The Mousterian industry refers to a style of predominantly flint toolmaking associated with Neanderthals between 300,000 and 30,000 years ago in Europe and West Asia. It combines techniques from the Acheulian and Levalloisian industries, involving premade cores and flake tools with sharpened edges that were more efficient to use. Evidence of this industry has also been found in Northern Africa and West Asia dating back 100,000 years, suggesting possible acculturation between Neanderthals and modern humans migrating out of Africa.
