A recent study from the Deloitte University Leadership Center for Inclusion and law professor Kenji Yoshino reveals widespread instances of "covering," the process by which individuals downplay their differences relative to mainstream perceptions, in ways costly to productivity and sense of self at work. According to Uncovering Talent: A New Model for Inclusion, three out of four say they cover their identity; and, surprisingly, half of straight white male respondents report hiding their authentic selves on the job.

A new tool for corporate impact: In the rapidly changing world of “CSR” and “shared impact” a new and innovative tool has been added by The Sheridan Group. They call it “Impact Advocacy”. Their approach is to help a corporate entity concerned about a social issue design and implement a program using advocacy models to create partnerships, achieve transformative outcomes, increase “good” brand recognition and build new political alliances. This idea requires the corporate partner to intentionally commit to a high social impact solution (such as passing legislation or increasing funding) and to achieve those goals in authentic partnership with the best performing experts in the non for profit space providing solutions across the nation.
This tool is new but TSG has a 25 year track record as the top advocacy organization for non profit public interest causes including creating the ONE Campaign with Bono, Leading the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship movement and initiating the first policy effort on Human Trafficking and Slavery.
Tom is a veteran of the domestic AIDS movement, Gays in the Military and the cancer advocacy community. Our roundtable with Tom will detail this new idea, explore how it serves the C-suite, CSR, GR, PR and HR functions within any corporation and discuss the kinds of issues companies may choose to focus on using “Impact Advocacy” on. Since this new product is just rolling out, Tom is anxious and receptive to have feedback on how to improve the design and features of “impact advocacy” so that it truly fits the unique needs of corporations looking to distinguish themselves in the environment.

Reimagining Minnesota State is a process to understand the impact of the disruptive forces currently facing U.S. higher education and how Minnesota State can best respond to an environment of accelerating change by unleashing the innovation of our campuses and people. Our challenge and our opportunity is to harness these emerging trends and disruptions and leverage them to become the system of post-secondary education Minnesota will need in the future.
We are beyond the half-way point of the Forum on Reimagining Minnesota State, which provides an opportunity organize discussions that will emerge as themes in a broader discussion with key stakeholder groups. The discussions will provide opportunities to challenge and extend the ideas presented in the Forum report and to introduce key new ideas that will shape the Final Report on Reimagining Minnesota State that will be presented to the Board of Trustees of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

What does it need to become a collaborative organization?
Slides of the talk given at CN Wintercongress of Detecon Consulting in February 2015.
After an introduction to the Collaborative Economy and its relation to the term "Sharing Economy", the presentation shows reasons for its rapid growth: Businesses as platforms. What are the elements of a platform? Why does it allow for rapid growth and value creation?
Taking this as a basis, we translated the concept to the organizational level using OuiShare as an example. What does it need to become a truly collaborative organization? What is the culture and tools needed? What tools and organizations inspired OuiShare?

Babele - How to achieve collective intelligenceEmanuele Musa
Disruptive change and innovation, digital businesses, a new business paradigm are some of the most popular terms to describe the current business environment.
Behind these trendy words, there is one key concept - the world and business are changing at incredible speeds - and companies need to change with them.
Change and innovation are not any nicer to have for a company - they’re mandatory.
The business environment changes so rapidly, according to a Deloitte study, over 88% of the Fortune 500 companies from 1970, do not exist anymore. So the main question is - how can businesses change and keep on innovating?
Fostering intrapreneurship is one of the answers. But the big mistake would be to put too much faith on the innovator alone. According to Harvard professor Linda Hill: innovation is not about solo Genius, it is about collective genius.
Thus, it's only when these 2 trends collide that we can develop disruptive and sustainable solutions, that produce unprecedented levels of economic prosperity, environmental quality, and social equity, meeting the needs of present society without compromising resources for future generations.
The Social Intrapreneurs - A Guide by SustainAbility, IDEO, Skoll, AllianzSustainable Brands
Published in partnership with The Skoll Foundation, Allianz and IDEO, the report presents a field guide to the world of social intrapreneurship – its challenges and opportunities – and draws on in-depth research undertaken by SustainAbility in twenty leading global corporations.
Building on SustainAbility’s earlier research into social enterprise, the field guide spotlights a new breed of social entrepreneur within big business – the social intrapreneur. These corporate changemakers work inside big business, often against the prevailing status quo, to innovate and deliver market solutions to some of the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges.

Alex Hannant from Ākina Foundation presents "How To Make A Difference" at #LifehackLabs - a social innovation lab focused on improving youth wellbeing.
The Rockefeller Foundation has long recognized the importance of meaningful engagement of the private sector in addressing many of the world’s most complex problems. While many social sector leaders understand that engaging the private sector matters, far fewer understand how to do so, or the key questions one should consider before starting down this path of cross-sector collaboration. For instance: Why would a network want to include a company? Or conversely, why would a company want to participate in a network focused on social impact? Can social impact efforts deliver business value? What makes network relationships durable? And ultimately, what are the different needs around accountability, leadership, governance and mindset? To answer questions such as these, The Foundation and our partners at Monitor Institute, a part of Deloitte Consulting LLP, have created “PARTICIPATE: The power of involving business in social impact networks”—a handbook for social change leaders aspiring to effectively engage the private sector as authentic participants in the pursuit of social impact.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Editor's Notes
This is my father. Before he retired he has spent most of his life building organizations - and without knowing it – he has inspired me to build a new business model for social innovation. The inspiration does not come from his golf, but from realizing that he is an untapped and pretty cheap resource. The reason being that he would be more than happy to use his business skills and experience for the good of society, had their only been readily available arenas or services for this kind of participation. And his is not unique. I recently talked to quite a few people from my father’s generation, in connection with an innovation project on welfare technology, and it turned out that a lot of them would love to participate more. They wanted to use their skills and experience. They wanted to keep learning.
As our population becomes older the number of unsatisified seniors will increase, unless we see some changes soon. In addition we know that when I am retired there will only be 2.5 persons too support me. While the number today is about 4. So not only are we losing out on valuable and motivated resources, we are also facing large challenges to our existing level of welfare. The awareness of this complex problem became a tipping point for me – made me want to do something, and not only give advice as most consultants do.
So together with some close colleagues we started to look closer at the nature of complex problems - this being a short list… And trying to figure out what to do we have looked at how organizations are dealing with complex problems today.
A great advantage of being a consultant is being able work in areas like Education, Energy, Transportation, and Health in parallel, with organizations from all sectors, even the new fourth sector social entrepreneurs – and I can report that they are all – most of them - doing their best. They are working hard to create solutions that either directly or indirectly address important challenges in society. Strategies are discussed. Projects are started. Project results are delivered on time. Reports are written – a few of them are also read. People are trained. Conferences are held. But I for one (and I know that I am not alone in this crowd) am frustrated at how slowly things are moving. So we have asked ourselves why things are moving slowly?
1. Individual solutions. Not seeing the whole picture. Not caring? Only from their own context. We have in many ways become a world of silos, which is not a good structure for creating the solutions we need. 2. Silos are not real. People are linked. Often on a personal level. We are afraid /reluctant of using them. Eg. Thomas Midteide. 3. Many are satisfied but not fully motivated. They want to be part of something that matter, and many have to go outside of their workplace to find this motivation So if these are the main reasons why things are moving slowly – what do we need to speed things up?
1. Create cross-sector time-framed collaborative innovation projects – Under the motto “Let’s gang up on the problem, and not each other.” Where participant get a holistic view of the problem and create holistic solutions 2. Focus on an important issues and making real impact – giving participants a true sense of purpose, so that they use their closest network. 3. Link profits to passion so that people can get paid and do god from within their company – become fully motivated
So what is our role in this?Take a larger responsibility for creating viable and innovative solutions to social challengesWe will work with non-profits and social entrepreneurs in defining challenges that are in need of innovative solutionsWe will use our extensive network to recruit the right people from the right public and private organizationsWe will create an innovation arena, build trust between partners and facilitate the innovation processWe will use our expertise to help create solutions and viable business models
Why cross-sector collaboration will workPeople are interested – they want thisI believe innovation is a lot about putting the right people in the same roomAnd by the right people I mean diversity – people who see the problem for different angles, people with different background and with different skills and competencies “Slices of Brilliance” a term coined by Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies
And the only measure of sucdeess will be value craetioncreate value = Social impact and value for each participants. Can also every participant make money? Do not have time to go into the business model today, but in brief we are aiming to giveSocial Entreperneurs: New incomeNon-profits: Increased impactPublic org. Better services / lower costPrivate org. (incl. us) Increased profit
Is it optimistic? Yes. Can it be done? Yes. The feedback from people in organizations from all sectors have so far been positive. We are therefore on the brink of launching two projects. So we are now looking for people who are motivated by these challenges and who believe their organization should be a part it. And I am personally looking for people who can create a service that makes my father play less golf.
