The Jamestown Settlement Founded on May 14, 1607 The first permanent English settlement Named for King James 1 of England Known for its many resources, many Americans founded business in lumber and other business
The Mayflower & The First Thanksgiving Pilgrims arrived on the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock on December 11, 1620 After creating their new homes the pilgrims had a feast celebrating the first harvest. This celebration is known as “The First Thanksgiving
The Interests of the Colonies In 1729 Ben Franklin published The Pennsylvania Gazette, which turned out to be one of American colonists favorite papers!
The French Indian War The war was a result of a dispute in the Ohio River Valley between France and Native Americans in the year 1754 George Washington came to fight, but lost to the impressive French troops Eventually England succeeded winning the seven year dispute in 1763 and created the Treaty of Paris
The Declatory Act of 1766 With England trying to impose new rules in the Americas King George III and English parliament created the Declatory Act This stated that the British government and complete control of all laws of the American colonies One of the first steps leading to the American Revolution
The Boston Massacre On March 5, 1770 an angry mob was violently gunned down by British soldiers The governor of Massachusetts, Thomas Hutchinson, expelled all of the British soldiers from Boston The captain of the British soldiers and some of the troops are arrested and charged with murder They were eventually convicted and branded as was custom for felons
The Tea Act & the results On May 10, 1773 the Tea Act is initiated in the American colonies States that there would be a tax on tea and allowed the East Indian trading company to create a monopoly with colonial merchants This made it very difficult for American merchants to supply tea
Boston Tea Party On December 16 th , 1773 over 8000 men revolted against the unfairness of the Tea Act Dressing up as Mohawk Indians they successfully dumped over 342 containers of tea into the Boston Harbor
The Intolerable Acts of 1774 After the BTP, England created a series of intolerable acts imposed until the tea that had been dumped was paid for Shut down shipping to the Boston Harbor On October 14 th  the American colonists decided with the Declaration of Resolves to not obey the new acts

The Shot Around the World!!! On April 18 th , 1775 Paul Revere and William Dawe ride to warn John Adams and John Hancock of the arrival of British soldiers to fight the colonists Dawn of April 19 th  at Lexington Green the British and Americans met up beginning the American Revolution
Declaration of Independence June 7 th  1776, Richard Henry Lee (Virginia) called Continental Congress to declare independence from England The Declaration was wrote by Thomas Jefferson and edited by John Adams On July 4 th  the Declaration was endorsed by all colonies (although it wasn’t signed until August 2 nd )
Articles of Confederation November 15 th  1777 Congress creates these articles to be the bases of government in the USA These make Congress the new sole authority of the government
ITS OVER!!!! On February 4 th  1783 England calls an end to its dispute with America On April 11 th  Congress officially calls an end to the Revolutionary War England and America sign the Treaty of Paris, resulting in American independence from GB!  The treaty was ratified on January 14 th , 1784
The Constitution July 16 th  1787 a rough draft of the constitution was created at the constitutional convention September 17 th  1787: The Constitution is approved and signed by the 39 delegates
Hello Mr. President! On April 6 th  1789 George Washington is voted as the first President of the United States of America After spending several days celebrating his victory George Washington arrived in New York on April 23 rd He was sworn in as President on April 30 th  at the age of 37
The Bill of Rights On September 25 th , 1789 Congress submitted 12 amendments to the constitution to states for ratification Of these twelve, ten were approved In 1791 they were added to the constitution as “The Bill of Rights” END SHOW
