The Strength of Emotional Pain in Diary of a Madman by...
It is a known psychological fact that emotional pain is remembered more than physical suffering,
and therefore has more effect on our behavior. This is held true for the song Diary of a Madman by
Ozzy Osbourne and the book Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Similarities are present
throughout both works of art, and the continuous battle of wits and insanity, fought ever so tactfully
between both sides. "Manic depression befriends me." It's a lyric in the song that defines Ender's
journey through his wrecked childhood. Isolation at Battle School drives Ender to his breaking
point, leaving him with a select group of friends, and a family that slowly stops caring for him. His
adolescence so quickly stripped of him, because of mankind's selfish needs to procreate a dying
race. The adults at his school were so blind to Ender's desires and wants of the family that loved and
cherished him. "...he could feel his family around him, as they always had been...it was a mistake to
think of them..." (pg. 43) Ender's sudden presence at Battle School forces him to bury his innermost
feelings for the fear of being called weak by his peers. He learns how to suppress those feelings
even more as his prestigious status as a Commander prodigy requires him to act with a certain
dignity and respect. Depression finally gets to him, and he accepts it as a part of him. Scars of the
things he's done. Another lyric that mirrors Ender's life is, "Enemies fill up the pages." Ender,
whether he knows it or

Why Do Drugs Have On The Music Industry
Impact of the drugs on the music industry Don't do drugs! The old adage most people go by, except
for the huge numbers for rock and roll music artists. Of course, this is no news to anybody, but why
do numerous musicians do an obscene amount of drugs? The obvious answers are always they are
coping with the stress, they think it has a positive impact on performance, or they don't know how
bad drugs are for mental and physical health. What if drugs are just bad for an artist and have no
positive actions. What if artists do drugs because they it positively impacts the music industry? Is
there a connection between success and doing drugs? The huge amount of very successful artists

They can become very famous. They just need to appeal the clean–cut image, or they can go the
straight edge path. Abstinence from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco is the premise on which Straight
Edge is created. They wanted to make a positive social change according to Thomas Barlett (2006).
Ted Nugent was a major face of these ideologies. Ted reached a high level of success. The straight
edge music doesn't necessarily have the same level of popularity as artists on drugs, but that is not to
say they lack creativity. Other clean artists are spread throughout the subgenres of rock and roll.
Gene Simmons of Kiss, and Angus Young of AC/DC claim they weren't hooked on drugs either.
Gene Simmons of Kiss, didn't have that much creative sound, but he might not have been that
creative of a person. They even admitted "we are entertainers, not so much musicians". Not doing
drugs doesn't have to hurt a band's popularity, they just need to develop an identity that is popular
and different. An identity that stands for something that groups of people can get

Ozzy Osbourne Suicide Solution Analysis
Music has a powerful influence in our lives. It is something that surrounds us every day; it has
become so attached to us that we use it as inspiration, to feel relaxed, comfortable and sometimes
we make decisions led by the type of music we are listening in that instant. During the time Ozzy
Osbourne has released many pieces of music containing very contentious messages, which is the
case of "Suicide Solution". In result of this piece of music, there were some tragical deaths, making
"Suicide Solution" to become controversial.
The song was released on September 20, 1980. But its outcomes did not wait too long and four
years later Osbourne was in the eye of the hurricane. On October 26, 1984, a 19–years–old
American named John McCollum shot himself in his bedroom while listening to Osbourne's songs.
His parents pointed out that the song "Suicide Solution" had encouraged him to commit suicide. The
police reported that the solo debut Blizzard of Osbourne was found on McCollum's turntable and
they said that the last song he had listened was "Suicide Solution". He shot himself and he was
found still wearing his headphones. John's parent sued Osbourne in October 1985; they sued him
and his record company. But the case was dismissed in August 1986. When this happened, John's
parents tried to bring even more attention to the case. They said that the song contained themes of
devil worship and death, they used as evidence the quote that says " suicide in the only way out" and

A Headbanger 's Roots
Canchola 1 ReynaLinda Canchola McConkey English 101 28 September 2016 A Headbanger's
Roots To those who have not been exposed to other genres besides mainstream music, I am hoping
to give you some insight on a headbanger's roots. With new metal bands popping up in local cities,
it's important to understand the history behind the genre. Like every other genre, heavy metal can be
traced back to it's roots, to the moment where everything changed and turned into something that
will continue to affect people for years to come. It caused an uproar first in England, and then
spread like wildfire to all four corners of the world. Heavy metal was a musical revolution that
brought together diverse groups of people while influencing new genres, ideas, and lifestyles
worldwide Heavy metal was created in the late 1960's. One of the most influential bands in this
genre was, and continues to be, Black Sabbath. This band paved the way for hundreds of subgenres
after their time. Black Sabbath originated in Birmingham, England where Ozzy Osbourne, Tony
Lommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward formed a band originally named The Polka Tulk Blues Band.
Around this time, their town was going through an economic depression where unemployment was
rising and working–class factories were being shut down. Because of their angst, they filled their
songs with horror–inspired lyrics, political corruption, the dangers of drug

Similarities Between The Osbournes And The Little People
When one would think that the " The all American family " is not always normal, for example The
Osbournes, and The Little People. Ozzy from The Osbournes is not the typical American parent
such as Amy from The Little People. While Ozzy follows the day to day life as a rockstar, Amy
manages two jobs one of which is at " The Little People of America Organization " and the other is
at " Hillsborough Soccer Club ". These two all American families may seem similar but could not be
any more different. There Goes the Neighborhood (ep.1) of the reality TV show The Osbournes is

How Has British Metal Influenced Culture
British Heavy Metal
British heavy metal influenced culture and other bands. Movies have been based on British heavy
metal bands. and American rock bands often claim that they have been heavily influenced by British
heavy metal. Many of today's generation of rock and metal have been influenced by british heavy
metal; such as bands as metallica guns n roses aerosmith and type o negative. There was even a
movie based entirely on a heavy metal soundtrack "heavy metal" and the sequel "heavy metal
2000". in the late 1970s early 1980s bands began to emerge that toned down the blues influences
and gave themselves a "tougher" sound (Kegan). Many bands were involved in the first generation
of the british heavy metal movement such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath and helped influence
an entire generation of musicians and not just a certain genre. Black Sabbath is considered to many
to be the grandfather of heavy(modern) metal. Black Sabbath came from Birmingham,England.

Reggae Research Papers
The style of music I am selecting is Reggae, it is know to be a fusion of European and African folk
dance. Reggae is known for the walking bass line involving a guitar off beats. There is usually a
bass guitar Ostinato in reggae music that gives it its distinct sound. In reggae music there is a
emphasis on the 2nd and 4th beat in the 4/4 time meter, while the guitar strokes are on the 3rd beat
giving it that off beat feel. All together Reggae is a mixture of a wide variety of differences styles, it
has influences from jazz, rock, ska, and African music.
Reggae is worldwide know for its contrast between the drum and bass downbeat, and also the
unique style of a offbeat rhythm. The original origins of reggae was rocksteady, ska, and blues,

Metal is known for its heavy sound of amplified impairment and long guitar solos, all in all known
for having a overall LOUD sound. Metal has 3 important harmonic models, "modal scale, Tritone
and Chromatic. Likewise metal is well known for using pedal points for a long period of time, all of
these gives metal that unique sound. Some other things that makes metal different is that its main
rhythmic figures are two– note or three– note mostly in the 8th or 16th notes. Lastly Metal songs are
known for usually using longer notes such as whole notes or dotted quarter note length chords. In
the past metal had a slower tempo of sixty beats per minute but now the tempo can go up to 350
beats per minute.
Crazy Train was released in 1980 and took the world by storm by its incomparable sound. Crazy

The Negative Impacts Of Rock NRoll
Rock N' Roll made its first debut in the late 1940s, early 1950s. Creating a new genre of music
based on heavy beats and simple melodies. As the years began to evolve so did the opinion of Rock
N' Roll. Rock N' Roll began influencing people's everyday lives from their fashion, attitudes, and
even language. The most influential genre found in Rock N' Roll was heavy metal, due to its strong
beats and violent or fantastic imagery. Motley Crue was neither the first nor the last heavy metal
band in Rock N' Roll. They were, however, the band social critics loved to hate. By placing Motley
Crue within the development of heavy metal, one can discover how Rock N' Roll, even in the
1980s, continued to divide American society. Motley Crue was founded in the early 1980s with
numerous other astonishing heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Scorpion, Def Leppard, and
Metallic. These bands choose to be associated with the genre heavy metal, because they knew the
impact it would leave on their fan base. Yet many people had their doubts about this new style of
music due to its negative outlooks. Heavy metal was believed to split our society by encouraging
rebellious tendencies against authority figures such as parents, adults, schools, and the work force.
Even after all these negative impact heavy metal recieved, it did not stop Motley Crue from
continuing to produce the music they believed to explain their feelings at the time. This also showed
others that their style of music

amplified rock music, commonly performed by groups that wear spectacular or bizarre costumes".

Now let 's look at Van Halen. Unlike Black Sabbath, this band was formed in the USA. They are an
American rock band. This band Went through a few changes over the years. They had great success
for a while with the most period being the late 1970's and Early 1980's. They had several songs
listed on the "Billboard" music charts.
Ozzy Osbourne went through some tough times dealing with drug and Alcohol addiction. However,
after his brief disappearance for over a month. Ozzy made a comeback as a solo artist. Ozzy came
back stronger, and more influential than ever. He has enjoyed much musical success over the years
and is personally one of my all time FAVORITES!

The Effects Of Music On Young Adults
Many youths get easily influenced during adolescence. Music is highly influential can create
negative impacts on youths. However music can, and often does, affect our emotions negatively as
well as positively: depending on how frequently it is listened to, it can create channels in your minds
and patterns of thinking. As a young adult in today 's society I can say from experience that being
influenced by media is something teens go through everyday. Feeling pressured to fit in and
accepted in a group is something every person goes through in their life, and during adolescence
you're willing to do a lot of things that may be out of your comfort zone. Listening to music that you
wouldn't listen to is something I personally see a lot, feeling the need to have that connection to a
person through music, to be able to have conversation and be liked because you're a part of the
"Mainstream" flow of things. Most teenagers spend an average of 4 to 5 hours a day listening to
music or watching music videos. Therefore, music plays a important role in the development of
these youths. I will discuss about music lyrics and music lyrics and music videos, and how these
create an impact on youths over the decades. I will also look at possible ways to deal with rising
issues such as sexualized behavior, suicide, aggression and substance abuse Young 2 As many youth

When Is Music Censored
Music has been notorious for letting out emotions, and using it to express themselves. With that
said, music is one of the most censored types of arts we have in our society. "Music provides a
powerful form of expression that at its most basic level helps to entertain while containing the
power to cause revolutions – both cultural and political. Music's inherent power scares some people
who are afraid of the powerful potential to shape attitudes and beliefs. The banning of music sets a
dangerous precedent for the censorship of other forms of expression – with dangerous consequences
for a free society. Why is music censored? Factors may include clashing moral values, racial
motivations, generational value gaps, and fear." –

Heavy Metal Music In The 1980's
Some sort of better creative title to be added latter
The late 1960's brought forth the creation of one of the most interesting types of music that shaped
some people in different ways. That music was called heavy metal. Heavy metal created several new
bands influenced how some people probably dressed, and even made some artist extremely famous.
Now heavy metal is "a term used since the early 1970's to designate a subgenre of hard rock music"
(Walser 1). Even though heavy metal came about in the late 1960's it was not given the name until
the 1970's. In the scene of how heavy metal came in to fruition, it came about when "British hard

Because Ozzy Osbourne became one the most popular rock musicians of the 1980's, this fame most
likely helped the spread to the heavy metal genre. Before Ozzy went out on his own, he was part of

caught the attention of American record executives and catapulted Osbourne and his bandmates to
world–class status" ("Ozzy Osbourne" 1). Ozzy got his start in heavy metal as part of a band; this
band helped him in his career and on his road to fame. In 1979 "Osbourne struck out on his own. As
a solo performer, Osbourne helped to hasten the development of the heavy metal genre" ("Ozzy
Osbourne" 1). By going out on his own Ozzy helped out the heavy metal music genre develop even

the gothic fringe of heavy metal" ("Ozzy Osbourne" 2). Ozzy used his fame to help expand the field
of heavy metal music to go beyond gothic

Media Is The Cause Of Violence In America's Youth
Since the beginning of time, there has been violence. However, recently society has been putting the
blame on media such as movies, television, literature, video–games and music. This blame placing
became very relevant in 1985 when Parents Music Resource Center was founded as a way to ban,
restrict or censor media that was found to not only be inappropriate, but was also apparently the
cause of violence in America's youth. While some still agree that media is the sole reason behind the
increase in drug usage, suicide and murder, that is not the case. A piece called "Children, Violence

Alcoholism : A Social Issue Aspect
Alcoholism in a social issue aspect
1. Introduction
In todays society there has been a huge controversial issue, on college campuses specifically, about
drinking. Administrators, staff, volunteers, and even students have attempted to reduce the amount
of usage of the consumption of alcohol or stop it once and for all. Some students' use drinking in
way to cease stress, to promote the feeling in power, or to branch out and socialize, but the outcome
of it is not something to be hyped up about. In the song "Swimming Pools (Drank)" Good Kid,
m.A.A.d city (2012) by Kendrick Lamar, he focuses on the social pressure that is put upon our
generation in regards to excessive alcohol consumption; on the other hand, "Demon Alcohol" No
Rest for the Wicked (1998) by Ozzy Osbourne sings about how alcohol is an addiction and how
hard it is to overcome it. Traditions have been altering as generations pass in which they are making
drinking into a norm in the college student environment which has become a social issue.
2. Discussion of social issue Drinking phases begin with who the person is associated with,
moreover, in a college students case it would be the "cool college parties" that everyone wants to
attend. Freshmen assume they will become more sociable and have these expectations of what
alcohol will do for them while going through the college experience. As much as students think it is
fun to do, some are not aware that alcohol poisoning, problem drinking, and alcoholism is

What I Have A Person Off The Bayou
You can take a person off the bayou, but you cannot take the bayou out of the person. Not everyone
is proud of where they come from, but I am. I have been stereotyped many times in my life, but one
has to remember that people will think whatever they want and at the end of the day, you should be
proud of your culture. Louisianan has always been known for being a melting pot of rich diverse
culture, but there are still people who think that we travel by pirogue. Growing up I experienced this
kind of stereotype from people I met who lived a mere 45 minutes from my own hometown. I have
always kept a positive attitude about it because I am proud of where I come from.
I have also experienced stereotyping just for being a woman. It is under the assumptions that
because I am a woman I am suppose to be weak. I do not believe this to be true at all, but certain
people do believe that it is true. I think a woman is as strong as she thinks she is and can do
anything she sets her mind to. I am a marathon runner and I always I run like a girl, but when I say
that I meant it that running like a girl means running to fierce, running to be strong, running to be a
better version of myself than I was yesterday, running to learn to love my body, but more
importantly running for all those who cannot. I do not think that a woman should be degraded to
saying that she is not strong enough to do something.
I have also experienced stereotyping because of my religion. People think that just

capable of. It felt as though every facet of my life as a toddler was brought together in these
moments, and the music perfectly represented this phase of my childhood. I have since realized how
powerful an effect music has on me, and how the music that I love always seems to define the stage
in my life which it occupies.
In the third grade, I switched schools. This is when I discovered Black Sabbath. This wasn't really
representative of a dark time for me as one might assume, but an excitement over individualism. I
suppose it could have been any band with an unconventional sound, but what loved about Black
Sabbath was how stubbornly they fought to be unique. They were famous because they broke all
expectations for rock bands. This was the ideal soundtrack for my days as a school bus passenger. I
would put on my bulky headphones, and imagine what it could be that would bring my into the
public eye. All I wanted was to be famous, and listening to Ozzy Osbourne yell out emotional lyrics
somehow perfectly expressed my desires. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Led Zeppelin and The Who continued where Black Sabbath had left off. In seventh and eighth
grade, I discovered The Rolling Stones. I started to become more serious about my hobbies, and
visual art became a passion to some extent. After having been a self–proclaimed annoying kid for
years, I began to take myself more seriously. The Rolling Stones aren't exactly the perfect example
of humility and seriousness, but neither was I really, and at least I felt as though their music was not
so much a guilty pleasure as the other rock music I had indulged

My hero
KCC Mr. Crider Summer Bridge July 19, 2013 My Hero It gets me through Last year, I went
through the hardest things I 've ever been faced with in my life. I lost my grandpa and two months
later I lost my aunt and soon after our home was foreclosed on. This left me thinking, " Is this the
end of the beginning or the beginning of the end". What I needed was something to help get me
through these traumas. That 's where my hero, Ozzy Osbourne, comes in. In the essay "My Heroes",
Elizabeth Berg describes how her daughters hero is her friend Laura. Her mother was in shock and

"See you on the Other Side", is the song that I listened to constantly after there passing. Yes, I
listened to it many times before this, but it never had a meaning to me until after this. It helped me
realize that this isn 't the end and it felt good to know that somebody else felt my pain. In addition,
another song that has a positive effect on me is "Gets me Through". He sings, "I 'm not the Anti–
Christ or the Iron Man, but I still love the feeling I get from you, I hope you never stop because it
get 's me through, yeah". Ozzy used those phrases to create an image and to give him courage, but
he is really a positive, spiritual person. These lyrics say to me that I have the strength and control of
my life; I don 't need to linger or dwell on the negative. I can be spiritual and positive and have the
courage to move forward overcoming all obstacles in my life. As an example: all throughout high
school you can pretty much pick out the fake people; they pretend to be something that they 're not
to get other people to like them. I once thought that maybe I needed to create my own images of
somebody I wasn 't to fit in with everyone else at my school. But this song taught me that I don 't
have to be somebody I 'm not, I can just be myself and if others don 't accept me for that then they
're not worth my time. In conclusion, we all as human beings feel the need at times

Does PMRC Play A Role In Music Censorship?
The Parent Music Resource Center or PMRC played a role in music censorship. The organization
consists of conservative elitists and Christian fundamentalists so the ideologies goes into the society
they want it to be and with the music, it is destroying their morals and beliefs. They are afraid that
the culture this kind of music created will take over and throw out their traditional culture.
According to Mrs.Susan Baker during the hearing for record labeling, they wanted to educate
parents and raise awareness about the music that their children are listening to that contains contents
that are inappropriate for them (Brackett,410). They want to music industries to take some
responsibility for it. The PRMC targeted the genres of heavy metal and rap. Heavy was the "prime
offender of decency and decorum" (Garofalo, 325). Rap was not much of a threat because during the
time, it was not as popular compare to heavy metal. Both caused outrage in the conservative
community because of how "violent" and "sexual" the music is. These kind of music are the reason
why there are bad things happening. They say that it is a "cause and effect" (Brackett, 407). The

Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal
How many times have you heard, music is the voice of the soul? Music has always been a universal
common attribute among teens across the world. Music of any genre has a way of making some
people feel alive, happy, sad, or in this case, suicidal. Heavy metal, in particular, in the 1980s had
deadly consequences among teens that have listened then inversely committed suicide. Heavy metal
music seemed to have a negative impact on the purpose of which the music is intended, its
popularity among teens, and the physiological issues related to the suicidal risk of certain listeners.
It is debatable that heavy metal sole purpose is to celebrate a newfound feeling of teenage rebellion
and sexuality, providing them with an escape from the realities of the world. While according to
Susan Barbieri's article in the Orlando Sentinel, some may argue that heavy metal instills imagery
and anger that play on fears about Satanism, drugs, sex, and violence. Heavy metal derived from the
subculture of Hard Rock, consisting of hypersonic drum patterns, screeching electric guitar cords,
with loud and often distorted grunts with subliminal lyrics. It is referenced that heavy metal has ties
to a lot of death, the occult, and Nazi symbolism associated with metal bands (Babieri par. 11).
While some metal music can have a positive self–identifying effect, most metal music songs are
written to promote outward violence and morbid messages that tend to sway listeners to tap into
their violent nature.

Their lyrics influence children everyday and they should be regulated in some shape or form.
Overall
Young people should not have to listen to violent lyrics and vulgar music being produced by
musicians and record producers. That modest warning label on the corner of the CD cover is not as
effective as one would think. If the musicians would cut those offensive lyrics out of the music,
young people would not have the idea of running into a school and shooting random people just to
feel better about themselves. They would not get the idea to kill themselves from their favorite band.
They would not be bombarded with ideas and mental pictures of raping women. Vulgar lyrics are all
around in all types of music genres, from country, to rap, to rock n' roll, to alternative. Musicians
should not have to write music about drugs and alcohol, and sex, and violence to sell their albums.
Violent lyrics are a major problem in today's society. Solving this problem will be very difficult but
according to American Academy of Pediatrics there are a few ways to help control the problem:
Parents are strongly encouraged to take an active role in monitoring music that their children and
adolescents are exposed to and which they purchase.
Parents should join with educators and other parents in local and national coalitions to discuss the
effects of music lyrics on children and adolescents.

Analysis Of Beyonce Knowles 's Drunk Essay
As many youth goes around singing "Drunk in Love" by Beyoncé Knowles they don't know the true
definition of her lyrics. Although they might think the song is talking about drinking watermelon,
she is really talking about getting freaky with her man. The lyrics that young girls are singing mean
the complete opposite of what they are thinking. In the bridge she states "I've been drinking
watermelon" which means I been sucking penis and he came in my mouth and I swallowed. "Boy,
I'm drinking, park it in my lot, 7–11", Beyoncé is saying that she wants Jay–Z to make love to her
any time and she's always ready for him. "Then I fill the tub up halfway then ride it with my
surfboard", Surfboard is a sexual position where Jay–Z is laying flat on the bottom and Beyoncé is
riding on top of him. "Can't keep your eyes off my fatty, daddy, I want you", She keeps repeating
that he keeps staring at her big booty. In this song she is basically telling her listeners that letting her
business out about what goes on in her sex life is okay. Its influence on their behavior appears to
depend on how the sex is portrayed, researchers found. Songs depicting men as "sex–driven studs,"
women as sex objects and with explicit references to sex acts are more likely to trigger early sexual
behavior than those where sexual references are more veiled and relationships appear more
committed, the study found. Most song lyrics don 't discuss dangers of sexual activity, such as
unplanned pregnancy or sexually

Paranoid In Relation To Albin Zak
"Paranoid" from the band Black Sabbath was released in 1970 featured on the album Paranoid.
'Parnoid', one of Black Sabbaths iconic songs is equipped with heavy riffs and repeated rhythms
giving it the ability to stand alone and out from the crowd.
In this short essay I will discuss "Paranoid" in relation to Albin Zak's 5 categories: Musical
Performance, Echo, Timbre, Ambience and Texture. Alongside these categories I will also discuss
what makes this song iconic and what ingredients are mixed together to form their famous 'sonic
signature'.
Musical performance is a key ingredient for any song being performed, without a type of

In short it is the 'sonic colour' which distinguishes the genre and/or artist thus transforming the
music itself. The sonic colour can act in two different ways: Physical; meaning the actual sonic
properties of the genre or artists and Rhetorical; the symbol associations within a particular sound.
"Paranoid" by Black Sabbath is a perfect example of timbre and 'sonic colour' that has greatly
influenced many bands in their shadow with a few sub–genres spawning from its genre: heavy
metal.
"Paranoid" doesn't feature a stereotypical sound, it features a dark and heavy one. This is due to the
flattening of the tuning of the guitar into E flat by Tony Iommi. Along with this down–tuning, Black
Sabbath was also very fond of using the Locrian scale (B to B) and the minor pentatonic scale which
ended up influencing many big bands in the future such as Metallica. Metallica used an augmented
fourth/diminished fifth (also known as a tritone) in many of their songs.
Black Sabbath also had a highly charged tempo in their songs ("Paranoid" being a prime example).
This physical act of 'sonic colour' influenced the founding of thrash

How Does Back Masking Promote Suicide
Back Masking, Subliminal Messages & Suicide.
Fundamentally, one of the core purposes of music is to convey messages and or feelings to the
listeners, however, each artist uses a different method of delivery to accomplish their objective.
Most artists simply just wrote meaningful lyrics or chose appropriate music to get their point across
while a few artists experimented with unconventional options.
Back masking, or putting backwards messages on recordings, is a method some artists have used to
send a message without it being actually heard. This is achieved by recording sounds or messages
backward onto a sound track that is intended to be played forward. Many famous artists have used
this technique although most of them deny doing it, instead saying that it is just coincidence. Some
of the artists alleged to have used back masking are; The Beatles, Queen, Judas Priest, Led
Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. Judas Priest ran into some legal trouble for their song when they were
accused of allegedly placing masked commands in it that directed people to take their own lives,

It is not his fault for people to misinterpret the meaning of his songs. Some people do not listen to

MTV stands for music television, but today that title can be misleading. The channel used to be

The Strength Of Emotional Pain In Diary Of A Madman By...

  • 1. The Strength of Emotional Pain in Diary of a Madman by... It is a known psychological fact that emotional pain is remembered more than physical suffering, and therefore has more effect on our behavior. This is held true for the song Diary of a Madman by Ozzy Osbourne and the book Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Similarities are present throughout both works of art, and the continuous battle of wits and insanity, fought ever so tactfully between both sides. "Manic depression befriends me." It's a lyric in the song that defines Ender's journey through his wrecked childhood. Isolation at Battle School drives Ender to his breaking point, leaving him with a select group of friends, and a family that slowly stops caring for him. His adolescence so quickly stripped of him, because of mankind's selfish needs to procreate a dying race. The adults at his school were so blind to Ender's desires and wants of the family that loved and cherished him. "...he could feel his family around him, as they always had been...it was a mistake to think of them..." (pg. 43) Ender's sudden presence at Battle School forces him to bury his innermost feelings for the fear of being called weak by his peers. He learns how to suppress those feelings even more as his prestigious status as a Commander prodigy requires him to act with a certain dignity and respect. Depression finally gets to him, and he accepts it as a part of him. Scars of the things he's done. Another lyric that mirrors Ender's life is, "Enemies fill up the pages." Ender, whether he knows it or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Why Do Drugs Have On The Music Industry Impact of the drugs on the music industry Don't do drugs! The old adage most people go by, except for the huge numbers for rock and roll music artists. Of course, this is no news to anybody, but why do numerous musicians do an obscene amount of drugs? The obvious answers are always they are coping with the stress, they think it has a positive impact on performance, or they don't know how bad drugs are for mental and physical health. What if drugs are just bad for an artist and have no positive actions. What if artists do drugs because they it positively impacts the music industry? Is there a connection between success and doing drugs? The huge amount of very successful artists that ruined their careers or worse, died from drugs raises ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They can become very famous. They just need to appeal the clean–cut image, or they can go the straight edge path. Abstinence from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco is the premise on which Straight Edge is created. They wanted to make a positive social change according to Thomas Barlett (2006). Ted Nugent was a major face of these ideologies. Ted reached a high level of success. The straight edge music doesn't necessarily have the same level of popularity as artists on drugs, but that is not to say they lack creativity. Other clean artists are spread throughout the subgenres of rock and roll. Gene Simmons of Kiss, and Angus Young of AC/DC claim they weren't hooked on drugs either. Gene Simmons of Kiss, didn't have that much creative sound, but he might not have been that creative of a person. They even admitted "we are entertainers, not so much musicians". Not doing drugs doesn't have to hurt a band's popularity, they just need to develop an identity that is popular and different. An identity that stands for something that groups of people can get ... • 3. Ozzy Osbourne Suicide Solution Analysis Music has a powerful influence in our lives. It is something that surrounds us every day; it has become so attached to us that we use it as inspiration, to feel relaxed, comfortable and sometimes we make decisions led by the type of music we are listening in that instant. During the time Ozzy Osbourne has released many pieces of music containing very contentious messages, which is the case of "Suicide Solution". In result of this piece of music, there were some tragical deaths, making "Suicide Solution" to become controversial. The song was released on September 20, 1980. But its outcomes did not wait too long and four years later Osbourne was in the eye of the hurricane. On October 26, 1984, a 19–years–old American named John McCollum shot himself in his bedroom while listening to Osbourne's songs. His parents pointed out that the song "Suicide Solution" had encouraged him to commit suicide. The police reported that the solo debut Blizzard of Osbourne was found on McCollum's turntable and they said that the last song he had listened was "Suicide Solution". He shot himself and he was found still wearing his headphones. John's parent sued Osbourne in October 1985; they sued him and his record company. But the case was dismissed in August 1986. When this happened, John's parents tried to bring even more attention to the case. They said that the song contained themes of devil worship and death, they used as evidence the quote that says " suicide in the only way out" and they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Headbanger 's Roots Canchola 1 ReynaLinda Canchola McConkey English 101 28 September 2016 A Headbanger's Roots To those who have not been exposed to other genres besides mainstream music, I am hoping to give you some insight on a headbanger's roots. With new metal bands popping up in local cities, it's important to understand the history behind the genre. Like every other genre, heavy metal can be traced back to it's roots, to the moment where everything changed and turned into something that will continue to affect people for years to come. It caused an uproar first in England, and then spread like wildfire to all four corners of the world. Heavy metal was a musical revolution that brought together diverse groups of people while influencing new genres, ideas, and lifestyles worldwide Heavy metal was created in the late 1960's. One of the most influential bands in this genre was, and continues to be, Black Sabbath. This band paved the way for hundreds of subgenres after their time. Black Sabbath originated in Birmingham, England where Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Lommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward formed a band originally named The Polka Tulk Blues Band. Around this time, their town was going through an economic depression where unemployment was rising and working–class factories were being shut down. • 5. Similarities Between The Osbournes And The Little People When one would think that the " The all American family " is not always normal, for example The Osbournes, and The Little People. Ozzy from The Osbournes is not the typical American parent such as Amy from The Little People. While Ozzy follows the day to day life as a rockstar, Amy manages two jobs one of which is at " The Little People of America Organization " and the other is at " Hillsborough Soccer Club ". These two all American families may seem similar but could not be any more different. There Goes the Neighborhood (ep.1) of the reality TV show The Osbournes is about the family moving into their new house and later in the afternoon Ozzy performs live on " The Tonight Show." As the years began to evolve so did the opinion of Rock N' Roll. Rock N' Roll began influencing people's everyday lives from their fashion, attitudes, and even language. The most influential genre found in Rock N' Roll was heavy metal, due to its strong beats and violent or fantastic imagery. Motley Crue was neither the first nor the last heavy metal band in Rock N' Roll. They were, however, the band social critics loved to hate. By placing Motley Crue within the development of heavy metal, one can discover how Rock N' Roll, even in the 1980s, continued to divide American society. Motley Crue was founded in the early 1980s with numerous other astonishing heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Scorpion, Def Leppard, and Metallic. These bands choose to be associated with the genre heavy metal, because they knew the impact it would leave on their fan base. Yet many people had their doubts about this new style of music due to its negative outlooks. Heavy metal was believed to split our society by encouraging rebellious tendencies against authority figures such as parents, adults, schools, and the work force. However music can, and often does, affect our emotions negatively as well as positively: depending on how frequently it is listened to, it can create channels in your minds and patterns of thinking. As a young adult in today 's society I can say from experience that being influenced by media is something teens go through everyday. Feeling pressured to fit in and accepted in a group is something every person goes through in their life, and during adolescence you're willing to do a lot of things that may be out of your comfort zone. Listening to music that you wouldn't listen to is something I personally see a lot, feeling the need to have that connection to a person through music, to be able to have conversation and be liked because you're a part of the "Mainstream" flow of things. Most teenagers spend an average of 4 to 5 hours a day listening to music or watching music videos. Therefore, music plays a important role in the development of these youths. I will discuss about music lyrics and music lyrics and music videos, and how these create an impact on youths over the decades. With that said, music is one of the most censored types of arts we have in our society. "Music provides a powerful form of expression that at its most basic level helps to entertain while containing the power to cause revolutions – both cultural and political. Music's inherent power scares some people who are afraid of the powerful potential to shape attitudes and beliefs. The banning of music sets a dangerous precedent for the censorship of other forms of expression – with dangerous consequences for a free society. Why is music censored? I was a preschool student at the time, and after a long day of coloring and napping, I would cut loose on the dance floor that was my living room. It felt as though every facet of my life as a toddler was brought together in these moments, and the music perfectly represented this phase of my childhood. I have since realized how powerful an effect music has on me, and how the music that I love always seems to define the stage in my life which it occupies. In the third grade, I switched schools. This is when I discovered Black Sabbath. This wasn't really representative of a dark time for me as one might assume, but an excitement over individualism. I suppose it could have been any band with an unconventional sound, but what loved about Black Sabbath was how stubbornly they fought to be unique. They were famous because they broke all expectations for rock bands. This was the ideal soundtrack for my days as a school bus passenger. • 27. Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal How many times have you heard, music is the voice of the soul? Music has always been a universal common attribute among teens across the world. Music of any genre has a way of making some people feel alive, happy, sad, or in this case, suicidal. Heavy metal, in particular, in the 1980s had deadly consequences among teens that have listened then inversely committed suicide. Heavy metal music seemed to have a negative impact on the purpose of which the music is intended, its popularity among teens, and the physiological issues related to the suicidal risk of certain listeners. It is debatable that heavy metal sole purpose is to celebrate a newfound feeling of teenage rebellion and sexuality, providing them with an escape from the realities of the world. Heavy metal derived from the subculture of Hard Rock, consisting of hypersonic drum patterns, screeching electric guitar cords, with loud and often distorted grunts with subliminal lyrics. It is referenced that heavy metal has ties to a lot of death, the occult, and Nazi symbolism associated with metal bands (Babieri par. 11). While some metal music can have a positive self–identifying effect, most metal music songs are written to promote outward violence and morbid messages that tend to sway listeners to tap into their violent nature. ... Alongside these categories I will also discuss what makes this song iconic and what ingredients are mixed together to form their famous 'sonic signature'. In short it is the 'sonic colour' which distinguishes the genre and/or artist thus transforming the music itself. The sonic colour can act in two different ways: Physical; meaning the actual sonic properties of the genre or artists and Rhetorical; the symbol associations within a particular sound. "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath is a perfect example of timbre and 'sonic colour' that has greatly influenced many bands in their shadow with a few sub–genres spawning from its genre: heavy metal. "Paranoid" doesn't feature a stereotypical sound, it features a dark and heavy one. This is due to the flattening of the tuning of the guitar into E flat by Tony Iommi. Along with this down–tuning, Black Sabbath was also very fond of using the Locrian scale (B to B) and the minor pentatonic scale which ended up influencing many big bands in the future such as Metallica. Metallica used an augmented fourth/diminished fifth (also known as a tritone) in many of their songs. Black Sabbath also had a highly charged tempo in their songs ("Paranoid" being a prime example). This physical act of 'sonic colour' influenced the founding of thrash ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fundamentally, one of the core purposes of music is to convey messages and or feelings to the listeners, however, each artist uses a different method of delivery to accomplish their objective. Most artists simply just wrote meaningful lyrics or chose appropriate music to get their point across while a few artists experimented with unconventional options. Back masking, or putting backwards messages on recordings, is a method some artists have used to send a message without it being actually heard. This is achieved by recording sounds or messages backward onto a sound track that is intended to be played forward. Many famous artists have used this technique although most of them deny doing it, instead saying that it is just coincidence. Some of the artists alleged to have used back masking are; The Beatles, Queen, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. It is not his fault for people to misinterpret the meaning of his songs. Some people do not listen to the lyrics closely. Some just listen to the music and do not follow along with the lyrics. "Heavy metal music has been a source of criticism ever since its' birth in the late nineteen eighties" (Coss). Many people criticize this type of music because there is anger shown in the lyrics. Although the lyrics can be controversial at times, there is no evidence saying that heavy metal music causes violence. • 39. Write An Essay On The Osbournes MTV stands for music television, but today that title can be misleading. The channel used to be known for playing music videos of many different genres, but today MTV focuses more on reality TV shows. It wasn't that long ago that MTV was all about the music like its title suggests. In fact during the summer of 2004 I remember watching shows like TRL, and seeing My Chemical Romance's video for their song "Helena". More recently I remember turning on the TV before going to school, and seeing the video for "The Drug in Me Is You" by Falling in Reverse, which happened to be one of my favorite bands at the time. Despite that, in the last ten years MTV has took a drastic turn in its content compared when the channel first debuted in the 1980s. "Ladies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of my personal favorite shows that MTV produced is The Osbournes. The Osbournes is a TV show that explores the home life of The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon, and their two children Jack and Kelly. The show ran from 2002–2005, and is deemed to be the most watched series on the channel. The Osbournes was just one of the ways MTV tried to entice their audience with the family's crazy antics, and over use of swear words. In the recent years MTV has produced a lot of original content. Some of the notable shows were The Real World, Punk'd, MTV Cribs, Jackass, and more recently, Teen Wolf, 16 And Pregnant, and Teen Mom.
