CREATIVE
CONSTRUCTION THEORY
OR THE NATURAL
APPROACH
Presented by: Allaine Atienza & Pamela Dillomes
INTRODUCTION
 Developed by Stephen Krashen and
Tracy Terell in 1983.
 in the Natural Approach the teacher
speaks only the target language and
class time is committed to providing
input for acquisition
OVERVIEW
 students may use either the language
being taught or their first language
 the goal for the class emphasizes on
being able to use the language to talk
about ideas, perform tasks and solve
problems.
 this approach aims to fulfil the
requirements for learning and
acquisition.
CREATIVE CONSTRUCTION THEORY
OR THE NATURALISTIC APPROACH
 based on the assumption that language
acquisition is innately determined and that
we are born with a certain system of
language
KRASHEN’S
INPUT HYPOTHESIS
1. THE ACQUISITION-LEARNING
HYPOTHESIS
 Language acquisition (an unconscious
process developed through using language
meaningfully) is different from language
learning (consciously learning or
discovering rules about a language)
 Language acquisition is the only way
competence in a second language can
develop.
