Great discussion post this week! Seniority is a subject that some companies abide by and where
some companies do not. I personally feel that seniority is always a fine line too. It is a topic that can
get personal to people, especially if they are new to a company. I have not had any experiences yet
where the manager uses seniority for benefits or anything, and I hope I never will. I understand that
employees who have worked at a company the longest should have the first opportunity, but I just
do not agree with that. I feel that the most qualified employee for the job position should have the
job, and the employees, new or old, that complete the work on time and effectively should have a
promotion. Let's say that an older worker who works slow and never gets things done or right is
offered the position and accepts it over a newer employee who is a hard worker, gets the job done on

how much government control has over us as individuals and the public sector all together, however
in certain circumstances hiring, let's say teachers, simply based off seniority is not a valid financial
decision. Imagine you have teacher 1) forty–five years of experience, however he/she is not liked by
coworkers/students, historically lower overall test scores of students, higher percentage of failing
grades, then you have teacher 2) friendly, young and outgoing and willing to take criticism to
improve. Under the PFT they have to hire teacher one although he/she would require a higher salary,
whereas teacher one would be the more logical choice for the job because he/she would have a
lower salary and would have the opportunity to benefit the school in the long–run. This story is

across the beach to the initial meeting place. Ralph displays his leadership ability when he addresses
Piggy after he is teases for his name. "With the directness of genuine leadership," he dismisses

The lack of seniority in this school is an evident and prevalent problem, at least among the juniors.
You see, our school has such a great sense of togetherness, unity, the combination of grade levels to
create houses. However, the traditional view is that the highest grade should have seniority over
their lower–aged constituents. Being that this isn't the case here, we experience plenty of
complaining from the juniors, including myself occasionally. For example, why can't juniors be first
in line for convenience lunches? To me, this is ludicrous. Not only that, but there is almost always
utter chaos in the line. There are people skipping, pushing, yelling and skipping again.
I understand fully that the juniors are not seniors yet, and generally the seniors are the ones who
have SENIORity. But the fact is, we are the oldest grade, and we may not experience true high
school seniority unless the administration takes proactive measures to allow us this experience. By
the end of this year, many of the juniors hope to experience some form of seniority (LUNCH LINE,
PEOPLE!).

I would try to be as upfront and sincere as possible and if the situation became dire enough I would
freeze wages for myself as well. This would help show the employees that even management is
willing to make sacrifices to try and keep all the jobs. Another important item I would do is to keep
