Slavery In The Antebellum American South
Race as a social construct, a pseudo biological concept, and an identifying demographic has
undeniably been ubiquitous in the history of human otherness. In particular, the ascribing of racial
identities to a group, or racialization , has played a vital role in the conception and development of
minority groups. This phenomenon continues to shape ideas about race and ethnicity, albeit in less
dramatic ways than in the antebellum South. Nevertheless, people blinded by privilege claim that
they are colorblind or that society has moved into a post racial paradigm. It is, therefore, especially
relevant to examine processes of racialization that have defined and maintained the social concept
of race throughout history. A prominent historical instance of racialization that influenced modern
day race identity is the objectification and commoditization of black peoplein Southern slave
markets of the antebellum era. As a consequence of the chattel principle, which defined a slave s
existence as property of a slaveholder, Black Americans identities were permanently altered by
those who used their positions of power to subjugate and dehumanize them, either deliberately or
tacitly. Specifically through association between race and physical or mental ability, and false
medicalization of issues in slave populations, slave traders, slaveholders, and others who endorsed
chattel slaveryperpetuated the racialization of black slaves. Slavery in the antebellum American

Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools
President Trump s choice for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was confirmed on February
7th, 2017, and her support for charter schools has become a priority in the administration. CNN
reports that DeVos has been a strong advocate in the past for school choice, lobbying for charter
schools in her home state of Michigan years prior to her confirmation. President Trump stated his
education plan would put forth billions of dollars into school choice programs across the United
States. Charter schools are publicly funded and independently run, in some cases operated by for
profit and often do not hire unionized teachers a distinction that has put them at odds with teacher
unions (Grinberg 2017). DeVos labels charter schools as an extension of public education, while
critics of school choice point to both the unchecked power of charter school administrators, and the
poor test scores of the students in Michigan charter schools the schools DeVos lobbied for in the
past. School choice supporters anticipate the new administration to allocate both state and federal
money for vouchers that can be used for a variety of schools including completely private,
religious, and home schooling. However controversial, charter schools are experiencing a growth in
popularity in locations such as Washington D.C., Arizona, Colorado, and Florida. The shift from
public schools to charter schools could dramatically increase given the influx of potentially $20
billion into school choice

Summary Of The Gospel Of Wealth By Andrew Carnegie
Response Paper: Andrew Carnegie The Gospel of Wealth was written by Andrew Carnegie in
1889. Carnegie used the essay to argue that individual capitalists were duty bound to play a
broader cultural and social role and thus improve the world, though there were those that
disagreed with him, writing their own share of essays in response and creating a lively debate
(History Matters 1). Carnegie, unlike his peers, believed that it was the responsibility of the newly
formed upper class, consisting of those who had made their own fortunes, to engage in acts of
philanthropy. He believed that the best way to deal with the wealthinequality that resulted from
their creation of their own fortunes was to redistribute their wealth in a manner that was not only
responsible, but beneficial to all.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carnegie s essay came in in the early middle of this transformation, after which time he, and
others like him, had recently made their own fortunes. Due to a lack of a separation between the
wealthy and the poor, Carnegie was able to see the disparate nature of wealth and, being a God
fearing man, created his Gospel of Wealth as a means of working to attempt to address the
inequalities he saw, serving as a middle ground through which it was possible to still be a self
made man while at the same time working to increase overall culture and appreciation for all. The
libraries and the buildings and other works that Carnegie funneled some of his many funds into
are still visible today, serving as a physical reminder not only of what a single individual can do
with the right dedication and talent, but also serving as a reminder of a time when the value system
within the country was markedly

QUALITY STANDARDS IN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
Quality professionals use the term standards to mean many things, such as metrics, specifications,
gages, statements, categories, segments, groupings or behaviors. But usually when they talk about
standards, they re talking about quality management.
Management standards address the needs of organizations in training, quality auditing and quality
management systems. The ISO 9000 Series, for example, is a set of international standards for
quality management and quality assurance. The standards were developed to help companies
effectively document the elements they need to maintain an efficient quality system. They are not

responsibilities include: performing all work in compliance with all documented procedures and
work instructions that may apply; to have access to all procedures and/or work instructions that are
applicable to your job; to know the company s QS 9000 quality policy statement; to cooperate with
internal and external auditors; to attend and complete all required training sessions; to attend all
meetings that are applicable to your job function. (i.e., management reviews, problem solving
meetings); respect the document control and quality record procedures: comply with corrective
actions; to complete all forms, logs and other records which are called for by your procedures and
work instructions in a consistent, timely manner; to notify appropriate personnel of
nonconformances which could cause a quality problem or finding during an audit.

Secession Of The Texas Economy
In today s society with so many disagreements between the state and federal government going on
the thought crosses some Texans minds about secession. The movement, headed by the Texas
Nationalist Movement and the Tea Party, is seeking to remove the state from the union and institute
Texas as a new country. Many questions arise over the topic of secession covering topics such as
economy, currency, population, and if Texas would be helped or hurt by leaving the United States
federal government behind. It has been shown that Texas has a much larger population than
many countries as well as gold to back a currency should it decide to create one. The Texas
economy is extremely strong with a mass of exports and natural resources being gathered in the
state. These natural resources tied with other products made in Texas give the state one of the
strongest economies in the world. Even with all this knowledge the question over secession still
persists. The Texas economy stands 12th in the world and stands as a reason that secession might
be possible. From minerals to gemstones, oil to natural gas, and animal products to the creation of
electrical equipment the Texas economy stands strong even when other parts of the world are
struggling. Among the natural resources are 16 ports whose economic impact on the United States
totals in the billions. For the past decade, Texas has been the top state for foreign exports. Last
year, they totaled $265 billion, according to data from the

Measuring And Collecting The Right Measurement For Study
The credibility of a study as evidence for practice is almost entirely dependent on identifying,
measuring and collecting the right measurement for study (Houser, 2015). Having a reliable
measurement strategy is critical for good evidence. It is this evidence that research requires
determining if and what identification of the measurement objective and measurement strategies
can be accurate and straightforward, as when we measure concrete factors, such as a person s
weight or waist circumference (Grove, Burns Gray, 2013, p. 382). Levels of Measurement

students coming from three to four schools of nursing to participate in the study. Schools who
agree to participate will use the same type of simulation equipment and have faculty members who
have had or no training in debriefing, use the same scenario, and will conduct debriefing sessions

The nurse educators will receive the same basic questions regarding demographics. Two additional

debriefing or not; (2) do they use prepared debriefing questions or not after a simulation event. An
initial pre test will be given to group participants once the demographic questionnaire is complete.

Elk River Essay
PROVISION 2: Provision 2 requires a survey of facilities along Elk River and that the findings be
made publicly available. This provision would help to build a backbone of information needed to
quickly and effectively respond to future incidents. The survey could identify chemicals stored in
the watershed and gather toxicity data on these chemicals. The survey could also ascertain tank
characteristics, tank maintenance and their proximity to fragile ecosystems, as well as provide up
to date facility contact information. Taking it a step further, this data could be used to determine
which facilities pose the greatest riskand establish emergency preparedness plans for those facilities.
Although there is a patchwork of laws that currently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A further benefit of this provision is that it would make the results of the survey available to the
public. Public availability of data provides transparency and can make citizens aware of the dangers
in their communities. This in turn can assist citizens in making informed decisions about their
health and for advocating for risk mitigation in their communities.
Further, public awareness can be a catalyst for opening a dialogue between industry and citizens.
Industry s knowledge that the public is aware of the risk may increase recognition of their
responsibility to the citizens in their area and may motivate them to take precautions. Further, the
public can play an import role in changing social norms and in building consensus for other
regulations needed in the state. Additionally, open discourse about the risk of exposure to
environmental hazards by specific populations or communities will create opportunities for the state
and stakeholders to proactively pursue health equity. All too often, the disproportionate risk and
impact of disasters are an afterthought. The passage of this provision will facilitate communication
of risk throughout potentially impacted areas in general, and will also likely contribute to
decreased disparities in risk.
Important downsides to this provision are that it provides information only; that is it neither
removes the hazard nor provides any direct action to mitigate it. Moreover, reporting of

Who Is To Blame For Neil s Suicide
Boys, you must strive to find your own voice, because the longer you wait to begin, the less
likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said, Most men lead lives of quiet desperation. Don t be
resigned to that. Break out! Dead Poets Society is a movie that brings up much thought relating
towards the astounding English teacher, who s beliefs are shunned by those sceptical of his
teachings, due to the suicide of a beloved student at the private school he once taught at. The
English teacher, Mr. John Keating, was and was not to blame for the student s death. Mr. Keating
might have been somewhat responsible for the death of Neil Perry, the student, because he was a

dismay he knew in reality it was not going to be. Mr. Keating tells Neil to stand up to his father

Now, I know this sounds impossible, but you have to talk to him. You have to show him who

urge of someone to make the most of the present time and give little thought to the future. Neil s
future was all mapped out, yet he makes the best of it in his eyes. Neil s suicide can be depicted

Description Of A Lab Day
Description of the experience
The purpose of this reflection is to describe what concurred in lab day two. The day began with
preconference; Ms. O described what we would be doing throughout the day, which was infection
control, safety, and vital signs (#C1, #C4, #C6, #C10).
With infection control, hand washing is the most important aspect. As nurses and healthcare
professionals, we will encounter numerous individuals. To ensure that we do not contaminate
another client and ourselves, it is vital for us to wash our hands (#C4, #C6).
With safety, we were taught that it was crucial to ensure that you are performing care for the
person we are suppose to by using patient identification. Patient wristbands, having the patient state
their full name, and date of birth are the most effective way. Secondarily, safety goes beyond the
parameters of just identifying the patient, we were informed about bed rails, bed position, and call
lights (#C2, #C4).
The last part of the day involved assessing vital signs, including; temperature (oral, rectal, axillary,
and tympanic), assessing pulses, respiratory rates, blood pressure, pulse oximeter assessment, and
measuring height and weight. Nurses use vital signs as a starting point and they can learn a lot a
person and s/he ailments immediately from this information (#C2).

The Queens Visit
The Queens Visit
The dungeon was a miserable place. Light was scarce and flickered from the torches bolted to
the cobblestone walls. Foul smelling water dripped inside from the moat circling the palace
above. Large rats chased each other across the floor searching for food. This was no place for a
queen.
It was just past midnight and all was quiet except for the occasional movement of a chain. Through
the heavy silence, a single set of footsteps echoed throughout the halls as someone climbed down
the spiral steps into the dungeon.
A young woman emerged down the steps dressed head to toe in a long emerald cloak. She
cautiously made her way past the row of cells, sparking the interest of the prisoners inside. With

Are you sure you want to go in there, Your Highness? the guard said. There s no telling what she s

I must see her, the women says. At any cost.
The guard began turning a large circular lever and the bars of the cell rose. The women took a deep
breath and continued past them.
She journeyed through a longer darker hallway where a series of bars and barriers were raised and
then lowered after she walked past them. Finally, she reached the end of the hall, the last set of
bars were raised and she stepped into the cell.
The prisoner was a woman. She sat on a stool in the center of the cell and stared up at a small
window that was covered with dirt. The prisoner waited a few moments before acknowledging the
visitor behind her. It wasn t the first visiter she has ever had, and she knew who it was without
looking. There was only one person it could be.
Hello, Snow White, the prisoner said softly.
Hello, Stepmother, Snow White replied with a nervous quiver. I hope you well.

Maslow s Theory Of Motivation Based On A Holistic Approach
Maslow dealt with the psychological growth process, considered man as a biological organism,
and began his study with the theory of motivation based on a holistic approach. The holistic
approach paints a multidimensional whole picture of a person integrating the physical, mental,
and spiritual through a growth perspective. According to Sengupta (2011), Maslow defines
growth as the continuous development of talents, capacities, creativity, wisdom and character,
the various processes, which bring the person toward ultimate self actualization (p. 102).
Maslow did not ignore the spiritual dimension, but mainly focused on the biological nature of
man. He believed the entire person, not just part of him is motivated. Maslow s motivational
theory is based on the idea that human behavior is controlled through a number of developing
fundamental needs that operates in a fixed sequence and needs are defined as a condition of
deficit (Sengupta, 2011, p. 102). Needs are not always caused by shortfalls, however, they may be
founded on an individual s understanding of inner strength and high ethical standards in order to
understand their maximum potential. Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs pyramid consists of five
basic levels of needs, progressing from physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self actualization.
According to Robbins and Judge (2014), physiological and safety needs are lower levels needs that
are predominantly satisfied externally whereas social, esteem, and

Collateral Duty Inspector Essay
In the aviation side of the Navy there is a job known as Collateral Duty Inspector. The Collateral
Duty Inspector is considered a subject matter expert on the aircraft they work on. In order to
become a Collateral Duty Inspector a sailor must go through extensive training and meet certain
requirements. As a sailor looking to make the Navya career until retirement, becoming a Collateral
Duty Inspector was a major goal of mine.
I was on deployment with my second command VAW 126 on board the aircraft carrier Harry S.
Truman when I started the process. As a prospective Collateral Duty Inspector, I was working
nights from 1800 to 0600. I would spend most of the night with my supervisor Palar learning
what to do and what to look for. He would have me follow him as he inspected other sailors work

able to identify the different types of corrosion and how they affect and form on the aircraft. The
second test was on the Naval aviation maintenance program. The Naval aviation maintenance
program is the basic guidelines on how a Navy squadron will operate. The test requires you to
know who is responsible for certain jobs throughout the command and what your responsibilities
are as a Collateral Duty Inspector. This test is the most difficult due to the large amount of
information in the program. The third, and final test is the rating specific test. This test is made up

Also including in the test is the ability to find the correct answer to certain problems and procedures

Drug Experiment
A.
Drug A: After the cells are exposed to drug A, an increase in the amount of cyclic AMP is seen
on the diagram. Since A increased the amount of cAMP above the basal level, A is an agonist. In
this particular experiment, we do not see an agonist that leads to a higher increase in activity; we
can thus assume that A is a full agonist.
Drug B: When the cells were exposed to drug B at two different concentrations (10uM and 10
ВµM), no change in activity was noticed and it was equal to basal activity. This clearly signals
that B is an antagonist. Then we examine the effect of drug B when used in combination with drug
A. The amount of cyclic AMP has decreased as the concentration of drug B increased from 10 uM
to 10 ВµM while the concentration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, drug D in combination with drug A does produce a lower activity than drug A alone,
but this change is not concentration dependent (higher concentration of B does not lead to a
decrease in activity). One way to explain this decrease is that drug D is a partial agonist. Partial
agonists act as competitive antagonists in the presence of a full agonist (drug A in our case),
depressing its ability to achieve the maximum possible effect.
Alternatively, drug D could indeed be a competitive antagonist; we know that the parallel shift
depends only on the Ka, the dissociation constant for an antagonist and [A], the concentration of the
antagonist. The fact that the activity readings are equal at two different concentrations of Drug D
(and thus no shift in the effect curve) could thus be explained by a very large dissociation constant.
Mathematically, this scenario would lead to a ratio of [A] to Ka being close to zero for both drug D
concentrations, eliminating the shift in effect curve and showing the same activity for both
concentrations.
Drug E: The data shows the decrease in basal signaling when the cells are exposed to drug E.
Thus, we could assume that drug E is a inverse agonist. However, there is an alternative scenario
where drug E is interfering with an endogenous agonist and leads to a decrease in background
activity. (a)
From the analysis above, we concluded that drugs B and C are competitive antagonists. Although to

Many of the smaller surrounding states saw the successes of the customs union and so decided to
join themselves. From then on many large states joined. The customs union became known as the
Zollverein.
The Zollverein was a great success and was a large step to the unification of Germany. The
systems of weights and measures was homogenised within the states of the Zollverein. The major
differences between the states were now becoming not so apparent. Due to the abolition of
customs barriers and the currency no longer varying from each state trade increased between the
countries. This did not occur however without the help of the railways. Lines were extended
throughout the states of the Zollverein. Because of this, delegates were able to travel quickly and
efficiently to other states to agree trade treaties. Communication between the states increased
greatly and now not only were economic barriers broken down but also physical ones.
Communication to enable unity increased greatly through the railways. One economist described
the railway network as the firm girdle around the loins of Germany binding her limbs together into
a forceful and powerful body .
The Zollverein also aided in the unification of Germany as it increased feelings of one country in
other words, nationalism. The railways helped with the spread of German press. Now

Comparing Jane Austen s Sense And Sensibility
Jane Austen was a fabulous and accomplished writer, and Emma Thompson is a enjoyable
screenwriter; but when one watches or reads their works, it is natural as humans to ask questions.
Sometimes the questions can be answered by reviewing the sources, whether it be a movie or a
book, with more attention and purpose, but that is not always the case. There can never be
complete certainty when assuming the thoughts of others; Jane Austen may have just added in
Margaret Dashwood to Sense and Sensibilitybecause she felt like having a third character, and now
in our present day, highschoolers are running around inventing dramatic and unique causes for this
individual s existence. Nevertheless, I will attempt to answer two questions accurately in this...

In the 1995 film version of Sense and Sensibility, a major part of volume III is removed.
Willoughby s entire apology and Elinor s subsequent feelings are simply passed off; Marianne
falls ill, Mrs. Dashwood arrives, and Marianne miraculously returns to health. My first time
watching this movie left me confused, as an entire chapter consisting of nearly fifty five
hundred words was not there. Not only that, but the chapter provided clear remorse from
Willoughby; while he still values money over love, he is penitent of some of the damage his
poor choices inflicted, and he goes to apologize even when there is no need to. The big screen
version instead shows Willoughby at the wedding of Marianne and Colonel Brandon, staring
regretfully from afar. The first explanation that comes to mind would be for the sake of time.
While the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is two hours and twenty minutes, a
miniseries consisting of three sixty minute episodes was released in 2008. The latter contains
Willoughby s apology, while the former has no mention. While the miniseries had the room to
smoothly explain such a story, the film could not add in the plea without it appearing to be
shoehorned in. Furthermore, the second cause for nixing the scene would be to make
Willoughby even more of a wicked libertine. Even when a girl he professed to love lay deathly
ill, he did even pay a visit! Surely there is no justification for that, lest one say work is more
important that human life. This move cemented the audience s hatred of Willoughby, and when he

defining it. People tend to over simplify the idea. Some say that failure is only a setback to a
goal. Some stress the importance of embracing a failure, but fail to explain what that actually
means. Others still believe that failure should be feared and avoided at all costs
In my view, failure cannot be considered a setback. I think of it as more of a sign that one path
wasn t exactly the right one to achieve their goal. Imagine a motionless man who watched as a
train zipped by him. But from the reference point of another man who was on the train, the man
moved backwards. The problem with life is that it has as much motion as the train, but is
invisible to the human eye. If someone doesn t go towards where they want to be in life, life will
pass them by with no sympathy. Everyone agrees that life is in motion, but no one knows where it
s going. It moves in the simplest way that something can move, forward, but in no specific
direction. In that sense, failure could never set anyone back, but only change their course.
Everyone who has passion about what they re doing will think that they re doing the most to make
themselves content, but things don t always work out according to plan. Failure doesn t close off
all opportunity, it opens up a new way of doing thing with the experience of what went wrong in the
past.
I was always very confused by people who think failure needs to be

Rhyolite History
The 19th century saw a construction and population boom in North America, as a result of the
California Gold Rush and the flourishing of the mining industry all over the United States, which
drew new settlers from Europe, Latin America and Asia. Once the gold and coal resources dried up,
many of these newly found, remote towns emptied out, as its inhabitants moved to larger areas
looking for new opportunities. These are some of the coolest ghost towns that still stand within
American territory.
Number Seven: Bodie, California
Prospector W.S. Body founded Bodie in 1859 in California, close to the Nevada border, after

Why A College Education Should Be Free
Foundations of Writing
Argument Paper
Aby Adams
Why Education should be free Everyone needs education if they plan to go anywhere in their
future. Even as teenagers, education is so important. It prepares teenagers for their future and
college education. But it is so expensive. Once one graduates from high school they re off on their
own paying their own expenses on top of all the college education expenses. Education is so
expensive, especially in today s world. So why is it not free yet? First off, if education was free,
college students wouldn t be in so much debt. The average college student graduates college with
$60,000 in debt. Today college students are highly in debt, and some are in debt for the rest of
their lives. Just from

Women s Struggle And Power
Throughout centuries, women were only considered to be chattel of the supreme male beings.
They received no accountability for their heroic actions, the gift of bearing children or raising
them in the infinite family line. Women s efforts and power to act, remained unnoticed by
society. It is only during a time of massacre and atrocious murder, that oblivion had crushed
reality and the warped perspective of a women s incapability s. The belief that a female could not
perform a function adequately was quickly demolished along with the idea of superior male
soldiers that victoriously lost their lives in battle. The First World War impacted the lives of all
women in Canadaby gaining partial equality to men, the right to vote and a remarkable spread of
female independence. Firstly, women worked to authenticate that men were not inferior to them,
either through occupations, education or skill, in order to gain the equality they willingly
challenged. The hardships of the First World War, had affected the country and its economical
standing with the departure of male soldiers overseas and the limited resources available to the
population left behind. Women had bravely taken the opportunity to replace their husbands, fathers
and sons, to aid the war effort or simply for the adventure. Over 30,000 women were employed in
ammunition factories, civil services or overseas as ambulance drivers and motor transport
occupations. This caused the movements of suffragists and the

HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT RELATED EMERGENCIES
Introduction
Heat exhaustion is one of several heat related emergencies that can be potentially fatal if not treated
promptly and correctly. Heat related emergencies encompass three phases, which represent
progressive worsening of symptoms and thus potential morbidity of the condition. These three
phases include heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and ultimately heat stroke that without prompt
treatment can result in serious injury or even death. Treatment of heat exhaustion and heat related
emergencies is focused on prompt identification of symptoms and subsequent supportive treatment
to reduce core body temperature and prevent potential complications associated with the condition.
Education regarding identification of early signs of heat related emergencies has helped to reduced
incidences of heat stroke, but current research has also found new ways to treat heat stroke and
prevent complications associated with heat related emergencies. With this advent of new treatments
outlooks for those suffering from heat stroke have improved, however the best treatment is still
early identification and prevention of heat related emergencies.

How Morals Were Shaped Through The Creation Stories
How morals were shaped through the creation stories in the book of Genesis The first principle
of value that we need to rediscover is this: that all reality hinges on moral foundations. In other
words, that this is a moral universe, and that there are moral laws of the universe just abiding as
the physical laws (Martin Luther King Jr.). Everyone around the world, regardless of gender, race,
religion, and political views are defined by their own moral compass. The decisions that people
make are heavily influenced by their own unique moral compass that was shaped through the
culture and societal norms exposed around them. In particular, the book Genesis describes the
creation of man and through their creation, brings forth the ideal... Show more content on

However, this creation story raises multiple questions regarding
Huynh 2 morality in today s contemporary beliefs. Before, people may blindly take it that God is
always right and that we should obey Him because we will be severely punished if we disobey.
Now, people in general have become more open minded and analytical with what they read. For
instance, the story depicts that the reason why Adam and Eve were punished because they ate
the fruit that gave them knowledge of right and wrong. However, Adam and Eve did not know
the difference between right and wrong before eating the fruit. For example, after eating the
fruit, Adam and Eve knew it was wrong for them to be naked and tried to cover themselves. So
was it right for God to punish Adam and Eve when they did not know that it was right or wrong
to disobey Him? Is it moral to punish those who do not understand what is right and wrong,
much less differentiate the two? In fact, the first story in Genesis shows how destructive God
can be to those who do not obey His commands which raises questions about morality to the
reader. Depending on the reader s interpretation, the story influences their moral compass.
Several interpretations could be: It is morally wrong to disobey God and to disobey God means we
will face dire consequences or It is morally wrong to disobey God, but was it unjust for God to
punish those who are ignorant of what is

Technological Advancements Impact On Business Growth And...
Introduction
Technology has always played a major role in business growth and development. Its application has
risen at an unimaginable rate among enterprises. The resultant effect is that organizations
continuously experience innovation resulting from technological advances. The assimilation of
technology promotes modifications in organizational processes, tasks, and the nature of work. The
technology driven changes bring about an increase in the number of people using technological
devices such as computers to perform tasks. Technological advancements tremendously affect
employee s morale, nature of tasks, and impacts interactions among co workers. The managers of
technological changes need to play both the roles of implementers and technical developers. The
introduction of technology to an organization comes with a vast array of challenges to the
management.
Most of the changes in the marketplace are driven by technological advancements. Technological
innovations in the marketplace are categorized into two, namely: sustaining and disruptive
innovations. Innovations that do not significantly impact the existing markets are defined as
sustaining innovations. Disruptive innovations, on the other hand, are innovations that result into a
new market and value network. They disrupt existing markets and value networks. Whether
sustaining or disrupting, businesses are supposed to anticipate change and prepare in advance.
Appropriate action is required to deal with changing

The Importance Of Work In The Workplace
For many employed people, a workplace is like a second home. According to the Organisation
for Economic Co operation and Development in 2016 in the United States, the annual hours
actually worked per worker on their main job is 1,783 hours (OECD, 2017). The atmosphere of
a workplace contributes to the mental and emotional wellness of its employees and the
productivity of an organization, as a whole; therefore, it is important to establish consistent
house rules or guidelines to communicate to both management and employees how to conduct
themselves for the goodwill of the company and its people. Every person at an organization
brings a diverse set of individual needs and motivations apart from the company s primary
agenda. Despite their commitment to perform their specific work responsibilities while in the
workplace, each person obligates himself or herself to non work urgencies that can produce
interruptions within the boundaries of their required duty to an organization (Casper DePaulo,
2012). Such non work urgencies may involve a spouse or a child for a partnered employee;
therefore, many organizations establish family friendly policies in consideration of a partnered
employee s life outside of the workplace or the exceeding obligations of a person with parental
responsibilities (Casper DePaulo, 2012, p. 232). Family friendly policies could include a flexible
work schedule with the option to telecommute some days, or extra time off to care for an ill partner

1) How is the radiating electric field (or electromagnetic signal) produced when radio stations
broadcast? Include a description of what is producing the signal as well as the reasoning behind
how this could produce a signal. We know that electromagnetic radiation is produced by
accelerating charges. In the radio transmitter, electrons oscillate up and down and are thus
accelerating. An electron will exert a force on another electron when they are some distance away,
like charges repel. When the electron in the transmitter oscillates up and down, the direction of the
force it exerts changes since the source of the force is moving. It takes some time for the change ...

The amplitude affects the strength of the force, that is the length of the force vectors in the
electromagnetic wave. The wavelength of the wave depends only on the frequency with which the
electron in the transmitting antenna is oscillating up and down; and the speed of light.
Wavelength x Frequency = Speed of Light

transmitting electron has on the electromagnetic waves. So the receiving

Shooting A Bow Lab Report
Shooting a bow largely involves the use of the upper extremity. Between the needs of stabilization
and torque, many muscles in the upper extremity are utilized to perform an effective shot.
However, the lower extremity is also involved in bow shooting mechanics. Muscles in the lower
extremity perform both concentric and eccentric contractions to stabilize the body during all phases
of shooting a bow. Therefore, shooting a bow involves complex contractions of muscles throughout
the body. In the next few pages the jointsand the muscular involvement of the shoulder, elbow, and
wristduring bow shooting will be discussed in depth.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the involvement of the upper extremity will be discussed
in detail as it relates to its function in the action of shooting a bow. The shoulder plays a huge role
in drawing the bow and keeping the string pulled back. The joints of the shoulder are vital when
performing these actions. The joints involved include: the sternoclavicular joint, ... Show more

Fortunately, it is fairly easy to fix these issues as long as you address them quickly. So if you are
interested in fixing a crack or hole in your asphalt, use these three tips to ensure you get good
results: 1. Clean Well Before you do anything, make sure you thoroughly clean the asphalt. Any
loose bits of dirt and debris could ruin your asphalt patch, so clean it very well. Use a broom and
sweep the entire area of the crack of hole. Be sure to sweep the surrounding area as well.

Essay on Dbq- Era of Good Feelings
During the early 1800 s France and Britain were at war and for many years America remained
neutral. But, Great Britain began seizing American ships and impressing the Americans into the
British Navy. In addition, Great Britain was supplying the Native Americans in North America
with guns and, as a result America declared war on Britain in 1812. The phrase Era of Good
Feelings was used to describe the administrations of Munroe in 1816 but the validity of this
phrase is questioned. Many people might believe that the period after the war of 1812 was an Era
of Good Feelings because of the nation s gain of nationalism and expansion of the country, but it
was not because of growing sectionalism and state issues. After the War of 1812,... Show more

This tariff was created to protect American factories in the north and was a tax placed on
imported goods. But the south was highly upset because they felt that this tariff only supported
the north and they had to pay it also. Document F also sheds light on sectionalism because
Jefferson talks about a geographic line that fills him with terror, also known as the 36,30 line
created by Henry Clay. This line determined if the upcoming states from the Louisiana Territory
would have slavery or not. The issue of slavery was a major player in the growth of sectionalism
between the north and the south. Moreover, the government had problems with the states.
Maryland wanted to tax the national bank which led to the case of McCulloch v. Maryland that
was sent to the Supreme Court (Document D).Similarly are the revolts seen in Document G
which resulted in throwing 50 60 leaders from South Carolina in jail but there were still
prisoners stating that there are enough people to carry the work into execution. Overall, the
America had too much problems on their hands to be going through an Era of Good Feelings .
All in all, the period after the War of 1812 may seem to be an Era of Good Feelings because of
nationalism and westward expansion, but in fact it was not because of increasing sectionalism and
state issues. As a result of winning the War of 1812 against Great Britain,

Summary Of Ethos Pathos Logos By Maggie Jackson
What are some ways you could persuade your reader to your opinion? One way is by using logos,

used to convince your audience. In the essay Distracted: The Erosion of Attention and The Coming
Dark Age by Maggie Jackson. Maggie used those three concepts to help her argument because she
hooks the reader by convincing the audience, making the audience feel what she felt and lastly

Authors typically use pathos to make their reader feel what the author wants them to feel. For

Reasons For Accepting Credit Card Payment
There are many things you must do if you want to stay on top of things and succeed in business.
However, in addition to the things you need to do, there are also certain things you need to know.
This is especially true when it comes to accepting credit card payments. As a merchant who is
running a business, the last thing you want to hear about is more rules and regulations, but
considering the recent EMV Credit CardLiability Shift, there is no time better than now for finally
going over some of the basic Guidelines for accepting credit cards.
There are a huge number of network guidelines issued for accepting card payments, and merchants
are expected to understand them all. Yet, few business owners ever actually read these guidelines.
Unfortunately, this is a notable source of avoidable issues down the road.
Although the extensive fine print and technical jargon in credit card guidelines may be a big
turnoff, it s important to be able to sift through the complicated wording and find the meaning
within. Luckily, you only have to know a few basic rules in order to keep your business going
without being penalized.
Reviewing the Rules for Visa, Mastercard, and Amex
Of course there s more than one way to process a credit card; you can take them in store, online,
and by phone. And in addition to different ways to pay, there are of course different brands of

What Is Pearl Symbolism In The Scarlet Letter
Pearl is the love child of sin between an adultress and a minister. Throughout the book she is
expressive and individual. The novel shows Pearl as she grows up, being unaccepted and shunned
from society because of how she came into the world. She copes with this by accepting it and
embracing the edge from the disapproval that society gives her. Campbell s article regarding The
Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel Hawthorneexplains how the character Pearl represents femininity and
women s sexuality.
Pearl sticks out to the reader because of her abnormalities. One can begin to see the point Campbell
is trying to make in the line, Pearl is the disruptive female supplement to the phallocentric economy;
she disturbs the relationship to reality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were her country women; and the beef and ale of their native land, with a moral diet not a
whit more refined, entered largely into their composition. The bright morning sun, therefore, shone
on broad shoulders and well developed busts, and on round and ruddy cheeks, that had ripened in
the far off island, and had hardly yet grown paler or thinner in the atmosphere of New England.
There was, moreover, a boldness and rotundity of speech among these matrons, as most of them
seemed to be, that would startle us at the present day, whether in respect to its purport or its volume
of tone. (34)
Women of the time were not petite and certainly not the definition of feminine. Pearl is young and
beautiful, like her mother, making her different from the societal norm. Pearl s symbolism of
femininity translates to her role as a symbol of women s sexuality as well.
Pearl represents women s sexuality by respecting herself and being conscious of her choices in
life. Pearl represents female sexuality not as a tender appeal to the male but as a threatening
otherness to phallic sexuality (Campbell). Pearl realizes the power of her consent and uses that to
her advantage in life.

Essay about The New Side of the News Media
Everything is known not according to itself, but according to the capacity of the knower Boethius.
News reporters know everything about an issue and have many ways to present their information to
the public. People do not realize their opinions are influenced through the media s reportings, since
no one has warned them. These reporters are often called the fourth branch of government (Gabbs)
because of their actions. The media is responsible for conveying opinions through their reports,
which does not allow the individual to analyze a situation to form their own opinions; therefore they
are detrimental to the American society. Many news sources include their opinions through a
simple technique of fabricating stories. Most news... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, the media was also capable of changing the attention from the people to the
plane. People mainly talk about the plane instead of the missing family members, which were not
given much respect through the media. Since the media creates opinions, they need a side to
stick with. That is how the terms conservatives and liberals came to be. People consider
conservatives to be Republicans and liberals to be Democrats. News sources like the New York
Times and MSNBC are liberal, while Fox News and the National Review are conservative.
Liberals tend to believe in gay rights, for abortion, no guns, and centralising the government;
although, conservatives like the ideas opposing the liberals. Liberals and Conservatives also
have another name: Liberals are called Left Wing and Conservatives are Right Wing . Those are
just some other names used to describe the two sides because people have a difficult time
remembering who supports what. The majority of people are more apt to have all or half the
qualities of the two sides. Physiologically, the human brain likes to hear what it agrees with. If a
news source appeals to the person once(keeping in mind that
Rama 3 news sources express only one view), they are more than likely to only watch that news
source or come back to it every so often. When a news source disagrees with a person they are not
inclined to watch that news source whenever

Explain The Terms Metaphor And Metonymy
Masterkolloquium Literary Theory
Winter term 2014/15

ESSAY
The terms metaphor and metonymy made a regular appearance in our survey of modern literary
theory. Discuss the significance that these terms assumed in the various schools of thought, and
comment on both continuities and changes within the various contexts. Do you still find the terms
useful for literary studies today?
Roman Jakobson s article Two Aspects of Language and Two Types of Aphasic Disturbances
changed dramatically the way literary critics use the terms metaphor and metonymy. Before that
article metonymy was a rhetorical trope barely distinguishable from synecdoche. Since Jakobson
introduced the dichotomy, metonymy was elevated to the status equal to metaphor, and viewed as
its contrary. Both metaphor and metonymy ceased to perform only as rhetorical tropes and became
the two principles defining relationships within language. This binary model has been developed,
applied or challenged in many studies from linguistics and rhetoric, to literary theory, film,
psychology. In this essay we will look at how the terms metaphor and metonymy were employed by
different schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul De Man in his article Semiology and Rhetoric explores the possibilities of metaphor and
metonymy relate to each other in a free play, not confined to their definitions. He takes a passage
from Proust s book and deconstructs the poles of the binary, proving that metaphor could be a
more powerful device than metonymy (which is the traditional view), but it is only possible with
the help of metonymic tools. The effect of this is that we no longer can have authoritative reading
as we are constantly aware that our practices of reading are not sufficient, we read with the help of
instruments the text provided

Threats Of The Real Estate Industry
To the industry More players in the market More satisfied parties in the industry More
innovations can be expected Less chances of misrepresentation More encouragement to
genuine buyers and sellers Threats to real estate industry No doubt, these online portals and e
commerce are providing ample opportunities to the buyers and sellers who want to deal in real
estate and it can flourish the real estate industry but at the same time, it poses some threats to this
industry which can be discussed as under. Agents may get eliminated: As discussed earlier, in
the modern way of dealing, the need of agent will be less and their role will be limited or they will
be eliminated from the system. Not only this, the online database of the... Show more content on

More developed infrastructure: The infrastructure of these online portals is very basic. There is
a need for more advanced infrastructure where the properties can be booked, rented, leased and
even bought and sold. It will require a lot of formalities like online contracts, government
permissions, change in law and payment systems etc. Online Scams: As buyers and sellers can
keep their identity secret and unrevealed, there are a lot of chances of scams in these portals.
People may take advance rent or any upfront payment and thereafter they may elope. In this case,
it will be difficult to rely upon these kinds of services. There is a need to make improvement in
this area too. Online Closing of transactions: Even today, you cannot close the transactions online.
There are a lot of big companies who are showing their interest in making this functionality
available. It requires a lot of funding and government permissions which is not easy. So, a lot of
work can be done in this area too. Conclusion The online technology is expanding day by day. Real
estate industry is that one where the information is required to make the deals. In the traditional
times, the agents were the source of information and their role was very prominent. Now, people
have started making transactions through online web portals which list and displays properties
online. Even today, due to the lack of infrastructure, norms, government permissions and funds etc.

Causes and Effects of Adult Obesity Essay
Introduction Although many individuals are uncertain about the increasing statistics associated
with obesity, more than seventy percent of men and virtually sixty two percent of women within
the United States adult population are overweight or obese (Wilmore, Costill, Kenney). Obesity
refers to the condition of having an excessive amount of body fat. If an individual s amount of
body fat becomes too excessive, he/she is at a much greater risk of developing life altering
diseases such as heart failure, hypertension, type II diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease,
osteoarthritis, etc. (Wilmore, et al., 2008). Heart failure is a condition in which the heart muscle
becomes too weak to maintain an adequate cardiac output to meet the body s... Show more content

Overweight is often misinterpreted as obesity, but it has been proven that individuals such as
bodybuilders and professional athletes can be overweight yet they do not suffer from obesity.
Obesity refers to just excessive body fat whereas overweight refers to excessive body weight
including water, bone, fat, and muscle. A certain amount of fat is needed to store energy, heat
insulation, shock absorption, and other functions, but when men reach more than twenty five
percent body fat, and women reach more than thirty percent they are considered obese. A person
s body mass index (BMI) is measured by dividing body weight in kilograms by the square of
body height in meters (Wilmore, et al., 2008). Individuals who suffer from obesity often
experience various symptoms such as difficulty sleeping, sleep apnea, shortness of breath,
gallstones, depression, and skin problems. Sleep apnea happens when an individual experiences
irregular breathing patterns or even loss of breath during sleep. Gallstones are hard, pebble like
deposits that form inside the gallbladder. They appear in many different sizes and shapes. Some
gallstones may be the size of a sand crystal whereas others may be the size of a golf ball.
Depression simply refers to a feeling of overwhelming sadness and a sense of hopelessness. In
addition to obesity leading to other health problems, obesity stems from numerous causes such as
genetic, environmental, and sociological factors. Other

  • 2. Slavery In The Antebellum American South Race as a social construct, a pseudo biological concept, and an identifying demographic has undeniably been ubiquitous in the history of human otherness. In particular, the ascribing of racial identities to a group, or racialization , has played a vital role in the conception and development of minority groups. This phenomenon continues to shape ideas about race and ethnicity, albeit in less dramatic ways than in the antebellum South. Nevertheless, people blinded by privilege claim that they are colorblind or that society has moved into a post racial paradigm. It is, therefore, especially relevant to examine processes of racialization that have defined and maintained the social concept of race throughout history. A prominent historical instance of racialization that influenced modern day race identity is the objectification and commoditization of black peoplein Southern slave markets of the antebellum era. As a consequence of the chattel principle, which defined a slave s existence as property of a slaveholder, Black Americans identities were permanently altered by those who used their positions of power to subjugate and dehumanize them, either deliberately or tacitly. Specifically through association between race and physical or mental ability, and false medicalization of issues in slave populations, slave traders, slaveholders, and others who endorsed chattel slaveryperpetuated the racialization of black slaves. • 3. Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools President Trump s choice for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was confirmed on February 7th, 2017, and her support for charter schools has become a priority in the administration. CNN reports that DeVos has been a strong advocate in the past for school choice, lobbying for charter schools in her home state of Michigan years prior to her confirmation. President Trump stated his education plan would put forth billions of dollars into school choice programs across the United States. Charter schools are publicly funded and independently run, in some cases operated by for profit and often do not hire unionized teachers a distinction that has put them at odds with teacher unions (Grinberg 2017). DeVos labels charter schools as an extension of public education, while critics of school choice point to both the unchecked power of charter school administrators, and the poor test scores of the students in Michigan charter schools the schools DeVos lobbied for in the past. School choice supporters anticipate the new administration to allocate both state and federal money for vouchers that can be used for a variety of schools including completely private, religious, and home schooling. However controversial, charter schools are experiencing a growth in popularity in locations such as Washington D.C., Arizona, Colorado, and Florida. The shift from public schools to charter schools could dramatically increase given the influx of potentially $20 billion into school choice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of The Gospel Of Wealth By Andrew Carnegie Response Paper: Andrew Carnegie The Gospel of Wealth was written by Andrew Carnegie in 1889. Carnegie used the essay to argue that individual capitalists were duty bound to play a broader cultural and social role and thus improve the world, though there were those that disagreed with him, writing their own share of essays in response and creating a lively debate (History Matters 1). Carnegie, unlike his peers, believed that it was the responsibility of the newly formed upper class, consisting of those who had made their own fortunes, to engage in acts of philanthropy. He believed that the best way to deal with the wealthinequality that resulted from their creation of their own fortunes was to redistribute their wealth in a manner that was not only responsible, but beneficial to all.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carnegie s essay came in in the early middle of this transformation, after which time he, and others like him, had recently made their own fortunes. Due to a lack of a separation between the wealthy and the poor, Carnegie was able to see the disparate nature of wealth and, being a God fearing man, created his Gospel of Wealth as a means of working to attempt to address the inequalities he saw, serving as a middle ground through which it was possible to still be a self made man while at the same time working to increase overall culture and appreciation for all. The libraries and the buildings and other works that Carnegie funneled some of his many funds into are still visible today, serving as a physical reminder not only of what a single individual can do with the right dedication and talent, but also serving as a reminder of a time when the value system within the country was markedly ... The movement, headed by the Texas Nationalist Movement and the Tea Party, is seeking to remove the state from the union and institute Texas as a new country. Many questions arise over the topic of secession covering topics such as economy, currency, population, and if Texas would be helped or hurt by leaving the United States federal government behind. It has been shown that Texas has a much larger population than many countries as well as gold to back a currency should it decide to create one. The Texas economy is extremely strong with a mass of exports and natural resources being gathered in the state. These natural resources tied with other products made in Texas give the state one of the strongest economies in the world. Even with all this knowledge the question over secession still persists. The Texas economy stands 12th in the world and stands as a reason that secession might be possible. From minerals to gemstones, oil to natural gas, and animal products to the creation of electrical equipment the Texas economy stands strong even when other parts of the world are struggling. Among the natural resources are 16 ports whose economic impact on the United States totals in the billions. For the past decade, Texas has been the top state for foreign exports. Measuring And Collecting The Right Measurement For Study The credibility of a study as evidence for practice is almost entirely dependent on identifying, measuring and collecting the right measurement for study (Houser, 2015). Having a reliable measurement strategy is critical for good evidence. The survey could also ascertain tank characteristics, tank maintenance and their proximity to fragile ecosystems, as well as provide up to date facility contact information. A further benefit of this provision is that it would make the results of the survey available to the public. Public availability of data provides transparency and can make citizens aware of the dangers in their communities. This in turn can assist citizens in making informed decisions about their health and for advocating for risk mitigation in their communities. Further, public awareness can be a catalyst for opening a dialogue between industry and citizens. Industry s knowledge that the public is aware of the risk may increase recognition of their responsibility to the citizens in their area and may motivate them to take precautions. Further, the public can play an import role in changing social norms and in building consensus for other regulations needed in the state. Additionally, open discourse about the risk of exposure to environmental hazards by specific populations or communities will create opportunities for the state and stakeholders to proactively pursue health equity. All too often, the disproportionate risk and impact of disasters are an afterthought. The passage of this provision will facilitate communication of risk throughout potentially impacted areas in general, and will also likely contribute to decreased disparities in risk. Important downsides to this provision are that it provides information only; that is it neither removes the hazard nor provides any direct action to mitigate it. Moreover, reporting of ... The day began with preconference; Ms. O described what we would be doing throughout the day, which was infection control, safety, and vital signs (#C1, #C4, #C6, #C10). With infection control, hand washing is the most important aspect. As nurses and healthcare professionals, we will encounter numerous individuals. To ensure that we do not contaminate another client and ourselves, it is vital for us to wash our hands (#C4, #C6). With safety, we were taught that it was crucial to ensure that you are performing care for the person we are suppose to by using patient identification. Patient wristbands, having the patient state their full name, and date of birth are the most effective way. Secondarily, safety goes beyond the parameters of just identifying the patient, we were informed about bed rails, bed position, and call lights (#C2, #C4). The last part of the day involved assessing vital signs, including; temperature (oral, rectal, axillary, and tympanic), assessing pulses, respiratory rates, blood pressure, pulse oximeter assessment, and measuring height and weight. Nurses use vital signs as a starting point and they can learn a lot a person and s/he ailments immediately from this information (#C2). • 13. Maslow s Theory Of Motivation Based On A Holistic Approach Maslow dealt with the psychological growth process, considered man as a biological organism, and began his study with the theory of motivation based on a holistic approach. The holistic approach paints a multidimensional whole picture of a person integrating the physical, mental, and spiritual through a growth perspective. According to Sengupta (2011), Maslow defines growth as the continuous development of talents, capacities, creativity, wisdom and character, the various processes, which bring the person toward ultimate self actualization (p. 102). Maslow did not ignore the spiritual dimension, but mainly focused on the biological nature of man. He believed the entire person, not just part of him is motivated. Maslow s motivational theory is based on the idea that human behavior is controlled through a number of developing fundamental needs that operates in a fixed sequence and needs are defined as a condition of deficit (Sengupta, 2011, p. 102). Needs are not always caused by shortfalls, however, they may be founded on an individual s understanding of inner strength and high ethical standards in order to understand their maximum potential. Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs pyramid consists of five basic levels of needs, progressing from physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self actualization. According to Robbins and Judge (2014), physiological and safety needs are lower levels needs that are predominantly satisfied externally whereas social, esteem, and ... • 15. Drug Experiment A. Drug A: After the cells are exposed to drug A, an increase in the amount of cyclic AMP is seen on the diagram. Since A increased the amount of cAMP above the basal level, A is an agonist. In this particular experiment, we do not see an agonist that leads to a higher increase in activity; we can thus assume that A is a full agonist. Drug B: When the cells were exposed to drug B at two different concentrations (10uM and 10 ВµM), no change in activity was noticed and it was equal to basal activity. This clearly signals that B is an antagonist. Then we examine the effect of drug B when used in combination with drug A. The amount of cyclic AMP has decreased as the concentration of drug B increased from 10 uM to 10 ВµM while the concentration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, drug D in combination with drug A does produce a lower activity than drug A alone, but this change is not concentration dependent (higher concentration of B does not lead to a decrease in activity). One way to explain this decrease is that drug D is a partial agonist. Partial agonists act as competitive antagonists in the presence of a full agonist (drug A in our case), depressing its ability to achieve the maximum possible effect. Alternatively, drug D could indeed be a competitive antagonist; we know that the parallel shift depends only on the Ka, the dissociation constant for an antagonist and [A], the concentration of the antagonist. The fact that the activity readings are equal at two different concentrations of Drug D (and thus no shift in the effect curve) could thus be explained by a very large dissociation constant. Mathematically, this scenario would lead to a ratio of [A] to Ka being close to zero for both drug D concentrations, eliminating the shift in effect curve and showing the same activity for both concentrations. Drug E: The data shows the decrease in basal signaling when the cells are exposed to drug E. Thus, we could assume that drug E is a inverse agonist. However, there is an alternative scenario where drug E is interfering with an endogenous agonist and leads to a decrease in background activity. (a) From the analysis above, we concluded that drugs B and C are competitive antagonists. Although to compare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There can never be complete certainty when assuming the thoughts of others; Jane Austen may have just added in Margaret Dashwood to Sense and Sensibilitybecause she felt like having a third character, and now in our present day, highschoolers are running around inventing dramatic and unique causes for this individual s existence. Nevertheless, I will attempt to answer two questions accurately in this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1995 film version of Sense and Sensibility, a major part of volume III is removed. Willoughby s entire apology and Elinor s subsequent feelings are simply passed off; Marianne falls ill, Mrs. Dashwood arrives, and Marianne miraculously returns to health. My first time watching this movie left me confused, as an entire chapter consisting of nearly fifty five hundred words was not there. Not only that, but the chapter provided clear remorse from Willoughby; while he still values money over love, he is penitent of some of the damage his poor choices inflicted, and he goes to apologize even when there is no need to. The big screen version instead shows Willoughby at the wedding of Marianne and Colonel Brandon, staring regretfully from afar. The first explanation that comes to mind would be for the sake of time. While the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility is two hours and twenty minutes, a miniseries consisting of three sixty minute episodes was released in 2008. The latter contains Willoughby s apology, while the former has no mention. While the miniseries had the room to smoothly explain such a story, the film could not add in the plea without it appearing to be shoehorned in. Furthermore, the second cause for nixing the scene would be to make Willoughby even more of a wicked libertine. Even when a girl he professed to love lay deathly ill, he did even pay a visit! Surely there is no justification for that, lest one say work is more important that human life. This move cemented the audience s hatred of Willoughby, and when he appeared the final time on screen, there was only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Argumentative Essay On Failure Failure is not a complicated idea. It is a vague idea, so the only thing complicated about it is defining it. People tend to over simplify the idea. Some say that failure is only a setback to a goal. Some stress the importance of embracing a failure, but fail to explain what that actually means. Others still believe that failure should be feared and avoided at all costs In my view, failure cannot be considered a setback. I think of it as more of a sign that one path wasn t exactly the right one to achieve their goal. Imagine a motionless man who watched as a train zipped by him. But from the reference point of another man who was on the train, the man moved backwards. The problem with life is that it has as much motion as the train, but is invisible to the human eye. If someone doesn t go towards where they want to be in life, life will pass them by with no sympathy. Everyone agrees that life is in motion, but no one knows where it s going. It moves in the simplest way that something can move, forward, but in no specific direction. In that sense, failure could never set anyone back, but only change their course. Everyone who has passion about what they re doing will think that they re doing the most to make themselves content, but things don t always work out according to plan. Failure doesn t close off all opportunity, it opens up a new way of doing thing with the experience of what went wrong in the past. HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT RELATED EMERGENCIES Introduction Heat exhaustion is one of several heat related emergencies that can be potentially fatal if not treated promptly and correctly. Heat related emergencies encompass three phases, which represent progressive worsening of symptoms and thus potential morbidity of the condition. These three phases include heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and ultimately heat stroke that without prompt treatment can result in serious injury or even death. Treatment of heat exhaustion and heat related emergencies is focused on prompt identification of symptoms and subsequent supportive treatment to reduce core body temperature and prevent potential complications associated with the condition. Education regarding identification of early signs of heat related emergencies has helped to reduced incidences of heat stroke, but current research has also found new ways to treat heat stroke and prevent complications associated with heat related emergencies. With this advent of new treatments outlooks for those suffering from heat stroke have improved, however the best treatment is still early identification and prevention of heat related emergencies. How Morals Were Shaped Through The Creation Stories How morals were shaped through the creation stories in the book of Genesis The first principle of value that we need to rediscover is this: that all reality hinges on moral foundations. In other words, that this is a moral universe, and that there are moral laws of the universe just abiding as the physical laws (Martin Luther King Jr.). Everyone around the world, regardless of gender, race, religion, and political views are defined by their own moral compass. Before, people may blindly take it that God is always right and that we should obey Him because we will be severely punished if we disobey. Now, people in general have become more open minded and analytical with what they read. For instance, the story depicts that the reason why Adam and Eve were punished because they ate the fruit that gave them knowledge of right and wrong. However, Adam and Eve did not know the difference between right and wrong before eating the fruit. For example, after eating the fruit, Adam and Eve knew it was wrong for them to be naked and tried to cover themselves. So was it right for God to punish Adam and Eve when they did not know that it was right or wrong to disobey Him? Is it moral to punish those who do not understand what is right and wrong, much less differentiate the two? In fact, the first story in Genesis shows how destructive God can be to those who do not obey His commands which raises questions about morality to the reader. Depending on the reader s interpretation, the story influences their moral compass. Several interpretations could be: It is morally wrong to disobey God and to disobey God means we will face dire consequences or It is morally wrong to disobey God, but was it unjust for God to punish those who are ignorant of what is ... According to the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development in 2016 in the United States, the annual hours actually worked per worker on their main job is 1,783 hours (OECD, 2017). The atmosphere of a workplace contributes to the mental and emotional wellness of its employees and the productivity of an organization, as a whole; therefore, it is important to establish consistent house rules or guidelines to communicate to both management and employees how to conduct themselves for the goodwill of the company and its people. Every person at an organization brings a diverse set of individual needs and motivations apart from the company s primary agenda. Despite their commitment to perform their specific work responsibilities while in the workplace, each person obligates himself or herself to non work urgencies that can produce interruptions within the boundaries of their required duty to an organization (Casper DePaulo, 2012). Such non work urgencies may involve a spouse or a child for a partnered employee; therefore, many organizations establish family friendly policies in consideration of a partnered employee s life outside of the workplace or the exceeding obligations of a person with parental responsibilities (Casper DePaulo, 2012, p. 232). Include a description of what is producing the signal as well as the reasoning behind how this could produce a signal. We know that electromagnetic radiation is produced by accelerating charges. In the radio transmitter, electrons oscillate up and down and are thus accelerating. An electron will exert a force on another electron when they are some distance away, like charges repel. This shows that the converts and the missionaries no longer respect the views and beliefs of the Igbo clan. • 44. What Is Pearl Symbolism In The Scarlet Letter Pearl is the love child of sin between an adultress and a minister. Throughout the book she is expressive and individual. The novel shows Pearl as she grows up, being unaccepted and shunned from society because of how she came into the world. She copes with this by accepting it and embracing the edge from the disapproval that society gives her. Campbell s article regarding The Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel Hawthorneexplains how the character Pearl represents femininity and women s sexuality. Pearl sticks out to the reader because of her abnormalities. One can begin to see the point Campbell is trying to make in the line, Pearl is the disruptive female supplement to the phallocentric economy; she disturbs the relationship to reality, ... The bright morning sun, therefore, shone on broad shoulders and well developed busts, and on round and ruddy cheeks, that had ripened in the far off island, and had hardly yet grown paler or thinner in the atmosphere of New England. There was, moreover, a boldness and rotundity of speech among these matrons, as most of them seemed to be, that would startle us at the present day, whether in respect to its purport or its volume of tone. (34) Women of the time were not petite and certainly not the definition of feminine. Pearl is young and beautiful, like her mother, making her different from the societal norm. Pearl s symbolism of femininity translates to her role as a symbol of women s sexuality as well. Pearl represents women s sexuality by respecting herself and being conscious of her choices in life. Pearl represents female sexuality not as a tender appeal to the male but as a threatening otherness to phallic sexuality (Campbell). News reporters know everything about an issue and have many ways to present their information to the public. People do not realize their opinions are influenced through the media s reportings, since no one has warned them. These reporters are often called the fourth branch of government (Gabbs) because of their actions. The media is responsible for conveying opinions through their reports, which does not allow the individual to analyze a situation to form their own opinions; therefore they are detrimental to the American society. Many news sources include their opinions through a simple technique of fabricating stories. Most news... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, the media was also capable of changing the attention from the people to the plane. People mainly talk about the plane instead of the missing family members, which were not given much respect through the media. Since the media creates opinions, they need a side to stick with. That is how the terms conservatives and liberals came to be. People consider conservatives to be Republicans and liberals to be Democrats. News sources like the New York Times and MSNBC are liberal, while Fox News and the National Review are conservative. Liberals tend to believe in gay rights, for abortion, no guns, and centralising the government; although, conservatives like the ideas opposing the liberals. Liberals and Conservatives also have another name: Liberals are called Left Wing and Conservatives are Right Wing . Those are just some other names used to describe the two sides because people have a difficult time remembering who supports what. The majority of people are more apt to have all or half the qualities of the two sides. Physiologically, the human brain likes to hear what it agrees with. If a news source appeals to the person once(keeping in mind that Rama 3 news sources express only one view), they are more than likely to only watch that news source or come back to it every so often. Explain The Terms Metaphor And Metonymy Masterkolloquium Literary Theory Winter term 2014/15 Professor: Dr. Laura Bieger Student: Anna Zaburdaeva Matriculation number: 3957299 31.03.2015 ESSAY The terms metaphor and metonymy made a regular appearance in our survey of modern literary theory. Discuss the significance that these terms assumed in the various schools of thought, and comment on both continuities and changes within the various contexts. Do you still find the terms useful for literary studies today? Roman Jakobson s article Two Aspects of Language and Two Types of Aphasic Disturbances changed dramatically the way literary critics use the terms metaphor and metonymy. Before that article metonymy was a rhetorical trope barely distinguishable from synecdoche. Since Jakobson introduced the dichotomy, metonymy was elevated to the status equal to metaphor, and viewed as its contrary. Both metaphor and metonymy ceased to perform only as rhetorical tropes and became the two principles defining relationships within language. This binary model has been developed, applied or challenged in many studies from linguistics and rhetoric, to literary theory, film, psychology. The effect of this is that we no longer can have authoritative reading as we are constantly aware that our practices of reading are not sufficient, we read with the help of instruments the text provided ... Obesity refers to the condition of having an excessive amount of body fat. If an individual s amount of body fat becomes too excessive, he/she is at a much greater risk of developing life altering diseases such as heart failure, hypertension, type II diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, etc. (Wilmore, et al., 2008). Overweight is often misinterpreted as obesity, but it has been proven that individuals such as bodybuilders and professional athletes can be overweight yet they do not suffer from obesity. Obesity refers to just excessive body fat whereas overweight refers to excessive body weight including water, bone, fat, and muscle. A certain amount of fat is needed to store energy, heat insulation, shock absorption, and other functions, but when men reach more than twenty five percent body fat, and women reach more than thirty percent they are considered obese. A person s body mass index (BMI) is measured by dividing body weight in kilograms by the square of body height in meters (Wilmore, et al., 2008). Individuals who suffer from obesity often experience various symptoms such as difficulty sleeping, sleep apnea, shortness of breath, gallstones, depression, and skin problems. Sleep apnea happens when an individual experiences irregular breathing patterns or even loss of breath during sleep. Gallstones are hard, pebble like deposits that form inside the gallbladder. They appear in many different sizes and shapes. Some gallstones may be the size of a sand crystal whereas others may be the size of a golf ball.
