. These past couple of months, I have gained a great amount of knowledgeon the topic of sustainability causing my eco identity to change drastically. Before college, I wasn t well educated or aware on the effects on the earth we live on when living a unsustainable life. I would never try reducing my use of plastic, water, or paper. As Edna awakens to her selfhood and sensuality, she also awakens to art. Originally, Edna dabbled with sketching in an unprofessional way (Chopin 543). She could only imitate, although poorly (Dyer 89). She attempts to sketch AdГЁle Ratignolle, but the picture bore no resemblance to its subject. After her awakening experience in Grand Isle, Edna begins to view her art as an occupation (Dyer 85). She tells Mademoiselle Reisz that she is becoming an artist (Chopin 584). At an evening at Grand Isle, she played the piano in order that everyone would be able to dance. Edna s artistic pursuits are very different than Madame Ratignolle s. Edna s art represents her quest for individuality (Boren 181). Her form of art does not provide pleasure or enrichment to her household. Instead, it takes her away from her family and her domestic duties (Dyer 87). Edna paints in her atelier (Chopin 579). Mr. Pontellier chides Edna for spending too much time in her atelier; he says that she would be better employed contriving for the comfort of her family (Chopin (579). Edna makes good progress in her painting; she dreams of becoming an artist (Chopin 584). However, her devotion to art is contrasted to that of novel s true artist. Mademoiselle Reisz understood what it means to be an artist. She was an artist at the piano (Chopin 554). Mademoiselle Reisz was isolated from society. She lived alone with practically no friends, except Robert and Edna. Her proprietor described her as the most disagreeable and unpopular woman (Chopin 580). Both men s work was revolutionary for their times, underpinning the transformative shift to a constructivist way of thinking, which emerged as the most significant influence on education of the 21st Century (James Bader, 2002). Piaget, was the first psychologist to investigate the world from the perspective of the child, determining that children and adults had different cognitive processes, while Vygotsky, formed the influential Social cultural Development Theory.
