Poverty is defined as having little to no money or resources. In the US, around 50 million people, or 1 in 6, struggle with hunger and poverty. The official poverty line was established in 1965 and is based on the cost of a low-cost food basket multiplied by three to account for non-food costs like rent and utilities. Globally, over 1.4 billion people live in absolute poverty, unable to afford basic necessities, while many others experience relative poverty compared to their society.
