Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb Essay
Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb
Love in L.A., written by Dagoberto Gilb, is a story full of irony and multiple themes. The story is set
in Hollywood during the summer time. Written in third person objective, Love in L.A. guides the
reader along through the story as opposed to an omniscient point of view.
The story begins with Jake driving on the freeway. He is so enraptured by his daydream of better
possibilities that he ends up smacking the car ahead of him. Jake considers driving away but instead
he stops and finds out that the owner of the Toyota he hit was a beautiful girl. From there, Jake
switches into his smooth talker role with Mariana. Jake then tries to con her by saying he doesn t ...

He needed an FM radioIt would have crushed velvet interior with electric controlexotic colognes all of
these contribute to the theme of selfishness and greed. He does not need an FM radio but rather wants
one. Everything he wants contributes to his rapaciousness.
The most prevalent theme in this story is loneliness. Jake is obviously lonely, so much so that he
stoops to such pathetic lines as, I m kinda hoping so, just so it takes a little more time and we can talk
some. Or else you can give me your phone number now and I won t have to lay my regular b.s. on you
to get it later. His loneliness also shows when Gilb describes how, her hand felt so warm and soft he
felt like he d been kissed. Jake seems to crave the human intimacy of love, and yet all he does is flirt
with a woman whom he does not even care for enough to be truthful to. This is also situational irony.
Corresponding with this theme of loneliness is the concept that everyone is looking for love. This need
is very evident in Jake and is also displayed in Mariana. No intelligent female would even relent a
little in the face of such an apparent swindler as Jake. However, Mariana must be a little flattered and
lonely because she smiles at his attentions and even makes small talk with him.
Among these themes, lies another one; there are infinite possibilities. Any one person can meet their
match at any time. For Jake, Mariana could have

It is challenging to acquire strategic information technology (IT) alliances properly. Devoid of
appropriate outsourcing methods, the threat of occupational fraud escalates (Association of Certified
Fraud Examiners [ACFE], 2006). Nevertheless, companies employ outsourcing for several strategic
motivations (Bass, 2013). Outsourcing assists businesses to concentrate on core competencies,
increase performance, diminish capital investment expenses, and realize increased revenues
(Ghodeswar Vaidyanathan, 2008). Any form of fraud or corruption in the selection or management of
outsourcing arrangements is inefficacious (ACFE, 2006). Corruption schemes such as conflicts of

Dna Isolation Research Paper
DNA Isolation, Quantification, and Visualization
DNA isolation is a process of DNA purification through physical and chemical means. DNA was
protected within the nuclear membrane of B. rapa, which was surrounded by a cell membrane and cell
wall. Mechanical and chemical lysis of the cell was necessary to break open the cells and solubilize
the membranes to isolate the DNA. Mechanical lysis, which consisted of grinding the leaves with a
pestle, broke down the cell wall. Chemical lysis, through the use of lysis solution, broke down the
lipid base membranes. The lysate was placed inside the Zymo spin IV spin filter to remove chunks of
debris from the solubilized cell components. A binding buffer was added to the collection tube that
held DNA,

Analysis Of The Book The Of Lakeview Park
Having realized he dropped his smart phone somewhere in the vast flora of Lakeview park, Julian was
berating himself. Not only did he face the daunting terrain, it was getting dark very fast. Not willing to
give up his smart phone to the wild or the darkness Julian prepared for the worst. He grabbed a
flashlight, knife, a small bottle of oleoresin capsaicin spray and asked his mother to drive him, two
accidents left Julian unable to drive, his mind is left unable to focus under the effects of the drugs
prescribed to help him with his symptoms. The drive to Lakeview park was surreal, what was once a
veritable paradise during the day became a place of nightmares at night. Beautiful oak trees twisted
into dark phantasms. Julian left his Mother Julie behind in case he didn t come back in half an hour.
Julian knew the terrain well even at night he was able to retrace his steps. The first place where the
phone might be was a small bog by the freeway. During his long walk he heard men in the darkness,
Julian knew there were many homeless who stayed at the park at night unwilling to be noticed he
turned off the small L.E.D. flashlight and blended in with the darkness silently yet quickly moving
through Lakeview park. Once he got to the swampy bog he started calling his missing phone from
another cell hoping to hear it ring through the darkness. Getting nowhere he began to make his way
south, but then Julian lost his balance on the mire and fell right on his tailbone then his back

Shayla Smith
Summer Swimming Incident
Shayla Smith stayed a few nights of summer vacation with her friend, Tamara, whose Mom and Dad,
Bob and Susan Tuttle, took Shayla and their daughter, Tamara, camping. Shayla s mom was happy for
the break, as Shayla is dyslexic, and that has caused her to have a difficult time at school.
Consequently, she acts out, and is a handful for her single mom!
The campground is small, but has a fun mini golf game, hiking trails, and has a pool, but no diving
board, and no lifeguard; it is a sand bottom pool, fed by an artesian well, so it is clean, but murky.
The owners, Owen and Dolly Jones, who own and operate the campground, don t have any security on
the premises because they are a mom and pop operation, and the ... Show more content on

Mary was cooperative during the interview and was very responsive to my questions. However, she
did not bring in any documentation though we had requested her medical bills, etc.
Mary repeatedly asked me how long the case would take and mentioned her large bills from Shayla s
accident several times. Mary is a single mother, and Shayla s father is not really in the picture and
provides no financial support for Shayla s care. Mary does not have any kind of insurance.
I found Mary to be a nice looking woman though a bit frazzled. She was articulate but talked a little
loudly. I think she would make a good impression on a judge or jury, but she is a little anxious to score
the big one for Shayla s injuries.

Fact Questions:
Where is the campground located?
Who was supervising Shayla and Tamara?
What is the layout of the pool? How deep and large is it?
Were there any signs around the pool?
Is there a lifeguard on duty?
Have there been previous incidences at this campground pool?
I am not sure Mary and Shayla have a viable case, as more investigation is needed. Recommend that

What Does The Parables Say About The Kingdom Of God
Journal 8
Psalm 103:19 reads, The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over
all. As highlighted in this verse, the Kingdom of God spans across both earth and heaven and rules
over them with equal authority. Much of what we know about the Kingdom of God comes from the
parables Jesus told during his earthly ministry. On the surface, it may be hard to determine just what
Jesus is saying about the Kingdom of God. By considering the deeper meanings of parables, however,
it is possible to see exactly what the parables reveal about the Kingdom of God and what
hermeneutical implications that has for our lives.
To discover what the parables say about the Kingdom of God, they must first be interpreted. Jesus
himself can be found saying that parables contain mysteries on the inside. Sometimes, however,
finding the deeper meaning for a parable can be tricky. To make the task of interpreting parables
easier, it helps to find out Jesus audience. Jesus did not intend for us to be unable to understand his
parables. Rather, he fully intended for them to shed light on the Kingdom of God, sometimes we just
need to dig a little deeper with an open heart and open eyes.
After interpreting the parables that deal with the Kingdom of God, it is possible to determine some
characteristics of the Kingdom of God. With Jesus arrival, he brought with him the Kingdom, hence
the reason he is explaining it to people via parables. While Jesus already brought the Kingdom of God,
it is also not here yet. God s kingdom reconciliation has begun on this earth but will not be completed
until Jesus comes again to finish it completely. Jesus first coming was the beginning of the end for the
Kingdom of God. Beyond that, Jesus reveals many other things about the Kingdom of God. For
example, from the mustard seed parable, the Kingdom of God is like the nature of a mustard seed in
that it started small but is growing very large. In addition, Jesus explains the four different responses
people have to the Kingdom of God in the parable of the sower by explaining the outcome of seed
planted on four different types of soil. Some do not understand it, some fall away after troubles, some
become unfruitful because of

By getting rid of animals in circuses, it will be safer for both the animals and the audience. Circuses
often allow members of the public to feed, pet, and even ride the elephants. This is a fun way to draw
the crowds and allow them to interact with the animals one on one, however, it is very risky to the
audience s heath; they just don t know it because they aren t being informed. Circus elephants have
been diagnosed with human strain of Tuberculosis (TB), which can infect other animals, the trainers,
and the audience. Because Tuberculosis is an airborne disease which can easily spread through tiny

Brian Mulroney tied Canada closer to the United States On September 17th, 1984 Martin Brian
Mulroney became the 18th Prime Minister of Canada (see fig1).
Fig. 1. Brian Mulroney s first year in office (1984), he led the first conservative majority government
in 26 years.1
As the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, he developed a close relationship with
U.S President Ronald Regan; both men shared a similar conservative philosophy. As Canada s Prime
Minister, Mulroney sought closer ties with the United States, on issues such as trade policies and

As Mulroney came to office in 1985, he dismantled the FIRA and replaced it with Investment Canada,
a new system which he believed would encourage suitable foreign investment. FIRA was criticized by
those who concerned about American economic influence, since it almost approved every application
it received. At the time, in some industries, such as the petroleum and rubber products industries,
foreign control exceeded ninety per cent. Over three fourths of this control was held by United Sates
investors.6 These new and old policies brought better and higher rate of business income between
Canada and the United Sates, which resulted in closer ties between the two countries. In 1987,
Mulroney opened up negotiations that would eventually lead to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA)
between Canada and United States. The FTA was signed on October 4th, 1987 in hopes of improving
trade transactions between the two countries (see fig2).

Benito Mussolini was a pompous Italian dictator who strived and accomplished in making Italy a
fascist state. There are various factors that lead to the popularity and power of the despot leader such
as the outcomes of the Treaty of Versailles, the inefficient government and democratic system, fear of
the Blackshirts, and the poor economy. Italy fought alongside the Allies during World War One, for
this reason the Italian government was assured in the Treaty of London to receive parts of different

many regions remained impoverished. In northern Italy, industrial workers formed unions in order to

against the landowners. Although, Italy did make a few advances in the North such as the first Fiat
factor opening in Turin, the south still remained in poverty. Additionally, Mussolini increased his
popularity by supporting both the working class and the industrial capitalists. He promised an eight
hour day job for the working class and dropped enquiry of the profits made during the Great War. As a
result, many individuals would seek Mussolini as a leader who would bring economic expansions to

Last year the U.S. economy was strong and nearly every part of it was growing and doing well.
However, things changed. Most economists loosely define a recession as two consecutive quarters of
contraction, or negative GDP growth. On Monday 26, the government officially declared that the U.S.
has been in recession since March. (CBS Market Watch. U.S. Officially in a recession. Rex Nutting.

However, because of aggressive action by the Federal Reserve and Congress it will be short and mild.
The economy will return to sustained, positive growth in the first half of 2002.
Future Outlooks
The Federal Reserve is doing all that it can help the economy recover. They have cut the interest rate
ten times this year. The rate now lies at a 40 year low of 2%. Lowering the interest rates will
ultimately excite consumer demand in the economy. Companies will expand and increase use of debt
as a result of the low borrowing rates. Coca Cola can borrow money for investing in other products as
the interest rates are low. It can use the borrowing on research of new products or technology. As

Rapid Climate Change Events During The Period Between 10ka...
The last glacial period has encountered numerous large magnitude, rapid climate change events;
characterising the period between 10ka and 50ka (Steig, 1999). During this period was the Last
Glacial Maximum (LGM), which occurred approximately 21ka, a glacial period defined by changes in
greenhouse gases, sea level and ice sheets (Otto Bliesner et al., 2006). In comparison the mid
Holocene occurred approximately 6000 years ago, during the current interglacial. The Holocene
period is regarded as relatively muted in terms of signals of climate change, with changes primarily
associated with changes in seasonal solar radiance (Otto Bliesner et al., 2006; Steig, 1999).
Models have been constructed in order to replicate the past climates, with specific reference to The
Community Climate System Model: Version 3 (CCSM3), aimed to define continental scale dynamics,
variability and climate change (Collins et al., 2006). With the use of models the environmental
variation between the LGM and mid Holocene periods can be construed. Roche et al (2007) refers to
the LGM as the classic benchmark for models, enhanced by the use of proxy data associated with
ocean surfaces, vegetation, oceanic circulation and atmospheric conditions.
Clark et al (2009) presented the extent of the LGM, with growth of ice sheets to their maximum extent
occurring between 33ka and 26.5ka; primarily in response to climate forcing from decreases in
northern summer insolation, tropical Pacific sea surface

Summary Of What s That Smell In The Kitchen
What s That Smell in the Kitchen? What s that Smell in the Kitchen? is a poem written by Marge
Piercy in 1982. Most all women can relate to this poem on so many levels; as for the men, they could
learn a few things. All over America women are burning dinners food they re supposed to be bringing

gourmet meals for their families nightly. The poem tells about a woman who feels outraged, jaded,
and unappreciated by her husband. The first example of outrage is anger sputters in her brainpan,

Carbonized despair presses like a clinker from a barbecue against the back of her eyes (11 12). Once
again, she uses an analogy of burning something over slow fire to show how she is upset with the
situation. Clinker is the substance that is used to make cement. To imply something such as, clinker
against the back of her eyes, shows feelings of being weighted down and hard to even open her eyes to

removed without struggle and force. If she wants to serve him anything it is a dead rat with a bomb in
its belly ticking like the heart of an insomniac (13 15). She wants her husband to feel the same way

Essay about Strategic Use of Dialogue in Euripides Medea
Strategic Use of Dialogue in Euripides Medea
Euripides employs the technique of dialogue between two solo actors on stage throughout Medea to
dramatize the core values underlying these conversations. In particular, through the conversations that
Medea holds with three different males, she shows herself to be a person of great intellect. Females
were rarely valued for their intelligence because the Athenians had a complacent pride in the
superiority of the Greek masculinity (page 641 ). Men and women were considered to have very
different roles in society with men being the far superior species. Thus, Euripides uses Medea s [Note

Thus, Medea gains control of the conversation, and she is able to make Kreon conform to her agenda.
Throughout this dialogue, Medea : I maintains her composure, which allows her intelligence to
become apparent through her persuasive speech.
Yet the way in which Medea boldly interacts with Kreon would most likely be a shocking sight for the
audience. Remember that Kreon is the King of Corinth, the most powerful man in the nation state. Yet
Medea, a foreign woman, is standing before him in an attempt to persuade him to alter his decision
about her exile. Furthermore, Medea manipulates their conversation, so that Kreon will verify her
ultimate wish. As the importance of the discussion increases, the dialogue becomes a series of single
lines spoken back and forth between Medea and Kreon. With the level of intensity rising, Medea first
seems to plead with Kreon to allow her to remain in Corinth permanently. Kreon refuses the proposal
because he knows her to be a powerful woman capable of great evils; however, she then states that her
true desire is to stay in Corinth for this one day (337). This seems like a minor request to Kreon, so he
surrenders his will and grants Medea the right to remain in Corinth for one more day. Thus, Kreon
gives Medea the window of time that she needs to murder his young daughter and himself. Kreon s
decision will lead to his demise and is the stepping stone on which Medea will be able to accomplish
her revenge in

Routine Treatment For MRSA
Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus; MRSA
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH) Staphylococcus Aureus
(S. Aureus) was first discovered in the 1880s. The S. Aureus infection caused pain on site, boils, and
scaled skin. The S. Aureus infection can cause bacterial pneumonia or bacteria in the blood stream
which can have fatal effects. In the 1940s the use of the antibiotics such as penicillin became a routine
treatment for the infection. The consistent treatment using antibiotics lead to the bacteria evolving and
becoming resistant to the drugs that were fighting the bacteria. In the late 1950s scientist developed

doctors and scientists are strategizing and researching to prevent the development of MRSA. One
strategy that is currently in clinical trial stages is the treatment of simple CA MRSA cases with off
patent antimicrobial medications. This will limit the MRSA bacterias exposure to the more commonly
relied upon medications and hopefully reduce the chance of it developing more resistance. Current
research may even change how MRSA is treated in the future. Scientists are analyzing how the MRSA

recently discovered Phenol Soluble Modulin (PSM) Proteins in MRSA bacteria. It is believed that
these proteins play a key role in the strength and severity of MRSA infections. The PSM proteins
destroy white blood cells and most other immune cells. Without these cells the body cannot protect
itself from MRSA. Scientists today hope to create a drug that can prevent the PSM proteins from
functioning. If this can be accomplished, the severity and threat of MRSA will be greatly

An Introduction Of Navajo Constellations
An Introduction to Navajo Constellations Throughout our existence, mankind has looked up to the
stars with a fantastical wonderment that excites a feeling of the unknown. In order to understand the
heavens above us, ancient cultures created grand mythologies utilizing valiant heroes, gods, and life
practices and then imbedded these stories into the stars in the form of constellations. One of these
cultures is the Navajo Native American tribe that resided in the southwest region of the United States.
By viewing these constellations and the myths behind them, we can learn about what they Navajo held
scared and how they viewed the world around them. An important aspect of Navajo culture is the time
period in which traditional stories can be told. Stories of the sky which include the moon, sun, and
stars can only be told during the winter months which is regarded as the time from the first first,
usually in October, until the first thunderstorm, usually in late February. It is currently winter as this is
being written so the following information falls in accordance with Navajo tradition. We ask that this
only be read and shared during the appropriate time period to respect the traditions of a most noble
people. The Navajo are the largest federally recognized Native American Indian tribe in the United
States. The Diné Bikéyah or Navajoland encompasses 27,000 square miles residing within Arizona,

The Validity Of Novelty
Novelty refers to things that are new and unusual to the general public, and with novelty there is a
need to know more about it and be able to categorize it in some way. As human beings, we are
ridiculously curious and have this need to give everything its place in a way. When it comes to the
subject of transgender identities those two traits tend to cause some issues. Though curiosity is not a
bad thing necessarily and it is actually good that people would want to learn more about something
that is new to them, the problem with how this curiosity is approached. When curiosity is applied to

potential for a product. A product might be imported with the intention to sell at stores like Target
Stores, but because of various reasons, the product may not have done well in those markets and
ended up in liquidation and sold at a Dollar Store. Reasons such as poor marketing efforts, lack of
foreign exchange may have made it difficult to initiate a roll out of the product, the expense of
transportation of the product as well as duties and the inevitable markups that imports incur (304).

Sulfide Mining Pros And Cons
Imagine drifting slowly on a canoe while fishing one of Minnesota s crystal clear waters on a
beautiful, sunny day. Now imagine being interrupted by the loud, ongoing sounds of drilling and being
told the fish were too dangerous to eat. This is only one of many potential harms of sulfide mining.
PolyMet, a new mining company would like to bring sulfide mining, also known as copper nickel
mining to Minnesota. This would involve the extraction of copper and various other metals from
sulfide, hence the name. The sulfide that comes out of this type of mining can have serious
consequences on the environment. Events that occurred in the past and facts mentioned in the books

For instance, transporting the materials from the mines from place to place can lead to the roads being
congested, putting a strain on the roads. Evidence of this is shown in Fractured Land when Lisa is
observing a high way. She writes of various trucks involved in the fracking industry creating traffic
and putting wear and tear on the roads of U.S. Highway two (55). Many of these mines are in more
rural areas where roads were not made with the intention of there being as much pressure on the roads
as the activity with the mines creates. This means the increased activity on the roads results in them
breaking down. The same goes for these trucks as it does for the movement of vehicles shipping in
materials from different nations for the fracturing to take place. More congested roads also means
greater odds for accidents. This is evident when Westburg, the Fractured Land author writes of an
accident that occurred along U.S. Highway 2. Multiple trucks collided until one of them crashed into a
tanker trailer with crude oil. This vehicle exploded and burned for many hours, resulting in the closing
down of the entire highway (Westburg 141). Because the majority of these mines are built in areas
where the roads are not made to suit traffic, the roads are too narrow. This ultimately leads to a rise in
tragic accidents. Also, along with more goods being mined comes more products to be shipped over
seas. This would inevitably lead to more pollution. For instance, In 2013, transportation contributed
more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons
emitted into our air (Union). This is tainting both the environment and human health, as the only
atmosphere the world relies on is being tainted by globalization. The trucks and planes involved in
shipping the metals from place to place would mean more fossil fuel

This Lime-Tree Bower My Prison Essay
Samuel Taylor Coleridge once asserted that poetry is the blossom and the fragrance of all human
knowledge, human thoughts, human passions, emotions, language
Coleridge s view of poetry epitomises the value poetry has for our modern society. Poetry conveys
complex, relevant issues through different styles of poetry. Coleridge was a prominent member of the
Romanticism movement of the nineteenth century.
The Romanticism movement emphasised the individual s experience and the healing power of nature.
Some key features of Romanticism were idealism and focus on emotional passions. Romantic poets
created imaginative atmospheres and believed that nature and humanity were interconnected.

This is especially evident in Coleridge and Cummings poems; This Lime Tree Bower My Prison and
anyone lived in a pretty how town , respectively. These poems epitomise the different feelings of love,
resentment, selfishness and happiness.
The conversational style of This Lime Tree Bower My Prison creates a connection between the reader
and the poet. Coleridge uses a lime tree as a metaphor for prison, illustrating how everyday objects
can have different meanings. He exaggerates his feelings as he says Friends, whom I may never see
again! (Coleridge 1797). Nature is connected to his feelings of joy as he says and happiness,
highlighting the effect of nature on humanity.
Cummings defies grammatical norms which furthers his poem s message of American life. He
represents social norms as he says someones married their everyones (Cummings 1940). The common
fear of being forgotten is portrayed in a nonchalant way as the speaker says i guess anyone died one
day (Cummings 1940). He uses parentheses to indicate shifts in tone and he doesn t follow the rules of
grammar. This makes the poem attractive to the reader and influences their style of poetry. Cummings
techniques encompass Romanticism and common feelings of

Community Collaboration Paper
Community collaboration and leadership, with emphasis upon entrepreneurial leadership, and the role
of sustained dialog in the application of economic development and growth in rural regions, are the
subjects of this essay. Multi community collaboration is a broader, more horizontal interaction of
people to meet their common needs. This process is a popular strategy for rural development
(Wilkinson, 1992). It is an emergent process that does not just occur, but evolves through a complex
and dynamic integration of ecological, social and psychological factors (Wilkinson, 1992). Because

Though a private, therefore, closely held initiative, a project of the scope planned could have never
gotten off the drawing board without the input, support and guidance of local leaders. Thousands of
hours of discussion, planning and work have gone into this master plan development. Though self
interested, ethical, transformational, global leadership can present new and innovative ways to bring
growth and development to a region, with, or without federal or state government as its principal
benefactor as Bridger asserts. In regions that have had no appreciable growth or development in over
65 years, leadership, the creation and funding of thousands of high quality jobs, is transformational. In
majority poor, black, underserved communities in the US, waiting on the federal or state government
to change ones condition, is no longer an option. Instead, Korshing s assertion of adaption is the key.
Notwithstanding, the approval of the local elite, leaders converged and have succeeded in acquiring
funding to transform a region, a Bridger assertion, proven incorrect. Innovative planning, sustained
dialog with local leaders and entrepreneurial leadership will soon yield over 100 thousand jobs, impact

Corn-Fed Beef Vs Corn
In the society today, most people eat more of organic food to food produced with chemicals. This
means people rely on products that are 100 percent natural. One of the most natural food eaten by
Americans is meat. As a matter of fact, most of the meat eaten today originates from cattle. To make
maters worst, it has issues when it comes to production. In most feed yards, cattle s are fed grain to
grow fatter and bigger before being slaughtered, the conditions are terrible and horrifying. Thing
brought up a lot of questions within me. I wondered why cattle s deviated from eating grass to corn
and why they did? Do the cattle s suffer from infection after eating the corn? Should human be

The law of demand says that the higher the price, the lower the quantity demanded, and the lower the
price, the higher the quantity demanded. According to the food market sector, grass fed beef is higher
than cattle raised by grain. Therefore, because of the high competition placed on corn fed beef, the
price of grass fed beef remains low. The famers also cause the low price of grass fed beef, in the sense
that they try to compete with the famers of corn fed beef. However many of the famers seem to ignore
the price of raising the cattle. The cost of these beef affects the environment. Firstly, this beef causes
pollution as a result of CAFOS. The waste product produced from CAFOS are mostly realized into the
river, stream, and lake. The waste product contains ammonia, this gas has an unpleasant odor, which
can be detectable even at low concentrations. When it contains a high concentration, it becomes
harmful to vegetation. When this gas is flushed into a water body, it is more serious, because it is very
toxic to aquatic organisms. However, with this it gradually degrade the environment and all its natural
value. This is caused by the food the cattle is raised with grain (WBGH Education Foundation).
Amount spent on antibiotics for these cattle is another most avoidable matter. Health wise, the cost of
making the cattle grow quickly from different methods of feeding, destroys the immune system of the
animal. Because of the bacteria that is caused by these method. In other words, whatever disease an
animal has, will transfer to his/her prey. That means it also can affect the human system. Not just
affecting but also destroying it leading the person to death. E. coli (Escherichia coli 0157: H7), is an
example of the disease that can be transferred from the cattle to his/ her prey. When boosting the cattle
immune system, microbes becomes resistant, more antibiotics are used to reduce this. All this and

Online Dating Services and Mister Wrong Essay
As a happily pre engaged woman, with a pre engagement ring, I have no reason to scan the listings of

The King s Character in a Cinematic Production of...
Although labeled as a history, the strength of Shakespeare s Henry V lies not in the events that occur
in the play, but in the delicate portrayal of the characters involved. Shakespeare s audience would have
already known the story of Henry V s campaign on France and thus would have had no reason to
watch a play that simply re enacted past events. Therefore, the appeal of such a play, as well as the
themes and the content, would have been dependent largely on the characters themselves.
It is obvious that the most prominent character is the man whose name the play carries Henry V. The
entire story centers on his deeds. He serves as the catalyst for the action, the driving force behind all
that takes place. Without him there is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subtleties of such ambiguities make any direction a complex task as one tries to reconcile
conflicting viewpoints. In doing so, there are two widely respected cinematic versions of Henry V that
may be considered: Laurence Olivier s 1944 production and Kenneth Branagh s 1989 version.
Olivier s version is pure patriotism, while Branagh s is grittier and much darker. Olivier s is more
stylized and innocent, giving it a more chivalric and fairy tale atmosphere. Branagh s, on the other
hand, is more realistic in its portrayal of Henry s invasion of France. However, as Shaw points out, in
each case the king emerges as the hero through cinematic and textual editing decisions. The most
glaring omission common to both is Henry s order to kill the French prisoners taken at the Battle of
Agincourt. This scene is omitted because it is one of those textual ambiguities that may leave an
audience of the original play uncertain as to the quality of man that the Henry is. This would have
been in opposition to both Branagh and Olivier s heroic depictions.
This would not, however, be the route chosen for this production. Henry V, as Norman Rabkin
describes it in Shakespeare and the Problem of Meaning, is a work whose ultimate power is precisely
the fact that it points in two opposite directions, virtually daring us to choose

Jimmy Valentine was dedicated to living an honest life because he was earning money through
legitimate means. In the story, Jimmy says I ve got a nice store. I m making an honest living. This
statement means that Jimmy owned a store which he was using to earn money legitimately, instead of
stealing it from banks. Jimmy stated that he would not even think of taking another person s money,
even if it were the easiest money to steal. This shows that Jimmy was very dedicated to earning money
legitimately, or else he would have still been tempted to steal money. In the text, the narrator says that

Organizational Norms And The Performance Of Virtual Teams...
Introduction
Individual commitment to a group effort that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society
work, a civilization work. Vince Lombardi
Rules are meant to be broken! This phrase is embraced by innovative technology to stimulate
creativity and out of the box type thinking. This mentality can also serve as an Achilles heel for any
team that fails to establish ground rules prior to commencement of a project. Virtual teams without
behavioral norms are divisive and less productive than their peers. This paper will discuss ten
behavioral norms that are essential components to the performance of virtual teams, along with, an
action plan.
Norms
In high performing teams, the cost of speaking out is lowered, the cost of silence is raised. Nick Pope
According to Watkins (2013), the first five task norms drive production efforts of virtual teams:
1. Establish the team members early on and get them together. Communication is the key to
establishing trust, personal and professional relationships and a strong basis for team effectiveness.
Use collaboration tools such as video conferencing and team blogs to increase socialization among
members. If it is possible to get the team members together, use this time to build relationships and
team identity. Bring the team together and schedule regular follow up meetings.
2. It is imperative that tasks and processes be thoroughly explained along with the associated goals
and the roles. Team leaders must

Crimes Scenes And Evidence Gathering Underpin Every Police...
Crimes scenes and evidence gathering underpin every police investigation. From the moment police
arrive to a scene to the moment a verdict is decided upon the offender, the way in which crime
scenes are established and evidence gathered holds significant weight on the outcome. By discussing
the provided scenario along with the issues surrounding the establishment of crime scenes, the way
in which evidence is gathered, legislative and policy powers and requirements, and the phenomena
of Locard s Principle, we can establish an understanding of best practice which ultimately will
positively impact the final outcome of a verdict.
General identifying statement
Ensuring a crime scene is established in the wake of an incident lays the foundation for an effective
investigation. Horswell, J. (2004) describes a crime scene as simply a place which is connected to a
crime or incident, either primary or secondary in nature. A primary crime scene being that of where
the crime occurred and where the majority of evidence can be found, while secondary being that of
where evidence relating to the crime may exist elsewhere (p. 32). In relation to the provided
scenario, the house in case is the primary crime scene; as this is where the incident has occurred and
where the majority of evidence will be located. A secondary crime scene is not present in the scope
of the provided scenario, hypothetically however, if stolen property of the victim was to be found

The War On The Home Front
In a very short amount of time, America went a serious of events which had great influence on the
home front. Those two events were WWII and the Cold War. Civil rights, the cultural norms, and
society at large, had changed greatly during a short amount of time due to these events. The United
States was fight a war on two fronts, both at home and overseas. The wars overseas had great
influence and impact on the successes that would come over time on the home front. Without these
wars and times of trials and tribulations, the civil rights movement and society as a whole, would most
likely have not had made as large of a shift as it did. During WWII, two groups that had it very rough
on the home front, was African Americans and women. Both of these groups faced many challenges,
but both seen the war as a gateway into regular, white male society. With the advent of WWII, African
Americans saw a further opportunity to press their cause. Hundreds of thousands went to war, with the
expectation that their service would earn them equal rights, once and for all. (Many Rivers to Cross)
When reflecting on the past though, African Americans have fought in every American war since the
revolution, and yet they were still bound by unjust laws. (October 8th Lecture) Both groups had
already overcame many diversities in the pasts, but were faced with an opportunity to possible
triumph over the ones they had left. African Americans before the war, also had little chance of

The Case Of Jones V. Tsige
The case of Jones v. Tsige, 2012 ONCA 32 was a way for the law to see that law does indeed need to
change with society. It deals with tort law and the right of action for intrusion upon seclusion existing
in Ontario. It is based on personal privacy and the court heard that the defendant (Tsige) viewed the
plaintiff s (Jones) personal banking records 174 times within a four year window. The plaintiff and the
defendant did not personally know each other but worked at different branches of the Bank of
Montreal in Ontario. The plaintiff was in a common law relationship with the defendant s ex husband.
When the plaintiff pursued litigation, the judge dismissed it because there was no existence of a tort

Going through these three prerequisites; (1) the defendant did in fact know what she was doing, so the
act was intentional; (2) the defendant had no lawful justification for looking through the plaintiff s
private banking records; and (3) any reasonable person would feel the way the plaintiff did if someone
they did not know was looking into their bank records 174 times in a four year period. The court also
ruled that in order for a case to qualify under intrusion upon seclusion, the act must have been
deliberate and significant (again, the defendant knew what she was doing, and did it 174 times). Many
people are not on board with this being recognized as the limits set by the court aren t clearly
definitive (Gardiner, 2012). One quote that truly shows how this tort being recognized is good news is
this: The term legalization is used to describe the process by which norms are moved from the social
to the legal level. Not all social norms become law, in fact, only certain norms, but not others are
chosen to be incorporated into the criminal code. Austin T. Turk suggests that there are certain social
forces involved in the legalization and creation of legal norms: moral indignation, a high value on
order, response to threat, and political tactics. (Steven Vago, 2009).

If you do not know a pipe has frozen and has been damaged, when the frozen water thaws enough to
allow water flow to return, this is when unexpected flooding can occur due to a burst pipe. Frozen
water applies thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch on a pipe, so it is no wonder that they
sometimes break. If you happen to be away from home when this happens, it spells disaster.
If you have a pipe that burst unexpectedly, shuts off the valve to that pipe. You may need to turn off all
the water to your home. The more quickly you can get the water off, the less flooding there will be. If
appliances or any electrical thing is getting wet, turn off the electricity first, then the water. After you

If plumbing is not your thing, then call one. Hopefully, you only have one pipe that has burst,
although, there could be more than one. Inspect all your pipes before turning any water back on, and

The early results: Revenues from Abbott hospital ran about 15 20 percent below projected levels.
Revenues from surgery/patient care days declined 62 percent. Employee morale was down and the

Question 1
In recent years, Amsterdam s energy system has been revolutionized by decentralization and process
flow controls. According to Ger Baron, rather than a single energy provider, Amsterdam now has over
600. The city can now limit power outages to certain neighborhoods, and prioritize other areas where
power supply should never be cut off. Wisely employed, these systems can improve Amsterdam s
resilience, defined by Gunderson and Holling as the capacity of cities to undergo disturbance and
maintain its functions and controls (qtd. in Jabareen 2013). Wise use means taking a rational, ethical,
and scale sensitive approach. With a coherent action plan, the city should benefit from these tools.
Any neighborhood to lose power will suffer in the short and long term. To prioritize, we must be able
to step back and see the city as a system comprised of smaller, unequal parts, and understand how
different neighborhoods might be differently vulnerable in case of an outage. Evidently, major
infrastructure like hospitals and transit nodes should be most protected from outages. While such
infrastructures are locally embedded, they provide crucial services to the whole city and outlying
areas.
Beyond infrastructure, the issue is more nuanced. However, on close inspection, the ethical choice is
also the practical one. Power outages should be allowed in the most advantaged areas

Factors Causing Gender Inequity
The gender gap has been a concern for decades, it used to be that females lagged behind males when it
came to academic achievement. Females now outperform males academically and are more likely to
obtain college degrees and enroll in graduate school despite the gender inequalities that remain in
American society. The underachievement of females has diminished if not vanished due to the focus
of the United States for the past 30 years to close the gender achievement gap. Yet, the concern in the
most recent years has been both the lower performance of girls in mathematics and science and now
males underperformance in most academic areas (Del Rio Strasser, 2012). Why is it that despite that
females and males attend the same educational environment, males are having a hard time keeping up
and females continue to be less likely to take advanced math or science classes or enroll in science and
math related careers?
There are several factors that cause gender inequity and have caused the gender achievement gap to
grow. Factors such as society, culture, and students beliefs and attitudes about learning. As members
of a society we value certain rules, customs, and values and we learn to follow our society s rules,
customs and values. This is called socialization and part of this socialization includes gender roles. As
a society we have learned that males and females have different roles and we expect them to act
differently depending on their gender. Children learn at a

Personal Statement In System Biology
Since the encounter to Network Motifs by Uri Alon s book Design Principles of Biological Networks
during my Integrated Masters at University of Hyderabad; systems biology has immensely captivated
me. Further in time; academic courses, workshops and projects guided me to unearth this as the area
that I want to pursue as my research. Although new, this field gives a holistic perspective to the
historically reductionist outlook of the biological systems.
While living organisms are interesting and exciting to think about, yet they have baffled scientists
since the beginning. Now interdisciplinary groups are working together address questions in these
systems. I want to work on complexity of biological systems using dynamical systems theory and
network analysis. These approaches in systems biology give an insights into intricate events such as
cell functions and diseases.
Though we have come a long ahead in 21st century, we still have before us an ordeal of the most
grievous kind: disease. Diseases affect not only the person physically, but also whole family
emotionally and economically. Brief suffering from reactive arthritis stimulated me to join the search

De-Extinction Research Paper
The Ethics of De Extinction
The concept of bringing a species back to life after it has gone extinct has been around for years. The
idea that dinosaurs will roam the earth again has fascinated mankind since the first dinosaur fossils
were first put together. Pop culture has even glorified this idea in a variety of books and movies made
about the topic, such as the famous Jurassic Park trilogy. In science fiction, there are many ideas
people have about brining the extinct back to life. Some of these theories have a grain of truth to it,
but today, the idea of bringing back a species is no longer science fiction, but will likely be possible in
the near future. This process is called De Extinction. The most recent developments in genetic
extraction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists in 2009 attempted to clone an extinct species of wild goat, the Pyrenean Ibex, otherwise
known as the bucardo. After many attempts, one surrogate goat mother became pregnant and gave
birth. Unfortunately, the babe died in just moments after birth. However this cloning took place only
seven years after the cloning of dolly the sheep in 2002, the first successfully cloned mammal. Making
the jump from cloning being impossible to nearly reviving a dead species just seven years later shows
proof how quickly this incredible technology is advances. It has now been over a decade since the
cloning of the bucardo, and the technology available now would very likely produce a healthy clone.
The only question now is, should we? Some in favor of de extinction argue for the possible medical
benefits that could be learned by furthering research in this field. Most pharmaceutical drugs are not
made from scratch, but instead derived from natural compounds found in wild plants, or animals.
Innumerable species have gone extinct before science even had to opportunity to attempt to research
them. Bringing species back gives us the unique opportunity to study these species of plants and
animals to learn from

A Case Study Of 27 Working Class Students Across The Uk...
This is a case study of 27 working class students across the UK higher education institutions looking
at the different sociological understanding of student identification to determine their social and
academic aspects ( Reay, D., Crozier, G. and Clayton, J. 2010). In 2010 the year which this paper was
written statistics from the U.K Universities and College Admissions Services (UCAS) showed that the
24.72% of those accepted were from the four lowest socio economic groups in 2005 and in the
previous year it was 25.62% (Shepherd, 2007).
The aim of the whole paper was to find out if students from a working class background felt as if they
were fitting in or if they felt as if they were standing out when it came to attending higher education
studies (Reay, D., Crozier, G. and Clayton, J. (2010). They study was carried across four institutions
of higher learning comprising of Southern elite university, Civic in the Midlands, s post 1922 in the
North and a college of further education in the East of England. The selection for these universities
was to get a cross section of experiences by working class students (Reay, D., Crozier, G. and Clayton,
J. (2010),

Similarities Between Ran And King Lear
Despite contrasting contexts, a well developed understanding of the shared ideas between two texts
has been achieved through comparative study. The play King Lear (1606) but William Shakespeare
and the Japanese film adaptation Ran (1985) by Akira Kurosawa share similar values despite coming
from different parts of the world, and being written in different time periods. The concept of Chaos
highlights the need to respect the values of society, and Justice is used throughout both texts to explore
morality and the consequences that one s actions possess.
The theme of Chaos has been used within the play to reflect the societal values of Elizabethan
England. King Lear was written just after Queen Elizabeth I s death in 1603, when King James I was
crowned. King James quickly became an unpopular ruler, as he would not listen to other s opinions,
and made very harsh decisions, similar to King Lear himself. How in one house, should many people
under two commands hold amity? Tis hard, almost impossible. (Act 2 Scene 4) Regan is asking Lear
how his knights and her servants can get along when they have two authority figures, using the chaos
that Lear s knights have caused as an excuse to dismiss them and claim the last of Lear s power. This
power struggle ties in with the Elizabethan concept of the Chain of Being. The chain itself is a
hierarchy linking all of God s creations, starting at the top of the chain with God, then the angels, then
the Monarch, who is viewed as God s

Bigelow s Use Of Mise-En-Scene In The Hurt Locker
In Kathryn Bigelow s film, The Hurt Locker, the director utilizes Mise En Scene to create a constant
presence of danger and unease throughout the film. With the goal to show the horrific reality of war,
Bigelow used specific elements such as characters outfits, lighting, types of camera techniques, setting
and overall pacing are the directors strongest weapons in creating the pressing tension felt in her film.
James, the films main character is the lens which Bigelow uses to show the audience the pain that war
causes for both sides of the fight. Bigelow shows how war can change someone so much, altering
them to the point to where they no longer feel welcome upon their return. From the beginning of this
film the army units are portrayed as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James is thrown in between the warzone and a presumably American supermarket, where shock and
sterility is felt, contrasting the two worlds that James is a part of. James is surrounded by poverty and
suffering while in Iraq, a result of the war that he is fighting in. When it cuts to the supermarket,
James is clean in civilian clothing and surrounding by a cornucopia of food. The lighting is also used
to show the difference between the two places. Iraq is a place covered in a layer of dirt and sand while
the supermarket is a stark bright white, showing off the cleanliness of the land. Right before it cuts to
the supermarket scene James is riding in the car in the dark, making the viewer focus on what is
shown and making it feel controlled. Then when it shifts to the supermarket, we are greeted with a
sense of lost when presented with the seemingly endless rows of food. The elements of brightness,
color, dress and pace create conflict with each other. The audience can tell that while Iraq is a chaotic
mess, James is happy in it because it is his identity. Back in America he has no purpose, no drive. Like
many veterans, the surrealistic nature that is felt upon leaving war is impressed onto the audience and
we to begin to understand the feeling of alienation in one s own home. We are given a glimpse into
what the horrors of conflict due to a solider and what they

The Differences Between Prairie Style Architecture And...
In this paper I will be discussing and contrasting the differences between Prairie Style architecture and
Hi tech architecture. We will go over the origin, the years it was used, the main components and
characteristics, some of the architects that used these design types, a few real= world examples, and
we will compare them. Prairie School was a late 19th and early 20th century architectural style, most
common to the Midwestern United States. The style is usually marked by horizontal lines, flat or
hipped roofs with broad overhanging eaves, windows grouped in horizontal bands, integration with
the landscape, solid construction, craftsmanship, and discipline in the use of ornament. Horizontal
lines were thought to evoke and relate to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The designation Prairie is due to the dominant horizontality of the majority of Prairie style buildings
which echoes the wide, flat, treeless expanses of the mid Western United States. The most famous
proponent of the style, Frank Lloyd Wright, promoted an idea of organic architecture , the primary
tenet of which was that a structure should look as if it naturally grew from the site. Wright also felt
that a horizontal orientation was a distinctly American design motif, in that the younger country had
much more open, undeveloped land than found in most older, urbanized European nations.
Hi tech architecture, also known as Structural Expressionism, is a type of Late Modern architectural
style that emerged in the 1970s, incorporating elements of hi tech industry and technology into
building design. Hi tech architecture appeared as revamped modernism, an extension of those previous
ideas helped by even more technological advances. This category serves as a bridge between
modernism and post modernism; however, there remain gray areas as to where one category ends and
the other begins. In the 1980s, hi tech architecture became more difficult to distinguish from post
modern architecture. Some of its themes and ideas were later absorbed into the style of Neo Futurism
art and architectural movement.
Like Brutalism, Structural Expressionist buildings reveal their structure on the outside as well as the
inside, but with visual emphasis placed on the

SMEs in Singapore
1. Introduction Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) form the majority of the enterprises in Singapore
s economy. They employ over 70% of Singapore s workforce and generate about 50% of the country s
total GDP. Most SMEs in Singapore grow from small enterprises into large competitive companies.
Manufacturing and wholesale SME sectors have increased impressively with the number of
employees in these sectors increasing by up to 8%. SMEs in the Finance, Property and holdings sector
hold the top three sectors in terms of the amount of profits accrued. Competitive strategies in
Singapore s SMEs are based on the 3MK key success factors; Management, Markets, Money and
Knowhow (Bull Winter, 1991). In this paper, the contribution of SMEs to Singapore, the economic
constraints that face them, and the steps that can be taken to strengthen SMEs to ensure its sustained
contribution to Singapore s economy will be discussed.
2. Contribution of SMEs in Singapore SMEs in Singapore generate a large share of new jobs. The
government handed out $98 million to be used in upgrading projects for small and medium sized
enterprises with the sole aim of increasing a torrent of new jobs. According to the Minister of State for
Trade and Industry, Teo Ser Luck, these projects would create 15,000 new jobs and produce over $4.4
billion to the economy in terms of value added. SMEs employ more labor intensive production

Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb Essay Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb Love in L.A., written by Dagoberto Gilb, is a story full of irony and multiple themes. The story is set in Hollywood during the summer time. Written in third person objective, Love in L.A. guides the reader along through the story as opposed to an omniscient point of view. The story begins with Jake driving on the freeway. He is so enraptured by his daydream of better possibilities that he ends up smacking the car ahead of him. Jake considers driving away but instead he stops and finds out that the owner of the Toyota he hit was a beautiful girl. From there, Jake switches into his smooth talker role with Mariana. He needed an FM radioIt would have crushed velvet interior with electric controlexotic colognes all of these contribute to the theme of selfishness and greed. He does not need an FM radio but rather wants one. Everything he wants contributes to his rapaciousness. The most prevalent theme in this story is loneliness. Jake is obviously lonely, so much so that he stoops to such pathetic lines as, I m kinda hoping so, just so it takes a little more time and we can talk some. Or else you can give me your phone number now and I won t have to lay my regular b.s. on you to get it later. His loneliness also shows when Gilb describes how, her hand felt so warm and soft he felt like he d been kissed. Jake seems to crave the human intimacy of love, and yet all he does is flirt with a woman whom he does not even care for enough to be truthful to. This is also situational irony. Corresponding with this theme of loneliness is the concept that everyone is looking for love. This need is very evident in Jake and is also displayed in Mariana. No intelligent female would even relent a little in the face of such an apparent swindler as Jake. However, Mariana must be a little flattered and lonely because she smiles at his attentions and even makes small talk with him. Among these themes, lies another one; there are infinite possibilities. Any one person can meet their match at any time. For Jake, Mariana could have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Outsourcing assists businesses to concentrate on core competencies, increase performance, diminish capital investment expenses, and realize increased revenues (Ghodeswar Vaidyanathan, 2008). DNA was protected within the nuclear membrane of B. rapa, which was surrounded by a cell membrane and cell wall. Mechanical and chemical lysis of the cell was necessary to break open the cells and solubilize the membranes to isolate the DNA. Mechanical lysis, which consisted of grinding the leaves with a pestle, broke down the cell wall. Chemical lysis, through the use of lysis solution, broke down the lipid base membranes. The lysate was placed inside the Zymo spin IV spin filter to remove chunks of debris from the solubilized cell components. A binding buffer was added to the collection tube that held DNA, ... • 7. What Does The Parables Say About The Kingdom Of God Journal 8 Psalm 103:19 reads, The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. As highlighted in this verse, the Kingdom of God spans across both earth and heaven and rules over them with equal authority. Much of what we know about the Kingdom of God comes from the parables Jesus told during his earthly ministry. On the surface, it may be hard to determine just what Jesus is saying about the Kingdom of God. By considering the deeper meanings of parables, however, it is possible to see exactly what the parables reveal about the Kingdom of God and what hermeneutical implications that has for our lives. To discover what the parables say about the Kingdom of God, they must first be interpreted. Jesus himself can be found saying that parables contain mysteries on the inside. Sometimes, however, finding the deeper meaning for a parable can be tricky. To make the task of interpreting parables easier, it helps to find out Jesus audience. Jesus did not intend for us to be unable to understand his parables. Rather, he fully intended for them to shed light on the Kingdom of God, sometimes we just need to dig a little deeper with an open heart and open eyes. After interpreting the parables that deal with the Kingdom of God, it is possible to determine some characteristics of the Kingdom of God. With Jesus arrival, he brought with him the Kingdom, hence the reason he is explaining it to people via parables. While Jesus already brought the Kingdom of God, it is also not here yet. God s kingdom reconciliation has begun on this earth but will not be completed until Jesus comes again to finish it completely. Jesus first coming was the beginning of the end for the Kingdom of God. Beyond that, Jesus reveals many other things about the Kingdom of God. For example, from the mustard seed parable, the Kingdom of God is like the nature of a mustard seed in that it started small but is growing very large. In addition, Jesus explains the four different responses people have to the Kingdom of God in the parable of the sower by explaining the outcome of seed planted on four different types of soil. The last glacial period has encountered numerous large magnitude, rapid climate change events; characterising the period between 10ka and 50ka (Steig, 1999). During this period was the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), which occurred approximately 21ka, a glacial period defined by changes in greenhouse gases, sea level and ice sheets (Otto Bliesner et al., 2006). In comparison the mid Holocene occurred approximately 6000 years ago, during the current interglacial. The Holocene period is regarded as relatively muted in terms of signals of climate change, with changes primarily associated with changes in seasonal solar radiance (Otto Bliesner et al., 2006; Steig, 1999). Models have been constructed in order to replicate the past climates, with specific reference to The Community Climate System Model: Version 3 (CCSM3), aimed to define continental scale dynamics, variability and climate change (Collins et al., 2006). With the use of models the environmental variation between the LGM and mid Holocene periods can be construed. Roche et al (2007) refers to the LGM as the classic benchmark for models, enhanced by the use of proxy data associated with ocean surfaces, vegetation, oceanic circulation and atmospheric conditions. Clark et al (2009) presented the extent of the LGM, with growth of ice sheets to their maximum extent occurring between 33ka and 26.5ka; primarily in response to climate forcing from decreases in northern summer insolation, tropical Pacific sea surface ... Yet Medea, a foreign woman, is standing before him in an attempt to persuade him to alter his decision about her exile. Furthermore, Medea manipulates their conversation, so that Kreon will verify her ultimate wish. As the importance of the discussion increases, the dialogue becomes a series of single lines spoken back and forth between Medea and Kreon. With the level of intensity rising, Medea first seems to plead with Kreon to allow her to remain in Corinth permanently. Kreon refuses the proposal because he knows her to be a powerful woman capable of great evils; however, she then states that her true desire is to stay in Corinth for this one day (337). This seems like a minor request to Kreon, so he surrenders his will and grants Medea the right to remain in Corinth for one more day. Evidence of this is shown in Fractured Land when Lisa is observing a high way. She writes of various trucks involved in the fracking industry creating traffic and putting wear and tear on the roads of U.S. Highway two (55). Many of these mines are in more rural areas where roads were not made with the intention of there being as much pressure on the roads as the activity with the mines creates. This means the increased activity on the roads results in them breaking down. The same goes for these trucks as it does for the movement of vehicles shipping in materials from different nations for the fracturing to take place. More congested roads also means greater odds for accidents. This is evident when Westburg, the Fractured Land author writes of an accident that occurred along U.S. Highway 2. Multiple trucks collided until one of them crashed into a tanker trailer with crude oil. This vehicle exploded and burned for many hours, resulting in the closing down of the entire highway (Westburg 141). Because the majority of these mines are built in areas where the roads are not made to suit traffic, the roads are too narrow. This ultimately leads to a rise in tragic accidents. Also, along with more goods being mined comes more products to be shipped over seas. This would inevitably lead to more pollution. For instance, In 2013, transportation contributed more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons emitted into our air (Union). One of the most natural food eaten by Americans is meat. As a matter of fact, most of the meat eaten today originates from cattle. To make maters worst, it has issues when it comes to production. In most feed yards, cattle s are fed grain to grow fatter and bigger before being slaughtered, the conditions are terrible and horrifying. Thing brought up a lot of questions within me. I wondered why cattle s deviated from eating grass to corn and why they did? Do the cattle s suffer from infection after eating the corn? Should human be bothered about the way the cattle s are grown? Is it necessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The law of demand says that the higher the price, the lower the quantity demanded, and the lower the price, the higher the quantity demanded. According to the food market sector, grass fed beef is higher than cattle raised by grain. Therefore, because of the high competition placed on corn fed beef, the price of grass fed beef remains low. The famers also cause the low price of grass fed beef, in the sense that they try to compete with the famers of corn fed beef. However many of the famers seem to ignore the price of raising the cattle. The cost of these beef affects the environment. Firstly, this beef causes pollution as a result of CAFOS. The waste product produced from CAFOS are mostly realized into the river, stream, and lake. The waste product contains ammonia, this gas has an unpleasant odor, which can be detectable even at low concentrations. When it contains a high concentration, it becomes harmful to vegetation. When this gas is flushed into a water body, it is more serious, because it is very toxic to aquatic organisms. However, with this it gradually degrade the environment and all its natural value. This is caused by the food the cattle is raised with grain (WBGH Education Foundation). Amount spent on antibiotics for these cattle is another most avoidable matter. Health wise, the cost of making the cattle grow quickly from different methods of feeding, destroys the immune system of the animal. Because of the bacteria that is caused by these method. In other words, whatever disease an animal has, will transfer to his/her prey. That means it also can affect the human system. Not just affecting but also destroying it leading the person to death. E. coli (Escherichia coli 0157: H7), is an example of the disease that can be transferred from the cattle to his/ her prey. When boosting the cattle immune system, microbes becomes resistant, more antibiotics are used to reduce this. All this and many more add to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The King s Character in a Cinematic Production of... Although labeled as a history, the strength of Shakespeare s Henry V lies not in the events that occur in the play, but in the delicate portrayal of the characters involved. Shakespeare s audience would have already known the story of Henry V s campaign on France and thus would have had no reason to watch a play that simply re enacted past events. Therefore, the appeal of such a play, as well as the themes and the content, would have been dependent largely on the characters themselves. It is obvious that the most prominent character is the man whose name the play carries Henry V. The entire story centers on his deeds. He serves as the catalyst for the action, the driving force behind all that takes place. Without him there is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subtleties of such ambiguities make any direction a complex task as one tries to reconcile conflicting viewpoints. In doing so, there are two widely respected cinematic versions of Henry V that may be considered: Laurence Olivier s 1944 production and Kenneth Branagh s 1989 version. Olivier s version is pure patriotism, while Branagh s is grittier and much darker. Olivier s is more stylized and innocent, giving it a more chivalric and fairy tale atmosphere. Branagh s, on the other hand, is more realistic in its portrayal of Henry s invasion of France. However, as Shaw points out, in each case the king emerges as the hero through cinematic and textual editing decisions. The most glaring omission common to both is Henry s order to kill the French prisoners taken at the Battle of Agincourt. This scene is omitted because it is one of those textual ambiguities that may leave an audience of the original play uncertain as to the quality of man that the Henry is. This would have been in opposition to both Branagh and Olivier s heroic depictions. This would not, however, be the route chosen for this production. Henry V, as Norman Rabkin describes it in Shakespeare and the Problem of Meaning, is a work whose ultimate power is precisely the fact that it points in two opposite directions, virtually daring us to choose ... Introduction Individual commitment to a group effort that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work. Vince Lombardi Rules are meant to be broken! This phrase is embraced by innovative technology to stimulate creativity and out of the box type thinking. This mentality can also serve as an Achilles heel for any team that fails to establish ground rules prior to commencement of a project. Virtual teams without behavioral norms are divisive and less productive than their peers. This paper will discuss ten behavioral norms that are essential components to the performance of virtual teams, along with, an action plan. Norms In high performing teams, the cost of speaking out is lowered, the cost of silence is raised. Nick Pope According to Watkins (2013), the first five task norms drive production efforts of virtual teams: 1. Establish the team members early on and get them together. Communication is the key to establishing trust, personal and professional relationships and a strong basis for team effectiveness. Use collaboration tools such as video conferencing and team blogs to increase socialization among members. The court also ruled that in order for a case to qualify under intrusion upon seclusion, the act must have been deliberate and significant (again, the defendant knew what she was doing, and did it 174 times). Many people are not on board with this being recognized as the limits set by the court aren t clearly definitive (Gardiner, 2012). One quote that truly shows how this tort being recognized is good news is this: The term legalization is used to describe the process by which norms are moved from the social to the legal level. Not all social norms become law, in fact, only certain norms, but not others are chosen to be incorporated into the criminal code. Austin T. Question 1 In recent years, Amsterdam s energy system has been revolutionized by decentralization and process flow controls. According to Ger Baron, rather than a single energy provider, Amsterdam now has over 600. The city can now limit power outages to certain neighborhoods, and prioritize other areas where power supply should never be cut off. Wisely employed, these systems can improve Amsterdam s resilience, defined by Gunderson and Holling as the capacity of cities to undergo disturbance and maintain its functions and controls (qtd. in Jabareen 2013). Wise use means taking a rational, ethical, and scale sensitive approach. With a coherent action plan, the city should benefit from these tools. Any neighborhood to lose power will suffer in the short and long term. To prioritize, we must be able to step back and see the city as a system comprised of smaller, unequal parts, and understand how different neighborhoods might be differently vulnerable in case of an outage. Evidently, major infrastructure like hospitals and transit nodes should be most protected from outages. While such infrastructures are locally embedded, they provide crucial services to the whole city and outlying areas. Beyond infrastructure, the issue is more nuanced. However, on close inspection, the ethical choice is also the practical one. Power outages should be allowed in the most advantaged areas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Females now outperform males academically and are more likely to obtain college degrees and enroll in graduate school despite the gender inequalities that remain in American society. The underachievement of females has diminished if not vanished due to the focus of the United States for the past 30 years to close the gender achievement gap. Yet, the concern in the most recent years has been both the lower performance of girls in mathematics and science and now males underperformance in most academic areas (Del Rio Strasser, 2012). Why is it that despite that females and males attend the same educational environment, males are having a hard time keeping up and females continue to be less likely to take advanced math or science classes or enroll in science and math related careers? The play King Lear (1606) but William Shakespeare and the Japanese film adaptation Ran (1985) by Akira Kurosawa share similar values despite coming from different parts of the world, and being written in different time periods. The concept of Chaos highlights the need to respect the values of society, and Justice is used throughout both texts to explore morality and the consequences that one s actions possess. The theme of Chaos has been used within the play to reflect the societal values of Elizabethan England. King Lear was written just after Queen Elizabeth I s death in 1603, when King James I was crowned. King James quickly became an unpopular ruler, as he would not listen to other s opinions, and made very harsh decisions, similar to King Lear himself. How in one house, should many people under two commands hold amity? Tis hard, almost impossible. (Act 2 Scene 4) Regan is asking Lear how his knights and her servants can get along when they have two authority figures, using the chaos that Lear s knights have caused as an excuse to dismiss them and claim the last of Lear s power.
