This document summarizes geopressured resources and enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) as potential energy sources. It discusses:
1) Geopressured resources have high temperatures (110-150°C) and pressures, with significant recoverable thermal and methane energy in the Gulf of Mexico basin. EGS resources have temperatures over 130°C and are found at depths of 5-10km under half the US.
2) Challenges to developing geopressured resources include high salinity fluids, CO2 concentrations, and efficiently extracting energy while maintaining pressure and flow. Developing EGS requires hydrofracturing reservoirs and addressing drilling and downhole equipment limits at high temperatures.
