Rizal had several private tutors during his early education in Calamba, including Maestro Celestino, Maestro Lucas Padua, and Leon Monroy who taught him Spanish and Latin. After Monroy passed away, Rizal continued his studies in Binan under Maestro Justiniano Aquino. While studying under Aquino, Rizal had to deal with a bully named Pedro, the teacher's son, but eventually became the best student in school. During this time, Rizal was disturbed by the execution of Gomburza and the imprisonment of his mother Doña Teodora on false allegations.
