Biodiesel and diesel mixtures were tested in a makeshift bomb calorimeter to measure their energy outputs and see how biodiesel content affected energy levels. Five mixtures with varying biodiesel percentages were ignited in a crucible and the temperature changes measured. The results showed that energy output gradually decreased as the percentage of biodiesel in the mixtures increased, with pure diesel providing the most energy and mixtures with more biodiesel providing less, indicating that biodiesel has a lower energy output than conventional diesel.
