Akbar the great
Akbar the Great was the third Mughal emperor who ruled from 1556 to 1605. He succeeded his father Humayun at a young age under a regent. Akbar faced challenges consolidating power due to instability within the empire but succeeded through military campaigns and alliances. He established centralized administration and policies of religious tolerance. Akbar made major cultural and architectural contributions, building Fatehpur Sikri and the Agra and Red Forts.

Babur • Babur was founder of Mughal Empire in India • He started the empire in 1526 • He fought battles like the First of Panipat in 1526 CE, The Battle of Khanua in 1527 CE, The Battle of Mewar in 1528 CE and The Battle of Ghagra in 1529 CE • He was controlling the empire from Kabul to present-day Bihar • But he died in 1530 CE, only lasting 3 years 3 4

Humayun • Humayun ascended the throne in 1530 CE, Babur left a very large empire to Humayun, his eldest son • Though he was left a very large empire, he couldn’t control it as he was an inexperienced ruler • He was kicked out by Sher Shah Suri, who control the Empire • He arrived at 1555, to take his rule back, and he succeded • But he died from a stairfall, fracturing his skull 4 5

Akbar • When Humayun was in exile, his son Akbar was born there • He was made ruler at 13, with the guidance of Bairam Khan • He followed many policy including religious policy, removal of Jaziya, following of Mansabdari System and Dashala System • He built Buland Darwaza at Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort and Many more • He had navratnas such as Abul Fazl, Birbal, Mian Tansen, Todar Mal and Man Singh 5 6

Jahangir • Prince Salim, the eldest son of Akbar, ascended the throne at 1605, after the death of Akbar • He had to control his rebellious son, Khusrau, and when Guru Arjan Dev helped him, he executed Arjan Dev • During his rule, many foreign influences arrived. King James I of Britain asked Jahangir to allow trade. So, Captain Hawkins earned Jahangir’s goodwill and stayed as mansabdar. • He married Nur Jahan. She exerted her authority, and appointed her favorites and relatives to many important position • He wrote Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri, his autobiography. In 1622 CE, his health declined. His son, Shah Jahan, ruled the empire 6 7
- 8. Shah Jahan • Shah Jahan ascended the throne in 1628 CE • He led many campaign like against Mewar, Kangra and Deccan kingdom. He sent Aurangzeb to capture Bundelkhand • He married Mumtaz Mahal, Nur Jahan’s niece. When she died, he built Taj Mahal for her. It took 22 years to built it • He brought the Mansabdari System and managed to cut the rates of mansabdars and insisted on definite troops from them • He was succeeded by Aurangzeb, who made his father a prisoner, he died in 1664 7 8

Aurangzeb • Aurangzeb ruled almost 50 years, and he was busy in war • He didn’t believed in religious policy, and he restored the Jaziya policy, it led to many conflicts • He faced many challenges from Sikhs, Marathas and many more • He was a cunning ruler. He didn’t indulged in any food, drink or dress that were prohibited in Quran. Ritual prayers, and fasting were strictly followed. But his ability as general declined 8 9
