Supporting Situational Awareness at LAX using FME ServerSafe Software
Los Angeles International Airport is a dynamic airport undergoing massive changes to its infrastructure and facilities. Yet, the airport and its employees continue to serve over 60 million passengers a year. Because of these demands, airport operations, maintenance, police, and emergency personnel require accurate and current situational data. LAX uses FME Server to coordinate and automate the collection of disparate GIS data sources into one uniform location. Geospatial data is collected from multiple departments utilizing CAD, GIS, property management, and maintenance management systems. FME server is used to check the data for quality and compatibility then, formats the data into an ArcGIS geodatabase. This database supports the NICE Situator Desktop and Web Application that tracks incidents at the airport from plumbing leaks and fuel spills to police activity and airfield operations. Combining these resources provides LAX management and field user’s powerful data and tools to analyze and respond to incidents throughout the campus. These systems together will support LAX and its employees through its current changes and into the future.
FME Spatial Querying in a CAD-Driven GISSafe Software
Ponderosa has used AutoCAD Map 3D and Microsoft SQL Server as its primary GIS for over 10 years. Having DWG objects stored with real world coordinates has allowed Ponderosa to manage its telecom infrastructure by providing accurate locations for underground locators, footage information to qualify available services as well as detailed maps for engineering and planning purposes.
In the past 5-years, regulatory requirements have relied more and more on GIS data to support reports that require a variety of GIS layer overlay including Census Blocks, Census Tracts and Zip code Boundaries. Limited GIS tools in AutoCAD have proven to be inefficient and time consuming in running some the required queries and analysis. This class will focus on how FME's robust GIS querying functionality was used to save hundreds of hours in querying and analyzing GIS data stored in AutoCAD Map 3d and SQL Server.

Current State of mago3D, an Open Source Based Digital Twin PlatformSANGHEE SHIN
I gave this talk at the FOSS4G 2019 Bucharest. I talked about the recent achievements and improvements of mago3D project, an open source based Digital Twin platform. mago3D(http mago3d.com) is relatively new project first released in July 2017. The ultimate goal of mago3D is developing an open source based digital twin platform that can replicate and simulate the real world objects, processes, and phenomena on web environment. mago3D is on its way to achieve this goal now. mago3D has been used in various industry sectors including ship building, urban management, indoor data management, and national defense. In this talk I showcased several real projects that employed the mago3D and shared what I learnt from these projects.
mago3D - A Brand-New Live 3D Geo-Platform SANGHEE SHIN
This presentation introduces Gaia3D's mago3D platform. mago3D is an open source based 3D geo-platform that can integrate BIM(Building Information Modelling), AEC(Architecture, Engineering, Construction) data and 3D GIS on web browser.
Introduction:
Although there have been numerous attempts to integrate BIM and 3D GIS on a single geospatial platform, the outcome of those attempts are not so satisfactory till to date. Difference of data model, massive number of data to be rendered, big volume of file size are among those major technical barriers that hindered seamless integration of BIM and 3D GIS. And there are many increasing demands to see and integrate BIM and 3D GIS on a web browser since web environment has been proven as an effective collaborative platform in architecture and geospatial domains. This presentation introduces an open source based BIM-GIS integration platform called mago3D(https://github.com/Gaia3D/mago3djs) that could manage, handle, and visualise massive 3D data from BIM and 3D GIS simultaneously on a web browser. mago3D platform has been developed on top of well-known open source GIS projects, Cesium(http://cesiumjs.org/) and NASA World Wind(https://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/), to make the best of their existing features and at the same time to expand the functionalities to BIM and AEC(Architecture, Engineering and Construction) areas.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
