Big Joe Turner s Miss Rhythm Speaks Out
Under the guidelines for covers Ruth Brown established in her article, Miss Rhythm Speaks Out
, the cover version of Shake Rattle and Roll from Billy Haley and the Comets would be
considered legitimate. Due to the racial hardships of the time period, you can say that Big Joe
Turner didn t receive the credit or attention he deserved for the originality of his version, and
Billy Haley is indebted to him for that, but Haley s version is just as valid under her guidelines.
Ruth Brown wouldn t view Haley s version as a bare faced duplicate with no artistic merit
whatsoever because it isn t exactly note for note Turner s version (Ruth Brown, p. 12). Haley s
version moves at a much faster tempo and rhythm. It s pace also is much more upbeat... Show more

Cover songs were more a measure of the racial differences in the United States. Back then, many
covers signified racial segregation. Like Ruth Brown says, many African American artists
accepted the fact that white American artists were going to take their original piece and make it
their own. Today, this would be a major issue and verge on the issue of copyright infringement.
However, back then, perhaps it had a positive impact on both the white and black artists white
artists get to have success on the performance they create while African American artists gained
the extra exposure their song needed at the time to get popular. While many of us today may not
agree with this concept, American society and the industry would have only properly functioned
like this. Many times like in the case of Shake Rattle and Roll , the covers aren t close to the
original piece. Therefore, both the originals and the covers were equally different versions of the
same thing, so both artists deserved credit. However, in the case of songs like A Little Bird Told
Me by Paula Watson and the cover by Evelyn Knight, both versions were the same song note for
note. And even though this was considered fair game at the time, it was truly unfair of Knight to
use Watson s exact material, and the cover song should have not been successful or even released.

Theoretical Modeling Of Resource Depletion
The original work in theoretical modeling of resource depletion was by Harold Hotelling (1931).
Hotelling provided a method for analyzing producer behavior when extracting a scarce, non
renewable resource. In this modeling framework, the owners of a resource choose the extraction
rate so as to maximize the present value of the profit. The main conclusion of Hotelling s rule, in
its straightforward form, is that the resource price rise over time at the rate of interest. Indeed, if
the resource price increased faster than the interest rate, producers would choose to delay
extracting and selling the resource till its price had arose, since the resource owners could make
more profit by delaying the sale. If the resource price were declining or going up slower than the
rate of interest, owners would decide to sell more of the resource early and invest their returns at
the going rate of interest.
The efficient point occurs when prices are rising at exactly the rate of interest, making resource
owners indifferent between extracting now or holding reserves for the future. The Hotelling model
depends on several assumptions. The price path can be adjusted with more extensions of the
original model. One common assumption is to allow the extraction cost to be different based on the
cumulative extraction of the resource or the quantity of the resource remained in the ground, to
reflect the fact that as the resource becomes more depleted, the resources that remain get more
costly to

wide array of service... Susan Munro, a final year business student, had worked late the night
before on a big paper and overslept the following morning in the apartment she shared with three
other students. Her roommates, who had early classes, had already left when she got up. After

She liked the store, which had a bright, trendy dГ©cor and well groomed, friendly staff.
Unfortunately the cutter was 20 minutes, which she used to review a chapter for tomorrow s
human resources course. Some of the other waiting customers were reading magazines provided
by the store. Eventually it was time for a shampoo, after which the stylist proposed a slightly
different cut. Susan agreed, although she drew the line at the suggestion to lighten her hair color.
She sat very still. Watching the process in the mirror and turning her head when requested. She was
pleased with the result and complimented the cutter on her work. Including the shampoo, the
process lasted about 40 minutes. She tipped the cutter and paid at the reception desk. The rain had
stopped and the sun was shining as Susan left the store, so she walked home, stopping to pick up
clothes from the cleaners. This store was rather gloomy, smelled of cleaning solvents, and badly
needed repainting. She was annoyed to find that although her silk blouse was ready as promised,
the suit she would need for her interview was not. The assistant, who dirty fingernails, mumbled an
apology in an insincere tone without making eye contact. Although the store was convenient and
the quality of work quite good, Susan considered the employees unfriendly and not very helpful.
Back at her apartment building, she opened the mailbox in the lobby and

Managing Virtual Teams
Managing Virtual Teams
1. Introduction
Virtual teams have emerged to mitigate the challenges of managing teams that are distributed
across different regions, and are a sustainable component of global business. A project manager
managing a virtual team would have to integrate communication strategies, project management
techniques including human and social processes in order to support the team, (Kimball, 1997).
The author is a project manager assigned to lead a virtual team of 300 volunteers located across
the globe to develop recommendations for regulating carbon emissions in the world. As indicated
Kimball (1997), this kind of a virtual team usually supports people working in the same
professional field and most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would minimize the crossing of time zones and the process can increase team effectiveness.
The author, as a project manager can establish a common time to interact face to face through video
conferencing.
b) Different cultural and language issues
Working with 300 individuals from across the globe requires a project manager to be aware of
different cultural and language issues. These individuals would have different ways of working,
thinking and also reporting differently. Integrating the work that has been submitted would be a
challenge as there will be no time to develop a common language. In order to solve this issue the
team needs to develop an open culture so that everyone can openly share information and not
tolerate a blame game.
c) Learning the new technology
It will be a problem if team members do not understand the virtual working process, which can
hinder communication therefore affecting team relationships. Team members must be oriented to
the virtual working process before the project commence so that they have enough time to ask. The
author should develop a support mechanism for the team to use when experiencing difficulties.
4. Motivating individuals to archive the project goal
These volunteers can be motivated by highlighting to them that, this is an opportunity for them to
sharpen their skills and knowledge through experience of this

Gender In The Workplace Essay
Gender in the Workplace: A Tradition of Discrimination Throughout history women have endured
terrible injustices due to societies views and male domination. One of the most restrictive issues
has been the perception of women in professional roles. In Andersen s Thinking About Women
the traditional view of women s work involved them staying home where they were seen as
having a moral calling to serve their families (Andersen, 2011, p. 118). These views, unpopular as
they may be, still exist today. Incredible women such as Margaret Floy Washburn and S. Josephine
Baker provide valuable insights into what it was like to attempt to break from the norm and pursue
professional careers in male dominated fields of the time. A modern perspective form Anne Marie
Slaughter also helps demonstrate how this tradition of discriminationagainst women in the
workplace has greatly changed during recent times. In the past, women fortunate enough to
receive an education have found it difficult to thrive in a male directed society. Such was the
case of Margaret Floy Washburn and S. Josephine Baker. Washburn faced discrimination in her
pursuit of upper level education. Only allowed to be a hearer (Washburn, 1992, p. 134), she was
allowed to attend classes at Columbia University; however she was not allowed to obtain a
degree. (Washburn, 1992, p. 134). Despite this opposition, she would go on to receive a doctor s
degree and become the chair of Psychology, Philosophy, and Ethics at Wells

People can easily be influenced by one another. Many people can affect the thoughts and actions of
others either deliberately or unintentionally. In the novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar
Wilde it is evident that various characters influence one another s actions and thoughts. The novel
demonstrates various occasions of impact by others. Such as Dorian s influence on Basil
Hallward, as well as Lord Henry Wotton s multiply influence on Dorian Gray, and additionally
Dorian Gray s influence towards Sibyl Vane. Relationships can have the dominance to not only
have a control on one another but also to derive a lesson or bring out personality traits of the

will lose all that maters, youth. Dorian is easily impressionable by Lord Henry because he
believes that their conversation fabricated a change in him in ways that Basil and his friendship

were already inside him. Additionally, not only does Lord Henry influence both Dorian but he
also influences the Duchess of Harley in chapter three. For instance, the Duchess of Harley
remarks that she would like to go to her youth. In reply, Lord Henry replied that all she needs to
do is commit the mistakes of her youth again. Also, in chapter three Lord Henry influences, yet
again Dorian Gray. Although Basil has warned Lord Henry to not influence Dorian, and lead him
to his own destruction, Lord Henry makes it s a goal to have a great influence over Dorian. Lord
Henry s influence on Basil is demonstrated when Lord Henry was leaving and Dorian asks to come
with him, although he had already had plans with Basil. Moreover, throughout the novel, it
demonstrates great influence that Lord Henry has on Dorian Gray. Dorian Gray feels obligated to
Lord Henry. Lord Henry influenced him to go search for pleasures and new sensations, which
brought him to Sibyl. Therefore, Dorian feels that he must tell Lord Henry nothing but the truth.

Negative Effects Of Sweatshops
Would you ever purposely go to a place where you would feel unsafe and uncomfortable?
Imagine having no other option but having to go to that place everyday because there was no
other alternative? Well that is the case for people in developing countries that work in factories,
better known as sweatshops making products for big name brands. They have to go to a work
environment where they do not feel safe nor comfortable everyday while the factory owners
willing know this and don t do anything about it. The workers for these companies go to earn a
wage that they are not able to live off of. Most of the facilities in which these workers make
products are buildings that are unsafe. Buildings without proper ventilation, and most of the
products that are constructed at these facility have to be dyed with hazardous chemicals that
give off dangerous fumes. In the film The True Cost one of the scenes of the inside of one of the
factories there is a mom working while her baby was laying on the ground below her. This image
is speaks loud. It screams unsafe, and unfair. Moms who are workers for these factories shouldn t
have to be placed through this while their managers know this is happening they do nothing about
it. In 2013 a factory building that was located in the Savar Upazilain the Dhaka Districtin
Bangladesh collapsed killing more than one thousand workers. This is a perfect example of how
managers in these facilities pay little attention to the severity of the working

A Day at the Norton Simon Museum Essay examples
A Day at the Norton Simon Museum
It was the day of April 13, 2000. I woke up at exactly 12 o clock because my boyfriend was to
pick me up at 1 like we planned the night before. The day looked quite nice, but I was in a fowl
mood. I got into a car accident the night before and had a huge argument with my parents about the
car. I finally dragged myself into the shower and got ready in half an hour. Then I went downstairs,
sat on my couch, and repeatedly told myself the day would hopefully turn out better than last night.
At around 1:15, my boyfriend came to pick me up. We took the 5 freeway to the 57 since it was the
only way I knew how to get there. As we approached the 134 freeway, my girlfriend veered to the

His facial expressions seem to look like something is bothering him. He wears a gray hat and has
grown a long white beard on his unshaven face. The bags under his eyes seem to compliment the
walking stick and both show the aging process of man. His clothes look to be unwashed and is
probably the only clothes he owns. His clothes consist of a long white v neck long sleeved shirt and
a pair of torn blue jeans to cover his legs. He also has a sack that is hung over his right shoulder.
This sack is the same color or appears to be the same color of his hat. The walking stick he
carries clenched in his left hand stands from feet to chest. The knees of the old man are slightly
bent and his head is hung over to the side. His shoes look to be worn down and are gray. Next to
his shoes is a pile of trash. In the garbage, there is broken glass, wrappers, a piece of fruit that was
bitten into, leaves, and branches. It looks to be that he is on dirt but the background fades to gray.
Manet did not use vertical lines in this painting; instead, he used bending line. The bending line
indicates hard working, tired, and weariness. The man s walking stick appears to be very vertical
but is actually at a slight diagonal. His life does not at all look like a proud one but more of a
laboring, hard and tired life. The bending line gives away the feeling and emotion of the piece.
Chiaroscuro was used in this piece.

What Was The Cause And Impact Of The Octhevik Revolution
The October Revolution more precisely known as the Great October Socialist Revolution.
Generally designated, as the October Uprising, Bolshevik Revolution or The Red October was a
seizure of state power instrumental in the larger Russian Revolution of 1917. It occurred with an
armed coup traditionally dated to 25 October 1917. It followed and capitalized on the February
Revolution of the same year, which eradicated the Tsarist injustice and ingrained a provisional
government built predominantly of former nobles and aristocrats. The urban workers began to
organize into councils wherein revolutionaries criticized the provisional government and its actions.
The Bolshevikparty was heavily supported by the soviets. After the Congress of Soviets,... Show

However the reason behind Lenin leniency towards the Soviets was that they should dominate
Russia under the control of the Bolsheviks. Economic problems advanced into a major issue in

Identity In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
To thine own self be true is a respected age old saying, but while it epitomises the value of self
understanding and integrity, society often forces false identities onto individuals. What ensues is a
culture where we constantly act in a way that is not genuine to who we are, to please family,
friends and to follow society s pattern. Revered writer William Shakespeare addresses this theme
over multiple texts, namely Romeo and Juliet, in which two star cross d lovers challenge their
identities with true love, and ultimately forfeit their lives as a result. Shakespeare presents the
notion that despite the pain and suffering that may come with being true to oneself, it is necessary
to achieve authenticity regardless of these consequences. He proves... Show more content on

Thus it is hard for Juliet to challenge her family to be true to herself and be with Romeo, as this
challenge could lead to death. In a similar encounter, Romeo decides that he must reconcile with
Tybalt as being with Juliet is being true to himself, and being with Juliet means becoming kin of
Tybalt. He completely disregards his status as a Montague and his hate for Capulets to prove his
sincerity, by stating, And so, good Capulet which name I tender as dearly as my own be
satisfied. This is another scenario in which Shakespeare shows the pain that comes with
challenging identity, by killing Romeo s dear friend Mercutio in the fight that ensues. The highly
revered modern film Dead Poet s Society (1989) continues Shakespeare s theme through Neil s
journey. Neil attends an elite private school and his parents wish for him to be a doctor, but his
true passion is acting. Upon deciding that [He s] gonna do it! Whether [his] father wants [him] to
or not! (ref) He commits to acting, yet his family don t accept him for his true self, only what they

A Comparison of the Heat and Cold Imagery Used in Woman at Point Zero and Thousand Cranes
In the books Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi, and Thousand Cranes by Yasunari
Kawabata, both authors use various forms of imagery that reoccur throughout the works. These
images are used not to be taken for their literal meanings, but instead to portray a deeper sense or
feeling that may occur several times in the book.
One type of imagery that both Saadawi and Kawabata use in their works is heat and cold imagery. In
the works, Woman at Point Zero and ThousandCranes, Nawal El Saadawi and Yasunari Kawabata
each use heat and cold imagery to portray the same feelings of love and fear and /or the lack

Ota. For instance, The very face of the Shino, glowing warmly cool, made him think of Mrs. Ota
the previous quote provides an example of how Kawabata uses heat imagery to describe
anything that relates to Mrs. Ota or her relationship with Kikuji (Kawabata 137). In addition,
sentences like, The woman in Fumiko s mother came to him again, warm and naked. are used to
portray the intimate connection that existed between Kikuji and Mrs. Ota (104). Heat and cold
imagery is also used to portray intimacy in the following lines from Woman at Point Zero: We
talked very quietly for a long time and when we had said all we had to say, we gave ourselves to
one another in a warm embrace (Saadawi 82). Nawal El Saadawi and Yasunari Kawabata also use
heat and cold imagery in their works in order to display feelings of fear or uneasiness in a character.
Usually it is a feeling of coldness that a character feels when he or she becomes scared or afraid. A
prime example of this cold feeling due to an uneasiness is how Saadawi refers to the first time she
ever hears Firdaus speak as cutting deep down inside, cold as a knife (6). Time and time again,
Saadawi uses cold imagery to portray a look from the eyes, as in the following sentences which
describe the look received by Firdaus from a co worker, His look was that of a top executive to a
minor official. I felt it land on my head, and then drop down to my body like cold water... (74). The

The Stereotype Of A Smart High Achieving Asian American...
The model minority is a member of a minority group either based on ethnicity, race, or religion
whose members are commonly perceived to achieve a higher level of success than the average
population. The success that an individual reaches is typically measured by income, education, low
crime rates and high family stability achieved throughout their lives. The stereotypeof the model
minority is commonly associated with Asian Americans as they are assumed to achieve highly in
academics which will thus propel them up the economic ladder. The stereotype of a smart high

and that they all go to college. The intelligence stereotypes created by society are the reason why
some individuals feel pressured to succeed and feel as if failure is not as option. If its not the
student who feels the pressure, than it is the parent that pushes to child to do well. So called

Comparing College Football Versus Professional Football
Football is the most popular sport in the United States. The two types of football people watch the
most is college football and professional football. Everyone has their own opinion on which they
prefer. I personally think that because of that with the NFL on center stage, we lose sight of the
true spirit of football. Football is about a team s love and dedication for the game, not some player
that s getting payed a million dollars to throw and run the ball because he has a Bugatti payment
to make. An average NFL player gets paid $1.9 million dollars a year, according to Forbes . Ben

The college fans have more spirit toward their teams, because they either went to the college or
they live in the colleges area a while. On the other hand, NFL fans are usually bandwagoners
who only like a team if their winning and if they re not, no one watches them. According to
ESPN, the Indianapolis Colts, who had a 2 14 record in 2011, had one of the lowest game
attendances in the NFL. A year later the Colts went 11 5 and their attendance rose to one of the
highest. This shows how NFL fans only watch teams if their winning. College football fans are
different. They don t care if their team is losing or not, because they support them either way. In

Informative Speech Over LS Engine
My informative speech over LS engines went very well. I think that overall things went well
especially the transitions between my points. I chose to do a speech on LS engines because my
grandpas pickup had an LS 6.0. Something that went well in my speech was eye contact and
volume of my speech. I felt relieved when I finished because I do not like speaking in front of
people, especially for a class. My LS was probably the best engine that I ve ever owned. My
grandpa purchased the Silverado with about 80k miles from a good friend and neighbor, Lyle
Ernst. The pickup is a regular cab long box, and currently has 168,000 miles on it. It has a newer

I also put on GM Tow Mirrors, which look sweet. The intake manifold gaskets that came with the
LS 6.0 Vortec engine are junk, so I replaced them with the help of Richard Brennan, the head
mechanic at Sinclair. Michael Dekker and I went through the process of installing Light Pods in
the fog light holes in my front bumper. Since the Silverado is a work truck package, it doesn t
have fog lights, power windows, power locks, or comfort amenities like that. It s a work truck,
and I put in Sylvania Silverstar Ultra headlight bulbs, but I wanted more light. Michael and I
went to Advance Auto Parts in Sioux Center and I got LED Light pods. We drilled out the
brackets on the pods and flipped the upside down, affixing them to the body mount behind the
fog light holes. Michael looped power from the fuse block under the hood into the cab, and ran a
return back out. I mounted the pods and then wired the right side to the left side. Michael took
power and ran it to the cab, and we tied the pods into a toggle switch which we hid in a cubby
hole in the dash, so it doesn t look like redneck butchery. If you don t have time to do the project

Ionic Compounds And Molecular Compounds
Introduction: Ionic compounds and molecular compounds are very different. These differences
can be used to distinguish one from another by using the main properties for each compound. For
example, if a substance could not conduct electricity and had low melting points, it would be
labeled as a molecular compound since those properties correspond directly with the properties of
a molecular compound. If a substance was able to conduct electricity and had high melting points,
it would be labeled as a ionic compound because those properties correspond directly with the
properties of an ionic compound. The differences in whether a substance has the ability to conduct
electricity or not and whether it has high or low melting temperatures can be... Show more content

Covalent compounds are the opposite. Instead, covalent bonds can melt very fast under heat. Also,
covalent compounds are not good conductors of electricity, whether in solid or liquid form. If you
have a substance, you can verify whether its an ionic compound or a covalent compound by seeing
whether it s a metal nonmetal relationship or nonmetal nonmetal relationship. The objective of the
experiment is to find out which of the known substances were ionic compounds and which were
molecular compounds based on their properties. We predict that the compounds with high melting
points and conduction of electricity would be ionic compounds because those are the specific
properties of an ionic compound. The compounds with low melting points and no conduction of
electricity would be covalent compounds because those are the specific properties of a covalent
compound. The solubility of the six compounds were checked when each compound was mixed in
water and the conductivity of electricity was tested with the electrodes. High and low melting
points were tested by putting different substances above a flame and seeing how long it took to
melt. It was found that three mystery compounds were ionic compounds while the other three
mystery compounds were molecular compounds. Materials and Methods : Before the experiment
was initiated, qualitative observations were taken for all six mystery compounds and recorded.

Walmart Corporation s Labor And Employee Relations
Introduction As stated on the corporate website (2017), Walmart is the largest retailer in the
world, where 2.3 million associates meet the needs of more than 260 million customers every
week. These numbers are huge, and with so many locations around the globe, they have had
allegations been made by employees regarding their dissatisfaction about poor work conditions,
gender discrimination, low wages, poor benefits, and inadequate health care. Walmart has been
criticized for its policies against labor unions and this issue has prompted public outrage,
(Johansson, 2005) which is of great concern for the market. The company has also faced criticism
for being anti union, but it has claimed that it is rather pro associate, whereby employees... Show

Walmart however claims that their managers can handle complaints and grievance and that their
employees do not need to pay a union to advocate for them. Walmart management views labor
unions as negative (Ali, 2015), but if utilized correctly, it can actually have a positive effect on
their business. Strong labor relations can make a business more successful in the long run and
can help both employers and employees. Managers sometimes get the chills when they think of
unions organizing in their businesses and sometimes adopt an adverse approach to any existing
labor group. However, organizations can reap several benefits from the presence of a labor union
if management and the labor unions work together toward the same goals. When employees
contribute into the production process for a service, the quality increases as there is greater
commitment on the part of those making or delivering the end product. Dealing with labor unions
improves employee satisfaction as they can rely on them as their voice to speak to the employers
(Arthur, 2017). What Are The Key Issues Regarding Employee And Labor Relations? Over the
years, Walmart has been at the center of controversies with regards, its low wages; overtime pay
abuses, employee benefits, gender discrimination, negative impact on small business, immense
dealings with China, tax avoidance and much more (Crofoot, 2012). Employees have been

The Importance Of Drug Smuggling In Australia
Nearly one third of the 545 Australians currently imprisoned or facing charges overseas were
convicted or arrested for drug related crimes, according to the latest figures from the Department of
Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Drug smuggling overseas is an enormous problem in our generation.
Our society has seen countless of offenders in the newspapers and on social media, including the
outrageously infamous Bali Nine, Cassie Sainsbury and Schapelle Corby as the drug smugglers
most emphasised in the media in the last 15 years. Serious criminal offences committed like these
cases see drug smugglers sentenced to harsh sentences in overseas countries like Bali and
Columbia. However for large cases like these, special applications can be made for Serious
Overseas Criminal Matters through the government. The only way to be eligible for Serious
Overseas Criminal Matters is by being sentenced to either imprisonment for 20 years or more, or
the death penalty. To be sentenced to convictions like this the person must have committed a
serious offence, involving a large amount of drugs. When amounts like these are used in cases it s
hard to understand how the convicted person is not guilty. It goes without saying innocent until
proven guilty and cases like Schapelle Corby and Cassie Sainsbury continually express their
innocence, however with evidence and flaws in their cases it s hard to see how innocent is the
case. Drug smuggling, whether it be a mule or the ringleader is a seriously

The Complex Issue of Climate Change
The effects of climate change are much more complex then a simple rise in temperature. Habitats
and the species that rely on them are disappearing, in what I view as a snowball effect of
biodiversity loss. A reduction in a species habitat will have dire consequences for them as well as
other species that co exist with them, over time every aspect of that environment is affected. In the
Artic, sea ice is melting at a faster then it has in centuries. According to an article published by
Aarhus University Climate change is by far the worst threat to Arcticbiodiversity. Temperatures are
expected to increase more in the Arctic compared to the global average, resulting in severe
disruptions to Arctic biodiversity some of which are already visible (Aarhus University, 2013).
Among the many species being affected, the polar bearpopulation has already experienced serious
decline because of its reliance on sea ice. Polar bears rely on the sea ice to hunt, breed, and, in
some cases, den. Changes in their population and distribution are starting to become noticeable
within the Arctic ecosystem. There are social, environmental and economic effects associated with
the negative effects climate change has on the polar bearpopulation. Because of these dire
consequences related to climate change, swift action must be taken in order to help protect this
species and its environment. Polar bears have an extensive history in human culture, starting very
early in history and

Positive Tactical Tools
Mrs. Mangraviti used positive tactical tools. Positive tactical tools such as: positive reinforcement
and feedback, compliments and praise. These tools assisted Mrs. Mangraviti to connect better with
students by preventing undesired behaviours, by changing behaviour and motivating students when
desired behaviour was demonstrated.
A positive reinforcement was used in the form of real tasty gumball lolly. All students had a cut
out picture of a gumball machine on their desks. The gumball machine had twenty hallowed small
circles inside which represented little fake gumballs. When a student displayed expected behaviour
or abided by classroom rules, they would receive a small circle coloured sticker to stick inside their

Mangraviti consistently complimented or praised her students when they followed instructions or
achieved set goals. Before we went into class Mrs. Mangraviti instructed her students to take hats
off, put bags on hooks and get their fruit out of their bags (M. Mangraviti, personal communication,
2016). However, occasionally Mrs. Mangraviti would intentionally not give these three instructions
to test her students. If a student that would normally throw their school bag on the floor actually
hung it on a hook, Mrs. Mangraviti praised them. Thank you for hanging your school bag on the
hook without me asking (M. Mangraviti, personal communication, 2016). Mrs. Mangraviti would
also compliment her student s good manners and good work. However, according to (Education
World, 2016), complimenting and praising students should be on their effort and how hard they are
trying, not how good they are at something, which will challenge them to continue learning and it
gives them reasoning of their efforts (para.7). This preventative strategy is linked closest to the
Cognitive Behavioural Theory, as it teaches students to develop self management skills to behave

A Desire Unspoken In Baby Driver By Edgar Wright
A Desire Unspoken Women should be seen, not heard. A phrase not unfamiliar to most, at some
point in her life all girls have heard something along the lines of this. A phrase that dictates that a
woman s worth lies in her appearance and outer beauty and not in her mind. A phrase that praises
the traits of obedience and submission and shames those who speak their minds. Throughout
history women s lives have always been used in the service of others. Being a quite daughter who
listens to her father, being a silent wife who obeys her husband. Never complaining, never wanting
anything for themselves, just selfless, serving, and silent. A girl grows up learning not to strive for
her own happiness, but to make others happy. A womanmust be self sacrificing and put the wants
and needs of her family before her own desires. This idea that a woman must sacrifice her own
happiness for others is apparent in our own society and in our media. Time and time again
women are used as tragic martyrs to further the character development of men. Look at this years
popular film Baby Driver by Edgar Wright. The love interest Deborah is given no complexities or
personality of her own. She only exists in relation to the main character and is there to make
him happy and feel good. Even in current films and media women are still being portrayed as one
dimensional props whose only purpose is to look pretty and be agreeable. That is why watching the

Eulogy Of Man By Ellen Goodman
In modern day society, people fill up their busy lives, trying to balance work, family, and social
life, trying to achieve their idea of a perfect life . However, some cannot manage to do
everything and focus all of their life under one aspect leaving their lives seemingly empty and
unaccomplished when they die. Ellen Goodman writes a eulogy to a man, Phil, to satirize the
workaholic lifestyle. Goodman employees rhetorical strategies to convey her attitude towards
Phil, that such a workaholic archetypes have unfulfilled lives, defined by their work. Goodman
uses descriptive diction to highlight and satirize the lifestyle and choices of the character Phil.

emotional appeal, for she both mocks Phil s life path and creates sorrow with a respectful
mourning facade. Goodman characterizes Phil as Type A, a workaholic who was fifty one
years old and overweight , to appear on the surface as a normal, successful person, but her
attitude is revealed to be critical of the true Phil. Goodman s word choice builds Phil to be a plain
man, which she then uses to convey her message that a workaholic lifestyle takes over one s life

La Tomatina Research Paper
The holiday, La Tomatina, is a tradition that has gone on for generations. Spain is the main country
that celebrates it every year, but tens of thousands travel from all parts of the world to participate
in it. La Tomatina means tomato festival , and is very self explanatory from its definition. On the
last Wednesday of August, people throw over ripe tomatoesat one another the entire day, leaving
people drenched in tomato carnage, but in utter happiness as well. In all, more than 100 metric
tons of tomatoes are used in the festival! It is quite questionable of how such a holiday came to be.

As most would have assumed, tomatoes are eaten during the festival and are prepared in many
ways (simmered, fresh, crushed). Tomato sauce is also served with entrees such as eggs or any
kind of meat. There are even paella cooking contests, and a palo jabГіn , an event in which brave
participants climb a greased wooden pole all the way to the top, where there will be a leg of
ham. The street fight with tomatoes will only begin after these two events. There are some
specific rules to follow when having a gigantic food fight with tomatoes. For one, objects cannot
be thrown that could cause harm to others. This includes the tomatoes, which may only be
thrown if they are soft or crushed. People during the festival wear rugged and/or dirty clothing,
and another rule states people cannot tear or rip clothing to throw tomatoes at someone. Despite
the number of rules that need to be followed, the festival is still very fun. The food fight occurs
between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. At the beginning of the food fight, trucks haul all the tomatoes
into the town, which are paid for at an inexpensive price. The firing of water cannons signals the
beginning of the festival, which is typically every man for himself . After a few hours, the festival
will end and no tomatoes can be thrown. As this point, fire trucks spray down the streets to clean
them. The people, unsurprisingly, quickly go to wash themselves (there

Elections In The United States
Elections in the United States are tremendously expensive. Between the two candidates of the 2012
presidential election spent almost $2.5 billion(208). It is easy to see how with the cost of
transportation, merchandise, hotels, arenas, and television ads everything accumulates at an
extremely fast pace. Due to this candidates must campaign for funds and support prior to the
election.
In the beginning, the methods that campaigns used to raise funds were predominantly unrestricted.
However, that changed in 1971, when the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) began to place
restrictions on certain methods campaigns used to increase their funds(209).
Prior to the FECA, a number of acts were previously put in place in an attempt the limit the
campaigners methods, but they were unsuccessful. The Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971
was amended in 1974 that restricted the amount of money candidates and their families could
contribute to campaigns, limited how much individuals and groups could donate to campaigns, and
created the Federal Election Committee to enforce the standards of the act(209). The act also

overall is effective. The Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 gave power back to citizens and

Pressure Ulcer Prevention
Prevention of Pressure Ulcers
Pressure ulcer is a common geriatric syndrome seeing in patients suffering from acute and
chronic illness. Pressure ulcers can be acquired while in the hospital, long term care facilities or
in the home. Personal definition of Pressure ulcer is an injury to the skin and underlying tissue
due unrelieved pressure and other factors, including by not exclusive to decreased tissue
perfusion, excess moisture, and shear and friction. The NPUAP defines Pressure Ulcer as injury
to the skin and/or underlying tissue usually over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure, or
pressure in combination with shear and/friction (NPUAP as cited in Stonelake, 2015, p. 2).

Prevention interventions include risk assessment, repositioning, frequent skin inspections, pressure
relieving devices, nutrition and hydration, and caregiver education. Risk assessment should be on
admission to the home health services, as as often as needed such as whenever the patient condition
declines. Similar to hospital policies, the Braden Scale can be used in home settings along with
nurse s clinical judgment.
Additionally, patients can be the nurse s allies regarding their own health care. Patients should
be encouraged to turn and roll in bed as often as possible. When the patient is immobile and self
turning and repositioning is not possible, the nurse and caregivers should be repositioning at
least every two hours. However, strategies for pressure ulcer prevention are not always
successful. Pressure ulcers are an important problem in the home care (Paquay, et al., 2008, p.
628). Pressure ulcers can result in hospital readmission and health decline. Frequent skin
inspections are essential to find and treat pressure ulcers at early stages. Pressure relieving devices
such as heel and elbow protector, egg crate mattress or chair cushions, foam overlay and other

How Does Steinbeck Present Cain In The Bible

Cain is born to Adam and Eve. When Cain and Abel present gifts to God, God favors Abel s gift.
Cain grows jealous and kills his brother out of jealousy. Though similar to Cain, John Steinbeck
uses the choices Cal makes to contrast his character to Cain in the Bible and to demonstrate that,
despite being evil, people can choose their course in life. Cal is similar to the Biblical character
Cain in many ways. Both Cal and Cain are born to men named Adam and both have brothers who
are favored. In the Bible, God curses Cain, and makes him a restless wanderer on the earth (New

School Uniform Controversy
There has always been a big controversy on whether schools should require students to wear
uniforms issued by the school. Some believe that students should have the freedom to wear
whatever they would like to express themselves. Others believe that students should wear uniforms
to reduce bullying and provide a look of success. Schools should be required to have students wear

One reason that schools should require students to wear school uniforms is because it would make
schools safer. The schools superintendent, Paula E. Howard, said the district turned to uniforms in
response to an after school fight last year that involved weapons concealed in loose clothing

Largest Failure in U.S. Banking History. WSJ. Wsj.com, 26 Sept. 2008, 25 Nov. 2016.
Sidel, Enrich, and Fitzpatrick discuss what lead to the collapse of Washington Mutualback in 2008.
Leading up to the collapse of Washington Mutual, the downfall of the housing market was
impacting the mortgage portfolios of Washington Mutual. A month before the collapse the bank
tried to auction itself off, with little to no offers. Washington Mutual s customers began pulling
out their deposits, reaching $16.7 billion in just a couple days after Lehman Brothers had filed for
bankruptcy protection on September 15, 2008. Because of the overwhelming amount of deposits
that had been pulled from the bank, Washington Mutual did not have enough cash or liquidity
resources to meet their obligations and in turn proved to be an unsafe bank to do business with.
The FDIC rapidly set a deadline for offers by parties interested in taking over the bank on a
Wednesday instead of the usual Friday that the FDIC has been known to do in the past. Eventually
on that Thursday, J.P. Morgan bought Washington Mutual for $1.9 billion. J.P. Morgan was able to
start business in states that they had not been apart of before including California and Florida,
where Washington Mutual had over 900 branches located.

Evaluate and Solve Common Security Related Problems
Introduction
Guidelines: It s always best to introduce a paper to the reader. It sets the tone and provides an
overview of what will be covered and what the goals are. * What is the intent of the lab? What
issues are addressed? Why is it important? What are the goals?
For this week s lab we are using various scenarios to compare and contrast different antenna types
and solutions to reduce signal spillover in a specific wireless network. Also we are evaluating and ...

4. Could other method(s) be used to prevent the signal from spilling outside the building?
The other option I might look into in this scenario is the possibility of perhaps there are too many
access points and perhaps a combination of removing and relocating access point could end up
giving you the same amount of coverage and or signal strength while being able to remove some
possible unnecessary access points
Scenario 2
5. What are the three primary methods for implementing security on this network, as well as the
advantages and disadvantages each? WEP is an older security protocol for wireless networks that
encrypts transmitted data. WEP uses a security code chosen during configuration called a WEP
key, which uses a sequence of hexadecimal digits. WEP keys can be formed in different lengths
depending on the type of WEP encryption being utilized. However it is generally not
recommended to use WEP especially when we re talking about networks that need more advanced
security. The biggest disadvantage found with WEP is really it s main weakness, a skilled hacker
could actually crack the security key within a matter of minutes using special software. The most
commonly used and recommended network security method is WPA2

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ambextrous
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Ambidextrous and Sinistral in a dexterous world?
Throughout the history, there are a lot of debates about which is right handed or left handed, even
ambidextrous better. This issue has been argued and resulted in many sides by not only scientist
but also psychologist, because it decides to succeed in life. In the following essay, the benefits and
the drawbacks of this problem will be discussed.
Let s begin by looking at some definitions. Sinistral people are left handed dominance, which means
they prefer to write and manipulate with left hand. While ambidextrous people are able to do tasks
equally well with both hands. According to Carey (Right Handed or Left, n. d), the survey found
that approximately 90% of the human population are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, Prof. Crow suggested that ambidextrous people have a risk of slower development of
both verbal and non verbal skills (Raderson, 2001). A study of 8,000 children at 8 and 16 years
was presented how dominant hand associated with behavior, language ability and school
performance. Results showed that the 7 8 years old ambidextrous children acted like right handed
peers, but had difficulty with languages, speaking and do math poorly at school. Secondly, by age
15 16, these children also have twice the risk of ADHD symptom. ADHD stands for Attention
Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder, which means children have difficulty sustaining attention, troubled
relationships, impulsive behavior and also struggle with low self esteem and perform badly at
school (Ambidextrous children may have more problems in school, 2010). Those results may make
the ambidextrous children s parents disappointed and worried. Despite those results, Crow claimed
that ambidextrous children just develop later than others, otherwise, they might have a completely
different way to develop (Randerson,

  • 2. Big Joe Turner s Miss Rhythm Speaks Out Under the guidelines for covers Ruth Brown established in her article, Miss Rhythm Speaks Out , the cover version of Shake Rattle and Roll from Billy Haley and the Comets would be considered legitimate. Due to the racial hardships of the time period, you can say that Big Joe Turner didn t receive the credit or attention he deserved for the originality of his version, and Billy Haley is indebted to him for that, but Haley s version is just as valid under her guidelines. Ruth Brown wouldn t view Haley s version as a bare faced duplicate with no artistic merit whatsoever because it isn t exactly note for note Turner s version (Ruth Brown, p. 12). Haley s version moves at a much faster tempo and rhythm. It s pace also is much more upbeat... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cover songs were more a measure of the racial differences in the United States. Back then, many covers signified racial segregation. Like Ruth Brown says, many African American artists accepted the fact that white American artists were going to take their original piece and make it their own. Today, this would be a major issue and verge on the issue of copyright infringement. However, back then, perhaps it had a positive impact on both the white and black artists white artists get to have success on the performance they create while African American artists gained the extra exposure their song needed at the time to get popular. While many of us today may not agree with this concept, American society and the industry would have only properly functioned like this. Many times like in the case of Shake Rattle and Roll , the covers aren t close to the original piece. Therefore, both the originals and the covers were equally different versions of the same thing, so both artists deserved credit. However, in the case of songs like A Little Bird Told Me by Paula Watson and the cover by Evelyn Knight, both versions were the same song note for note. And even though this was considered fair game at the time, it was truly unfair of Knight to use Watson s exact material, and the cover song should have not been successful or even released. Racial inequality defined this era in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theoretical Modeling Of Resource Depletion The original work in theoretical modeling of resource depletion was by Harold Hotelling (1931). Hotelling provided a method for analyzing producer behavior when extracting a scarce, non renewable resource. In this modeling framework, the owners of a resource choose the extraction rate so as to maximize the present value of the profit. The main conclusion of Hotelling s rule, in its straightforward form, is that the resource price rise over time at the rate of interest. Indeed, if the resource price increased faster than the interest rate, producers would choose to delay extracting and selling the resource till its price had arose, since the resource owners could make more profit by delaying the sale. If the resource price were declining or going up slower than the rate of interest, owners would decide to sell more of the resource early and invest their returns at the going rate of interest. The efficient point occurs when prices are rising at exactly the rate of interest, making resource owners indifferent between extracting now or holding reserves for the future. The Hotelling model depends on several assumptions. The price path can be adjusted with more extensions of the original model. One common assumption is to allow the extraction cost to be different based on the cumulative extraction of the resource or the quantity of the resource remained in the ground, to reflect the fact that as the resource becomes more depleted, the resources that remain get more costly to ... Susan Munro, a final year business student, had worked late the night before on a big paper and overslept the following morning in the apartment she shared with three other students. Her roommates, who had early classes, had already left when she got up. After showering, she dressed hurriedly, then made a quick cup of coffee. She sat very still. Watching the process in the mirror and turning her head when requested. She was pleased with the result and complimented the cutter on her work. The rain had stopped and the sun was shining as Susan left the store, so she walked home, stopping to pick up clothes from the cleaners. • 6. Gender In The Workplace Essay Gender in the Workplace: A Tradition of Discrimination Throughout history women have endured terrible injustices due to societies views and male domination. One of the most restrictive issues has been the perception of women in professional roles. In Andersen s Thinking About Women the traditional view of women s work involved them staying home where they were seen as having a moral calling to serve their families (Andersen, 2011, p. 118). These views, unpopular as they may be, still exist today. Incredible women such as Margaret Floy Washburn and S. Josephine Baker provide valuable insights into what it was like to attempt to break from the norm and pursue professional careers in male dominated fields of the time. A modern perspective form Anne Marie Slaughter also helps demonstrate how this tradition of discriminationagainst women in the workplace has greatly changed during recent times. In the past, women fortunate enough to receive an education have found it difficult to thrive in a male directed society. Such was the case of Margaret Floy Washburn and S. Josephine Baker. Washburn faced discrimination in her pursuit of upper level education. Only allowed to be a hearer (Washburn, 1992, p. 134), she was allowed to attend classes at Columbia University; however she was not allowed to obtain a degree. (Washburn, 1992, p. 134). Identity In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet To thine own self be true is a respected age old saying, but while it epitomises the value of self understanding and integrity, society often forces false identities onto individuals. What ensues is a culture where we constantly act in a way that is not genuine to who we are, to please family, friends and to follow society s pattern. Revered writer William Shakespeare addresses this theme over multiple texts, namely Romeo and Juliet, in which two star cross d lovers challenge their identities with true love, and ultimately forfeit their lives as a result. The solubility of the six compounds were checked when each compound was mixed in water and the conductivity of electricity was tested with the electrodes. Walmart management views labor unions as negative (Ali, 2015), but if utilized correctly, it can actually have a positive effect on their business. Strong labor relations can make a business more successful in the long run and can help both employers and employees. Managers sometimes get the chills when they think of unions organizing in their businesses and sometimes adopt an adverse approach to any existing labor group. However, organizations can reap several benefits from the presence of a labor union if management and the labor unions work together toward the same goals. When employees contribute into the production process for a service, the quality increases as there is greater commitment on the part of those making or delivering the end product. Dealing with labor unions improves employee satisfaction as they can rely on them as their voice to speak to the employers (Arthur, 2017). • 24. The Importance Of Drug Smuggling In Australia Nearly one third of the 545 Australians currently imprisoned or facing charges overseas were convicted or arrested for drug related crimes, according to the latest figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Drug smuggling overseas is an enormous problem in our generation. Our society has seen countless of offenders in the newspapers and on social media, including the outrageously infamous Bali Nine, Cassie Sainsbury and Schapelle Corby as the drug smugglers most emphasised in the media in the last 15 years. Serious criminal offences committed like these cases see drug smugglers sentenced to harsh sentences in overseas countries like Bali and Columbia. However for large cases like these, special applications can be made for Serious Overseas Criminal Matters through the government. The only way to be eligible for Serious Overseas Criminal Matters is by being sentenced to either imprisonment for 20 years or more, or the death penalty. To be sentenced to convictions like this the person must have committed a serious offence, involving a large amount of drugs. When amounts like these are used in cases it s hard to understand how the convicted person is not guilty. It goes without saying innocent until proven guilty and cases like Schapelle Corby and Cassie Sainsbury continually express their innocence, however with evidence and flaws in their cases it s hard to see how innocent is the case. • 26. The Complex Issue of Climate Change The effects of climate change are much more complex then a simple rise in temperature. Habitats and the species that rely on them are disappearing, in what I view as a snowball effect of biodiversity loss. A reduction in a species habitat will have dire consequences for them as well as other species that co exist with them, over time every aspect of that environment is affected. In the Artic, sea ice is melting at a faster then it has in centuries. According to an article published by Aarhus University Climate change is by far the worst threat to Arcticbiodiversity. Temperatures are expected to increase more in the Arctic compared to the global average, resulting in severe disruptions to Arctic biodiversity some of which are already visible (Aarhus University, 2013). Among the many species being affected, the polar bearpopulation has already experienced serious decline because of its reliance on sea ice. Polar bears rely on the sea ice to hunt, breed, and, in some cases, den. Changes in their population and distribution are starting to become noticeable within the Arctic ecosystem. There are social, environmental and economic effects associated with the negative effects climate change has on the polar bearpopulation. Because of these dire consequences related to climate change, swift action must be taken in order to help protect this species and its environment. • 28. A Desire Unspoken In Baby Driver By Edgar Wright A Desire Unspoken Women should be seen, not heard. A phrase not unfamiliar to most, at some point in her life all girls have heard something along the lines of this. A phrase that dictates that a woman s worth lies in her appearance and outer beauty and not in her mind. A phrase that praises the traits of obedience and submission and shames those who speak their minds. Throughout history women s lives have always been used in the service of others. Being a quite daughter who listens to her father, being a silent wife who obeys her husband. Never complaining, never wanting anything for themselves, just selfless, serving, and silent. A girl grows up learning not to strive for her own happiness, but to make others happy. A womanmust be self sacrificing and put the wants and needs of her family before her own desires. This idea that a woman must sacrifice her own happiness for others is apparent in our own society and in our media. Time and time again women are used as tragic martyrs to further the character development of men. Look at this years popular film Baby Driver by Edgar Wright. The love interest Deborah is given no complexities or personality of her own. She only exists in relation to the main character and is there to make him happy and feel good. Even in current films and media women are still being portrayed as one dimensional props whose only purpose is to look pretty and be agreeable.
