Diabolical Nature Of Work And Leisure In Human Life And Life
In the Christian world and life view, both work and leisure are considered good things. Both
come as gifts from God s hand and are rooted and discerned from the Lord s foundational act in
creation. Yet these gracious endowments can be easily misused and become idols that wreak havoc
in people s lives. The diabolical nature of sin is that it so enslaves people that they not only do bad
things, but they also misuse good things. And Christians, though they are forgiven sinners through
embracing Jesus Christ as Savior, nevertheless still struggle with sin s weighty power.
Let s briefly explore how both work and leisure are justified as good things in light of God s work
in creation. We ll then go on to reflect upon how such good things can be unfortunately misused in
life.
Made to Work
It is interesting that upon his creation, Adam was almost immediately assigned to work by God
(gardening: Genesis 2:15, zoology: Genesis 2:20). These assigned tasks in the Garden of Eden
certainly came long before Adam fell into sin through rebellion against God. So it seems that human
beings were created to work, and in a Christian context, to carry out one s discerned vocations
before God and to earn one s living (Ephesians 4:28). Moreover, slothfulness and laziness are
identified as serious character vices in the Bible (Proverbs 6:6 9, 13:4; 2 Thessalonians 3:10; 1
Timothy 5:8). So work and vocation can involve all occupations that are consistent with a Christian
worldview.
Made to Rest
Leisure in the life of God s people is derived from what God did after creation. Upon creating the
world, the sovereign Lord declared the creation good (Genesis 1:31) and rested from his work
(Genesis 2:2). This period of rest (even apart from how one understands the controversial
theological issue of the Sabbath1) and the goodness of the created order justifies the general idea
of leisure as a divine mandate for humanity. Leisure involves a rest from work, but it should not be
thought of as mere idleness. The activities of leisure should never be sinful in and of themselves,
nor should they interfere with a believer s ultimate devotion to God (1 Corinthians 10:31,
Colossians 3:23). Some Christian traditions have connected appropriate

Sky was in a hurry to born. She was born at 35 weeks my water broke at home and by the time I
reached the hospital she was ready to make her appearance. There was no time for breathing and
relaxing techniques, so she arrived soon after we arrived. From the time Sky was born she was
a curious and active baby. 3 4 There has been a lot of physical development that has taken place
from infancy through adolescence with Sky. Physical development examining the ways in
which the body s makeup the brain, nervous system, muscles, and senses and the need for food,
drink, and sleep helps determine behavior (Feldman, 2013, p. 5). Physical development involves
developing control over the body, muscles, and physical coordination. Physical development
starts during infant years, and it continues into adolescent. Like Sky and other infants most of
the development occurs in childhood crucial time for neurological brain development and body

skipping, throwing and catching. At about three years old Sky enjoyed coloring cutting, reading
and writing. Sky was always a social butterfly, and she has always enjoyed being around other

The American Nurse Association ( Ana ) Code Of Ethics
Healthcare organizations are committed to providing clients with quality service and experience
while promoting safety, health, and healing. Nurses have the biggest impact in providing safe
client care and are known for their commitment in improving or increasing client health. However,
this ethical commitment may not always be met due to breakdowns in healthcare delivery.
Deviations such as adoption of unsafe practices or behaviors can lead to sentinel events. Any
disconnects or disruptions can be a detriment to client care. This paper will present recent cases of
witnessed breakdowns of facility protocols that have led to adoptions of unsafe nursing practices,
discuss its impact to healthcare, and how it has affected my personal perspective on the issue.
Provision three of the American Nurse Association (ANA) Code of Ethics states that the nurse
promotes, advocates for, and protects the rights, health, and safety of the patient. Within this
standard, it specifies that nurses have a professional responsibility in promoting a culture of safety
(American Nurse Association [ANA], 2015). As nursing students, we have the privilege of working
with nurses in different departments during clinical rotations. Nursing students are able to observe
the ethical application and inattention/negligence of this provision through the use of evidence
based practice as well as unhealthy practices, respectively. While on clinical rotation, the most

Cold War Research Paper
When most people think of War they think of weapons, killing, and vicious attacks, however, that s
not what the Cold War was; hence the name. The Cold war was primarily a conflict between the
Eastern bloc and the Western bloc involving mainly economic and political actions, but no direct
military action between the United Statesand the USSR. The Eastern bloc consisted of the Soviet
Unionand its satellite states, and the Western bloc consisted of the United States and its NATO
allies. The Cold Warbegan in 1945, nearly immediately after the end of World War II, then lasting

In addition to this war costing so many lives, this war also had a large money cost; nearly Eight
trillion dollars. This shocking cost tends to take a lot of people off guard, although war is
expensive, most people were expecting things one to be relatively cheap because it was not
involving any military action. However, this war was full of threats, especially the threat of using
nuclear weapons. In order to have an accurate threat, the United States would continuously be
building nuclear weapons in case this war reached that extent. Therefore, that s where the large cost
came in, because, the United States was spending about thirty five billion dollars per year on the
construction of nuclear weaponry. This approximately forty five year war was a constant
worldwide clash between the Soviet Communism and the American capitalism. Fortunately, after
losing so many lives and so much money, it is thought that the United States finally won the Cold
War. However, the United States is only remembered as the winners, because the Soviet Union lost.

The Importance Of Human Rights-Based Environmental Rights
Essentially, there are three avenues available when wishing to expand human rights based
environmental protection. The first, as discussed above, is through the broadening of existing
human rights to include environmental rights, as was done in the Lopez and Guerra cases. The
second, is through the assertion of substantive environmental rights, an approach which has so far
seen very little practice, and third through asserting procedural environmental rights . The third
method has seen an increasing level of prevalence in recent years, most notably beginning with
Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environmental Development, which provides Environmental
issues are best handled with the participation of all concerned citizens, (...) each individual shall
have appropriate access to information concerning the environment, (...) and the opportunity to
participate in decision making processes. (...) Effective access to judicial and administrative
proceedings, including redress and remedy, shall be provided. This Principle was the basis for the
1998 Aarhus Convention on Access too Information, Public Participation in Decision making and
Access to Justice in environmental matters. The three pillars of the Aarhus Convention, Access to
Information, Public participation in decision making, and access to justice, are strictly procedural
in content . According to the former Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan, Although regional in
scope, the significance of the Aarhus Convention

German Occupation Of Poland Dbq Essay
During World War II, non Jewish Poles had to decide whether to obey the new laws in German
occupied Poland. These new laws greatly affected how people would act in German occupied
Poland. The consequences for breaking the laws were very severe and would often result in harm
to your family. But people still broke them for no other reason for the fact that the laws were
wrong. They helped Jews even though it wasn t allowed by the government. Citizens responded to
the laws passed by the state during the German occupation of Polandin many different ways this

In Poland in the year of 1942 was when Poles first had to start choosing. On September 24th 1942

A Book About The Torment That This Young Man Had From The...
Reading this extremely descriptive book about the torment that this young man had to go through is
kind of like reading a diary entry that stemmed from a failed high school relationship. Except in this
case, someone else is writing this story about heartbreak. The author digs deep into the feelings and
the underlying meaning behind the story of this young manand it almost seems as though they are
experimenting or gathering data. In fact, it states that they are an observer in this short drama.
While this book is full of serious topics and it is very dense literature, it seems to portray some
sort of farce. The story of the guy from the author s own point of view is way too dramatic for
what it really is, but when taken seriously it shows us what he is going through. Life itself is a
farce and we must live with some ethical reasoning and purpose, but sometimes we overanalyze
a situation and we need God s guidance for keeping us in our track. The first part of the story
describes what repetition and recollection is and why it is so important. It introduces us to the
dilemma of a young man who cannot seem to understand his break up with his girlfriend, to put it
simply. The second part describes how he deals and finds meaning in his struggles through the
story of Job and how he learns to move on. In the beginning, we are informed about repetition and
how we as people crave it so much. There is a difference between repetition and recollection.
Repetition is experiencing the

Analysis Of The Poem Three Quatrains By Faiz Ahmed...
When one thinks about the country India the first thing that will come to their mind is their rich,
colorful clothes and animals that are part of their culture. Most do not think of the literature in
India, and how life is incorporated into their writing. A common theme throughout Indian literature
is life, and literary elements were used to reveal themes throughout their writing. A themeof pain in
the narrator s life was explained more to the reader through the use of personification, repetition,
and irony. These literary elements make the narrator s pain become more prominent and have more
of an impact on the reader.
Personification appeared often throughout Faiz Ahmed Faiz s poems. The use of personification

By using repetition it adds more meaning to how the narrator is feeling. There are places that have
sentimental value to the narrator, and the reader can see this through repetition. [G]ate is still
open and no gate opens the reader can tell that gates are have an important meaning to the
narrator since they are repeated (Faiz 551 552). Also since the gate is repeated in a positive and
a negative way, the reader can see the connection the narrator has with feeling pain and the gates.
The relationship the narrator has can be explained through repetition. The pain is greater than the
relationship, this night is the tree of pain, greater than you or me, and, this night, the tree of pain,
vaster than you or me ( Faiz 552). Since the narrator refers to the, night, the tree of pain , could
mean that the narrator has levels and parts of pain that are like branches of a tree. It also reveals
what causes pain for the narrator. My tormenter, my love, be near me shows the reader the narrator
had loved someone, but they left the narrator (Faiz 553 554). The pain will not be perfectly gone
unless the person the narrator loves is with him. Along with personification and repetition the
author used irony to show the theme of pain in the narrator.
Along with Faiz Ahmed Faiz using personification and repetition throughout his poems, he also
used irony. Irony is normally used in a

John Stuart Mill And Plato
Throughout history, many philosophers have argued different ideas about government, but only a
few have discussed women s roles in government and society. Two great thinkers John Stuart Mill
and Plato, are apart of this small group of philosophers and have even been described as feminists.
In this essay, I will discuss the ideas of Mill and Plato that have led to their feminist epithets and
whether or not I think it is true.
Mill is considered to be one of the earliest feminists in history because of his campaign for gender
equality. In Mill s essay Subjection of Women , he argues strongly for women s rights, and gender
equality, which are the main principles of feminism. In chapter 1, Mill challenges the idea that
women are by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[149] This argument can be refuted by using Mill s natural argument. He states that What is now
called the nature of women is an artificial thing the result of the forced repression in some
directions, unnatural stimulation in others. [152] In other words Mill is stating that the subjection
of women is something that has been ingrained in society for so long that is custom. Even the
ones who are oppressed, which are women, in this case, will even start to believe it, (which is why
they might prefer being housewives). Mill uses this argument to explain that custom is the reason
for the subjection of women and not the so called natural differences. To conclude this point, Mill
argued that the inequality of women was a relic from the past , and had no place in the modern
world. [150] This supports the notion that he was, in fact, a feminist. He believed that women
should be on an equal playing field with men and that having effectively half the human race unable
to contribute to society is a hindrance to human development . [134] Even though Mill s ideas are
important to feminist texts of the nineteenth century he still inspires feminists around the world
even till this day.
In Book V of The Republic Plato discusses his ideas about women s role in his ideal state. Plato
feels that women should receive equal administrative occupations, including the rule of the city as
well as its defense. Plato may be described as

Free Time Periods By Nathanial Hawthorne And Benjamin...
Despite writing in different time periods, Nathanial Hawthorne and Benjamin Franklin both
demonstrate strong opinions about democratic equality in America. Through his short stories,
Hawthorne writes cautionary tales demonstrating the fear and confusion that Puritan characters
have when they discover the sinfulness of others. Franklin writes about the inequality in America
but gives the reader a method for overcoming this inequality and making the most out of oneself.
While Franklin and Hawthorne both argue for democratic equality, there are important differences
in their writings in the way to achieve equality. Throughout this paper, I will compare and contrast
these two authors and then make the argument that Hawthorne s writings are more persuasive since
they demonstrate the constant struggle between morality and individualism, a challenge that still
exists in the 21st century.
In Benjamin Franklin s Autobiography, he writes about his remarkable life and career, but also
maps out how common folk can create their own success in America. Franklin lays out certain
virtues that he believes people should cultivate if they want to improve themselves and create
success from nothing, as he did. For example, I included under thirteen names of virtues all that at
that time occurr d to me as necessary or desirable. He argues that it is not exceptional ability that
cultivates success but a devotion to serving others and the discipline needed to pursue the virtues

Students And Athletes Athletes
Ambidexterity Amongst Students and Athletes MATH 141 (Prof. An) Final Project December
2015 Romeo Ardimento, Lorraine Jabouin, Christopher Kremer, Fiona Macleod Introduction
/Background Being Ambidextrous can be quite useful; particularly for athletes and musicians.
Many sports require the use of both hands, as do many instruments. For this reason our team
decided to determine the difference in ambidexterity, if any, between people who are either
athletes or musicians, and individuals who are not involved in either sports or music. We were
interested in determining if the ability of participants to use their weak hand as well as their
dominant hand is associated with participation in athletics or music. Does an individual s
participation in either a sport or the fact that they play a musical instrument dictate how well they
can use both hands? Methodology We decided that the best way to answer this question would be
with a study. Our participants would be made up of 60 students. These participants would be
made up of three equally divided identity groups. 20 athletes, 20 musicians, and 20 individuals
who do not participate in sports or play an instrument (who from this point on will be referred to as
the neither group). Those identified as athletes had to have had been on a Varsity team and those
who were identified as musicians had to have been playing their instrument for more than two
years. Individuals who fell into both categories were excluded. Participants were

Contemporary Appretation Of Contemporary Interpretations...
Contemporary Interpretations of Sacred Scripture:
Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen. I would like to begin by extending a warm welcome to
todays seminar that will dive into all things regarding religion and its place in a modern society.
I will be solely focusing on a contemporary expression that shows similarities and differences to a
sacred text of Christianity. So why is this of importance? The ever growing world we live in can
often make it difficult for traditions to be maintained in community s due to their arguably
outdated form and language. However, these values, messages and themes can be showcased and
interpreted by viewers in modern expressions such as film, song and poetry. The animated 2008
film Wall E, directed by Andrew Stanton generally showcases the purpose of the story Adam and
Eve. This is because of its ability to teach the concept of straying from Gods way of life and the
negative impacts leading a greedy and consumerist lifestyle can have. The ways in which it
showcases the ideas in both the parent and derivative text can be seen in the interpretations of the
central message as well as the context and purpose of both pieces.
The central message of Wall E and the story of Adamand Eve is very similar. The story of Adam
and Eve reported in Genesis chapter two versus four until chapter three versus twenty four is
commonly associated with the teaching of the original sin, fall and death as well as human s
decision in following God s commands. Wall E

How America Should Be Governed By Thomas Paine, George...
Throughout the Late 18th century America was becoming their own independent nation. The new
independent nation needed to set up a government to rule them. There were several discussions on
how America would be governed. Many people had different ideas for America and yet some were
similar. Thomas Paine, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton
, James Madison, and Thomas
Jeffersonall wrote their ideas on how America should set up their government. Some of these
ideas were not used while some are still used today. Thomas Paine states his ideas for the
government in his Common Sense written in 1776. Paine states that America should not have a
king. The first king might be great but then ruling by divine right usually ends up with the
people having terrible kings. Once a monarch is put into place it becomes extremely hard to
remove. Today in America we still do not have kings which is very good for America. The
democracy system that we have in place gives Americans many rights and overall good country to
live in unlike 3rd world countries. Paine brings up the point that most subjects under a king do not
revolt do to fear and superstition. This made me wonder why they would fear. The subjects would
outnumber the royalty and their guards if they would all stand together. Paine stated that we should
break all connection with Britain and only be trading partners instead of allies. This did not come
true. America to this day is allies with Britain. Paine also states that anytime

Ultrasound Therapeutic Effect
Piezoelectric effect was discovered by Currie brothers in 1880. Further, in 1927, Loomis, wood
studied the ultrasound therapeutic ability. In 1940, Ludwig and Struthers published first research
paper on ultrasound. It was the first pulse echo mode ultrasound for the detection of gallstones in
animal tissues. Howry and Bliss, in 1950 were succeeded in analyzing and depicting the anatomic
details of an organ in water bath using B mode technology. Ultrasound (US) is most widely used
diagnostic modality which is cheap as compared to other imaging modalities. Some of its
advantages include non ionizing radiations, real time data availability, large scalable imaging
depth, portability and cost effectiveness. A highly advanced ultrasound came to a stagnant phase
when its hardware was improved along with its software and algorithms. So, the only place to
expand the scope was imaging at cellular and molecular scale. Additionally, providing diagnostic
information beyond that of conventional sonography, and usage of contrast agents. To address the

Mcdonald s and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). This report starts out with a brief introduction
allocated to each of the company. Initially, we begin by explaining the planning strategies used by
Mcdonald s and KFC and then compare the plans against each other. After that, we briefly
explained the importance of planning for both the companies. Following that, we explained and
compared the leadership behaviour of both company s CEO and the types of power he uses to
influence others and the organisational results. We then described the 5 Maslow s Hierarchy of
Needs for both the companies and suggested how the CEO can further motivate his people. Lastly,
we defined the managerial roles played by the CEOs and did a final comparison based on these ...

Participative style is where the leader and the subordinates shares their views and opinions in
decision making process. This can be seen in Roger Eaton where he provides group of interactive
sessions and open conversations. This is to enhance open communication and give employees the
opportunity to express concerns and their ideas.
Comparison:
Steve Easterbrook, CEO of Mcdonald s, adopts the selling style. Steve believes in managing the
people in his company by using both directive and supportive behaviour. He displays his supportive
behaviour towards his employees by motivating them to further increase their self confidence level.
In addition to this, he also shows directive behaviour by paying attention to his employees and
make sure they carry out tasks correctly and under supervision.
Roger Eaton on the other hand adopts a participative style. He entrusts tasks to his employees and
involves them in decision making process for KFC and encourages them to delegate other
employees to get things done instead of him supervising everyone all the

Chinese Triads Research Paper
Threat: Chinese Triads pose threats to U.S. national security in relation to drug and human
trafficking. In the United States, these groups are active in most metropolitan areas that have a
large Chinese population, and typically keep their activities limited to those areas. Within these
areas they are often responsible for heroin and methamphetamine trafficking, human trafficking and
intimidation/protection practices. While documented triad activity in the United Statesreached a
peak in the 1990s, it is not clear if activity has truly been curbed or if the nature of privacy within
the Chinese subculture is preventing the threat from being properly documented. Although Triads
are active within the United States, their involvement in allied states poses an additional threat to
U.S. security and its interests.
Background: The history of Chinese Triads within the United States is closely linked with the
history of Chinese and Hong Kong based triads. The original Chinese Triad formed during the 17th
century, and wanted to overthrow the Qing dynasty and bring back the Ming dynasty. However, by
the early 1900s had broken into several smaller splinter groups. Currently, major ... Show more

A Visit At The Museum Of Fine Arts
Museum Assignment On November 8th, 2016 I took a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston,
Massachusetts, to conduct research on different kinds of art. When I got there I went straight to
The Ancient World exhibit to find a piece of artwork that I found fascinating. The moment I took a
step through those giant glass doors, I saw the Colossal Statue of King Menkaura. This vast piece
of artwork had so much history and detail from one particular era, it was almost breathtaking. As I
continued on through The Ancient World exhibit there were many works of art that stood out to
me. However it wasn t until I reached the Greek Mythologyportion of the museum when I really
found the piece that literally made me gasp. The sculptureof Cupid (Eros) was exactly the type of
artwork I was hoping to discover. The sculpture of Cupid (Eros) was simple, yet it also had a
complex composition to it.
The Colossal Statue of King Menkaura was built around 2,490 B.C and is the largest statue
from the pyramid age. This piece of artwork fits into the category of an An image or object
related to a ruler, whether king, queen, emperor or other . King Menkaura fits into this catergory
because he was a ruler of the 4th dynasty during the Old Kingdom period, and was the creator of
the three pyramids in Giza. One pyramid which he built for himself, was the Pyramid of Menkaura.
This Egyptian statue is made out of Travertine, which is a type of limestone that is deposited by

Analysis Of The Book The Of Socrates
Robbie Higdon
Professor Swinehart
Intro to Phil. Questions
15 October 2014
The fact that [Socrates ] trial came to court when it need not have done so, the handling of the
trial itself, and now this absurd ending which will be thought to have got beyond our control
through some cowardice and unmanliness on our part, since we did not save you, or you save
yourself, when it was possible (45e 46e). This quote from the text Crito, written by Plato, directly
illustrates Crito s claim of feeling ashamed on Socrates behalf and on behalf of his friends, if what
happened was due to cowardice on their part. In order for us to be able to validate this argument
as persuasive or not, we must first take a look at the definitions of courage and manliness.
Plato more clearly discusses these attributes of courage and manliness in one of his other works,
Laches. In the Laches, Socrates engages two generals, Nicias and Laches, in conversation.
Laches first defines a man of courage as one who does not run away from an enemy. So if Crito
thought it was cowardly of Socrates to take his punishment instead of escaping that brings up a
major contradiction in Laches definition. As we know, Socrates decides to stay and face his
allegations in court, and eventually die, instead of attempting an escape. This makes him a man of
courage according to Laches first definition. But, sure enough, Socrates proceeds to dispute Laches
definition by saying that it does not cover all the examples of courage,

New Words Possimpible, Revertigo And Embiggen
Abstract
Aside from the closed grammar class, the open word class that consist of a large portion of the

Ben Netanyahu Essay
When I analyze the actions and character of a leader, I will begin analyzing the period in the
socio economic and security aspects. Ben Gurion s period is characterized by the threat of survival
for the State of Israel and the Jewish community of about 600 thousand people and a difficult
economic situation and lack of infrastructure both physical and spiritual. Benjamin Netanyahu s
term is characterized by a stronger Israel than a regional power, a developed economy, and existing
infrastructures.
In this essay I would like to estimate the differences between Ben Gurion and Netanyahu in two
aspects: statehood and the unification of the people.
In the first aspect, Ben Gurion s statehood is responsible for the establishment of the state s security

This was expressed in social laws and bodies, the unification of the various streams in education and
the establishment of state education.
In Netanyahu s time, he worked to dismantle socio economic solidarity through anti social laws,

Personality Test Research Paper
Personality test can offer a great deal of insight to someone. After taking the Myers Brigs test, I
have confirmed much of what I have thought about myself. My score is ISTJ. This stands for
introversion, sensing, thinking, and judging, which very accurately describes me. While it can
be challenging for personality test to fully understand someone with just a few questions, this
Myers Brigs test described me very well. I very strongly agree with the results I have received.
The first letter of my score is I, which stands for introversion. I have always been more of an
introvert than an extrovert. Alone time is something I have always had an appreciation for and
felt was necessary for my happiness. The next letter in my type stands for sensing. This means I
heavily rely on my five senses to take in information. The aspect of me can be seen in the way I
learn. I feel I learn best when doing hands on activities, which is consistent with sensing people.
The third letter in my type is T, which represents thinking. Like the other personally traits from this

Examples Of Female Oppression In The Yellow Wallpaper
Female Oppression in The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gillman s The Yellow Wallpaper
approaches some often overlooked topics in literature including how men and women interact
differently when it comes to serious situations such as how to help someone who is greatly
suffering from a mental affliction. The narrator of the text is Jane, and her husband John is
incidentally making her mental illness worse while he is in fact trying to help her get better.
John is not a bad person. He truly loves his wife and believes he is helping her. He is a doctor so
it is understandable that he would dismiss his wife s opinions and do what he assumes is best for
her. John represents the unintentional female oppression and male dominance and... Show more

Jane looks at him and declares, I ve got out at last in spite of you and Jane! And I ve pulled off
most of the paper, so you can t put me back! (86). At this point John fainted and Jane had to creep
over him (86). John becomes exactly what he is trying to prevent his wife from coming. He
viewed Jane s femininity as a weakness and tried to do everything in his power to make sure she
was rested and did not push herself too hard. Yet, John was the one who fainted, which is usually
considered a predominantly feminine trait. His fainting demonstrates the fragility of masculinity.
John ends up representing his own hidden femininity when he faints. It is often considered the
job of the man of the family to be strong and to protect the weaker sex. John s fainting ends up
proving that both men and women can experience high levels of distress when something
serious happens. John treats Jane like she is fragile and breakable, but it seems like he is just as
fragile and breakable, if not more so. Even though John ignores Jane when she tells him what she
thinks would be better for herself John is also denying himself the ability to show compassion to
his struggling wife. By treating his wife like she is unable to acknowledge her own needs John
becomes shocked when Jane descends into madness. If he had only listened

Uses of Enzymes in Industry
Uses of Enzymes in Dairy Products
Enzymes have been used in different processes in our daily lives. From dairy products to
medicine and saving lives. They are produced in different parts in of the body and do different
jobs. They are elements of life and without them, survival would have been be impossible. If one
enzyme in the body stops producing, it would have a huge impact on the whole body and its
functioning. One of the functions of enzymes is production of cheese through milk coagulation. It
will be explained in more details in this article. You need to add references for this I know it?s
obvious that you know it, but still add references ? e.g. lesson notes, textbook, ?

How Did Nationalism Affect Italian Unification
Nationalism: Might of Unity and Disunity Nationalism drives peoples of similar heritages and
dreams to take great pride in their own ethnic group or country. It brings new nations together and
destroys old one as a powerful and overwhelming force of both unity and disunity. Nationalism
especially had an effect on Italian unification, bringing the people to unite under three key leaders;
Mazzini, Cavour, and Garibaldi. While nationalism certainly brought Italians together, it spread far
past the peninsula and into the Austrian empire, where it broke the people apart. The Slavic groups
under the umbrella of Austria Hungary united themselves, dividing the empire and tearing it down.

Italy actually hadn t experienced true political unity since the Roman times, however, the
Napoleonic conquests gave the city states a taste of unity once more. Filled with Mazzini s words
of freedom, brotherhood, and unification, the Italian people grew in nationalistic ideals. But culture
wasn t the Italian states only similarity, they also shared a common enemy; Austria. To build
themselves a self governing state, nationalists had to defeat the mammoth foe. The area leading the

The Japanese Criminal Justice System
For some time now, the Japanese criminal justice system has been regarded or perceived to be a
successful justice system model. The success is mainly attributed to Japan s culture and even
embedded in the language itself (Goold, 2004). The success has drawn interest among criminology
scholars and practitioners either for the purpose of broadening their knowledge or to emulate its
criminal justicesystem (Ebbe, 2000). The interest is based on statistical data that indicate low
levels of criminality in the developed nation of Japan in comparison to others. From these statistics,
it would imply that Japan s way of dealing with crimeis more effective in its prevention. While the
statistic might be solid, the texts on the criminal system may... Show more content on

The benefits of this kind of success are sure to be present and for that matter welcomed. However,
I will also evaluate at what cost that this haven of peace comes about. Clear examples will
accompany any argument and statements as support of a claim.
The history of Japan s criminal justice system is important if one wishes to understand completely
how the system operates and borrow from it. Before the Second World War, Japan was mostly
isolated from the rest of the world except for some trading activities with Portugal. Due to this
Western or rather European, the influence in the country was minimal. Japan was, therefore, able to
retain some of its strong traditional legal systems despite incorporating some aspects from the
French, Chinese, and Americans.
However; after WWII, Japan was forced to adopt the American legal approaches to the constitution
and human rights due to the post war agreement that was signed (Reichel, 2002). The Japanese
however did not abandon their systems all together as they continued to use the informal ways of
conflict resolution through mediation, consensus, and compromise. The formal systems were then
used in combination with these. Aside from the informal procedures used by police and citizens to
resolve disputes, the Japanese system have a highly centralised and organised criminal justice
system (Dammer, Albanese, 2013). To Australian s it resembles something of a familiar system
with two national policing agencies, a hierarchical

centuries early, but did not see tactical use until the first Great War. In this paper I will discuss the
origin and types of blood agents. Hydrogen cyanide is the most effective of the blood agents and is
the most prominently used therefor we will discuss it in more detail. Blood agents make up a small

The term blood agent comes from World War I
, when most of the agents at the time produced
localized effects, cyanide when inhaled triggered systematic effects thought to be transported by
the blood, which coined the term blood agent. When in reality cyanide is any compound that
contains carbon and nitrogen with a triple bound. It inhibits enzymes inside the body by bonding
with the iron present in cells. This prevents intercellular oxygen utilization and causes the cells to
die. The heart and brain are affected the most because they require a lot of oxygen. The most
effective means of delivery is cyanide in confined spaces to capture the gas to prevent evaporation.
Cyanide is also present in human tissue in small amounts and the body natural metabolizes it
through enzyme in the urinary tract. This makes it unique among chemical agents because of its
practical rate of detox it requires a greater length of exposure.
If exposed to cyanide with in the first 15 seconds rapid breathing will begin and within 30 seconds
convulsions can begin. After two to three minutes respiratory activity stops, and cardiac activity
cease around six to eight minutes of inhalation at high concentrations. Small amounts result in
similar symptoms for example rapid breathing, restlessness, dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea,
and rapid heart rate. Small amounts rarely result in death. If exposed the best thing to

Factors And Effects Of Invasive Species
Introduction Invasive species have a serious effect on native wildlife, representing the second major
threat to biodiversity after the destruction of habitat (IUCN/SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group
(ISSG)). The introduction of alien species is mainly a consequence of past human actions,
especially after the 1950s when international trade increased. Besides the spread due to international
trade, invasive specieswere often introduced for aquaculture and sports purpose (Grosholz 1996;
Gozlan et al. 2010).
Non native species often outperforms indigenous species in their habitat directly by competitive
exclusion, niche displacement, high reproductive rate, predation, fewer natural enemies in the
new environment, long life span and their good dispersal (Manchester and Bullock, 2000; Cuda
et al, 2015; San Sebastian et al, 2015; GB non native species secretariat, 2017). Furthermore,
invasive species are more skilled predators and have a wide range of plasticity regarding food
consumption and shelter preferences (Gherardi and Acquistapac 2007; Olsson et al. 2009).
Frequently, introduced species are vectors of pathogens and parasites and in the past have caused
a rapid decline of native population due to their susceptibility to new disease (GB non native
species secretariat). Apart from the effect on biodiversity, non native species caused difficulties in
countries budget, where in the UK direct annual costs of invasive species are nearly ВЈ1.7 billion

I love God and I believe in the power of prayer. I was raised by a single mother who instilled a
great work ethic, morals and values that will carry me through life. She has taught me to believe
in myself and never let what others think or say about you define you. Life is about choices and
consequences and it is up to you to decide what choices will lead to the right consequences for
you. Growing up without a father who was there to support me was hurtful but I did not become
a victim to my circumstances. My mother taught me that God will remove people out of your
life who will mean you more harm than good. She and my grandmother taught me that
everything happens for a reason even though when it is happening you don t know or
understand why but eventually it will be revealed. I was taught that to get the things in life that

God never takes something away from you without giving you back something better in His
timing. There is a time and a place for everything and we must be patient and wait for our time.

Falstaff And King Henry As Father Figures In Henry IV Part 1
In Henry IV Part 1, although Falstaff and King Henry act as father figures in Hal s life and are
both intelligent in their own right, the differences in their tone and diction showcase the major
differences in their personalities and relationship with pride. Although King Henry and Falstaff
are extremely different characters, both do act as father figures in Hal s life with Falstaff as a
surrogate father and King Henry as Hal s birth father. With King Henry, this fatherly relationship
emerges as one of blindly scolding and ordering around his son, an example being when the King
criticizes Hal s friends, rude society (3.2.14). The relationship with Hal and his surrogate father,
Falstaff, though is much more relaxed with Falstaff teasing Hal, by touching on Hal s slight
insecurity of taking care of his princely duties, calling Hal true prince(2.4.106). Although both
these relationships are very different in how relaxed they are, there is a similarity of King Henry
and Falstaff acting as fatherly figures in Hal s life. Both characters are also extremely intelligent
in their own right. Falstaff often references mythical beings and makes intelligent metaphors, one
of these being when Falstaff says, thou knowest I am as valiant as Hercules (2.4.106). Along with
this reference to Hercules, being very intelligent for a man as lower class as Falstaff, it also shows
that Falstaff is prideful in a joking manner. Falstaff knows that he is not as valiant as Hercules,

Gender Binary Norms
As far as the technology determined gender difference is concerned, it is necessary to discuss how
bodies can be affected by the violence of technologies and knowledge. Drugs and technologies
participate in the materialisation of the binary sex. It is indubitable that the gender binary norm is
insufficient. The existence of intersexuality is an evidence that disrupts the heteronormative
concept of gender. For instance, 1 in 100 babies born with an anomaly of sex. and 1 in 1000 not
readily classifiable. (Chase, C. 1998) To a certain extent, sex can be reallocated through medication.
Thus, following the heteronormative rule, intersexuality as neither men nor women that against the

Oil towns started dying when the restaurants and stores have no more customers, because there
was no money. This could start a domino effect and cause an economic meltdown in states like
Texas, New Mexico, and North Dakota (Egan). This event was caused by the U.S. s dependence
on imported foreign oil, because when the U.S. imports more than half of the oil it uses on a
daily basis, someone else has the control over the economy. Energy dependence is not a new
problem but one that started in 1973 after the oil embargo. It was caused by the Arabian
government cutting off the oil and gas supply as a protest against the U.S. support for the Israel
in the war between Egypt and Syria (Myre). President Richard Nixon gave a speech claiming his
plan called Project Independence could produce enough energy needed in America and stop
importing oil and gas by 1980. Then in 1975, President Gerald Ford had a similar plan with a
deadline of 1985, and this was the cycle that lasted eight presidents so far. The deadline has now
been moved up to 2025, but now, the U.S. is in a hole more than ever before. In the 1970s,
imports only accounted for about 30% of all oil consumed. In 2010, imports account for 60% to
70% of all oil consumed. This problem has accelerated almost to the point of no return
(Gottesdiener). The idea of energy independence is that the U.S. would not import any oil or gas
from outside counties and produce all energy needs inside the U.S.

would not have had the opportunity to developed her own identity or raise her own voice .
Additionally, another example that implies that Kingston aunt had no voice is when the author
states, The work of preservation demands that the feelings playing about in one s guts not to be
turned into action. Just watch their passing like cherry blossoms (Kingston 8). This sentence can
be interpreted that a women s feelings and wishes were not allowed to be turned into reality or to
be expressed. On the contrary, their feelings and wishes were only allowed to be kept to their
selves as if

Computers in Athletics Computers have come a long way, from the initial invention. The
advancements that are being, and that have been made to this day are making an impact in almost
every field or profession, especially sports. Athletes are being removed from play more and more
frequently for injuries. With the development of wearable technology coaches are able to keep an
eye on their athletes more closely, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the advancements made, it is no longer exclusive to soccer.
Wearable Tech and Injuries The sport that wearable technology has made a very significant
impact on is American Football. Injuries, especially blows to the head are being tended to and
recognized earlier with the use of the devices. For example Reebok s CheckLight, is a skull cap
that works with sensors to capture head impact during play, by lighting up a certain color; green
indicates low impact, yellow indicates a moderate hit, and red denotes a very hard hit, meaning that
athlete needs to seek medical attention before returning to play (Wareable Pro, 2016).
This is extremely groundbreaking, because it is contributing the safety of the athletes. While the
CheckLight evaluates the severity of the blow, the highest concern for concussion severity is the
rate at which the head accelerates. Playing through concussions can put the athlete at a
dangerously increased threat of suffering long time effects, such as chronic traumatic
encephalopathy. CTE has been linked to depression, memory loss, dementia, and suicide, and
makes the brains of 45 year old athletes look like those of 90 year old Alzheimer s patients
(Katwala, 2017). This is why it is extremely important for athletes to be removed from play
immediately. In addition to head injury prevention, the wearable devices also aid in

Living Conditions In The Progressive Era
The Progressive movement that began in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s was an attempt to
bring about governmental reforms and to correct injustices in American life. Tired of the poor
working and living conditions, overcrowding of the cities, political corruption, and abuses by
industrialists, people took it upon themselves to try and create change. By using many forms of
the media, combined with organized protests, people exposed these issues and informed thousands
of Americans of the conditions that existed. Living conditions were poor, food safety was strictly
hazardous, and child labor played a big part in the Progressive era.
One key aspect that was discussed was living conditions in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s were
poor. Jacob ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Food safety in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s was hazardous, filthy, and unsanitary. The food
safety issue was not thoroughly recognized until Upton Sinclair published his book, The Jungle.
The publishing of The jungle was meant to open America s eyes to the situation of the workers in
the filthy, dangerous Chicago stockyards. Instead, it caused an outrage over the meat packaging.
Within the first few weeks of his book getting published, Theodore Roosevelt received many letters
from the public regarding that the meat packing industry should be more closely watched and
regulated. In Sinclair s book, he stated, there would be meat that had tumbled out on the floor, in
the dirt and sawdust, where the workers had tramped and spit... There would be meat stored in
great piles in rooms. This is showing that the meat was not properly taken care of and the
workers simply did not bother in trying to make it sanitary. Another piece of data that would
support this would be, a man could run his hand over these piles of meat and sweep off handfuls
of the dried dung of rats. and This was no fairy story and no joke; the meat would be shoveled
into carts, and the man who did the shoveling would not trouble to lift out a rat even if he saw one.
The workers would feel and see the dead rodents and not bother in attempting to do anything about

Analysis Of The Movie The Grand Parade
OILDORADO
MILLER, JEREMY
Last weekend in Taft, California, two hours north of Los Angeles, between the procession of
floats and marching bands, grown men in cowboy attire shot at one another with antique
revolvers, rifles and shotguns. The concussions rattled plate glass windows of stores along Center
Street, many of which stand vacant. As the men passed by, children rushed into the street to pick
up the spent cartridges, which they found mixed in with lollipops and pieces of gum. This is the
Grand Parade, the finale of Taft s Oildorado festival, an unbridled street party held every five years
to celebrate the region s patron industry oil.
A man on one float dressed as an oil smeared roughneck yelled, God bless Taft! and Made in
America! as he tipped a yellow hardhat toward the waving crowd. Another float ferried the Maids
of Petroleum, young beauty competition participants dressed in fishnet tights and Old West bustle
skirts. The competition winner, known as the Oil Queen, sat smiling in a white wicker throne
before a glittery cutout of a derrick gushing a rooster tail of crude.
Most associate the Central Valley with agriculture. But here in the dry southwestern corner of the
vast basin, oil is the undisputed king. The giant oil fields that envelop the town of 9,000 the
Midway Sunset, Cymric and Belridge are among the largest in the country, each having produced
over a billion barrels of oil. The landscape reflects that reality. Fields of pump jacks

Figurative Language In Casey At The Bat
The author, Ernest L. Thayer, of Casey at the Bat, uses humor to describe Casey s experiences.
He uses humor in the form of rhyming. He also uses humor in the form of figurative language. A
good bit of humor is shown through these forms of humor. The humor is described very well by
the author. Starting with figurative language, you find a hyperbole. The example is when one
person at the stand shouts, Kill him! Kill the umpire! It s hyperbole because he doesn t want him
to literally be killed. What makes it humorous is that some readers may find it funny for someone
to yell, Kill him, at a baseball game. The example for rhyming is when the stragglers thought about
betting on Casey. The author wrote, They thought, If only Casey could

Dust Jackets For The Niggerati
All Stories Are True: Visual Narrative and Revisionary History in the Artwork of Kara Walker In
the collection of essays titled Dust Jackets for the Niggerati (2013), Kevin Young s seminal
article Miss Pipi s Blue Tale details Kara Walker s work with the American Bureau of Freedmen,
Refugees, and abandoned Lands, the office that kept records of the displaced blacks after the
American Civil War, documenting the violent offenses enacted by whites upon blacks at that time.
Walker s exhibition Bureau of Refugees (2007), a series of silhouette collages in reds, greens, and
blacks, draws from these historical accounts not only to call attention to the atrocities of white
violence against black bodies, but also to reclaim and lend voice to a... Show more content on

What might it mean then, to be a refugee not from another country, but in one s very homeland?
(45). These questions are posed by what Young calls the refugee art of Kara Walker. As
displaced subjects, the characters in Walker s art take on a renewed sense of empowerment
even while falling victim to and participating in acts of violence and humiliation. This paper
seeks to explore issues of spectatorship and agency in the artwork of Kara Walker, taking into
special consideration the critical essays of Kevin Young in the catalogue My Complement, My
Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love (2007) and Dust Jackets for the Niggerati (2013) alongside a
full length study of the artist by Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw titled Seeing the Unspeakable: The Art
of Kara Walker (2004). Both authors discuss the revisionary history of Walker s visual narratives,
yet formulate conclusions from two very different frames of reference. While Young examines
Walker s art from various cultural and historical perspectives, Shaw s reading takes into account
the personal experiences that influence Walker s work. Much of Walker s art takes the form of
visual narrative, telling stories with images and words. The artist has said that the genre of
narrative allows her room to blend fact with fiction, creating new ways to negotiate past experience
and imagine the future. Walker takes ownership of the

The Pacific Campaign Of World War II
The Pacific Campaign of World War II showed an uncommon test for the United States. The
Americans were successful for some reasons including the commitment of US General Douglas
MacArthur and the Australian s effect on the war. Numerous Successful attributes identified
with the war were the Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Battle of Midway and The
Battle of Coral Sea. The Pacific Campaign for the US was initiated after the bombing of Pearl
Harbour which was done by the Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. The attack on Pearl
Harbour quickly aroused an isolated country without hesitation. Public opinion had been moving
towards support for entering the war amid 1941, however extensive resistance stayed until the
assault. Overnight, Americans joined the allies against Japan. American solidarity in the war
exertion most likely made the unconditional surrender position later taken by the Allied Powers.
Many Historians believed that this effort by the Japanese doomed them to defeat because they
had awoken the sleeping giants of the US. Once awoken the US were able to have an immense
impact on the pacific theatres. General Douglas MacArthur s impact on WWII: MacArthur was the
Chief of Staff of the United States Army amid the 1930s and assumed an unmistakable part in the
Pacific Campaign within World War II. After the Philippine fiasco, MacArthur started the long
crusade to crush Japanese military force in the pacific. Hampered in the early months by

  • 2. Diabolical Nature Of Work And Leisure In Human Life And Life In the Christian world and life view, both work and leisure are considered good things. Both come as gifts from God s hand and are rooted and discerned from the Lord s foundational act in creation. Yet these gracious endowments can be easily misused and become idols that wreak havoc in people s lives. The diabolical nature of sin is that it so enslaves people that they not only do bad things, but they also misuse good things. And Christians, though they are forgiven sinners through embracing Jesus Christ as Savior, nevertheless still struggle with sin s weighty power. Let s briefly explore how both work and leisure are justified as good things in light of God s work in creation. We ll then go on to reflect upon how such good things can be unfortunately misused in life. Made to Work It is interesting that upon his creation, Adam was almost immediately assigned to work by God (gardening: Genesis 2:15, zoology: Genesis 2:20). These assigned tasks in the Garden of Eden certainly came long before Adam fell into sin through rebellion against God. So it seems that human beings were created to work, and in a Christian context, to carry out one s discerned vocations before God and to earn one s living (Ephesians 4:28). Moreover, slothfulness and laziness are identified as serious character vices in the Bible (Proverbs 6:6 9, 13:4; 2 Thessalonians 3:10; 1 Timothy 5:8). So work and vocation can involve all occupations that are consistent with a Christian worldview. Made to Rest Leisure in the life of God s people is derived from what God did after creation. Upon creating the world, the sovereign Lord declared the creation good (Genesis 1:31) and rested from his work (Genesis 2:2). This period of rest (even apart from how one understands the controversial theological issue of the Sabbath1) and the goodness of the created order justifies the general idea of leisure as a divine mandate for humanity. Leisure involves a rest from work, but it should not be thought of as mere idleness. The activities of leisure should never be sinful in and of themselves, nor should they interfere with a believer s ultimate devotion to God (1 Corinthians 10:31, Colossians 3:23). Some Christian traditions have connected appropriate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The American Nurse Association ( Ana ) Code Of Ethics Healthcare organizations are committed to providing clients with quality service and experience while promoting safety, health, and healing. Nurses have the biggest impact in providing safe client care and are known for their commitment in improving or increasing client health. However, this ethical commitment may not always be met due to breakdowns in healthcare delivery. Deviations such as adoption of unsafe practices or behaviors can lead to sentinel events. Any disconnects or disruptions can be a detriment to client care. This paper will present recent cases of witnessed breakdowns of facility protocols that have led to adoptions of unsafe nursing practices, discuss its impact to healthcare, and how it has affected my personal perspective on the issue. Provision three of the American Nurse Association (ANA) Code of Ethics states that the nurse promotes, advocates for, and protects the rights, health, and safety of the patient. Within this standard, it specifies that nurses have a professional responsibility in promoting a culture of safety (American Nurse Association [ANA], 2015). As nursing students, we have the privilege of working with nurses in different departments during clinical rotations. Nursing students are able to observe the ethical application and inattention/negligence of this provision through the use of evidence based practice as well as unhealthy practices, respectively. However, this war was full of threats, especially the threat of using nuclear weapons. In order to have an accurate threat, the United States would continuously be building nuclear weapons in case this war reached that extent. Therefore, that s where the large cost came in, because, the United States was spending about thirty five billion dollars per year on the construction of nuclear weaponry. This approximately forty five year war was a constant worldwide clash between the Soviet Communism and the American capitalism. • 8. The Importance Of Human Rights-Based Environmental Rights Essentially, there are three avenues available when wishing to expand human rights based environmental protection. The first, as discussed above, is through the broadening of existing human rights to include environmental rights, as was done in the Lopez and Guerra cases. The second, is through the assertion of substantive environmental rights, an approach which has so far seen very little practice, and third through asserting procedural environmental rights . The third method has seen an increasing level of prevalence in recent years, most notably beginning with Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environmental Development, which provides Environmental issues are best handled with the participation of all concerned citizens, (...) each individual shall have appropriate access to information concerning the environment, (...) and the opportunity to participate in decision making processes. (...) Effective access to judicial and administrative proceedings, including redress and remedy, shall be provided. This Principle was the basis for the 1998 Aarhus Convention on Access too Information, Public Participation in Decision making and Access to Justice in environmental matters. The three pillars of the Aarhus Convention, Access to Information, Public participation in decision making, and access to justice, are strictly procedural in content . • 10. A Book About The Torment That This Young Man Had From The... Reading this extremely descriptive book about the torment that this young man had to go through is kind of like reading a diary entry that stemmed from a failed high school relationship. Except in this case, someone else is writing this story about heartbreak. The author digs deep into the feelings and the underlying meaning behind the story of this young manand it almost seems as though they are experimenting or gathering data. In fact, it states that they are an observer in this short drama. While this book is full of serious topics and it is very dense literature, it seems to portray some sort of farce. The story of the guy from the author s own point of view is way too dramatic for what it really is, but when taken seriously it shows us what he is going through. Life itself is a farce and we must live with some ethical reasoning and purpose, but sometimes we overanalyze a situation and we need God s guidance for keeping us in our track. The first part of the story describes what repetition and recollection is and why it is so important. It introduces us to the dilemma of a young man who cannot seem to understand his break up with his girlfriend, to put it simply. The second part describes how he deals and finds meaning in his struggles through the story of Job and how he learns to move on. In the beginning, we are informed about repetition and how we as people crave it so much. There is a difference between repetition and recollection. Repetition is experiencing the ... When one thinks about the country India the first thing that will come to their mind is their rich, colorful clothes and animals that are part of their culture. Most do not think of the literature in India, and how life is incorporated into their writing. A common theme throughout Indian literature is life, and literary elements were used to reveal themes throughout their writing. A themeof pain in the narrator s life was explained more to the reader through the use of personification, repetition, and irony. These literary elements make the narrator s pain become more prominent and have more of an impact on the reader. Personification appeared often throughout Faiz Ahmed Faiz s poems. There are places that have sentimental value to the narrator, and the reader can see this through repetition. [G]ate is still open and no gate opens the reader can tell that gates are have an important meaning to the narrator since they are repeated (Faiz 551 552). Also since the gate is repeated in a positive and a negative way, the reader can see the connection the narrator has with feeling pain and the gates. The relationship the narrator has can be explained through repetition. The pain is greater than the relationship, this night is the tree of pain, greater than you or me, and, this night, the tree of pain, vaster than you or me ( Faiz 552). Since the narrator refers to the, night, the tree of pain , could mean that the narrator has levels and parts of pain that are like branches of a tree. It also reveals what causes pain for the narrator. My tormenter, my love, be near me shows the reader the narrator had loved someone, but they left the narrator (Faiz 553 554). The pain will not be perfectly gone unless the person the narrator loves is with him. Along with personification and repetition the author used irony to show the theme of pain in the narrator. • 12. John Stuart Mill And Plato Throughout history, many philosophers have argued different ideas about government, but only a few have discussed women s roles in government and society. Two great thinkers John Stuart Mill and Plato, are apart of this small group of philosophers and have even been described as feminists. In this essay, I will discuss the ideas of Mill and Plato that have led to their feminist epithets and whether or not I think it is true. Mill is considered to be one of the earliest feminists in history because of his campaign for gender equality. In Mill s essay Subjection of Women , he argues strongly for women s rights, and gender equality, which are the main principles of feminism. In chapter 1, Mill challenges the idea that women are by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [149] This argument can be refuted by using Mill s natural argument. He states that What is now called the nature of women is an artificial thing the result of the forced repression in some directions, unnatural stimulation in others. [152] In other words Mill is stating that the subjection of women is something that has been ingrained in society for so long that is custom. Even the ones who are oppressed, which are women, in this case, will even start to believe it, (which is why they might prefer being housewives). Mill uses this argument to explain that custom is the reason for the subjection of women and not the so called natural differences. To conclude this point, Mill argued that the inequality of women was a relic from the past , and had no place in the modern world. [150] This supports the notion that he was, in fact, a feminist. He believed that women should be on an equal playing field with men and that having effectively half the human race unable to contribute to society is a hindrance to human development . [134] Even though Mill s ideas are important to feminist texts of the nineteenth century he still inspires feminists around the world even till this day. In Book V of The Republic Plato discusses his ideas about women s role in his ideal state. Plato feels that women should receive equal administrative occupations, including the rule of the city as well as its defense. Plato may be described as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Free Time Periods By Nathanial Hawthorne And Benjamin... Despite writing in different time periods, Nathanial Hawthorne and Benjamin Franklin both demonstrate strong opinions about democratic equality in America. Through his short stories, Hawthorne writes cautionary tales demonstrating the fear and confusion that Puritan characters have when they discover the sinfulness of others. Franklin writes about the inequality in America but gives the reader a method for overcoming this inequality and making the most out of oneself. While Franklin and Hawthorne both argue for democratic equality, there are important differences in their writings in the way to achieve equality. Throughout this paper, I will compare and contrast these two authors and then make the argument that Hawthorne s writings are more persuasive since they demonstrate the constant struggle between morality and individualism, a challenge that still exists in the 21st century. In Benjamin Franklin s Autobiography, he writes about his remarkable life and career, but also maps out how common folk can create their own success in America. Franklin lays out certain virtues that he believes people should cultivate if they want to improve themselves and create success from nothing, as he did. For example, I included under thirteen names of virtues all that at that time occurr d to me as necessary or desirable. He argues that it is not exceptional ability that cultivates success but a devotion to serving others and the discipline needed to pursue the virtues that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Students And Athletes Athletes Ambidexterity Amongst Students and Athletes MATH 141 (Prof. An) Final Project December 2015 Romeo Ardimento, Lorraine Jabouin, Christopher Kremer, Fiona Macleod Introduction /Background Being Ambidextrous can be quite useful; particularly for athletes and musicians. Many sports require the use of both hands, as do many instruments. For this reason our team decided to determine the difference in ambidexterity, if any, between people who are either athletes or musicians, and individuals who are not involved in either sports or music. We were interested in determining if the ability of participants to use their weak hand as well as their dominant hand is associated with participation in athletics or music. Does an individual s participation in either a sport or the fact that they play a musical instrument dictate how well they can use both hands? Methodology We decided that the best way to answer this question would be with a study. Our participants would be made up of 60 students. These participants would be made up of three equally divided identity groups. 20 athletes, 20 musicians, and 20 individuals who do not participate in sports or play an instrument (who from this point on will be referred to as the neither group). Those identified as athletes had to have had been on a Varsity team and those who were identified as musicians had to have been playing their instrument for more than two years. • 15. Contemporary Appretation Of Contemporary Interpretations... Contemporary Interpretations of Sacred Scripture: Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen. I would like to begin by extending a warm welcome to todays seminar that will dive into all things regarding religion and its place in a modern society. I will be solely focusing on a contemporary expression that shows similarities and differences to a sacred text of Christianity. So why is this of importance? The ever growing world we live in can often make it difficult for traditions to be maintained in community s due to their arguably outdated form and language. However, these values, messages and themes can be showcased and interpreted by viewers in modern expressions such as film, song and poetry. The animated 2008 film Wall E, directed by Andrew Stanton generally showcases the purpose of the story Adam and Eve. This is because of its ability to teach the concept of straying from Gods way of life and the negative impacts leading a greedy and consumerist lifestyle can have. The ways in which it showcases the ideas in both the parent and derivative text can be seen in the interpretations of the central message as well as the context and purpose of both pieces. The central message of Wall E and the story of Adamand Eve is very similar. The story of Adam and Eve reported in Genesis chapter two versus four until chapter three versus twenty four is commonly associated with the teaching of the original sin, fall and death as well as human s decision in following God s commands. • 18. How America Should Be Governed By Thomas Paine, George... Throughout the Late 18th century America was becoming their own independent nation. The new independent nation needed to set up a government to rule them. There were several discussions on how America would be governed. Many people had different ideas for America and yet some were similar. Thomas Paine, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton , James Madison, and Thomas Jeffersonall wrote their ideas on how America should set up their government. Some of these ideas were not used while some are still used today. Thomas Paine states his ideas for the government in his Common Sense written in 1776. Paine states that America should not have a king. The first king might be great but then ruling by divine right usually ends up with the people having terrible kings. Once a monarch is put into place it becomes extremely hard to remove. Today in America we still do not have kings which is very good for America. The democracy system that we have in place gives Americans many rights and overall good country to live in unlike 3rd world countries. Paine brings up the point that most subjects under a king do not revolt do to fear and superstition. This made me wonder why they would fear. The subjects would outnumber the royalty and their guards if they would all stand together. Paine stated that we should break all connection with Britain and only be trading partners instead of allies. This did not come true. America to this day is allies with Britain. In 1940, Ludwig and Struthers published first research paper on ultrasound. It was the first pulse echo mode ultrasound for the detection of gallstones in animal tissues. Howry and Bliss, in 1950 were succeeded in analyzing and depicting the anatomic details of an organ in water bath using B mode technology. Ultrasound (US) is most widely used diagnostic modality which is cheap as compared to other imaging modalities. Some of its advantages include non ionizing radiations, real time data availability, large scalable imaging depth, portability and cost effectiveness. A highly advanced ultrasound came to a stagnant phase when its hardware was improved along with its software and algorithms. So, the only place to expand the scope was imaging at cellular and molecular scale. In the United States, these groups are active in most metropolitan areas that have a large Chinese population, and typically keep their activities limited to those areas. Within these areas they are often responsible for heroin and methamphetamine trafficking, human trafficking and intimidation/protection practices. While documented triad activity in the United Statesreached a peak in the 1990s, it is not clear if activity has truly been curbed or if the nature of privacy within the Chinese subculture is preventing the threat from being properly documented. Although Triads are active within the United States, their involvement in allied states poses an additional threat to U.S. security and its interests. Background: The history of Chinese Triads within the United States is closely linked with the history of Chinese and Hong Kong based triads. When I got there I went straight to The Ancient World exhibit to find a piece of artwork that I found fascinating. The moment I took a step through those giant glass doors, I saw the Colossal Statue of King Menkaura. This vast piece of artwork had so much history and detail from one particular era, it was almost breathtaking. As I continued on through The Ancient World exhibit there were many works of art that stood out to me. However it wasn t until I reached the Greek Mythologyportion of the museum when I really found the piece that literally made me gasp. The sculptureof Cupid (Eros) was exactly the type of artwork I was hoping to discover. The sculpture of Cupid (Eros) was simple, yet it also had a complex composition to it. The Colossal Statue of King Menkaura was built around 2,490 B.C and is the largest statue from the pyramid age. This piece of artwork fits into the category of an An image or object related to a ruler, whether king, queen, emperor or other . Questions 15 October 2014 The fact that [Socrates ] trial came to court when it need not have done so, the handling of the trial itself, and now this absurd ending which will be thought to have got beyond our control through some cowardice and unmanliness on our part, since we did not save you, or you save yourself, when it was possible (45e 46e). This quote from the text Crito, written by Plato, directly illustrates Crito s claim of feeling ashamed on Socrates behalf and on behalf of his friends, if what happened was due to cowardice on their part. In order for us to be able to validate this argument as persuasive or not, we must first take a look at the definitions of courage and manliness. Plato more clearly discusses these attributes of courage and manliness in one of his other works, Laches. In the Laches, Socrates engages two generals, Nicias and Laches, in conversation. Laches first defines a man of courage as one who does not run away from an enemy. So if Crito thought it was cowardly of Socrates to take his punishment instead of escaping that brings up a major contradiction in Laches definition. As we know, Socrates decides to stay and face his allegations in court, and eventually die, instead of attempting an escape. This makes him a man of courage according to Laches first definition. But, sure enough, Socrates proceeds to dispute Laches definition by saying that it does not cover all the examples of courage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He viewed Jane s femininity as a weakness and tried to do everything in his power to make sure she was rested and did not push herself too hard. Yet, John was the one who fainted, which is usually considered a predominantly feminine trait. His fainting demonstrates the fragility of masculinity. John ends up representing his own hidden femininity when he faints. It is often considered the job of the man of the family to be strong and to protect the weaker sex. John s fainting ends up proving that both men and women can experience high levels of distress when something serious happens. Before the Second World War, Japan was mostly isolated from the rest of the world except for some trading activities with Portugal. Due to this Western or rather European, the influence in the country was minimal. Japan was, therefore, able to retain some of its strong traditional legal systems despite incorporating some aspects from the French, Chinese, and Americans. However; after WWII, Japan was forced to adopt the American legal approaches to the constitution and human rights due to the post war agreement that was signed (Reichel, 2002). The Japanese however did not abandon their systems all together as they continued to use the informal ways of conflict resolution through mediation, consensus, and compromise. The formal systems were then used in combination with these. The term blood agent comes from World War I , when most of the agents at the time produced localized effects, cyanide when inhaled triggered systematic effects thought to be transported by the blood, which coined the term blood agent. When in reality cyanide is any compound that contains carbon and nitrogen with a triple bound. It inhibits enzymes inside the body by bonding with the iron present in cells. This prevents intercellular oxygen utilization and causes the cells to die. The heart and brain are affected the most because they require a lot of oxygen. The most effective means of delivery is cyanide in confined spaces to capture the gas to prevent evaporation. Cyanide is also present in human tissue in small amounts and the body natural metabolizes it through enzyme in the urinary tract. This makes it unique among chemical agents because of its practical rate of detox it requires a greater length of exposure. • 33. Factors And Effects Of Invasive Species Introduction Invasive species have a serious effect on native wildlife, representing the second major threat to biodiversity after the destruction of habitat (IUCN/SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG)). The introduction of alien species is mainly a consequence of past human actions, especially after the 1950s when international trade increased. Besides the spread due to international trade, invasive specieswere often introduced for aquaculture and sports purpose (Grosholz 1996; Gozlan et al. 2010). Non native species often outperforms indigenous species in their habitat directly by competitive exclusion, niche displacement, high reproductive rate, predation, fewer natural enemies in the new environment, long life span and their good dispersal (Manchester and Bullock, 2000; Cuda et al, 2015; San Sebastian et al, 2015; GB non native species secretariat, 2017). Furthermore, invasive species are more skilled predators and have a wide range of plasticity regarding food consumption and shelter preferences (Gherardi and Acquistapac 2007; Olsson et al. 2009). Frequently, introduced species are vectors of pathogens and parasites and in the past have caused a rapid decline of native population due to their susceptibility to new disease (GB non native species secretariat). Falstaff And King Henry As Father Figures In Henry IV Part 1 In Henry IV Part 1, although Falstaff and King Henry act as father figures in Hal s life and are both intelligent in their own right, the differences in their tone and diction showcase the major differences in their personalities and relationship with pride. Although King Henry and Falstaff are extremely different characters, both do act as father figures in Hal s life with Falstaff as a surrogate father and King Henry as Hal s birth father. With King Henry, this fatherly relationship emerges as one of blindly scolding and ordering around his son, an example being when the King criticizes Hal s friends, rude society (3.2.14). After so many years of being subjected by other people, she finally took her life into her own hands and made an attempt to be happy. According to the book, this woman gave birth to a baby which was a symbol of embarrassment and humiliation not only for the villagers but for all the family. Even though this baby did not have any notion of what was going on, she was still a victim of Chinese norms. This baby also became forgotten being that she was not given the opportunity to be alive. Kingston s aunt decision of killing the baby, had to do greatly with the fact that she was girl. As the book states it was probably a girl; there is some hope for forgiveness for boys . Without any doubt, if the baby was given the opportunity to live she would have been mistreated and condemned all her life. She would not have had the opportunity to developed her own identity or raise her own voice . Additionally, another example that implies that Kingston aunt had no voice is when the author states, The work of preservation demands that the feelings playing about in one s guts not to be turned into action. Just watch their passing like cherry blossoms (Kingston 8). This sentence can be interpreted that a women s feelings and wishes were not allowed to be turned into reality or to be expressed. On the contrary, their feelings and wishes were only allowed to be kept to their selves as if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wearable Tech and Injuries The sport that wearable technology has made a very significant impact on is American Football. Injuries, especially blows to the head are being tended to and recognized earlier with the use of the devices. For example Reebok s CheckLight, is a skull cap that works with sensors to capture head impact during play, by lighting up a certain color; green indicates low impact, yellow indicates a moderate hit, and red denotes a very hard hit, meaning that athlete needs to seek medical attention before returning to play (Wareable Pro, 2016). This is extremely groundbreaking, because it is contributing the safety of the athletes. While the CheckLight evaluates the severity of the blow, the highest concern for concussion severity is the rate at which the head accelerates. Playing through concussions can put the athlete at a dangerously increased threat of suffering long time effects, such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy. CTE has been linked to depression, memory loss, dementia, and suicide, and makes the brains of 45 year old athletes look like those of 90 year old Alzheimer s patients (Katwala, 2017). This is why it is extremely important for athletes to be removed from play immediately. In addition to head injury prevention, the wearable devices also aid in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Food safety in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s was hazardous, filthy, and unsanitary. The food safety issue was not thoroughly recognized until Upton Sinclair published his book, The Jungle. The publishing of The jungle was meant to open America s eyes to the situation of the workers in the filthy, dangerous Chicago stockyards. Instead, it caused an outrage over the meat packaging. Within the first few weeks of his book getting published, Theodore Roosevelt received many letters from the public regarding that the meat packing industry should be more closely watched and regulated. In Sinclair s book, he stated, there would be meat that had tumbled out on the floor, in the dirt and sawdust, where the workers had tramped and spit... There would be meat stored in great piles in rooms. This is showing that the meat was not properly taken care of and the workers simply did not bother in trying to make it sanitary. Another piece of data that would support this would be, a man could run his hand over these piles of meat and sweep off handfuls of the dried dung of rats. and This was no fairy story and no joke; the meat would be shoveled into carts, and the man who did the shoveling would not trouble to lift out a rat even if he saw one. • 44. Analysis Of The Movie The Grand Parade OILDORADO MILLER, JEREMY Last weekend in Taft, California, two hours north of Los Angeles, between the procession of floats and marching bands, grown men in cowboy attire shot at one another with antique revolvers, rifles and shotguns. The concussions rattled plate glass windows of stores along Center Street, many of which stand vacant. As the men passed by, children rushed into the street to pick up the spent cartridges, which they found mixed in with lollipops and pieces of gum. This is the Grand Parade, the finale of Taft s Oildorado festival, an unbridled street party held every five years to celebrate the region s patron industry oil. A man on one float dressed as an oil smeared roughneck yelled, God bless Taft! and Made in America! as he tipped a yellow hardhat toward the waving crowd. Another float ferried the Maids of Petroleum, young beauty competition participants dressed in fishnet tights and Old West bustle skirts. The competition winner, known as the Oil Queen, sat smiling in a white wicker throne before a glittery cutout of a derrick gushing a rooster tail of crude. Most associate the Central Valley with agriculture. But here in the dry southwestern corner of the vast basin, oil is the undisputed king. The giant oil fields that envelop the town of 9,000 the Midway Sunset, Cymric and Belridge are among the largest in the country, each having produced over a billion barrels of oil. The landscape reflects that reality. Fields of pump jacks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s hyperbole because he doesn t want him to literally be killed. What makes it humorous is that some readers may find it funny for someone to yell, Kill him, at a baseball game. Dust Jackets For The Niggerati All Stories Are True: Visual Narrative and Revisionary History in the Artwork of Kara Walker In the collection of essays titled Dust Jackets for the Niggerati (2013), Kevin Young s seminal article Miss Pipi s Blue Tale details Kara Walker s work with the American Bureau of Freedmen, Refugees, and abandoned Lands, the office that kept records of the displaced blacks after the American Civil War, documenting the violent offenses enacted by whites upon blacks at that time. Walker s exhibition Bureau of Refugees (2007), a series of silhouette collages in reds, greens, and blacks, draws from these historical accounts not only to call attention to the atrocities of white violence against black bodies, but also to reclaim and lend voice to a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What might it mean then, to be a refugee not from another country, but in one s very homeland? (45). These questions are posed by what Young calls the refugee art of Kara Walker. As displaced subjects, the characters in Walker s art take on a renewed sense of empowerment even while falling victim to and participating in acts of violence and humiliation. This paper seeks to explore issues of spectatorship and agency in the artwork of Kara Walker, taking into special consideration the critical essays of Kevin Young in the catalogue My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love (2007) and Dust Jackets for the Niggerati (2013) alongside a full length study of the artist by Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw titled Seeing the Unspeakable: The Art of Kara Walker (2004). Both authors discuss the revisionary history of Walker s visual narratives, yet formulate conclusions from two very different frames of reference. While Young examines Walker s art from various cultural and historical perspectives, Shaw s reading takes into account the personal experiences that influence Walker s work. Much of Walker s art takes the form of visual narrative, telling stories with images and words. The artist has said that the genre of narrative allows her room to blend fact with fiction, creating new ways to negotiate past experience and imagine the future. Walker takes ownership of the ...
