The Solar System consists of nine planets orbiting the sun in elliptical orbits, along with their moons. The inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, which are made mostly of rock. The outer planets are Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, which are gas giants. The sun is at the center and provides light and heat to the planets, making life possible on Earth through photosynthesis by plants which produce oxygen.
