Mount Vesuvius is an active volcano near the city of Naples, Italy. It is best known for its eruption in AD 79 that destroyed the city of Pompeii. Vesuvius remains one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world due to the large population living near its slopes, including over 2 million people in the city of Naples. While its last eruption was in 1944, Vesuvius remains active today, posing a threat to the nearby communities.

1. The Dog of Pompeii

4. • In February 1, 1814, Mayon Volcano began its most
violent and deadly eruption to date. During the
eruption, some 1,200 people took refuge in the
stone church of Cagsawa. Unfortunately, all
perished when lahar and pyroplastic flows
engulfed the church. Only the belfry of the
Cagsawa church remains as a grim and silent
reminder of that fateful day. For almost two
hundred years, it has withstood the test of time
and the elements to become one of the most
recognizable landmark of Municipality of Daraga.

8. DANGERS TODAY
Mt. Vesuvius is still active today. It is the
only active volcano on the European
mainland. Its last eruption happened in
1944. The danger is that over 2 million
people live near Vesuvius and may be in
danger. I think that the reason that they
still live there is fertile soil.
