The document discusses learning activities for orienting oneself and exploring online communities. It begins with a quote that the map is not the territory, meaning one should explore beyond what is presented. It then lists activities like orienting yourself, looking and listening, lurking and mingling to develop an online presence and voice. The document provides some examples of online community elements like blogs, profiles, and discussion boards. It stresses that the slideshow itself is not a full representation and encourages exploring further.

This presentation outlines the public response to youth sexting as a cultural phenomenon, including its construction as an act of deviance and promotion of abstinence to 'protect' young people. The presentation then outlines young people's perceptions and practices surrounding youth sexting, and explores moving away from abstinence and victim blaming narratives to focus on privacy and consent.

Stereotypes
Stereotyping is any commonly known public belief about a certain social group or individual. They are often confused with prejudices because like prejudices a stereotype is simply based on a prior assumption. There are many different types of stereotypes such as race, gender and lifestyle. Stereotypes are not easy for individuals to deal with because at times others say and do things that are extremely harsh. These stereotypes can affect individuals in many ways if they donât know how to overcome what others say.
I have gone through a lot of stereotypes in my time, but one that is most common is my race. I am Puerto Rican, African American, and Italian. When people here that I am Puerto Rican, African American, and Italian they ask if I like to drink. They say that people in these races are usually heavy drinkers. They are surprised to know that I donât drink and at times I get asked whatâs wrong with me and I reply nothing. Another stereotype I here is âDo you have family members in the Mafia?â No, I donât have family members in the Mafia. Just because someone is Italian it doesnât mean that they are nor have family members that are a part of the Mafia. Another stereotype I have had to deal with because of my race is âDo you have members of your family that are in jail?â Once again no I donât and I just brush it off. Lastly, the one I hear a lot is that Puerto Ricans are uneducated lazy people and have a lot of kids with different individuals. I obviously am an educated individual. I have gone to work to come home to three beautiful children all from the same woman and have provided, and taken great care of them. My home is always clean and smells delightful.
A stereotype that I have dealt with and continue to deal with is being mixed with African American. There is a lot of stereo typing and always wondering whatâs going on around me. Some people say that we are beneath them and shouldnât acquire a position above them. Some people wonât listen to me when I tell them how it is. Just the other day someone told me you are lucky to be African American because all the benefits you get. When I lived in New York I held a wonderful job as a Paraprofessional. When I moved to Florida I knew it was going to be tough at first when we moved because of several reasons. In New York, I had two children in school, but in the start of Florida only one would attend because of when the others birthday. This left not one but two children at home. Child Care for one child is expensive enough so imagine for two. So I decided to stay home and concentrate on not only my studies but my daughters education. She loved going to school and so since in New York I gained the knowledge of teaching as a Paraprofessional, I decided to work with her. It also gives me time for my school work and hopefully somet.

Almost 2 years of emergency remote teaching (ERT) have passed by and thereâs the likelihood that we are all going to âreturn to normalâ. Can we collectively engage in dialogue about the learning from the pandemic? In this session, I propose that we amplify, hospice and create (adapted from J Reich,) from what weâve experienced. Mliteracy - presentation for OE Global 2019Derek Moore
Â
Getting books into the hands of children is vital if kids are to learn to read. But there are many significant challenges facing those who wish to build a nation of story-readers and story-tellers In South Africa. My presentation is about two ideas, social publishing and mliteracy. The presentation describes the challenges and opportunities associated with reading. It describes how we have been working in public libraries and among librarians in Gauteng and broadening uptake and ownership of innovative forms of reading among marginalized communities where reading needs are most acute. The presentation concludes with a description of a model to describe this approach and how it aligns with open.
mLibrarian badges are the third part of a three pronged initiative developed by Derek Moore and the Goethe-Institut for public librarians. The intention of the whole project is to improve public librarians capacity to access and read "open" reading materials, available in digital formats. The set of mlibrarian badges (osing the Open Badge format) were focused around implementation of a mliteracy campaign in a community library. These badges offer micro application opportunities for librarians and act as a digital form of acknowledgement to those who can put into practice what they learned.

Webinars offers academics and students a new way possibility for tutorials. In this presentation, I introduce the concept of a webinar, the rationale for using this technology. I suggests how a webinar they might be used in a higher ed context and then highlights 10 common "myths" about the different aspects of their use.
Subject matter experts usually have loads of course available to them. But before cthis content can be uploaded onto the LMS, a few issues three "course content consideration" issues require attention. This presentation introduces the viewer to copyright, file types and style.
When the term "Blended Learning" is used, the assumption is that there is a shared understanding. But like life in the 21st century, the term "Blended Learning" is subject to constant change. This presentation explores how an understanding of the concept depends on our focus. Our understanding of the term "Blended Learning " is conditioned by what is valued in a particular context and the rate of adoption of technology enabled learning.
Disruption is a common theme among many tech evangelists. "Futuristsâ are predicting that robots and artificial intelligence will result in job losses for employees within professions. I'm not an evangelist or a futurist, but I think we can take it as a given that "Robots" will reshape all professions, including those in the legal field.
In this presentation I've tried to explore how our conceptions of "lawyering" might be changed by the introduction of "robots" into the legal profession. Technology has a habit of both substituting and complementing. Automation will raise output, but it also leads to higher demand for workers who can uniquely supply tasks that machines cannot supply.
Take a look at the range of information technologies of law that are assisting with raising output. The presentation will also offer glimpses of what legal professions can uniquely supply and robots cannot.
RAT & Blended Learning - Blended Learning is NOT about the combination of media or technologies. The mixture of digital and analogue media won't necessarily improve learning. Neither will the combination of Wi-Fi, phones and apps substantially shift our teaching.
We need to shift our gaze from "shiny gadgets" and focus on how we can thoughtfully integrate our learning and teaching activities, whether they be in the classroom or online or both.
The RAT continuum is a useful way to start thinking about the blend. RAT is a framework to describe how ed tech is used. We either replace, amplify or transform our teaching and learning with tech. Often our tech use is focused our replacement. E-books instead of a textbook. An online quiz instead of a test. A video instead of a lecture. The delivery vehicle is different, but the form remains the same. Replacement tech might have novelty value, but it wonât change practices in a typical normal room.
To blend in a way that takes advantage of the affordances of tech, then we should be re-thinking how we want to use technology in the blended learning classroom. RAT is a good place to begin re-conceptualizing our un-examined assumptions about technology can be useful.

Enhancing and extending student learning with lecture captureDerek Moore
Â
Lecture capture technology offers students a new way to access organized course content. In this talk, I introduce staff to the concept of lecture capture, the rationale for using this technology and a lecture capture platform (Panopto) which has been designed particularly for a higher education context and is easy to use for both academics and students.
If information stewards and custodians are to collect, create, appraise, preserve, store, use and access sophisticated, flexible, responsive and future- friendly content at scale, then they will have to think strategically about who's going to use the content, how and where they're going to consume it. COPE â Create Once, Publish Everywhere - is an acronym that describes how content should be conceived once and then disseminated through multiple conduits. The goal of COPE is to capture all content (text, media), context and metadata in a single manner, and then ensure that this content can be accessed and used across a range of publishing platforms.

⢠QUESTION: Should gay and lesbian couples have the right to marry each other in the United States today?
⢠RESPONSE #1: Melissa, I would submit that instead of learning to be gay or lesbian from their parentsâwhat
children are more likely to learn not to divide their relationships along gender roles and to use instead a best
friend model instead of a traditional model in their own relationships and to share tasks and chores or divide
them more pragmatically according to preferences or work schedules (Peplay and Gordon, 1982) and
(Marecek, finn, and Cardell, 1988). We must remember that a persons sexual orientation is complex and
includes a combination of social, biological and personal factors. Don't forget, most gays and lesbians were
raised in heterosexual homesâif they learned their sexual script from their parentsâwhy aren't they
heterosexual? My own stepdaughter, in spite of spending significant time in a home with two lesbians from
the time she was three and a half until she was nineâis adamantly heterosexual.
⢠RESPONSE #2: I would agree that kids are very impressionable and more likely than not they would probably
pick-up on the gay or lesbian tendencies of their parents. As we've learned in our text children learn gender
role behavior through reinforcement and modeling. Remember during infancy and early childhood, a child's
most important source of learning is the primary caretaker (heterosexual same sex parents alike). A parents
words and actions contribute to their children's gender-role socialization (Culp et al., 1983)
⢠RESPONSE #3: You can't make someone "that way" as you put it. If we're in "danger" of creating a whole world
of homosexuals, why is it that most homosexual people have straight parents? Homosexuality has been
around since the beginning of time. So if your theory was correct, wouldn't we all be gay by now? The average
gay man won't identify himself as being gay until the age of 19-21 because he's probably living at home or
dependent on his parents until that age. He probably doesn't want to tell anyone because of his fear of being
ostracized by his peers, but more importantly his family. I'm sure it's not because he went to college and made
a whole bunch of gay friends and it rubbed off on him.
⢠RESPONSE #4: After reading Nancy's, Raymond's, Donovan's and Karen's discussions, I can see that we think
almost alike. However we must recognized the existence of prejudice about gay men and lesbian interactions
in our society. Current laws in every state does not allow for gay lesbian couples to marry. Our society does not
accept their sexual behavior and that it is why we have the anti-gay prejudice and we discriminate against
them. In the U.S. military our current "don't ask don't tell" policy proves it. If a soldier comes out and publicly
acknowledges being gay or lesbian, we condemn and quickly separate them from the service. A The New York
Times survey, from our text found that 55 percent of the respondents believed behavior between adult gay
men and lesbians was morally wrong. At the same time, 78 percent believed gay men and lesbians should have
equal job opportunities; 43 percent supported gay men and lesbians in the military, however an equal
percentage opposed it. America still suffers from a severe case of homophobia.
⢠RESPONSE #5: I agree with you Darren. With the divorce rate lurking around 50% and such significant number
of children reared in single parent and dysfunctional families, how can a legitimate argument be made against
a loving, nurturing same sex couple. You are right, Rosie O'Donnel is a good example. Same sex couples are
capable of insuring children of either sex are socialized to their traditional gender role in society. They are at
least as capable as a single father rearing a daughter or single mother rearing a son.
⢠RESPONSE #6: "Don't ask, Don't tell," while still discriminatory, is a far cry from what we had before. I am on Ft
Lewis and have been for a while. I was here when the Marguerite Cammermeyer story broke, and when she
came back in the military following the implementation of "don't ask, don't tell" I heard the way people talked
about her when they saw her in the commissary. She is probably one of the primary people responsible for the
change, since she had already proven that she could serve honorably. I also remember the case a couple of
years before where, also here on Ft Lewis, there was a CID investigation that ended up on the cover of the
Army times, involving about 7 or 8 lesbian officers and NCOs who were all separated from service following an
investigation opened by a CID agent who was married and had been trying (unsuccessfully) to date one of the
womenâwho was also a CID agent. His adultery was totally ignored when it was brought up by the female,
lesbian agent over the course of the investigation.
⢠RESPONSE #7: I jumped into this one at the last minute. As always, I found the responses very interesting and
thought provoking. I noticed that religious beliefs had much influence on opinions of whether gays/lesbians
should have the right to marry. Since I see the major goal with gay/lesbian marriages to be the "material
benefits" associated with a traditional marriage (taxes, insurance, benefits, etc.), I don't see it as a
moral/ethical issue. And since the question was not "are gay/lesbian relationships morally wrong," I won't
entertain my personal beliefs. I believe this leads to egocentric fallacies. I read nothing in the text that
convinced me that gay/lesbian relationships should not be recognized as a legal union; united sexually;
cooperating economically; and possibly giving birth to, adopting, or rearing children.
