There are four types of volcanoes: active, dormant, extinct, and undersea. Active volcanoes such as Kilauea in Hawaii and Arenal in Costa Rica still erupt, while dormant volcanoes like Mount Fuji in Japan have not erupted in hundreds of years but could again. Extinct volcanoes like Vesuvius in Italy cannot erupt again. Undersea volcanoes can create new islands, like the Galapagos Islands off Ecuador's coast which were formed underwater and still experience eruptions.
2. There are volcanoes on land and under the
sea.
Active volcanoes erupted and can erupt
again.
Dormant volcanoes are sleeping.
Extint volcanoes can't erupt again.
3. Active volcanoes:
Kilauea is an active volcano in Hawaii. It is the most active in
the world. The island of Hawaii is growing bigger and bigger
because of the eruptions.
Arenal is an active volcano in Costa Rica. Tourists go to see
the volcano at night.
Dormant volcanoes:
Mount Fuji in Japan is dormant at the moment. Its last
eruption was in 1707.
Extinct volcanoes:
Anatahan is an island in the Pacific Ocean. Scientists said it
was extict but it erupted in 2003.
4. Vesuvius is an extinct volcano. It´s in Italy.
There was a terrible eruption in the past. There was a lot of ash . It was impossible to
breath and a lot of people died.
The ash covered the city of Pompeii.
Two men discovered the city in 1595.
They did lots of excavations and they discovered houses, streets , shops, sculptures,
paintings...
Today lots of people from all over the world visit the ruins of Pompeii every year.
5. The undewater volcanoes can grow so big that islands form.
The Galapagos islands are volcanic islands, they were formed under the sea. They are near
the coast of Ecuador. There are 13 big islands and 6 small islands. There are still eruptions in
the Galapagos islands.
