1. The Impact of Time on
ENROLLMENT

2. The Principle:
Timing is everything
When it comes to achieving enrollment numbers, every second counts.
Reaching decisions faster than your competition can help your program
yield more students.

3. The Problem:
Applications on the rise
While time is of the utmost importance, reviewing faster gets
complicated as applications flood in. The number of applications
read by each admissions office is expected to increase 11%
annually which means admissions personnel can expect to review
1,115 applications per reader by 2016!

4. The Question:
In the face of an application tidal
wave, how do I review applications
faster and more efficiently?

7. Locate problems at the source
Like speed bumps on a road, today’s admissions processes and technology can
slow decision making. Consider all the unintended inefficiencies that come with
filing, accessing, assigning, collecting, reviewing, collaborating, scoring and storing
applications. Now think about all those with the added complexity of travel.

9. Run through this checklist
of questions:
How long does it take for readers to pick up and drop
off files?
How much time is spent waiting to connect to the
internet over public wifi?
How long does it take for a web browser to display an
application over a slow connection?
How much faster could the review process be if
readers were in a comfortable setting?
How efficient is the process for assigning, distributing,
and collecting reader evaluations?

11. Technology is your friend
Technology can greatly reduce friction and accelerate admissions decision making. It
offers a lot of promise but not all solutions are created equal. Consider the time it
takes to prepare, integrate, install, and implement a new system. If the new system is
complex and difficult to use, that will further slow down the process extending the
time until the return on investment is realized, if ever.

13. Improve yield
By gaining visibility into the upcoming class sooner, admissions
officers can proactively adjust their focus and recruitment efforts
to improve yield. They can spend more time recruiting and less
time reviewing.

16. Evolution of Admissions
Some colleges still conduct their review using paper based processes.
Others read online and use document imaging systems that disrupt
workflow, and force applications to be read in uncomfortable office settings.
While going from paper to document imaging to online review can be
considered progress, the evolution is not over.

18. Before
‘You can see piles of paper ready for assembly in our Round 2
before Matchbox. That window in the background is now my
office window, as we carved out new offices from the old
operations room that was no longer needed.”

22. Review. Decide. Enroll.
The competition for applicants is too intense for today’s application
review processes not optimized for speed. Both online and paper
review bog down personnel with inefficiencies. Matchbox accelerates
the review process which yields a competitive advantage over schools
still using paper and online review.
