Wounded Warrior Project Rated a Leading NonprofitH. Dan Hill
With decades of experience in the aviation industry, H. Dan Hill is the president of Mach One Air Charters Inc. H. Dan Hill supports military veterans who have bravely served their country, and he supports the Wounded Warrior Project.
A national nonpartisan organization, Wounded Warrior Project is committed to helping military personnel who were wounded during their service and their families. It recently celebrated attaining distinction as a highly-rated nonprofit from The NonProfit Times and The Harris Poll.
For the past 33 years, The Harris Poll has surveyed US consumers to identify top-performing organizations, and it surveyed more than 39,000 individuals for a recent Harris Poll, the EquiTrend Brand Study. Based on the results, Wounded Warrior Project was rated the No. 1 Military & Veteran Serving Nonprofit Brand, an honor the organization has received four times since 2014. The Nonprofit Times also conducted a survey, only it focused on the perspectives of employees. The results showed Wounded Warrior Project was one of the highest rated nonprofits to work for in the United States.
Mary loved Jesus deeply and was not afraid to stand by him even during his crucifixion. Jesus showed his love and care for his mother by entrusting her well-being to the apostle John before dying. Jesus' love for believers is compared to a mother hen's love and protection of her chicks, as he wanted to gather and shelter people from harm.
A Look at National Cancer Institute DesignationsSherif El Refai
Sherif Mohamed El-Refai is an oncology pharmacist at the University of Kentucky's Markey Cancer Center, which received a National Cancer Institute designation in 2013. Receiving an NCI designation means a cancer center is part of an elite program and can receive grants, but the center must focus on clinical research, population science, laboratory research, and have a record of scientific leadership. Only 69 centers across 35 states have received the designation, which is associated with higher patient survival rates and access to innovative treatments unavailable elsewhere.
Cancer Rates on the Decline in the United StatesSherif El Refai
According to a report from the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), cancer death rates in the United States fell by about 1.5% per year for both men and women between 2003 and 2012. Cancer incidence rates also dropped for men and remained stable for women. The declining rates of cancer deaths are attributed to better prevention and earlier detection efforts. However, liver cancer showed the highest increase in both death and incidence rates, with hepatitis C identified as a major factor. The report recommends increased testing for hepatitis C, especially for those born between 1945-1965 who are most at risk.

A Brief Look at the Origins of Hip Hop By Sherif Mohamed El-RefaiSherif El Refai
Hip hop originated from West African and African American musical traditions and evolved most significantly in the Bronx, New York during the 1970s. Jamaican immigrants brought dub music to the Bronx, characterized by breaks between percussion beats. DJ Kool Herc is credited with inventing hip hop music at a party where he extended breaks on records to allow for longer dancing and began rapping over the music. Block parties in the Bronx helped popularize this new musical form. Over time, MCs began experimenting with beats and lyrics, developing hip hop into one of the most popular modern music genres in America.

A Guide to AI for Smarter Nonprofits - Dr. Cori Faklaris, UNC CharlotteCori Faklaris
Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.

This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.
2. Introduction
Sherif Mohamed El-Refai is a pharmacist who
completed his graduate studies at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A proud follower
of Islam, Sherif Mohamed El-Refai is a member of
the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
CAIR is a non-profit civil rights advocacy group
that aims to promote a positive image of Islam in
the US. It continues to provide a Muslim voice
amid recurrent anti-Muslim actions across the
country.
3. CAIR
After an April 2016 incident, the CAIR San Diego
chapter initiated legal efforts on behalf of two Muslim
women who were denied admission to a ride at
Belmont Park on account of their wearing of hijabs.
CAIR alleges that Belmont Park's actions were in
direct violation of California's Unruh Civil Rights Act.
This incident is not the first time that CAIR was
involved in a legal action against an amusement park
based on its discriminatory actions. In 2014, CAIR
California chapter, together with UNITED SIKHS, filed
a complaint against Boomers! amusement park for
discriminating against several individuals wearing
religious headdresses.
