The digestive system breaks down food, extracts nutrients, and removes waste. It includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver, gallbladder and large intestine. Enzymes and acids in each organ help break down food into smaller molecules that can be absorbed and used for energy or cell growth. Undigested material then moves through the large intestine and exits the body.
