Pontiac's War (1763) saw Native American tribes led by Pontiac attack and capture British forts in response to British encroachment on their lands. Although the British regained control, the conflict convinced them to close western lands to settlers through the Proclamation of 1763. Growing tensions over subsequent taxation acts without representation led to increased unrest and protests in the colonies, culminating in the Intolerable Acts in 1774 in response to the Boston Tea Party, further unifying the colonies in their opposition to British rule.
