Various Trade Measures Affecting Exporters and Importers
The various trade measures affected exporters and importers. The most common type of trade
restriction or intervention measure is the tariff. There are 3 types of tariffs ad valorem, specific and
compound tariffs. However, there is the other most important form of trade restriction or intervention
non tariffs such as quotas, embargoes and sanctions, voluntary export restraints, buy local legislation,
export subsidies, anti dumping and countervailing duties safety measures and administrative and
technical regulations. CONTENT Tariff is a scheduled of duties which state imposes on goods
imported or exported. Duty in this case refers to the quantity of money payable to the resident customs
experts when a delivery of goods enters or leaves a country. The duty applicable in the case of tariffs
(and thus the actual revenue accruing) can be worked out of three ways.  An ad volorem (meaning in
amount to the value ) rate of duty is a fixed percentage of the customs value of a traded item. 
Specific rate of duty is a fixed monetary amount per unit of the traded item.  Compound rate of duty
involves both an ad valorem and a specific rate of duty being applied to the same product.
Government impose tariffs for the following reasons:  Protection of local industry: import tariffs
have the outcome of raising the value of imported products comparative to similar goods produced in
the local market. This places foreign producers at a competitive disadvantage when selling in the

The Leadership Styles of General Robert E. Lee and General...
The leadership styles of General Robert E. Lee and General Grant during the Civil War. Ulysses S.
Grant was not as well known at the start of the Civil War as Robert E. Lee but proved to be just as
valuable during the war. As a soldier, Grant believed, When in doubt, fight. And he did fight. He won
fame for demanding unconditional (complete) surrender from the Southern commanders he was
fighting. In fact, people in the North began saying Grant s initials, U.S., stood for Unconditional
Surrender. In battle, Grant was tough and hard. He was not a retreating man. Soon Grant was made a
general. He became a leading figure of the war in the West. In 1863 he captured the city of Vicksburg,
Mississippi. He starved the city into surrender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a rule, West Point trained generals held citizen soldiers and officers in low regard. Not Lee; he
understood those whom he led, he appreciated their sacrifices for what they believed in, and adapted
his leadership to suit them. The Army of Northern Virginia was a collection of citizen soldiers from
the various Confederate states, not a professional army of career soldiers. Southerners of the
nineteenth century, and indeed most Americans at the time, held intensely local sympathies; loyalties
to community and state were usually more important than conceptions of American patriotism. Grant
perceived one strategic imperative: A focus on the enemy s armies through maneuver and offensive
action. Lincoln agreed with Grant in this respect, but he also operated under a second strategic
imperative. Faced with this opposition, Grant used dialogue and negotiation to get his essential point
across where his predecessors had failed. Grant did this by employing integrative, or collaborative,
bargaining, an approach that uses shared interests and cooperation to arrive at a satisfactory outcome.
Grant and Lincoln agreed on the end result they desired, and they really did agree on the overall
approach just not on the specific question of a line of operation. Grant was able to convince Lincoln of
the soundness of his overall plan, and as a result, he got much of it implemented. Grant was at his best
as a strategic leader because he

Speech On Trust In Government
accountable to the community and there s still people who show up just ready to tear it down for the
sake of tearing it down. I would love to be able to turn around walking down those stairs and know
that people are more trusting and willing to understand and get to know their not only their elected
officials, but the process and feel like they love government. That s what I love about Mary Parker that
night after dinner in Denver she said if you want good government you need to elect people who
believe in good government. That stuck with me so much because my opponent currently here and
Manitou Springs does not believe in good government. Instead, it is here is what s wrong with it and
here s what needs to be different. I love it and I think the process works and I just think it s a matter of
people taking some time to learn and maybe the elected officials doing more to connect and teach and
educate their constituents on that we are working our butts off and we re trying our best and we can do
pretty much anything we want to, but it would be helpful for people come to the table ready and
optimistic versus pessimistic and ready to tear us down.
Dustin: Well that s awesome. Trust in government is a big idea something that really would make a
difference. Things like empowering local governments, having a little less talk and a lot more action,
and rebuilding trust in government. That s quite the legacy. If that is you leaving the capitol, that s
what is now present. What

Essay about Physics of the Electric Guitar and Amp
A guitar is an instrument made out of wood or other wood like materials. Many things could affect the
instrument s qualities, such as the types of lacquer used or what kind of strings are used. The guitar
amp is an instrument in itself just as a guitar, not all amps are created equally. An amplifier allows the
guitarist to express his playing to the world. Some amplifiers are made using really simple vacuum
tube circuits, and others are made from really complex solid state circuitry. Not any two similar
guitars will sound alike, just as how any two similar people are not exactly identical. Amps are very
similar in context; no two similar amps will sound exactly alike.
The electric guitar is a very simple instrument. It is just a nice ... Show more content on

Nearly 47kg of tension is a lot for a little wooden neck. It is important to have an adjustable truss rod
in a guitar neck. Guitar players like the late Stevie Ray Vaughan used really heavy string gauges (.013
.056 ) which created so much tension, he had to tune his guitar down a half step (in order of 1st to 6th
string: E flat, B flat, G flat, D Flat, A Flat, and E Flat) just to bend the strings much easier.
An electric guitar cannot be heard very well without an amp. Most amps will have equalization knobs
such as bass, midrange, and treble, this amp only has volume and tone. Vacuum tubes are becoming
very obsolete and not very practical since the modern transistor could be used to amplify a signal. The
disadvantage to a transistor based amplifier is that they sharply clip when the signal is pushed too far
and creates distortion, which could wear out a speaker rather quickly. Vacuum tube amps are used
worldwide on countless stages.
These two vacuum tubes are readily available to buy. They are very expensive compared to a
transistor to the same specification. The tube on the left is called a preamp tube, it helps amplify the
weak signal coming from the guitar; these tubes cost in the range of $10 to $25. This tube only pushes
the signal up to two watts. This is where another amplifier stage is needed. The tube on the right is
called a power amp tube and

Hindi Nationalism
Hindi Nationalism
This piece on Hindu nationalism, written by Alok Rai, deals with the coming of modern Hindi in the
late 90s and the early 20s. Alok Rai who is also known as a critical thinker, theorist and also the
grandson of Premchand makes his readers aware of the process of modernization in the case of
language. In this essay we get to witness a connection between Hindi (old Hindi) and Hindi (new
Hindi). Making of Hindi as a modern language connects to the programme of the imagining the nation
largely in a broad manner.
Today when we speak of Hindi, we talk about larger conflicts and controversies based on language.
For instance the language conflict between Tamil and Hindi. There is a problem with this assumption,
because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The novelty of the new age demands that the soft and delicate language such as Braj Bhasha should be
left out, we cannot remain with the feminine language because the new age demands new language
and the new language came in the form of modern Hindi . The Awadh elites who were the bearers of
Hindi were practically forced to invent the style, a culture, a new form of consciousness. The whole
national consciousness was at stake as it was a matter of adopting a whole new consciousness.
Through this piece, we get to discover that in the language matters, when there is a loss, there will also
be a gain. For instance, the Khari Boli Hindi poetry was realized as a powerful invention which was
slowly taken over by Urdu. But after this entire complex thing, we get to experience some gain, which
came in the form of modern Hindi that brought a new social order and awareness.
Hindi came from Hindi, a narrative intimate stabilization and dispossession. We cannot judge that how
we possess a language because it is a very intimate possession. Language is moreover, a private thing,
people generally do not speak pure Hindi in today s time. Today Hindi has become a middle language,
which is the result of the exchange of culture and language by the people while living in the society.
In order to show ourselves different, we need to

Their Eyes Were Watching God Nature Analysis
Nature plays a tremendous role in the book Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.
Throughout the book there are many references to nature and ideas that are influenced by nature and
there is a constant presence of nature in the story. From the beginning to the end of the book nature is
used as a symbol to describe and expand on other things happening in the book. Janie, the main
character of the book, starts this theme of nature at the beginning with her scene at the pear tree. This
scene opens up the idea of nature to the rest of the story. The hurricane scene towards the end of the
book closes the book with the idea of nature, just as it was opened with nature. Ending the book with
nature shows that it was an important aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

can hear what they heard during the storm and feel what they felt. As it says, Through the screaming
wind they heard things crashing and things hurtling and dashing with unbelievable velocity . This
wind and hurricane can also be a metaphor for Janie s previous marriages. The burst of thunder and
lightening can describe Janie s first marriage to Logan Killicks. It was just thrown at her and came out
of nowhere, kind of like a burst of thunder and lightening. Nobody expects it, it just shows up and you
have to be prepared and know what to do. Janie was definitely not ready to be married, but her Nanny
threw her into this situation and expected her to know what to do. The screaming wind...crashing can
portray Janie s marriage to Jody Starks. The marriage might have started with a screaming wind ,
meaning they both had energy and excitement towards the marriage, but then when Jody started
treating Janie like she was a nobody and did not deserve anything, there was a crash and their
marriage went downhill. Jody took Janie for granted and treated her however he felt and she did not
appreciate that. Once he died, Janie was able to move onto to her final and best marriage with Tea

The Importance of Homework Essay
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden to
teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework s effectiveness, but
teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in
school.
Some people don t know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class activity
assigned to students as an extension or elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There are three
types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are assignments
that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these assignments is

Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies
examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC).
Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in
school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools
that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally
found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource).
Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just a
waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K 3 grades there should be no more than 20
minutes a day, for 4 6 grades there should be 20 40 minutes of homework, and from 7 12 grades time
varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these
recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students are
working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework compared to
Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers don t think so,
U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader does more than an hour of

Customer Service And Cargo Operations
Bill Lentsch, Delta s S.V.P. Airport Customer Service and Cargo Operations, said. We appreciate the
hard work of our employees and think the SkySpa will add real value to the airport work environment
(as cited in Thomas, 2015, para 8). Providing such an atmosphere and a place of retreat for their
employees shows that Delta cares about the health and well being of their staff. According to Delta s
S.V.P Allison Ausband stated the following: making sure our employees are well taken care of and
have the tools to look and perform their best is something we re proud to do for our people. We know
working at the airport or on board can take a toll, and offering the SkySpa at some of our busiest hubs

para. 3). With Delta making strides such as this, they are communicating with their employees that
there are ways to relax even when at work and that can help to cut down on the stress that a person is
facing. Delta is also communicating to their organization that their health and well being is important.
As an organization there are some things that can be done to help prevent stress according to Nelson

Ethical Issues:
While Walgreens is exposed to all the general ethical conundrums of the business world, the highly
regulated Pharmacies and Drug Stores industry does not give much room for them to act unethically.
Recent Events:
Placed within an industry being pressured by reimbursement rates, plagued by market saturation, and
in constant fear of government legislation, Walgreens is trying to pursue new avenues to promote
company growth. In order to promote market share growth in New York, Walgreens acquired the
drugstore chain Duane Reade in 2010 (WAG to Acquire NY Institution Duane Reade, 2010).
Walgreens also recently expanded their online presence in May of 2011 with the acquisition of
drugstore.com (Walgreens Co.). While Walgreens also focuses on traditional organic store growth,
these actions exemplify their large focus on promoting company growth through new avenues.
Along with the positive growth related developments, Walgreens is being faced with large industry
pressures. Walgreens is currently in a public dispute with the PBM company Express Scripts. In a June
21, 2011 press release, Walgreens stated that contract renewal negotiations with pharmacy benefit
manager Express Scripts, Inc. (NASDAQ:ESRX) have been unsuccessful, and as a result

Seven Literacy Capabilities
I believe that literacy is one of the most important of the seven capabilities. Every single person in the
entire world uses literacy every single day, you could say it is more of a way of life than a capability.
In today s day and age, most things have become digitalized, and children are becoming more
confident in their writing abilities as well as their communication skills online. Literacy takes reading,
writing, and communication skills, and jumbles those all up together, giving people who extend their
literacy capability the option to apply more techniques, and interactions onto these skills. In the words

HIPAA Compliance Essay
HIPAA Compliance
If you are in the healthcare industry, you have probably heard some rumblings about the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, coolly referred to as HIPAA. The word is your
medical practice will have to be HIPAA compliant by April 2003, but you re not exactly sure what this
act mandates or how to accomplish it. In very basic terms, HIPAA has two primary components to
which hospitals, health plans, healthcare clearinghouses, and healthcare providers must conform: 1)
Administrative simplification, which calls for use of the same computer language industry wide; 2)
Privacy protection, which requires healthcare providers to take reasonable measures to protect patients
written, oral, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HIPAA doesn?t necessarily prescribe the solutions, but it does require physicians to look at all of the
ways that they use and access data today and determine whether that?s reasonable or not. to help you
begin your HIPAA compliance process, following are some practical ideas for rethinking how you
maintain and use patient information in your office. Appoint one or two staff members (depending on
the size of your office) to review the HIPAA act, determine the changes your practice needs to make,
and decide if you?ll need outside help. To keep this project manageable, do not wait until the last
minute. Remember: most of the healthcare industry will have to be HIPAA compliant by April 14,
2003. Furthermore, compliance is not optional. Those found in violation of the act will be penalized:
Civil penalties range up to $25,000 per violation of each standard. Criminal penalties range up to
$250,000 in fines and/or up to 10 years in prison. 3
An important part of HIPAA is the minimum use standard, which mandates that healthcare providers
use and disclose patient information in ways that are minimally necessary to accomplish the task. For
example, a billing clerk does not need access to a patient?s entire medical history to bill for a service
rendered, says Hole Curry. Therefore, you may want to divide patient files into sections, having an
office policy that clearly states who may access each section. Consider converting to pocket style
classification folders,

Basic Principle in verbal and non verbal Communication
One of the most important skills of a leader in a company is that he or she knows how to communicate

The characteristics of an effective message is that it provides the practical information the receiver

Margaret Steffler s A Complicated Kindness
Margaret Steffler s article, Fragments and Absences, states, Language in A Complicated Kindness,
constructed, responded to, and commented on by Nomi as first person narrator, demonstrates a
linguistic fragmentation comparable to the material fragments surrounding the deserted daughter and
sister (5). To understand this comment further, we have to analyze A Complicated Kindness. In
Miriam Toews novel, we focus on the protagonists Naomi Nomi Nickel; she is a curious and defiant
sixteen year old who is developing in a kind of stunted world, or as she states a non progressive
community (11). Nomi is trying to find herself, and this brings her into conflict with the community,

Her narration is filled with constant deviations, jumping around, and incomplete endings; her inability
to maintain focus, it seems, is stated at the very beginning of the novel, Nomi has a problem with
endings (1). So, instead of an ending, she simply states a memory, or begins another story; we can see
this in the spaces between some paragraphs, the lines that indicate a beginning of a new fragment, or
simply a new chapter. Another example of her inability to conclude is the novels ending, it seems like
she is writing to her teacher her final assignment. In the assignment she ends it by saying she will do
things like leave and start a new life, but in actuality she hasn t done anything she is still sitting in the
empty house, so the reader is left wondering, did Nomi really get out of the Mennonite community?

Difficulties Of Defining Terrorism Has Changed Our Lives
Difficulties of Defining Terrorism

Dr. Alanna Smith
July 12, 2015
Abstract
Terrorism has been around for hundreds of years and through the years the definition of terrorism has
changed. While the United States knew of terrorism it wasn t a main stream issue for Americans, these
types of activities happened in other countries, not ours. Unfortunately that is not true, which we
found that terrorism can and did reach our shores and change our lives, this unfortunate realization
took place on September 11, 2001. Of course this was not the first terrorist activity that occurred on
American soil, it is just the one that slapped American s in the face telling us that American was not
untouchable , we are just as vulnerable as other countries. Defining terrorism has been an issue for
many years, the different branches of the federal government cannot even agree on a definition of
what terrorism is let alone different countries. To back up the above I have listed some of the different
definitions from different branches of the federal government and from other countries (White, J.
2014).
The Intelligence Community is guided by the definition of terrorism contained in Title 22 of the US
Code, Section 2656f(d): (www.cia.gov) o The term terrorism means premeditated, politically
motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine
agents. o The term international terrorism means terrorism involving the

Analysis Of Quentin Tarantino s The World Of...
In his interview, Quentin Tarantino describes Inglourious Basterds as a product of his imagination
(Gilby 175). If one had watched the film, he can see that the film is based on the real World War II
setting as it portrays actual key figures Hitler, Goebbels, and Churchill and events around that time,
such as German occupation in Paris and the Holocaust. Even though the film uses actual World War II
setting, the story as a whole is a pure fiction. The film is a fictional alternate history of two different,
but intertwined plots to assassinate Hitler. In reality, Hitler was not assassinated by the Jews, nor by
Americans because he committed suicide. But, in the world of Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino twists
the actual history by creating a fictional story of Hitler s assassination, which is effectively achieved
by Shoshanna, a French Jewish cinema proprietor, and two Jewish American soldiers from the
Basterds, a team of Jewish American soldiers led by Lt. Aldo Raine. What Tarantino wants to imply
through this film is that in the world of film, anything can be made possible, even altering history, at
the filmmaker s discretion. Tarantino has let his imagination run wild and satisfied the what if
questions that not only he but also others might have: What if Jews retaliated back and fight the
Nazis? What if Americans have killed Hitler and dismantled Third Reich? Through Inglourious
Basterds, Quentin Tarantino recognizes cinema as a medium that has the power to deviate

Alexander Graham Bell
He was born to Alexander Melville Bell and Eliza Grace Symonds. His mother was almost deaf, and
his father taught elocution to the deaf, which I find very ironic. This ended up influencing Alexander s
later career choice as teacher of the deaf. At age 11 he entered the Royal High School at Edinburgh,
but he did not enjoy the compulsory curriculum, and he left school at age 15 without graduating.
Alexander invented the first ever telephone. He lived from 1847 to 1922, he was a scottish born
american scientist. He worked at a school for the deaf while trying to invent a machine that would
send sound by electricity. Bell was granted the first official patent for his telephone in March 1876,
though he would later face years of legal challenges to his claim that he was its sole inventor, resulting
in one of history s longest patent battles. When he got his machine to work, he offered to sell his
patent to Western Union for 100 thousand dollars. Western Union turned down his offer because the
telephone did not really hit it off at first. So Alexander decided to make his own telephone company.
The Bell Telephone Company, a common law joint stock company, was organized in Boston,
Massachusetts on July 9, 1877, by Alexander Graham Bell s father in law Gardiner Greene Hubbard,
who also helped organize a sister company the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company.
Once the telephone hit off and everyone

Huck s Use Of Greed In Huckleberry Finn
Paradise is often described as the perfect getaway into the utmost luxurious world; in fact, the bare
necessity of paradise lies upon civilization. For centuries, most people have seen civilization as a
necessity of life. However, in Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck holds a
starkly contested opinion of civilization, which is society is corrupt and to Huck, unnecessary. He
believes in frequent inappropriate and barbaric actions in order to assert his own opinion regarding
society and allow himself to depart from the evils of society and civilization. In The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn Twain exhibits Huck s characteristics of deceit, boorish behavior, and a sense of
freedom to allow Huck to combat the evils of society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One foggy night, Huck demonstrates his talent of deceiving Jim by slyly stating, I hain t seen no fog,
nor no islands, nor no troubles, nor nothing. I been setting here talking with you all night . . . so of
course you ve been dreaming (Twain 88). After Huck and Jim are separated by the river s current in
the evening s fog, Huck claims to know nothing about the separation and asserts that Jim has been
dreaming. Soon enough, Jim ascertains Huck s trick and induces his apology. Huck lies for the thrill,
even if it results in a bitter Jim. Huck feels that conducting himself in a churlish manner draws himself
further and further from civilization. Huck is virtually relying on his genuine self to complete the
arduous task of escaping humanity. Neil Schmitz, an esteemed writer, notes, What lies coiled in the
child is the aboriginal self, an effortless beauty that mocks the repressed, fiercely civilized adult ( The
Paradox of Liberation in Huckleberry Finn ). Schmitz is expressing his opinion that Huck s lying
brings out a raw, barbarian version of himself. In order to prove that he is truly not one with society,
Huck essentially unmasks himself by lying. Furthermore, Huck s deceit brings him even further from
civilization, almost to the point where his behavior mocks society and those who have fallen to

Non Pharmacological Methods Are Effective For Reducing...
Introduction
Painful procedures are common for premature infants and research has found that non
pharmacological methods are effective in reducing pain signs. Pain is subjective and difficult to
measure unless vocalized, as infants are unable to verbalize their pain, their management in regards to
pain relief is suboptimal (who.int). It has been documented in many studies that premature babies of a
gestation of less than 32 weeks are subjected to approximately between 10 and 15 painful procedures
in their first few weeks of life and more than 80% of those procedures are performed without pain
relief (Stevens et al, 2003).
When premature infants are exposed to long term pain they enter into a state of passivity, with
decreased movement, no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early studies of neurological development showed that preterm infant perception of localized pain was
non existent. It was also thought that neonates were incapable of remembering painful experiences and
therefore, they were not considered of understanding pain in the same way as adults (Urso, 2007).
This understanding came from four misconceptions about the neonatal physiology. The first being that
the neonatal CNS was immature, the second was that nerve fibers required myelination process in pain
perception, the third was that infants did not have pain receptors and the fourth was that premature
babies were unable to remember painful experiences (Urso, 2007).
It is known that premature infants with immature development experience pain especially those
needing surgical treatment or those who spend time in neonatal intensive. Knowing how to manage
neonatal care is a challenge for healthcare professionals as it is difficult to measure and due to the fact
that neonatal systems are more immature than those of older patients. It is also known that experience
of pain in early life can have an effect on pain perception later on in life.
Analgesia used can combat pain experienced by neonates. The most commonly pharmacological pain
relief used for neonates are paracetamol, opioids, most commonly morphine and fentanyl and local
analgesia. It is noted that as well as pharmacological

Chemical Surveillance Program For Leukemia
Benzene Exposure Leukemia in Factory Workers Examined
Background
As part of an occupational surveillance program for leukemia from excessive benzene exposure 1,832
factory workers were screened using a new diagnostic test. It was determined of those exposed, 214
tested positive, 29 tested negative and 90 non exposure tested positive. With the use of a contingency
table we will evaluate the measures of validity of the screening test used.
In the study of the association between benzene exposure and leukemia causality has been established
using the Bradford Hill criteria for two specific agents: Ionizing radiation and benzene. Evidence has
been established that high daily exposure to benzene in both a time dose relationship and with dose
and response with specific types of such as AML leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). However, it has been
noted by Pagano et al., that results on the environmental factors contain inconsistent results due to the
design of the study, uncontrolled bias, and the variance in the populations at risk (2006).
Environmental factors such as socioeconomic status, alcohol consumption, and smoking are known
contributors to the development of leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). It s been observed that
occupational exposure to industrial hazards is significantly more frequent overall in populations from
lower socioeconomic backgrounds (Nisse et al., 2001). A complete background of study participants

Lousy Sex Summary
The article The Opposite Sex: with Lisa May Stevens excerpted from the book Lousy Sex, by Gerald
N. Callahan dives deep into the concept of gender that we humans have deemed a taboo subject. This
article sought to question what gender is and why humans feel the need to have it. Callahan explores
other species that ignore our strict rules regarding gender and thrive just the same. This article was
extremely fascinating and helped me to open up my perception as to what gender truly is. It was also
surprising to me that so many other people are confused as to what gender really is. Humans have
tried so hard to make gender black and white, but it is often more flowing and unique to each person.
Gender is an amazingly interesting topic that seeks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

lives in Fort Collins, as a lot of the people here are what most would classify as hegemonic America. I
am so appreciative of people who dare to identify as something different and people like Lisa May,
who wear these differences on the outside. I appreciated this article s description of Lisa May and the
way it showed her humanness and I can now understand that we have more similarities than
differences. One of the quotes in the article that really stuck with me was when Lisa May said, I d
rather people see me as sexy than as a dog dressed up. Not only is this very strong language with a lot
of imagery, but it really makes others think about their actions. To think of any women calling herself
a dog is heartbreaking and is something that should never go through their minds. What is even more
unsettling is that in the case of Lisa May people feel as though they have the right to see her
differences as ugly. It then makes sense that May would feel as though she would have to do extra.

Modern Information Technology Has Developed A Way For People
Modern information technology has developed a way for people to receive support from others.
Online social support is expanding as the general public begins to feel comfortable using online social
groups to seek support from others. Online social groups have extensive benefits for users who are not
able to or do not desire to attend face to face communication support. These groups have emerged
within health care as a result of individuals needs. These individuals need to know more about their
health conditions have driven many health groups to develop. Plenty of these online support groups
are in the form of blogs, such as mom blogs, bodybuilder blogs, health blogs, and healthy eating
blogs. Furthermore, there are also certain online support areas known as social media that allow
people to share personal experiences or share current events in their life. Common examples of this
include: Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. At the present time, in North America alone, it is estimated
that there are currently over 250 million people who use the internet. Individuals may utilize the
internet for an extensive amount of reasons, such as information gathering, entertainment, and
personal use. The idea of online support groups is relatively modern, having been around only for a
decade or so. However, these social groups have become a method to social support and positive
health outcomes. Presently, there is a rich assortment of social support groups on the internet,

Political Correctness In Blazing Saddles
I don t think a movie like Blazing Saddles could be made today. Movies, money, and political
correctness, the new golden rule in American life, which is to never joke about anything that may be
deemed even remotely offensive or upsetting by any segment of the population for any reason. Watch
a movie like Dirty Harry or a Marilyn Monroe film, and they are tame compared to what we see in
today s horror movies like Saw . But with Hollywood comedy, it has gone in a different direction, in
the name of political correctness. I do not think a movie like Blazing Saddles could be made today.
Political correctness makes movie production companies not want to take risks. There is a good reason

Fear Of Death In Poe s Premature Burial
The party in the Masque of the Red Death can be seen as a result of Prince Prospero s fear of
premature death since his group is locked away in a fantastically decorated abbey, hiding from the
disease festering around them in comfort and security (Poe 319). To be sure, the Prince has good
reason to hide, the plague results in agonizing death for all who contract it (Poe 319). More likely is
that Prospero s motives for his actions have nothing to do with fear of death, and the disease outside
the abbey is just a reason for the Prince to have a party. After all, he does not sound like someone in
fear of death, premature or otherwise; his mood is described as happy and dauntless and sagacious
(Poe 319), not at all fearful. Upon meeting the Red ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because his condition resembles death so closely, Poe is faced with the very real possibility that he
will be buried alive. He describes being buried alive as a fairly common occurrence, (Poe 309 310),
strengthening the argument that his actions are a result of true fear of death. How the two characters
end up is important because it allows some insight into how Poe intended to portray the motivations
that lead each character to the situations they found themselves in. Prospero ends up stabbed in front
of all his friends by his own dagger (Poe 322). While Poe overcomes his fear when he awakens
thinking he has been buried alive, resulting in him living a fuller life (Poe 318). Ralph Waldo Emerson
was a Transcendentalist author, so he explored concepts beyond the scope of science. That is to say,
non empirical concepts that cannot be known through observation, the senses, or experience, without

While a man can see that a rose is beautiful, or feel the beauty in the weight and smoothness of a
strand of pearls, he can never know that a thing is beautiful by seeing or touching it. This is why
Emerson describes beauty as an eternal fugitive (75) in Ode to Beauty. Emerson s philosophy can be

Questions On Pascal s Wager
I am arguing that Pascal s Wager is significantly stronger of a rationale when more social factors are
taken into consideration. In his time, Blaise Pascal formed the foundation of the Pascal s Wager we
know of today, posthumously in the form of Infinirien . Though this is more easily defensible then
Pascal Wager, the modified version has garnered enough popularity and has enough similar that it is
the target of most criticisms. Pascal came up with a theory of understanding the consequences of not
believing in God versus those that came with believing in him. From his calculations he determined
that since believing in God had the same result as not believing when God didn t exist. When God did
exist however, the consequences of not believing were dire and the reward for believing was infinite.
Pascal tried to explain that believing in God was the rational decision when such infinite rewards of
heaven and such punishment of hell are possibilities. Social implications are crucial to understanding
how Pascal s Wager might apply today and in countries of all different cultures. I will discuss three of
the most common objections toward Pascal s Wager and illustrate how considering just a few social
factors make the decision to believe in God more rational then not. Then, I will explain how though
there s not enough evidence toward believing unswervingly, there is still enough positive implications
that can warrant accepting your socially acceptable faith. Pascal s Wager has

Women s Views On Women
People in Afghanistan tend to think women should not have a voice. Women s opinions are not
considered to be important which is not right. I believe that women s opinions should be heard.
Women s rights have been exploited by different groups for political gain and sometimes for the so
called well being of the country in the last fifty years. Afghanistan has been stuck in a state of war for
over three decades now. The different types of groups that have been coming into the country to fight
have made a huge impact on the people of Afghanistan. This essay will state the type of struggles the
Afghan women are facing on a daily base and are in fact enduring the pain silently. I believe that
women should be treated more equally in education, society and workplace.
Women are not treated the same as men in Afghanistan. The people in Afghanistan tend to believe that
equality should not be given to women because women are only born to serve men and fulfil their
wishes and commands. The disturbing fact is that not only men think this way but most women have
the same thoughts too. Afghanistan is one of the most challenging places for women to live. Their
lifestyle is enormously different from a female s lifestyle in Great Britain. Beginning from the time
they are born to the end of their lifetime, they are facing troubles on a daily basis. Girls are usually

The Bolsheviks and Marxism
Analyzing the Bolshevik State compared to Marxism can be difficult because Marx, Engels and their
followers gave relatively little thought to what the state would look like after a socialist revolution.
Engels famously wrote, the state is not abolished, it withers away, which highlights the hazy and
unfixed nature of Marx and Engle s writings on the ultimate, classless society they envisioned.
Further, what they did write is subject to the differing interpretations by numerous socialist parties all
claiming to be Marxist. As discussed earlier, Lenin claimed he simply reshaped Marxism to fit the
conditions of Russia. Others argue his interpretation was not true Marxism at all. However, the basic
principles of a socialist state in the eyes of Marx s are outlined in the Communist Manifesto as
follows: 1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with State capital and
an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into
cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common
plan.

The Hound Of The Baskervilles by Conan Doyle
Conan Doyle is best known as the creator of Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr Watson. His stories

Arther Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh in 1859. He spent a year in Austria before taking a degree

deductive methods and Elementary approach to solving mysteries. His work was so popular because at
that time detection was rising.

Holmes knew the type of dog just from its teeth marks, when really it s just because he can see the dog
outside the window. The dog s jaw, as shown in the space between these marks, is too broad in my
opinion to be a terrier and not broad enough for a mastiff. It may have been yes, by jove it is a curly

The language used by the characters is some what different to the language used by people today.

Conan Doyle also spends time in building tension and suspense by concentrating on the language of

Each poem has a dominant figurative language that the reader may pick up as they read the literatures.
According to Clark, authors frequently develop mental pictures through the use of symbolism (Clark).
In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, for example, one can automatically perceive that Angelou
utilized symbolism. Other than the birds representing the human race, both the sky and the fat worms
symbolize the endless opportunities freedom can bring. The bars of rage , clipped wings, and tied feet,
however, are all restraints of what keeps the second bird from discovering what the world has to offer.
Just as we cry out for help or attention when we feel trapped, the caged bird sings so that others can
hear it, far and wide. Moreover, in Still I Rise, she mainly included similes and metaphors in almost
every stanza. I am a black ocean, says Angelou. Throughout the whole poem, this is her most
influential line and it happens to be her thesis statement. An ocean is commonly acknowledged for its
immensity and powerful waves. In this metaphor, she is referring to her own strong and sassy
personality. This sets the tone for the whole poem, which enables the reader to sense the strength of
Angelou s persistent character. Lastly, when reading Phenomenal Woman , she employs hyperbole
when she describes how men react to her presence. Her inner beauty either makes the men stand or
fall down on their knees and it causes them to swarm around her like a hive of honeybees. This
emphasizes how much her inner mystery attracts those around her. Her inner mystery is another
example of a hyperbole, because of the fact that men and women wonder what makes her so alluring.
No one can seem to figure out that her physical attributes have nothing to do with it. Angelou s secret
is simple: Her inner mystery is her inner beauty. No one can comprehend this, even when she s
attempted to explain because it

Currently, the United States is experiencing a turbulent and strained relationship with the Middle East.
Turning on the television and watching the five o clock news only showcases and capitalizes on these
negative events. Stones into Schools by Greg Mortenson, is the follow up novel to Three Cups of Tea.
In this book, Mortenson explores deeper into the impacts of education for women in the Middle East.

In fact, it is easy to take many things for granted. The line between need and want are blurred.
However, when it comes to education, many see it as a right. Maybe that is so, but for many outside
the U.S. it is a right that is denied or inaccessible, especially for women. The Persepolis Declaration
describes literacy as a fundament human right (UNESCO). The definition of literacy in the dictionary
is the ability to read and write (Webster). Education is a powerful thing. In fact, a third grade student
who reads at the appropriate reading level compared to a third grade student who does not is four
times more likely to graduate by age 19, according to DoSomething.org. To put things in perspective,
a third grade student is typically eight or nine years old. This is the age of many students Mortenson is
working to help. Mortenson exhibited through action and purpose that literacy can lead to peace. That
the ability to read and write can end the wars and tyranny. How is this so? The United Nations
Educational. Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), states that o limit this right of literacy,
limits an individual s ability to make clear choices and logical decisions. UNESCO believes that
education creates opportunity and allows an individual to act with the use of critical thinking and
empowerment. However, the more interesting fact UNESCO brings forward, which ties back to
Mortenson s mission, is that aware and educated individuals are more effective in participating and
engaging in democratic intuitions. This is the key. Human development, and the development of
democracy, rely on education. Interpreting the text from Stones into Schools, it is clear Mortenson has
similar theories and is acting on them. It is no secret the turmoil and conflict the U.S. is facing with
the Middle East. However, Mortenson s drastic and peacefully approach show another alternative

out on business (Scharwath, 2015). Suppliers try then to offset their losses by cutting back on
maintaining a safe work environment which can lead to tragedies, such as the Rana Plaza collapse in
2013 where 1137

African American And European Descent
Dabney is an African American and European descent whose parents went to a segregated school in
Virginia. His great grandmother of three generations before him were free blacks before the Civil War,
but during the war lived in fear that they would be kidnapped and forced to submit to slavery, thus
living in constant fear. His grandfather of three generations before him was a white slave owner. This
side of the family is where Dabney has a connection with past family members that were Confederate
soldiers and members of the Virginia 1861 Secession Convention. His belief is that the Confederate
flag represents the men who died at such battles like Manassas, Shiloh, and Gettysburg. He believes
that the flag has been a representation of white supremacists groups in America but to deny the
historical value of the Confederate flag would just be as wrong as the white supremacists. Dabney s
belief is that people cannot ignore prejudice or the symbol of prejudice by the flag, but that removing
the flag from public display will not stop the white supremacists, or the prejudice that they adhere to.
He believes that removing the flags would not stop the country from jailing more minorities than
whites, and that this country needs to serve its people by resolving these problems with real
congressional help and by cultural change and education and not by arguing over a piece of fabric.
Historian Lars Prillaman belief is that the Confederate Battle flag should not be displayed at any

Philippines s Macroeconomic Perspective Of The...
Philippines repeatedly experienced boom and bust in its economy since 1980. Having faced huge debt
crisis in 1983 and the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, it can be said that the nation is back on its feet
from being the sick man of Asia to a tiger cub, and becoming realigned with the ASEAN 6
(Worldbank). The GDP growth has been growing at 4.5 percent under Macapagal Arroyo and even
better under Aquino s at 6 percent. Account balances also recorded surpluses repeatedly since 2003
(CIA Factbook).
There are many factors that played to this growth, clean governance, better tax collection, the growing
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and the remittances by over 4 million overseas Filipino workers
(OFW). Despite this growth, poverty is still among the challenge of the country. With a population of
over 99 million (est. 2014), 25.2 percent is still living under poverty line (CIA Factbook). By
discussing the topics mentioned above this report will further deliver the macroeconomic perspective
of the Philippines.
Aquino s Administration Benigno Aquino III, the son of former president Cory Aquino, became the
15th President of the Philippines in 2010. Under his term which will end in 2016, he achieved high
numbers in terms of GDP growth. In 2011, GDP was recorded at 3.2 percent which soared to 6.8
percent in 2012 and to a high of 7.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013 but contracted slightly at 5.3
percent in the first quarter of 2014. The credit rating agencies also enlisted

Fences as Metaphor in Fences by August Wilson Essay
As with most works of literature, the title Fences is more than just a title. It could be initially noted
that there is only one physical fence being built by the characters onstage, but what are more
important are the ideas that are being kept inside and outside of the fences that are being built by Troy
and some of the other characters in Fences. The fence building becomes quite figurative, as Troy tries
to fence in his own desires and infidelities. Through this act of trying to contain his desires and
hypocrisies one might say, Troy finds himself fenced in, caught between his pragmatic and illusory
ideals. On the one side of the fence, Troy creates illusions and embellishments on the truth, talking
about how he wrestled with death, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where Cory has aspirations of playing football, Troy says that he must continue with his more
practical job at the A amp;P.
As Bono says, Some people build fences to keep people out...and other people build fences to keep
people in. This is why Rose wants the fence to be built. When faced with Troy s infidelity she gets
only a cursory, self serving response from Troy. It s hard to decipher why exactly she stays with Troy,
but a very simple, valid reason would be that she has no other place to go, and feels a strong
responsibility to try and care for her children. Eventually her compassion leads her to make an
unspoken ultimatum to Troy: I can either take in this bastard child, or I can take in you. Troy misses
this ultimatum and sees the well being of the child, Raynell, as the only option.
There are quite a few clichés throughout fences. The aspiring musician who is always poor, the
washed up sports player, the crazy old man who is really actually a wise character, the loving wife,
etc. It s interesting to see Wilson place such (to me) an emphasis on the crazy fool character, and end
up leaving him out for such a long period of time throughout the script. Of particular interest is the
way it seems Wilson completely mutes the trumpet, so much that it doesn t even play anymore, and
cannot open the heavens, leaving Gabriel himself to dance and whoop and holler in order to
accomplish the desired

Diversity In The Film Industry
Hollywood has always struggled with diversity, that s no surprise. The lack of representation between
women, minorities, and the LGBT community is still an issue that needs to be resolved. Just last year
after the 2016 Oscars the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag went viral due to the all white nominees. It was
clear that the nominations favored more in predominately white actors rather than those of color.
However, the difference this year round is remarkable. The Academy learned their lesson after last
year s criticism and came through with a change featuring Moonlight, Hidden Figures, and Fences
which earned Best Picture nominations along with Mahershala Ali winning Best Actor for Moonlight
and Viola Davis winning Best Supporting actress for Hidden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As reported by the Williams Institute at UCLA, about 3.5% of the U.S. identified as Lesbian, Gay, or
Bisexual and only 2% were speaking characters in television shows and movies. In today s society the
more representation we have for the LGBT community the better it is for viewers to feel open and
comfortable with themselves. The report also mentions that 78.9% of the LGBT characters were
white, whereas, 21.1% were from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. Even when there is a
small amount of representation given, there continues to be some lack of racial or ethnic

Violence In Kenya Conflict Analysis
Conflict Analysis of the 2007 Post election Violence in Kenya
Examines why widespread violence erupted in the wake of the 2007 Presidential Election; look at the

Politicised Ethnicity, Competitive Politics and Conflict in Kenya: A Historical Perspective
ethnicity has emerged as the single most important factor in political competition
Political parties have been organised along ethnic identities and state power aggressively contested on
the basis of mobilized ethnicity
Ethnicity has thus become the medium through which class politics is mediated
Ethnic identity + Politicised ethnicity  Political power and dominance (Looking glass self, the
powerless ethnicity seen as the other , thus are neglected and their needs overlooked. (??? Might be
wrongly interpreted!)
Historically, Young points out that ethnic affiliation can indeed provide a sense of solidarity in the face
of a relentlessly globalising marketplace (Young

  • 2. Various Trade Measures Affecting Exporters and Importers The various trade measures affected exporters and importers. The most common type of trade restriction or intervention measure is the tariff. There are 3 types of tariffs ad valorem, specific and compound tariffs. However, there is the other most important form of trade restriction or intervention non tariffs such as quotas, embargoes and sanctions, voluntary export restraints, buy local legislation, export subsidies, anti dumping and countervailing duties safety measures and administrative and technical regulations. CONTENT Tariff is a scheduled of duties which state imposes on goods imported or exported. Duty in this case refers to the quantity of money payable to the resident customs experts when a delivery of goods enters or leaves a country. The duty applicable in the case of tariffs (and thus the actual revenue accruing) can be worked out of three ways.  An ad volorem (meaning in amount to the value ) rate of duty is a fixed percentage of the customs value of a traded item.  Specific rate of duty is a fixed monetary amount per unit of the traded item.  Compound rate of duty involves both an ad valorem and a specific rate of duty being applied to the same product. Government impose tariffs for the following reasons:  Protection of local industry: import tariffs have the outcome of raising the value of imported products comparative to similar goods produced in the local market. This places foreign producers at a competitive disadvantage when selling in the resident ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Grant was not as well known at the start of the Civil War as Robert E. Lee but proved to be just as valuable during the war. As a soldier, Grant believed, When in doubt, fight. And he did fight. He won fame for demanding unconditional (complete) surrender from the Southern commanders he was fighting. In fact, people in the North began saying Grant s initials, U.S., stood for Unconditional Surrender. In battle, Grant was tough and hard. He was not a retreating man. Soon Grant was made a general. He became a leading figure of the war in the West. In 1863 he captured the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. He starved the city into surrender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a rule, West Point trained generals held citizen soldiers and officers in low regard. Not Lee; he understood those whom he led, he appreciated their sacrifices for what they believed in, and adapted his leadership to suit them. The Army of Northern Virginia was a collection of citizen soldiers from the various Confederate states, not a professional army of career soldiers. Southerners of the nineteenth century, and indeed most Americans at the time, held intensely local sympathies; loyalties to community and state were usually more important than conceptions of American patriotism. Grant perceived one strategic imperative: A focus on the enemy s armies through maneuver and offensive action. Lincoln agreed with Grant in this respect, but he also operated under a second strategic imperative. Faced with this opposition, Grant used dialogue and negotiation to get his essential point across where his predecessors had failed. Grant did this by employing integrative, or collaborative, bargaining, an approach that uses shared interests and cooperation to arrive at a satisfactory outcome. Grant and Lincoln agreed on the end result they desired, and they really did agree on the overall approach just not on the specific question of a line of operation. Grant was able to convince Lincoln of the soundness of his overall plan, and as a result, he got much of it implemented. Grant was at his best as a strategic leader because he ... I would love to be able to turn around walking down those stairs and know that people are more trusting and willing to understand and get to know their not only their elected officials, but the process and feel like they love government. That s what I love about Mary Parker that night after dinner in Denver she said if you want good government you need to elect people who believe in good government. That stuck with me so much because my opponent currently here and Manitou Springs does not believe in good government. Instead, it is here is what s wrong with it and here s what needs to be different. I love it and I think the process works and I just think it s a matter of people taking some time to learn and maybe the elected officials doing more to connect and teach and educate their constituents on that we are working our butts off and we re trying our best and we can do pretty much anything we want to, but it would be helpful for people come to the table ready and optimistic versus pessimistic and ready to tear us down. Dustin: Well that s awesome. Trust in government is a big idea something that really would make a difference. Things like empowering local governments, having a little less talk and a lot more action, and rebuilding trust in government. That s quite the legacy. Many things could affect the instrument s qualities, such as the types of lacquer used or what kind of strings are used. The guitar amp is an instrument in itself just as a guitar, not all amps are created equally. An amplifier allows the guitarist to express his playing to the world. Some amplifiers are made using really simple vacuum tube circuits, and others are made from really complex solid state circuitry. Not any two similar guitars will sound alike, just as how any two similar people are not exactly identical. Amps are very similar in context; no two similar amps will sound exactly alike. It is important to have an adjustable truss rod in a guitar neck. Guitar players like the late Stevie Ray Vaughan used really heavy string gauges (.013 .056 ) which created so much tension, he had to tune his guitar down a half step (in order of 1st to 6th string: E flat, B flat, G flat, D Flat, A Flat, and E Flat) just to bend the strings much easier. An electric guitar cannot be heard very well without an amp. Most amps will have equalization knobs such as bass, midrange, and treble, this amp only has volume and tone. Vacuum tubes are becoming very obsolete and not very practical since the modern transistor could be used to amplify a signal. The disadvantage to a transistor based amplifier is that they sharply clip when the signal is pushed too far and creates distortion, which could wear out a speaker rather quickly. Vacuum tube amps are used worldwide on countless stages. These two vacuum tubes are readily available to buy. They are very expensive compared to a transistor to the same specification. The tube on the left is called a preamp tube, it helps amplify the weak signal coming from the guitar; these tubes cost in the range of $10 to $25. This tube only pushes the signal up to two watts. This is where another amplifier stage is needed. The tube on the right is called a power amp tube and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alok Rai who is also known as a critical thinker, theorist and also the grandson of Premchand makes his readers aware of the process of modernization in the case of language. In this essay we get to witness a connection between Hindi (old Hindi) and Hindi (new Hindi). Making of Hindi as a modern language connects to the programme of the imagining the nation largely in a broad manner. Today when we speak of Hindi, we talk about larger conflicts and controversies based on language. For instance the language conflict between Tamil and Hindi. The novelty of the new age demands that the soft and delicate language such as Braj Bhasha should be left out, we cannot remain with the feminine language because the new age demands new language and the new language came in the form of modern Hindi . The Awadh elites who were the bearers of Hindi were practically forced to invent the style, a culture, a new form of consciousness. The whole national consciousness was at stake as it was a matter of adopting a whole new consciousness. Through this piece, we get to discover that in the language matters, when there is a loss, there will also be a gain. For instance, the Khari Boli Hindi poetry was realized as a powerful invention which was slowly taken over by Urdu. But after this entire complex thing, we get to experience some gain, which came in the form of modern Hindi that brought a new social order and awareness. Hindi came from Hindi, a narrative intimate stabilization and dispossession. We cannot judge that how we possess a language because it is a very intimate possession. Criminal penalties range up to $250,000 in fines and/or up to 10 years in prison. 3 An important part of HIPAA is the minimum use standard, which mandates that healthcare providers use and disclose patient information in ways that are minimally necessary to accomplish the task. Difficulties Of Defining Terrorism Has Changed Our Lives Difficulties of Defining Terrorism Christine King CRJ440 Dr. Alanna Smith July 12, 2015 Abstract Terrorism has been around for hundreds of years and through the years the definition of terrorism has changed. While the United States knew of terrorism it wasn t a main stream issue for Americans, these types of activities happened in other countries, not ours. Unfortunately that is not true, which we found that terrorism can and did reach our shores and change our lives, this unfortunate realization took place on September 11, 2001. Of course this was not the first terrorist activity that occurred on American soil, it is just the one that slapped American s in the face telling us that American was not untouchable , we are just as vulnerable as other countries. Defining terrorism has been an issue for many years, the different branches of the federal government cannot even agree on a definition of what terrorism is let alone different countries. To back up the above I have listed some of the different definitions from different branches of the federal government and from other countries (White, J. 2014). • 18. Analysis Of Quentin Tarantino s The World Of... In his interview, Quentin Tarantino describes Inglourious Basterds as a product of his imagination (Gilby 175). If one had watched the film, he can see that the film is based on the real World War II setting as it portrays actual key figures Hitler, Goebbels, and Churchill and events around that time, such as German occupation in Paris and the Holocaust. Even though the film uses actual World War II setting, the story as a whole is a pure fiction. The film is a fictional alternate history of two different, but intertwined plots to assassinate Hitler. In reality, Hitler was not assassinated by the Jews, nor by Americans because he committed suicide. But, in the world of Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino twists the actual history by creating a fictional story of Hitler s assassination, which is effectively achieved by Shoshanna, a French Jewish cinema proprietor, and two Jewish American soldiers from the Basterds, a team of Jewish American soldiers led by Lt. Aldo Raine. What Tarantino wants to imply through this film is that in the world of film, anything can be made possible, even altering history, at the filmmaker s discretion. Tarantino has let his imagination run wild and satisfied the what if questions that not only he but also others might have: What if Jews retaliated back and fight the Nazis? What if Americans have killed Hitler and dismantled Third Reich? Through Inglourious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino recognizes cinema as a medium that has the power to deviate ... His mother was almost deaf, and his father taught elocution to the deaf, which I find very ironic. This ended up influencing Alexander s later career choice as teacher of the deaf. At age 11 he entered the Royal High School at Edinburgh, but he did not enjoy the compulsory curriculum, and he left school at age 15 without graduating. Alexander invented the first ever telephone. He lived from 1847 to 1922, he was a scottish born american scientist. He worked at a school for the deaf while trying to invent a machine that would send sound by electricity. Bell was granted the first official patent for his telephone in March 1876, though he would later face years of legal challenges to his claim that he was its sole inventor, resulting in one of history s longest patent battles. When he got his machine to work, he offered to sell his patent to Western Union for 100 thousand dollars. Western Union turned down his offer because the telephone did not really hit it off at first. So Alexander decided to make his own telephone company. For centuries, most people have seen civilization as a necessity of life. He believes in frequent inappropriate and barbaric actions in order to assert his own opinion regarding society and allow himself to depart from the evils of society and civilization. After Huck and Jim are separated by the river s current in the evening s fog, Huck claims to know nothing about the separation and asserts that Jim has been dreaming. Soon enough, Jim ascertains Huck s trick and induces his apology. Huck lies for the thrill, even if it results in a bitter Jim. Huck feels that conducting himself in a churlish manner draws himself further and further from civilization. Huck is virtually relying on his genuine self to complete the arduous task of escaping humanity. Neil Schmitz, an esteemed writer, notes, What lies coiled in the child is the aboriginal self, an effortless beauty that mocks the repressed, fiercely civilized adult ( The Paradox of Liberation in Huckleberry Finn ). Schmitz is expressing his opinion that Huck s lying brings out a raw, barbarian version of himself. In order to prove that he is truly not one with society, Huck essentially unmasks himself by lying. Introduction Painful procedures are common for premature infants and research has found that non pharmacological methods are effective in reducing pain signs. Pain is subjective and difficult to measure unless vocalized, as infants are unable to verbalize their pain, their management in regards to pain relief is suboptimal (who.int). It has been documented in many studies that premature babies of a gestation of less than 32 weeks are subjected to approximately between 10 and 15 painful procedures in their first few weeks of life and more than 80% of those procedures are performed without pain relief (Stevens et al, 2003). Early studies of neurological development showed that preterm infant perception of localized pain was non existent. It was also thought that neonates were incapable of remembering painful experiences and therefore, they were not considered of understanding pain in the same way as adults (Urso, 2007). This understanding came from four misconceptions about the neonatal physiology. The first being that the neonatal CNS was immature, the second was that nerve fibers required myelination process in pain perception, the third was that infants did not have pain receptors and the fourth was that premature babies were unable to remember painful experiences (Urso, 2007). It is known that premature infants with immature development experience pain especially those needing surgical treatment or those who spend time in neonatal intensive. Knowing how to manage neonatal care is a challenge for healthcare professionals as it is difficult to measure and due to the fact that neonatal systems are more immature than those of older patients. It is also known that experience of pain in early life can have an effect on pain perception later on in life. Analgesia used can combat pain experienced by neonates. The most commonly pharmacological pain relief used for neonates are paracetamol, opioids, most commonly morphine and fentanyl and local analgesia. It is noted that as well as pharmacological ... Callahan explores other species that ignore our strict rules regarding gender and thrive just the same. This article was extremely fascinating and helped me to open up my perception as to what gender truly is. Fear Of Death In Poe s Premature Burial The party in the Masque of the Red Death can be seen as a result of Prince Prospero s fear of premature death since his group is locked away in a fantastically decorated abbey, hiding from the disease festering around them in comfort and security (Poe 319). To be sure, the Prince has good reason to hide, the plague results in agonizing death for all who contract it (Poe 319). More likely is that Prospero s motives for his actions have nothing to do with fear of death, and the disease outside the abbey is just a reason for the Prince to have a party. After all, he does not sound like someone in fear of death, premature or otherwise; his mood is described as happy and dauntless and sagacious (Poe 319), not at all fearful. Upon meeting the Red ... How the two characters end up is important because it allows some insight into how Poe intended to portray the motivations that lead each character to the situations they found themselves in. In his time, Blaise Pascal formed the foundation of the Pascal s Wager we know of today, posthumously in the form of Infinirien . Though this is more easily defensible then Pascal Wager, the modified version has garnered enough popularity and has enough similar that it is the target of most criticisms. Pascal came up with a theory of understanding the consequences of not believing in God versus those that came with believing in him. From his calculations he determined that since believing in God had the same result as not believing when God didn t exist. When God did exist however, the consequences of not believing were dire and the reward for believing was infinite. Pascal tried to explain that believing in God was the rational decision when such infinite rewards of heaven and such punishment of hell are possibilities. Social implications are crucial to understanding how Pascal s Wager might apply today and in countries of all different cultures. I will discuss three of the most common objections toward Pascal s Wager and illustrate how considering just a few social factors make the decision to believe in God more rational then not. Then, I will explain how though there s not enough evidence toward believing unswervingly, there is still enough positive implications that can warrant accepting your socially acceptable faith. Engels famously wrote, the state is not abolished, it withers away, which highlights the hazy and unfixed nature of Marx and Engle s writings on the ultimate, classless society they envisioned. Further, what they did write is subject to the differing interpretations by numerous socialist parties all claiming to be Marxist. As discussed earlier, Lenin claimed he simply reshaped Marxism to fit the conditions of Russia. Others argue his interpretation was not true Marxism at all. However, the basic principles of a socialist state in the eyes of Marx s are outlined in the Communist Manifesto as follows: 1. In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, for example, one can automatically perceive that Angelou utilized symbolism. Other than the birds representing the human race, both the sky and the fat worms symbolize the endless opportunities freedom can bring. The bars of rage , clipped wings, and tied feet, however, are all restraints of what keeps the second bird from discovering what the world has to offer. Just as we cry out for help or attention when we feel trapped, the caged bird sings so that others can hear it, far and wide. Moreover, in Still I Rise, she mainly included similes and metaphors in almost every stanza. I am a black ocean, says Angelou. Throughout the whole poem, this is her most influential line and it happens to be her thesis statement. An ocean is commonly acknowledged for its immensity and powerful waves. In this metaphor, she is referring to her own strong and sassy personality. This sets the tone for the whole poem, which enables the reader to sense the strength of Angelou s persistent character. Suppliers try then to offset their losses by cutting back on maintaining a safe work environment which can lead to tragedies, such as the Rana Plaza collapse in 2013 where 1137 ... • 40. African American And European Descent Dabney is an African American and European descent whose parents went to a segregated school in Virginia. His great grandmother of three generations before him were free blacks before the Civil War, but during the war lived in fear that they would be kidnapped and forced to submit to slavery, thus living in constant fear. His grandfather of three generations before him was a white slave owner. This side of the family is where Dabney has a connection with past family members that were Confederate soldiers and members of the Virginia 1861 Secession Convention. His belief is that the Confederate flag represents the men who died at such battles like Manassas, Shiloh, and Gettysburg. He believes that the flag has been a representation of white supremacists groups in America but to deny the historical value of the Confederate flag would just be as wrong as the white supremacists. Dabney s belief is that people cannot ignore prejudice or the symbol of prejudice by the flag, but that removing the flag from public display will not stop the white supremacists, or the prejudice that they adhere to. He believes that removing the flags would not stop the country from jailing more minorities than whites, and that this country needs to serve its people by resolving these problems with real congressional help and by cultural change and education and not by arguing over a piece of fabric. Historian Lars Prillaman belief is that the Confederate Battle flag should not be displayed at any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Philippines s Macroeconomic Perspective Of The... Philippines repeatedly experienced boom and bust in its economy since 1980. Having faced huge debt crisis in 1983 and the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, it can be said that the nation is back on its feet from being the sick man of Asia to a tiger cub, and becoming realigned with the ASEAN 6 (Worldbank). The GDP growth has been growing at 4.5 percent under Macapagal Arroyo and even better under Aquino s at 6 percent. Account balances also recorded surpluses repeatedly since 2003 (CIA Factbook). There are many factors that played to this growth, clean governance, better tax collection, the growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and the remittances by over 4 million overseas Filipino workers (OFW). Despite this growth, poverty is still among the challenge of the country. With a population of over 99 million (est. 2014), 25.2 percent is still living under poverty line (CIA Factbook). By discussing the topics mentioned above this report will further deliver the macroeconomic perspective of the Philippines. Aquino s Administration Benigno Aquino III, the son of former president Cory Aquino, became the 15th President of the Philippines in 2010. Under his term which will end in 2016, he achieved high numbers in terms of GDP growth. In 2011, GDP was recorded at 3.2 percent which soared to 6.8 percent in 2012 and to a high of 7.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013 but contracted slightly at 5.3 percent in the first quarter of 2014. The credit rating agencies also enlisted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Fences as Metaphor in Fences by August Wilson Essay As with most works of literature, the title Fences is more than just a title. It could be initially noted that there is only one physical fence being built by the characters onstage, but what are more important are the ideas that are being kept inside and outside of the fences that are being built by Troy and some of the other characters in Fences. The fence building becomes quite figurative, as Troy tries to fence in his own desires and infidelities. Through this act of trying to contain his desires and hypocrisies one might say, Troy finds himself fenced in, caught between his pragmatic and illusory ideals. On the one side of the fence, Troy creates illusions and embellishments on the truth, talking about how he wrestled with death, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where Cory has aspirations of playing football, Troy says that he must continue with his more practical job at the A amp;P. As Bono says, Some people build fences to keep people out...and other people build fences to keep people in. This is why Rose wants the fence to be built. When faced with Troy s infidelity she gets only a cursory, self serving response from Troy. It s hard to decipher why exactly she stays with Troy, but a very simple, valid reason would be that she has no other place to go, and feels a strong responsibility to try and care for her children. Eventually her compassion leads her to make an unspoken ultimatum to Troy: I can either take in this bastard child, or I can take in you. Troy misses this ultimatum and sees the well being of the child, Raynell, as the only option. There are quite a few clichés throughout fences. The aspiring musician who is always poor, the washed up sports player, the crazy old man who is really actually a wise character, the loving wife, etc. It s interesting to see Wilson place such (to me) an emphasis on the crazy fool character, and end up leaving him out for such a long period of time throughout the script. Of particular interest is the way it seems Wilson completely mutes the trumpet, so much that it doesn t even play anymore, and cannot open the heavens, leaving Gabriel himself to dance and whoop and holler in order to accomplish the desired ... • 43. Diversity In The Film Industry Hollywood has always struggled with diversity, that s no surprise. The lack of representation between women, minorities, and the LGBT community is still an issue that needs to be resolved. Just last year after the 2016 Oscars the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag went viral due to the all white nominees. It was clear that the nominations favored more in predominately white actors rather than those of color. However, the difference this year round is remarkable. The Academy learned their lesson after last year s criticism and came through with a change featuring Moonlight, Hidden Figures, and Fences which earned Best Picture nominations along with Mahershala Ali winning Best Actor for Moonlight and Viola Davis winning Best Supporting actress for Hidden ... The report also mentions that 78.9% of the LGBT characters were white, whereas, 21.1% were from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.
