Today we are going to discuss how to benefit. Because the Bible does not clearly explain what benefit is and how it can be benefited, so we have to study what benefit is from the perspective of various scriptures, but we can see from the lines that benefit is actually to let Jesus Christ In this process, practicing the Way is a necessary condition, because only in this way can we fulfill all the requirements of God.

Today we are going to talk about a very basic question, what is a church, and how can we see as being in a church? When we drive on the street, we often see church buildings one after another in the city. But is this the church mentioned in the Bible? What else should be in the church? We often see young people no longer go to church after they leave their parents. Parents often worry about their spiritual condition and whether they believe in Jesus Christ can be passed on. We will discuss this issue from the perspective of the Bible.
In this lesson we examine a prophecy of Isaiah of a new name! We see what name God has given His children and what we should call ourselves. Both audio and slides can be enjoyed together at www.cmcoc.org Sermon by: Brian Birdow

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

(Ephesians 4:12-15). To help Christians to "to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ." So that "we are no longer...tossed here and
there...by every wind of doctrine." They may be downloaded and modified free of charge.
Matthew 10:8 …Freely you received, freely give.
4. Romans 8:1, No Condemnation
• NAU Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for
those who are in Christ Jesus.
• NJB Romans 8:1 Thus, condemnation will never come to those
who are in Christ Jesus,
• Our sins have been forgiven and are continually being forgiven
and forgotten.
Christians do not have to hang our head, we can lift up our heads
and rejoice over what Jesus Christ accomplished.
• NAU Colossians 2:13 When you were dead in your
transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made
you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our
transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt
consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He
has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
• What a wonderful Savior!
5. Romans 8:1, “in Christ"
• NAU Romans 8:1…those who are in Christ Jesus.
• Paul’s theology summarized in 2 words
• Unique to Paul, used 90 X’s by Paul alone (Acts 24:24 is about
him)
• NAU John 14:17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world
cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but
you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
• NAU John 14:20 "In that day you will know that I am in My
Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
• NAU John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone
loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him,
and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

dwight/
• In Christ
• J. Dwight Pentecost on August 27, 2010 in DTS Chapel
• Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, distinguished professor emeritus
of Bible Exposition, reflects on the Apostle Paul's theology
of what it means to be "in Christ”.
• “We Have 'NOT' Been Made Righteous, But 'DECLARED'
Righteous! Never Seen By the Father Apart From The Son!
"In Christ"! Our Destiny Has Already Been Accomplished!”
by Donald Ray Henry

7. Romans 8:1, “in Christ”
• NAU Romans 8:1… no condemnation … in Christ Jesus.
• The phrases “in Christ”, “in Christ Jesus”, “in Jesus”, “in Him” are used
hundreds of times in the New Testament. However the unique use of it to
describe our position in Christ is almost unique to Paul.
• Jesus prayed in John 17:21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are
in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe
that You sent Me.
• NAU Romans 6:11… alive to God in Christ Jesus.
• NAU 1 Thessalonians 2:14 …. the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in
Judea… [our geographical location is secondary]
• Our position “in Christ” is a very strong plank in our belief of the internal
security of everyone who has received the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Would the Father allow the body of Christ to slip through his fingers and fall
into hell forever? How about the bride of Christ, to whom He has promised
eternal life? How about His church?
• NAU Matthew 16:18…I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not 7
8. “in Christ”
• If God has placed you “in Christ”, and God does not make
mistakes, and it is not possible for you to have placed
yourself “in Christ,” then how safe are those who have
trusted in Christ?
• NAU Luke 15:4 "What man among you, if he has a hundred
sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-
nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost
until he finds it?
• NAU John 6:39 "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of
all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the
last day.
• The Father gave believers to the Son. Is the Son able to keep
them? 8
9. “in Christ” and He is able
• NAU Jude 1:24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from
stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His
glory blameless with great joy,
• 2 Timothy 1:12 For this reason I also suffer these things,
but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed
and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have
entrusted to Him until that day.
• Philippians 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that
He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the
day of Christ Jesus.
• Romans 14:4…the Lord is able to make him stand.
• Ephesians 3:20, Galatians 3:3, 1 Thessalonians 5:24, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22,
Philippians 1:6, 3:20 -21, 2 Timothy 1:12, Hebrews 7:25, Jude 1:1, Rom 8:1
10. “in Christ”
• Dr. Dwight J. Pentecost says that Paul's entire
theological System rests on the phrase “in Christ.”
• “In Christ by J. Dwight Pentecost on August 27, 2010 in
DTS Chapel
• Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, distinguished professor
emeritus of Bible Exposition, reflects on the Apostle
Paul's theology of what it means to be "in Christ”…”

11. Romans 8:2, The Law Of Christ
• NAU Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
• NAU 1 Corinthians 9:21 to those who are without law, as
without law, though not being without the law of God but
under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are
without law.
• NAU Galatians 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and thereby
fulfill the law of Christ.
• NAU Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for
righteousness to everyone who believes.
• NAU Galatians 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking
to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Romans 6:14 . . . you are
not under law, but under grace; John 1:17 . . . the law was given through
Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ;
12. Romans 8:2+21,
Our Freedom In Christ
• Remember our freedom in Christ;
• NAU 1 Corinthians 10:23 + 6:12, All things are
lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All
things are lawful for me, but I will not be
mastered by anything.
• NAU Galatians 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ
set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do
not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
• Galatians 5:1+13, Romans 7:24, 8:2+21, 1 Peter
2:16, 2 Peter 2:18-22
12
13. Romans 8:4, No Fleshly Walking
• NAU Romans 8:4 so that the requirement of the Law might be
fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but
according to the Spirit.
• Galatians 5:16-25… But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not
carry out the desire of the flesh….
• Ephesians 2:10, 5:2-15, 4:1-17… walk in a manner worthy of the
calling with which you have been called…
• Colossians 2:6, 1:9-13…walk in a manner worthy of the Lord…
• 1 Thessalonians 2:11…walk in a manner worthy of the God who
calls you…
• 1 John 2:6 …walk in the same manner as He walked.
• Philippians 3:15-20, 1 Thessalonians 4:1
15. Romans 8:8, Please God
• NAU Romans 8:8 and those who are in the flesh cannot
please God. 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in
the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But
if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not
belong to Him.
• NAU 1 Thessalonians 4:1 Finally then, brethren, we
request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you
received from us instruction as to how you ought to
walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that
you excel still more.
• Vance Havner has said, “A deep and sober daily concern
to please God is the rarest of rarities.”
17. Romans 8:9, “God dwells in you”
• NAU Romans 8:9 However, you are not in the flesh but
in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.
But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does
not belong to Him.
• The apostle Paul refers to this concept of God dwelling
“in you” more than any other Bible writer. About 33
times.
• I'm sure glad the Scriptures make this point abundantly
clear, because I struggle with the idea of infinite Deity
indwelling a sinner like me.
18. Romans 8:9, The Holy Spirit
• http://compass.org/ …“Is there a verse in the Bible explicitly
promising the gift of the Holy Spirit to those at the "moment" they
trust Jesus as their Lord and Savior and believe? Or does the Spirit
come to live in a believer at some later, undefined time after
conversion?
ANSWER:
• The Holy Spirit comes to live permanently in a believer at the exact
time of conversion. . . . if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he
does not belong to Him. —Romans 8:9 While Peter was still speaking
these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to
the message. —Acts 10:44
• And receiving the Holy Spirit is permanent. . . . the Holy Spirit of God,
by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. —
Ephesians 4:30, I will ask the Father, and He will give you another
Helper (Spirit), that He may be with you forever. —John 14:16
• Remember, you are saved by grace, not by works… So nothing you do
can separate you from God. …Romans 8:38-39”

and in three days I will raise it up.“20 The Jews then said,
"It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You
raise it up in three days?" 21 But He was speaking of the
temple of His body. 22 So when He was raised from the
dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they
believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had
spoken.

(1871-1952, American Bible teacher,
evangelist, educator, and writer)
25. Romans 8:14
“led by the Spirit”
• NAU Romans 8:14 …being led by the Spirit…

26. Romans 8:14
“led by the Spirit”
• NAU Galatians 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under
the Law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are:
immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife,
jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions 21
envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I
forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice
such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now
those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its
passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the
Spirit. 26 Let us not become boastful, challenging one another,
envying one another.
26
27. Romans 8:14
Not “led by the Spirit”

gospel… 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself
as an angel of light.

• “For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the
Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because
those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. - Romans 8:13-14
• Joshua and Caleb are described in Scripture as men who had a different
spirit. They were two of the 12 spies sent into the Promised Land to
determine if it could be taken, as God had promised it to them. The other
ten gave a bad report that instilled fear in the people, which ultimately
caused a rebellion. This resulted in an entire generation dying in the
desert. Joshua and Caleb were the only two who were led by the Spirit of
God, versus the spirit of fear. They were the only ones to enter the
Promised Land from their generation.
• Are you a person led by the Spirit? The verse above tells us that those who
are led by the Spirit are sons of God…”

• Caleb has a different spirit and follows Me wholeheartedly, I will bring
him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it" (Num.
14:24). Caleb was a Romans 8:14 man! The Spirit led him. He was not
led by fear.
• Many of us have failed to enter into our own Promised Land because we
have failed to be led by the Spirit rather than by fear. Fear prevents us
from entering into what God has promised for each of us. God has
reserved an inheritance for us that is exceedingly good. God described
the Promised Land as a land of milk and honey. Our own Promised Land
is the same. But you must be led by the Spirit to enter in. You cannot be
led by fear, reason and analysis, or even skill. The Spirit must lead you.
• Commit yourself to being a Romans 8:14 man or woman. Then you will
enter into the land God has promised for you.
31. Rom. 8:15-16, Is God My Friend?
gracethrufaith.com
• Q. This question was derived from watching a video on Youtube. The
speaker frightened me by saying that “God is not your good buddy, he is
not your friend”. After I watched this video I felt like I lost my only true
friend, and it made me feel like I’ve shamed God by praying to him as
my friend as well as my Lord…
• A. One of the advantages of the Internet is that it gives us access to a
much wider variety of information than ever before. But it requires that
we have a stronger foundation of belief so we can discern what the
Bible teaches from something that’s just someone’s opinion. Otherwise
we risk becoming hopelessly confused. In Acts 17:11 Paul commended
the Bereans for searching the scriptures daily to prove that what he was
teaching them was the truth. If you do that in this case you’ll find that
God has given us the authority to become His children, (John 1:12) and
to call Him our Father (Gal. 4:6). You’ll find that Jesus called us His
friends (John 15:12-15) and that God says we’re not to fear Him (Rom.
8:15-16). And you’ll conclude that while it’s right to respect God, it’s
also right to think of Him as a friend and to desire a close and personal
relationship with Him.

32. Romans 8:17, Heirs
• NAU Romans 8:17 and if children, heirs also,
heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if
indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also
be glorified with Him.
• Joy Dawson said, “To have a nodding
acquaintance with the Creator of the universe
is no small thought. But to be on intimate
terms with Him is enough to give us heart
flutters for the rest of our lives.”
36. Romans 8:18
Heaven Is Beyond Your Expectations
• No matter what we suffer while we're here on earth, in enemy
territory, that is under the devil, our future is promised to be better.
Keep your hopes, dreams, and aspirations, on your eternal destiny.
• NAU Romans 7:25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!…
• NAU James 1:2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter
various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces
endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may
be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
• NAU Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter
of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising
the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3
For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against
Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart. 4 You have
not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against
sin;
In Christ
