Volcanoes are mountains with deep holes that go into the Earth. Active volcanoes like Kilauea in Hawaii and Arenal in Costa Rica regularly erupt, while dormant volcanoes like Mount Fuji in Japan are sleeping but can erupt again. Extinct volcanoes like Vesuvius in Italy are not expected to erupt again, but sometimes dormant volcanoes can become active. Underwater volcanoes can create new islands like those in the Galapagos.

One afternoon the people from Pompeii heard a loud noise, when they
looked up they saw a cloud of ash. People ran but they couldn't breath.
Thousands of people died.
Pompeii was lost for 1,500 years. One day two persons found the ruins of
Pompeii, they found streets, shops and fine houses.
Lots of tourists visit the ruins of Pompeii every year.
