‘’Think and Study Green’’…
WE SIMULATED THE EFFECT OF ACID RAIN
ON PLANTS
Acid rain formation
What we did in the science laboratory

GERANIUM PLANTS

GERANIUM PLANT PETALS
What we did in the science laboratory
How we created acid rain
We prepared three bottles:
1. One containing tap water
2. One containing 475 ml of tap water and 25 ml of vinegar
3. One containing 400 ml of tap water and 100 ml of vinegar
We checked the pH of the three solutions
We placed the seed samples in a dark place and we kept them
moist.
We put the geranium plant samples next to each other, so
they could get the same amount of sunlight.
What we did day by day, from day 0 to day 20
We watered and sprayed our plant samples every two days
using the proper solution, each time.

Day by day, we wrote down in a table our data:
-height
-changes in color
-general aspect

We prepared some slides using geranium petals and we
examined them using the light microscope.

CONCLUSIONS
OUR RESULTS SHOWED THAT ACID RAIN IS DANGEROUS
FOR PLANTS, AND IN PARTICULAR IT AFFECTS:
• SEED GERMINATION
• PLANT GROWTH
• FLOWER AND LEAF COLOUR
• PLANT HEALTH IN GENERAL
WE ALL AGREE THAT WE SHOULD…
STOP DESTROYING FORESTS, STOP CUTTING DOWN TREES
STOP POISONING FISH AND THE WATER PEOPLE DRINK
TRY TO RECYCLE AND CUT ON WAISTING
USE RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY, WALK OR RIDE BIKES
WHAT SHALL WE DO WHEN
THE LAST TREE IS CUT
DOWN?
WHEN THE LAST FISH IS
POISONED?
WHEN THERE WON’T BE ANY
WATER, OR FLOWERS, OR LEAVES?
SHALL WE THEN REALIZE
WE CANNOT EAT MONEY
OR OUR NEW PAIR OF JEANS?

Think & Study Green - The effects of acid rain on plants

  • 3. This is what we did to ‘’Think and Study Green’’… WE SIMULATED THE EFFECT OF ACID RAIN ON PLANTS
  • 5. What we did in the science laboratory We tested the effect of acid rain on BEANS

  • 9. How we created acid rain We prepared three bottles: 1. One containing tap water 2. One containing 475 ml of tap water and 25 ml of vinegar 3. One containing 400 ml of tap water and 100 ml of vinegar We checked the pH of the three solutions
  • 10. We placed the seed samples in a dark place and we kept them moist. We put the geranium plant samples next to each other, so they could get the same amount of sunlight. What we did day by day, from day 0 to day 20
  • 11. We watered and sprayed our plant samples every two days using the proper solution, each time. What we did day by day from day 0 to day 20

  • 30. CONCLUSIONS OUR RESULTS SHOWED THAT ACID RAIN IS DANGEROUS FOR PLANTS, AND IN PARTICULAR IT AFFECTS: • SEED GERMINATION • PLANT GROWTH • FLOWER AND LEAF COLOUR • PLANT HEALTH IN GENERAL
  • 31. WE ALL AGREE THAT WE SHOULD… STOP DESTROYING FORESTS, STOP CUTTING DOWN TREES STOP POISONING FISH AND THE WATER PEOPLE DRINK TRY TO RECYCLE AND CUT ON WAISTING USE RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY, WALK OR RIDE BIKES
  • 32. WHAT SHALL WE DO WHEN THE LAST TREE IS CUT DOWN? WHEN THE LAST FISH IS POISONED? WHEN THERE WON’T BE ANY WATER, OR FLOWERS, OR LEAVES? SHALL WE THEN REALIZE WE CANNOT EAT MONEY OR OUR NEW PAIR OF JEANS?
