This study investigated the antibacterial activity of Ocimum suave essential oils against uropathogens isolated from patients. A total of 300 urine samples were collected from six hospitals, of which 67 samples showed significant bacterial growth. Escherichia coli was the most common isolate. The essential oils of O. suave were extracted and screened for antibacterial activity using agar well diffusion and microbroth dilution methods. The oils showed activity against most isolates except Acinetobacter species, with zone of inhibition ranging from 10-22mm and minimum inhibitory concentration ranging from 0.78-22μg/ml. O. suave essential oils exhibited antibacterial properties and have potential for treating urinary tract infections.
