Culture matters: a test of rationality on economic growth
There are widespread debates as to whether cultural values have a bearing on economic growth. Scholarly articles have actually had conflicting results with proponents arguing there is whiles opponents have thought otherwise. The aim of this paper is to verify the assertions made by these two schools of thought from the perspective of culture as a rationality component using an input-output growth model. We basically employed an approach that sought to define and aggregate cultural values under rationality indices: instrumental, affective, value and traditional rationality from 29 countries with data from world value survey (1981-2009).
We systematically had them tested in an endogenous growth model alongside traditional economic variables. We conclude that when these cultural variables are combined with the so-called economic variables, there is an improvement in the model explanation than before. In addition, two of these cultural indices indicated a statistically positive effect on economic growth (instrumental and affective rationality). However, traditional
rationality index was also robust but with a negative coefficient. Value rationality showed a somewhat weaker link to economic growth and was statistically insignificant. The policy implications of these findings are also discussed.

In this paper, we addressed issues regarding the importance of social innovation (SI) and
social entrepreneurship (SE) within a society which is in a profound and rapid change and
transformation that marks all the areas of social life. The fundamental objective of the study was to
analyze the concepts of social innovation and social entrepreneurship as providers of both social
value and growth of life quality. We highlighted the inter-conditioning relationship between these
two concepts and showed the need for social innovations to respond to some challenges of the
society, such as aging, budgetary pressure and others. This paper proposes a model of social
entrepreneurship at the intersection of three sectors: state, market and civil society, in its efforts to
meet the more and more sophisticated requests of the contemporary society. Thus, the whole

Social entrepreneurship has emerged in recent years given its importance for societal development and increasing today’s economy. To some extents, institutions have failed to resolve the social problems and needs of the rural areas. In this regard, social entrepreneurship gives a new groundwork for the socio-economic development of the rural people in India. It is high time to adopt it as the alternative solutions to the problems faced by the rural people. Until now there has been less inclusive attempt to specify the extent of social entrepreneurship to the rural populated areas and it demands a new development approach to identify the methods to encourage social innovations both at local and regional levels. Therefore, this paper aims to start filling this gap by exploring the implications of social entrepreneurship and social networks that could better enable sustainable rural development. Culture matters: a test of rationality on economic growth
There are widespread debates as to whether cultural values have a bearing on economic growth. Scholarly articles have actually had conflicting results with proponents arguing there is whiles opponents have thought otherwise. The aim of this paper is to verify the assertions made by these two schools of thought from the perspective of culture as a rationality component using an input-output growth model. We basically employed an approach that sought to define and aggregate cultural values under rationality indices: instrumental, affective, value and traditional rationality from 29 countries with data from world value survey (1981-2009).
We systematically had them tested in an endogenous growth model alongside traditional economic variables. We conclude that when these cultural variables are combined with the so-called economic variables, there is an improvement in the model explanation than before. In addition, two of these cultural indices indicated a statistically positive effect on economic growth (instrumental and affective rationality). However, traditional
rationality index was also robust but with a negative coefficient. Value rationality showed a somewhat weaker link to economic growth and was statistically insignificant. The policy implications of these findings are also discussed.

Making real progress on a whole host of important economic policies, from reshaping Wall Street regulations to investing in the jobs and economy of the future, will require a more active role for government than the U.S. has seen in decades. Building and sustaining public will to support this engagement by the public sector is an underlying and foundational challenge.

Mapping of social enterprises in gujarat opportunities and challenges ahead

On September 4, 2014, Bogdan Prokopovych and Davis Plotnieks from Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE), Stockholm School of Economics delivered a presentation of the SEFORIS project in International Summer School on Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainability in Emerging Markets, Tbilisi State University, Georgia.
Presentation explained aims and benefits of SEFORIS project, research trends in social entrepreneurship and an integrated framework of research for social entrepreneurship and its financing modes. Bogdan and Davis presented examples how academic research can help practitioners and researchers understand the complex field of social entrepreneurship and social finance.
International Summer School was dedicated to social entrepreneurship topics where students from 18 different countries from Europe, Asia and North America acquired knowledge on social entrepreneurship, social finance and social innovation. Participants also discussed different business models and case studies of social entrepreneurship from their countries. During International Summer School students worked as business consultants for Georgian social entrepreneurs providing them recommendations for their business model improvement.

Ethical Contributions to Political Campaigns
A question that comes up frequently in political discussions is whether organizations like
corporations have too much influence over the political landscape today. Corporations have
many resources through which to effect political change, including lobbyists, quid pro quo back
door arrangements and campaign contributions. Because these funds can have a large influence
on who wins elections and the legislation that politicians support, it is important for an educated
citizenry to be aware of these contributions, and to consider their ethical implications. I will
argue that from the utilitarian perspective, indirect contributions to political campaigns by
organizations like corporations and unions can be ethical and should be allowed so long as there
are sufficient regulations in place to prevent undue harm that might result from giving large
organizations too much influence over the political process. I will contrast this view with that of
ethical egoism, which would argue that such contributions are ethical inasmuch as they allow
corporations to pursue their own long term interests.
According to the Federal Elections Commission (2004), "The Federal Election Campaign
Act (the Act) places monetary limits on contributions to support candidates for federal office and
prohibits contributions from certain sources." However, corporations are allowed to create
separate bank accounts and then make donations from these accounts to political campaigns as
long as they are not connected directly to the operation of the business. Regarding this type of
donation, the FEC (2004) stated that, "Contributions may…be made from separate segregated
funds (also called political action committees or PACs) established by corporations, labor
organizations, national banks, and incorporated membership organizations.” In other words,
corporations can set up PACs that in turn give large amounts of money to support candidates.
