3. In Serving God
Deuteronomy 6:12-14 (New International Version)
12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD,
who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land
of slavery.
13 Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and
take your oaths (promises) in his name. 14 Do
not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples
around you;
4. A Command
Deuteronomy 10:11-13 (New International Version)
11 “Go,” the LORD said to me, “and lead the people on
their way, so that they may enter and possess the land I
swore to their ancestors to give them.”
Fear the LORD
12 And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of
you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in
obedience to him, to love him, to serve the LORD your
God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to
observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am
giving you today for your own good?
5. Serve the Lord our God
Deuteronomy 10:19-21 (New International Version)
19 And you are to love those who are foreigners,
for you yourselves were foreigners in
Egypt. 20 Fear the LORD your God and serve
Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in
His name. 21 He is the one you praise; He is
your God, who performed for you those great
and awesome wonders you saw with your
own eyes.
6. The Promise
Deuteronomy 11:13-14 (New International Version)
13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am
giving you today—to love the LORD your God
and to serve Him with all your heart and with
all your soul— 14 then I will send rain on your
land in its season, both autumn and spring
rains, so that you may gather in your grain,
new wine and olive oil. (Abundance)
7. If We Do Not Serve God
Deuteronomy 28:46-48 (New International Version)
46 They will be a sign and a wonder to you and
your descendants forever. 47 Because you did
not serve the LORD your God joyfully and
gladly in the time of prosperity, 48 therefore in
hunger and thirst, in nakedness and dire
poverty, you will serve the enemies the LORD
sends against you. He will put an iron yoke on
your neck until he has destroyed you.
8. Do Not Serve Other gods
Joshua 23:6-8 (New International Version)
6 “Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is
written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without
turning aside to the right or to the left. 7 Do not
associate with these nations that remain among
you; do not invoke the names of their gods or
swear by them. You must not serve them or bow
down to them. 8 But you are to hold fast to the
LORD your God, as you have until now.
9. Serve God In Faithfulness
Joshua 24:13-15 (New International Version)
13 So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities
you did not build; and you live in them and eat from
vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’
14 “Now fear the LORD and serve Him with all
faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors
worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt,
and serve the LORD. 15 But if serving the LORD seems
undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this
day whom you will serve, whether the gods your
ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of
the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for
me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
10. In Serving Others
1 Peter 4:9-11 (New International Version)
9 Offer hospitality to one another
without grumbling. 10Each of you
should use whatever gift you have
received to serve others, as faithful
stewards of God’s grace in its various
forms.
11. Serve To Glorify God
11 If anyone speaks, they should do so
as one who speaks the very words of
God. If anyone serves, they should
do so with the strength God
provides, so that in all things God
may be praised through Jesus Christ.
To him be the glory and the power
for ever and ever. Amen.
12. Jesus Christ’s Example
Mark 10
45 For even the Son of Man did not
come to be served, but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom
for many.”
13. Serve God, Serve Others
You serve God
when you serve
others for His glory
