Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Peekat the Week:
o In reading we completed our Unit 4 Reading Test. We
practiced the skills prior to taking the assessment.
Most of the students know a large amount of our
Kindergarten High Frequency words! Continue to
practice as they forget some of the older ones.
o We reviewed main idea, comparing and contrasting,
positions words (on, off, inside, outside, over, under,
up and down.)
o We practiced listening for the /r/, /p/, /l/, and /u/
sounds in words.
o Our class talked about the many places we find water,
their characteristics and how it flows. We also
discussed volcanoes!
o In math, we discussed the patterns on the number
grid to 100, counting by fives, attributes and
introduced the penny.
o Students practiced printed their first and last names,
letters and numbers. Watch for formation, spacing
(on the lines) and size.
Coming Up:
o Next week in Reading, we begin Unit Five.
We will be introduced to the sound of /k/
at the beginning and /ck/ at the end of
words.
o We will be introducing nouns as “naming
words” for people, places, things and
animals.
o Our new High Frequency words for next
week will be “for, his” and the students
will start identifying the
beginning/middle/end of a story.
o In math, we will continue practicing coin
counting and addition stories.
o Student writing is starting to focus on
punctuation marks at the end of
sentences and trying to write words you
don’t know, using sounds you hear.

End of the Third Marking Period
The end of the marking period is
approaching, March 22nd
! I am constantly
assessing students on their skills. Some
still need to practice telephone number,
birthday, days of the week and seasons.
Remember to review all of the high
frequency words as they forget some of
the older ones!
Students should be working on reading
simple three letter words, taking the
sounds apart and putting them together,
and writing these words.
