THESIS SYNOPSIS

Model fishing village: a fishermen community redevelopment programme in
Chellanam.

Overview:
Fishery is an important sector and is the standpoint of income and employment
generation. The experience n these countries indicate that the growth of the fishing
sector stimulates the development and employment in related industries which
contribute significantly to the total economic growth of the country. Besides providing
direct employment, the Industry is also an income generator as it supports
canneries, processing establishments, gear and equipment manufacturers, boat
yards, refrigeration and ice making plants, and transport services in addition to those
working in governmental and private fisher based institutions. Fisheries play an
important role in augmenting food supply and raising nutritional levels of the
population
Chellanam a place with land strection for about 10km along the shore, with its 90%
population belongs to fishermen community. During monsoons the people of
chellanam struggles with high tides and weak sea walls.

RELEVANCE OF THE STUDY: Live project
 The project is one of the latest government proposals for the reimaging of
fishing villages and its implementation throughout the coastal districts of
Kerala. This project would be the initial step taken towards the goal.
 People of Chellanam had been going through the adverse effects of coastal
disasters and it is high time to provide necessary and adequate solutions for
their miseries.
 Lying in the coastal zone, surrounded by both coastal and backwaters, would
help in seeking through different coastal zone rules and regulations.
EXPECTED ARCHITECTURAL OUTPUT.
Frame work is structured in order to provide a residential blocks, approach road,
toilet blocks, fish markets, community centre, schools,etc

METHEDOLOGY
OBJECTIVES
 To provide safe sanitation to the coastal inhabitants.
 To ensure shelter and other basic amnesties to all inland fishermen
households.
 To provide appropriate social infrastructural facilities.
 To designing building bounding to crz rules.
