Preposition
• A word or words which show relationship between
noun or pronoun is called preposition.
• Example:
• On
• Of
• In
• Under etc
• The cat is under the table.
Preposition Noun
• The school is near the park.
Preposition Noun
Preposition for place
• These prepositions are used to show place.
• e.g. in, on, at, etc
I work in a hospital.
They are on the hills.
I’m at the bus-stop.
Preposition for direction
• These prepositions show direction.
e.g. to, towards, into, through etc.
They were going towards the east.
The train passed through the tunnel.
Preposition for agent
• e.g. by
• The match is won by Pakistan.
• This glass is broken by Ali.
Preposition for device, instrument
or machines
• e.g. on, by, with, etc.
• We work on computer.
• We see far thing by a telescope.
Prepositional verbs
• These prepositions are used with verbs.
e.g. look at, look after, laugh at, take up, get up etc
• They are also called Phrasal Verbs.
Preposition for time
• These prepositions are used for showing time.
• e.g. in, on, at, etc.
• He comes here on Monday.
• We have our breakfast at 7 o’clock.
• They go to picnic in summer vacations.

The preposition

  • 2. Preposition • A word or words which show relationship between noun or pronoun is called preposition. • Example: • On • Of • In • Under etc
  • 3. • The cat is under the table. Preposition Noun • The school is near the park. Preposition Noun
  • 4. Preposition for place • These prepositions are used to show place. • e.g. in, on, at, etc I work in a hospital. They are on the hills. I’m at the bus-stop.
  • 5. Preposition for direction • These prepositions show direction. e.g. to, towards, into, through etc. They were going towards the east. The train passed through the tunnel.
  • 6. Preposition for agent • e.g. by • The match is won by Pakistan. • This glass is broken by Ali.
  • 7. Preposition for device, instrument or machines • e.g. on, by, with, etc. • We work on computer. • We see far thing by a telescope.
  • 8. Prepositional verbs • These prepositions are used with verbs. e.g. look at, look after, laugh at, take up, get up etc • They are also called Phrasal Verbs.
  • 9. Preposition for time • These prepositions are used for showing time. • e.g. in, on, at, etc. • He comes here on Monday. • We have our breakfast at 7 o’clock. • They go to picnic in summer vacations.
