The Domesday Book was a great land survey of England completed in 1086 AD under the orders of William the Conqueror to inventory the land and resources of England after the Norman invasion. It was stored in Winchester and later moved to Westminster and provided valuable information for taxation. The book was written in Medieval Latin and consisted of two volumes - Little Domesday covering three eastern counties and Great Domesday covering the rest of England.

2. What was The Domesday Book?
The Domesday Book is a great land survey which if from the 11th
century or 1086 AD. This was made by William the Conqueror this
was kept to show the land and the resources that England had at
the time.

William the Conqueror made it for potential tax assessment in case
of invasion so he would know which areas to tax the heaviest. Also
served as a economic and social state gauge after conquest.

Winchester,England but near the start 13th century it was moved
to Westminster,England.

It was information compiled into two huge books, that took the
course of over a year to gather. This gave King Williams the
information he needed if he need to raise taxes or other things for
instance if a building needed to be renovated .
