Music has played various roles in worship and religious ceremonies throughout history according to the Bible. It was used to call assemblies, sound alarms for battle, herald new kings, and celebrate festivals. Thanksgiving, praise, and worship are commonly used terms, but have distinct meanings. Thanksgiving is giving thanks from the heart out of a sense of being indebted. Praise strengthens us to face challenges and prepares the way for God. Worship should be reserved for God alone through acts like surrendering our bodies as living sacrifices. Music should be used cautiously as a catalyst for spiritual experiences rather than driving them.
