This document summarizes a study that evaluated the antibacterial activity of plant extracts and phytochemicals against antibiotic-susceptible and resistant bacteria. Extracts from 10 plants (clove, lemon balm, basil, guava, pomegranate, rosemary, sage, thyme, jambolan, yarrow) and 4 phytochemicals (benzoic acid, cinnamic acid, eugenol, farnesol) were tested against 14 bacterial strains. The clove and jambolan extracts showed the highest antibacterial activity, inhibiting over 50% of bacteria tested. These extracts were particularly active against antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
