Tesla Case
1. The PESTEL framework:
Political factors:
· The federal tax credit was summed up to 7,500$ for what is called qualified plug–in electric drive
vehicles.
· The U.S. government imposed taxes and at the same time boosted in investment by supporting it
through the $1.3 billion invested in the hydrogen powered research.
· The government also imposes regulations which might form/deform the shape of the industry thus
affecting it negatively positively. Economic factors:
· The vehicles that are being sold are expensive so selling such products would have a good impact
on the economy.
· The economic crisis of 2008
· The gasoline price increase in U.S.
Sociocultural factors: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rarity: Tesla Motors is known to have a differentiated product over other firms in the sense that it
sells electric based cars. It is the only successfully running electric sports cars in the U.S. At the
beginning sales were not enough to sustain the business but tesla motors proved it self after
introducing the new model, Tesla Roadster 2. There is only few car manufacturing companies trying
to enter this industry which makes Tesla Motors have a competitive advantage.
Imitability: This new invention needs a huge amount of capital to invest in. Tesla motors took a huge
risk by investing in a new and differentiated product because this business might fail at one point or
another.
Organization: Tesla motors has got very good resources and technology however, it was bleeding
money. As well as it lacks the good culture and trustworthiness of an organization for example when
Martin Eberhard, one of the founders of Tesla Motors had led the investors to believe that the cost of
the roadster was $65,000 whereas it turned out to be $92,000 sticker price.
Through VRIO analysis, Tesla Motors is found to be a valuable and rare company. Of course it is
very hard to imitate considering the amount of capital that should be invested, as well as the huge
risks taken.
However, we found out that Tesla motors has few emerging competitors into this

Organizational Impact
Organizations are consistently seeking to generate or withstand its competitive advantage.
Innovation tremendously influences the success of any organization. Businesses steadily must
pursue an innovative method of manufacturing goods or providing services. Organizations must
accomplish this with the expectation of high productivity and low operating expenses in an effort to
remain profitable and competitive within its chosen industry. To meet these objectives, the
organization must offer quality products and services while also integrating innovation, design, and
creativity. Tangela will evaluate the impact innovation, design, ... Show more content on

and Lotus Engineering operate separately, jointly they have managed to set a standard for Group
Lotus PLC that far exceeds its competitors. For example, other than Porsche, Lotus is the only car
manufacturer that entertains an automotive engineering consultancy (Stamm, 2008, p. 172). In
addition, this company does not mass produce its vehicles, instead, they manufacturer only a few
vehicles to ensure quality is not compromised and to maintain the exclusivity of owning such a
vehicle.
According to Schroeder, Scudder, and Elm (1989), "A generally accepted definition of innovation in
a manufacturing context will provide a basis for development of appropriate measures of innovation
(not performance), as well as leading to methods for improving innovation (and hence
performance)" (p. 1). Lotus strives to enhance the performance of its vehicles using pioneering
technology. The organization encourages its employees to integrate individual and team working
skills using knowledge, information, and creativity in his or her quest to develop new products
(Stamm, 2008, p. 170). In developing the Lotus Elise, the organization sought to create a vehicle
that did not compromise the character of prior models, yet illustrated uniqueness by maximizing on
technology and inventiveness. In addition, they wanted the vehicle to be fun and affordable. In
essence, the management team was forcing its employees to change his or her mindset to ensure
they would open their minds

The Day I Rowed Island Poem
Five days we rowed for, all day and all night. The flat water was all that we saw for miles. Solely on
the fault of my crew there had been no wind. Spirits were low and every once in awhile a bird would
crow, but otherwise the only thing we heard was the paddle hitting the water. The sun drowned into
the horizon and met with the water. Pink and orange rays reflected of the sea and the pale white
moon began to shimmer, along with the stars. We had rowed for another whole day, and we still had
no clue when we would see an island. Patiently we waited to see land. During the summer farmers
wait for rain to keep their crops alive. The farmers wait tolerantly trusting the rain with come so the
produce does not die. Just that way we waited to see land so we would not die off at sea.
Night had fallen for a great time when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I continued looking in the same bush I had before the beast had arrived. It was hopeless, I found
nothing but a pile of leaves connected by a steam and a few branches. Next to the bush was an
average tree taller than I am, with most of its leaves fallen to the ground. The branches were lonely
with only a few leaves on each. I still did not find anything; the tree was as dead as everything else
on this island. In frustration I kicked the leaves below the tree; peeking through the brown pile was a
radiant pink petal. I bent down lower to admire the striking flower hidden under the dead leaves. I
pushed away the trees leaves and was shocked not only to see something that was alive, but a lotus
flower. In the middle of the flower was the lotus fruit that supposedly makes one forget everything
they once wanted.
With the fruit in my hand I rushed over to the dog and threw the lotus is the air towards the evil
head. Flamia's sword like teeth split the fruit in half and was swallowed within seconds. My men
bounced up and down in relief and thought the lotus fruit would have the same effect it had on

Price
Tesla produce new type of car with affordable price yet it still in high end user category. For
example the class as same level as BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi, etc. By reducing the price to certain
level could encourage people to buy Tesla car in affordable price.
Perfect Timing
Tesla is not the innovator of electric car. The technology has already existed since 1959, but due to
the factor related to the timing, the company had to cease its operation. The factors involve timing
such as, low oil price, supplies of oil, global warming, people awareness regarding eco friendly or
green environment.
Differentiation Strategy of Tesla
Sales & Marketing
Tesla use swinging by the fences strategy, which implement high risk business, however generate
high return. First, we target the high end customer by producing high class product. We produce the
product at the same level as Maserati, Porsche, etc. We need to make an high brand image for the
brand, especially the Tesla brand is still new to the automobile industry. Telsa has this different
aspect from other car nowadays, Tesla operated by battery or we could say Tesla produce electric
car. After we got quite some revenue to expand our market, we will target new segmentation of
customer, which lower than the above explanation. We produce a product with price range from US$
50,000 – US$ 75,000, which has lower class than Maserati and Porshe. We use this marketing

Political Factors Facing Tesla
(A)
Organisation Overview
Tesla Motors is an American company, founded in 2003 in Silicon Valley by a group of engineers,
who had a vision to create fantastic electric vehicles.
Tesla Motors is headquartered in Pano Alto, California. It has 125 service locations and stores
worldwide, 6000+ employees and has cars on the road in 37 countries. The co–founder and CEO of
Tesla Motors is Elon Musk. Musk is well known as the founder or co–founder of several other
companies that originated before Tesla Motors – Zip 2, Paypal and Space X.
Tesla Motors was named after the inventor, electrical engineer, and scientist Nikola Tesla. Tesla
Motors state that without Nikola Tesla's vision and work, namely the invention of the induction
motor and alternating–current power transmission, Tesla motor's cars would not be a possibility.
Tesla Motors launched production of their first car, the Tesla Roadster, in March 2008. 200 cars had

One of the main political factors facing Tesla in the US are the incentives offered by different states
and cities to Tesla owners. They must co–ordinate with these policy makers and inform the
consumer. In China, the key political factor is that "the Chinese government wants to put around 5
million electric or plug–in hybrid vehicles on its roads by 2020, but to date reports have confirmed
that there are a mere 70,000 electric vehicles plying on China's roads. In order to promote EV sales,
the government has set a target that 30% of government vehicles purchased by 2016 should be EVs.
To reach the target set for 2020, the Chinese government is ready to fund nearly $16 billion to build
electric charging stations. To further promote EVs among Chinese car buyers, the government is
looking to impose a new tax on gasoline engines and has renewed the private–buyer subsidies for
electric–powered vehicles for another three years." (GuruFocus. 2014.

In order to further their control of the EV market, we have developed a strategy to produce an entry
level, luxury electronic vehicle that maintains Tesla's core values which allows them to compete on
a broader scale with electronic vehicles and hybrids. After taking everything into consideration, we
believe that our strategy will allow Tesla to gain market share, gain brand awareness, generate brand
loyalty and earn profits through our new programs. We have developed the following plan for Tesla:
We will develop a brand new, entry level luxury sedan that is fully electric and named the Gen3. It
will still have the core components to a Tesla vehicle, but created with a budget in mind to grow the
potential target market. This will allow more customers to get their hands on a fully electric vehicle
at an affordable price, while still being able to grow the Tesla brand. We have also introduced a
variety of programs in order to improve brand loyalty as well as giving more options for purchase,
including Amplify Your Ride and the Test Drive America campaigns. We will also launch an
integrated marking campaign with advertisements in magazines and though web sources. The first
car will ship in early 2015 and will be issued to those who reserved the vehicle in the second half of
2014. We will host the Test Drive America campaign in the second half of the year after the car has
been fully announced. This will give potential drivers the chance to

Moon Cake Festival Essay
Moon Cake Festival: A Mid–Autumn Festival (Chung Chiu), the third major festival of the Chinese
calendar, is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month. This festival corresponds to harvest
festival s observed by Western cultures (in Hong Kong, it is held in conjunction with the annual
Lantern Festival). Contrary to what most people believe, this festival probably has less to do with
harvest festivities than with the philosophically minded chinese of old. The union of man's spirit
with nature in order to achieve perfect harmony was the fundamental canon of Taoism, so much so
that contemplation of nature was a way of life. This festival is also known as the Moon Cake

The old man on the moon: There is a saying in Chinese that marriages are made in heaven and
prepared on the moon. The man who does the preparing is the old man of the moon (Yueh Lao Yeh).
This old man, it is said, keep as a record book with all the names of newborn babies. He is the one
heavenly person who knows everyone's future partners, and nobody can fight the decisions written
down in his book. He is one reason why the moon is so important in Chinese mythology and
especially at the time of the Moon Festival. Everybody including children, hikes up high mountains
or hills or onto open beached to view the moon in the hope that he will grant their wishes. To
celebrate this sighting of the moon, red plastic lanterns wrought in traditional styles and embellished
with traditional motifs are prepared for the occasion. It is quite a sight to see Victoria Park in
Causeway Bay, or Morse Park in Kowloon, alight with thousands of candlelit lanterns. These
"Lantern Carnivals" also occur spontaneously on most of the colony's beaches. The lantern are made
in such traditional shapes are rabbits, goldfish, carps, butterflies, lobsters and star–shaped fruits.
However, in modern Hong Kong you will also see lantern in the shape of missiles, airplanes,
rockets, ships and tanks. In Chinese mythology, the butterfly is the symbols of longevity and the
lobster the symbols or mirth. Star–shaped fruit is the seasonal fruit in the autumn, and the crap is an
old symbol of the Emperor,

Geographic regions have had great influences on the determinants of innovative activities and
technological changes. It is bound together by a network of shared advantages which has created
regional innovation clusters as well systems of connection globally that brought about long–term

In a market with hundreds of players globally, Tesla had to compete in one of the most mature and
challenging industries in the world. Rather than being influenced by Detroit – Motor City, home of
the Big Three American auto titans, General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler, Tesla decided to start its
company elsewhere. Tesla Motors was founded in 2003 by a few engineers in Silicon Valley, who
"wanted to prove that electric cars could be better than gasoline–powered vehicles" (Tesla, 2016)
Favorable Access to local universities
One of the most outstanding characteristics of the innovation powerhouse Silicon Valley that helped
Tesla as a startup is the intrinsic network of facilities infusing the entire environment. Some of the
most prestigious research universities in the world (e.g. University of California, Berkeley and San
Francisco; Stanford University) are authorities of new technologies and inventions. As a startup,
Silicon Valley's top researchers provided Tesla the opportunity of exploiting these growing pool of
talent by collaborating with them. In fact, Tesla and Berkeley teamed up to research on solar storage
technologies (SolarCity, 2010) that would later on help Tesla to start building solar–powered
charging stations for their electric cars (Parrott, 2015). Tesla had access to a deep reservoir of top
technical talent and knowledge that would help to conduct innovative

Swot Analysis For Tesla Motors
Today automobile industry is recognized at global level. For every automobile company it is
important to enter into foreign market because of increase in competition if companies will not
expand their market they can face a huge loss and every company wants to grow and wants to be
recognized all over the world. For example if manufacturers such as Ford, Toyota or Volkswagen
expanded their market for growth if such manufacturers had still been dealing in their own country
they wouldn't have been able to generate good profit. And competing globally also helps company
to learn new technologies and ideas. Therefore it is important for such automobile companies to
grow globally for long term success and competitive advantage.
The market demand of automobile industry is fragmented because there are different segments in
automobile industry such as commercial, passenger, trucks and buses. Mostly trucks are used for
transportation of goods while buses in many countries is one of public mode for transportation so
from this we can see that overall market demand of automobile industry is fragmented. Even rich
people buy luxury cars while middle class people buy cars as per their budget while people who like
speed there are sports car even for them so in this way market demand of automobile industry is

Background Information On Tesla Motors
Background Information on Tesla Motors
Tesla Motors was incorporated in July 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, who
financed the company until the Series A round of funding. Both men played active roles in the
company 's early development prior to Elon Musk 's involvement. Tesla was founded in 2003 by
engineers who had a mission to change the way the we thought of cars, and to convince our world
that we can produce an electric car better than gasoline powered cars. In 1888 Nikola Tesla invented
the first powertrain for a sports car built around an AC induction motor, which was later patented
and inspired the company's name. The Tesla Roadster was launched in 2008 with speeds of 0 to 60
in 3.7 seconds and with a range of 245 miles per hour. (Tesla Motors) Later in 2012 they launched
Model S the first premium electric sedan. Robotic manufacturing of the Model S at the Tesla
Factory in Fremont, California. Tesla manufactures the Model S in Fremont, California, in an
assembly plant formerly operated by NUMMI, a defunct joint venture of Toyota and General

How Cars Changed Our Society
Automotives
This essay will talk about automotives and how they changed the human society significantly. Cars
are getting faster and faster. Cars are getting more energy efficient. Also cars are getting more
durable and safer.
The automotive industry has changed the human society to the extreme. For example, cars are
getting faster and faster like the 2016 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Visa Super Sports was the fastest
production car there was. It could go up to 256 mph top speed. But the 2016 Bugatti Chiron now is
the fastest production car. It could go up to 288 mph. Faster cars have impacted our lives by
enabling the human race to go to places faster and farther.

The 70's cars weren't very safe, but 2017's new cars are much safer. The problems in the 70's cars
were: tires, steering, chassis, headlights, brakes, no air bags, and a few other problems. Tires did not
have alot of attraction and made other problems even worse. The 2017 car's tires have alot of
attraction to the road. A 70's car's steering was not very good and was one of the problems made
worse due to the tires, but a 2017 car can steer significantly better plus, tires do not add to the
problem. Back in the 70's instead of brake disks there was what was called brake drums (not the
kind of drum that you bang on) which were less effective and less safe. The modern brake disk can
stop a car faster than a brake drum which is safer. Head lights were not safe in two ways: the glare
and lack of sight at night. The modern headlights use better equipment. Also the modern headlights
might have solved one problem (the lack of sight at night), but it did not help the glare. Though the
car industries are trying to solve that problem. The lack of airbags in the 70's car (airbags were first
put in a car in 1973) was not safe at all. A 70's car chassis was not very durable and did not have a
crumple zone (that was already talked about).
This essay talked about how the human society was changed by the automotive. New tech is helping
cars get better and better. Cars are getting faster. Cars are getting more energy efficient. Also cars

offers the best of an SUV with the benefits of a minivan. Tesla hopes to target the family market by

One of the most interesting aspects of Tesla, the niche market luxury electric car maker, is the style
in which Tesla markets selling its electric cars that cost approximately $100,000. Many companies
have attempted to change the car buying process in the auto industry over the last 40 years, with
little success. The process of purchasing a car is fundamentally the same as it was a generation ago.
Additionally, the traditional process remains unpopular today as it has been for decades. In order to
take advantage of an opportunity to develop a new car buying process, Tesla is using marketing that
is revolutionizing the business model in the way cars are sold. Among the aspects of car buying that
are somewhat revolutionary in the auto industry that Tesla is currently experimenting with includes

Tesla 's Model Of A Luxury Sedan
Identification
Tesla has a few elements to their strategy, one being they keep their product line simple. Elon Musk
was highly involved with the production of the Tesla Roadster and as of December 2012 the
production of this model has been ended due to the introduction of the Model S, a luxury sedan.
Another key element of Tesla Motor's Strategy is the technology and product development that they
put into designing their products. According to the text, since Tesla has been founded, over $900
million has been spent on R&D activities to develop the best version of their product. They have
also invested time in researching battery packs, power electronics, induction motors, gearbox's, and
control software (Arthur, 2015).

Analysis and Evaluation
One part of his strategy that I am impressed with is that Elon Musk has created for Tesla is the use
of sales galleries and show rooms as well as the design of the service centers for its customers. Elon
Musk has created a competitive advantage for Tesla with having its customers come to sales
galleries and service centers that are franchises of Tesla which allows for a relationship to be formed
between them and the consumer. The personal relationship that is created when buying from Tesla
helps to put Tesla at the top of mind of its consumers and hopefully creates lifetime relationship
between Tesla and the consumer.
Elon Musk also uses partnerships strategically to better the Tesla brand and further develop them
and use this a source of revenue for the company. Tesla partnered with a number of other companies
including Dailmer, which brought in 15.7 million dollars in development services revenue. Toyota
was also a company that Tesla partnered with to help develop some of their vehicles one of which
being to help develop an electric powertrain system for Toyota's compact SUV the Toyota RAV4.
This generated 45.1 million dollars in revenue for Tesla after a powertrain system sale to Toyota.

1.3 Problem Statement
A problem statement is a move that a document makes to help the reader realize why that is
important. Problem statement that I would like to state in this study is in formal way and informal
way. Problem that has been existing in the Malaysian Automotive Industry is involving the
reputation, government policies, consumer perceptions and competitiveness. One of the problems
faced by Malaysian Automotive Industry is reputation. For many years Proton car is always being
branded as a cheap and below par car manufacturer. Due to this unwanted reputation, consumers are
sceptical about Malaysian cars where it does not guarantee any assurance. Since Proton was formed
in 1985, Proton managed to breakthrough in domestic and international market as an affordable car.
But over the years, Proton has compete aggressively with other automotive manufacturers due to
localization of many foreign manufacturers in Malaysia. Due to the localization, foreign cars has
been in the market in lower prices. This makes Proton as a car that does not have resale value
because the pricing of Malaysian cars depreciates rapidly each year. The second problem that

Competition And Efficiency Of The United States
COMPETITION AND EFFICIENCY
Up until about the 1960s, the Big Three dominated the automotive landscape in the United States.
The oligopolistic trio topped out at about a combined 90% market share in a domestic industry with
only seven remaining producers (International Encyclopedia). The intra–industry domestic rivalries
experienced a new foe beginning in the 60s. Starting with Volkswagen and Toyota, foreign
competition began to chip away at the Big Three's stranglehold of the US market. The emergence of
foreign competitors can partly be attributed to the US government and the $33 Billion Highway Act
of 1956. By greatly enhancing both regional and interstate roads, there was a greater reason than
ever before for the typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The result of these tougher regulations is that "thirty years since CAFE standards were put in place,
new cars in the United States emit approximately 1 percent of the smog–producing compounds
emitted by new cars in the 1970s" (Encyclopedia). However, the selling point for most vehicles did
not hinge on fuel efficiency, it was still based on luxury and features. European luxury imports took
market share away from the Big Three at the top targeting their most expensive offerings, and Asian
imports at the bottom by offering practical, inexpensive cars. GM made a desperate attempt to fight
back by announcing a new, separate headquarters in NYC for its luxury brand, Cadillac with the
goal of "pursu[ing] opportunities with more focus and clarity" (O'Leary and Welch). Nevertheless,
the trend of increasing imports has only gained momentum, with the average consumer having
access to cars from all over the world. The main Economic implication of increased imports is the
decreasing trade deficit and decreasing demand for domestic cars. Throughout the course of the next
last 40 years, the Big Three saw their market share plummet over 30%. This steep drop off is
partially offset by the steadily increasing number of vehicles on the road in the US, but it still
signifies adverse economic benefit to domestic producers. In 2009, GM and Chrysler filed for
Chapter 11 restructuring due to their falling profits and business woes.

The Lotos-Eaters by Tennyson
I. Introduction For many years, Tennyson has attracted readers by what Edmond Gosse called
"the beauty of the atmosphere which Tennyson contrives to cast around his work, molding it in the
blue mystery of twilight, in the opaline haze of sunset." He is one of the greatest representative
figures of the Victorian Age. His writing incorporates many poetic styles and includes some of the
finest idyllic poetry in the language. He is one of the few poets to have produced acknowledged
masterpieces in so many different poetic genres; he implemented perhaps the most distinguished and
versatile of all the written works in the
English language. The first time I read "The Lotus–Eaters"1, I have to admit that I had a hearty

They conclude, "We will not wander more."
C. Symbolism I wonder about the symbolism of Odysseus' enc ounter with the
Lotos–Eaters. After so many years of battle, after so much grief and trauma that Odysseus and his
men spent, they need to escape into a dreamlike world in which they may begin their healing.
Psychologically, the deeper the pain one has experienced, the more often one is drawn to
experiences of ecstasy in order to counter it. On a a deeper level, the Lotophagi experience appears
to be an antecedent of the adventures that follow – with the Cyclops, Circe,
Calypso, and the Sirens4. There are a lot of images in the poem. There is also a brief hint of
foreshadowing; "In which[the island of the Lotos–Eaters] it always seemèd afternoon", meaning that
when you are in a state of happiness, everything seems the same. That only when you are drugged is
that you get in this state of being. "His voice was thin...his beating heart did make". This describes a
primitive rendition of drug addicts.
D. Theme One of the recurring themes in many poems is the conflict between personal fulfillment
and public responsibility. That is, often the character in the poem is pulled one way by something he
or she wants to do, and another way by a sense of duty or obligation that must be performed. This is

Analysis Of Michael Porter's Value Chain
A low–cost strategy in order to gain market share does possess inherent risk, for example, other
competing firms with larger capital may be able to lower their costs, forcing the firm to operate at a
reduced profit of even loss. As a result of technology advances, rival firms could be able to surpass
their present production abilities, thus eliminating the competitive advantage. In addition, several
rival firms could combine their efforts, following a focus strategy and target various narrow markets
could be able to achieve an even lower cost within their segments and as a collective group,
certainly gain considerable market advantage. Consequently, low–cost leadership, when combined
with low prices can bring about a disadvantage which is less customer loyalty (Vokurka & Davis,
2004). Relatively low prices can also result in creating a lasting negative attitude towards the quality
of the product in the mindset of the customers.
Discussion Question 6.3: In his value chain examination, Michael Porter distinguished five essential
quality producing ventures in ordinary business operations. They are: "inbound logistics, operations,
outbound logistics, marketing and sales and service." (Porter, et al 2010) Porter 's emphasis point in
the worth chain portrayal is that organizations can produce the best overall revenues by accentuating
client appreciation in each of these stages. Ideal client appreciation, and in this way maximum net
revenues, result from a mix of either ease

The White Lotus Movement
The White Lotus sect had an appeal to Chinese, most notably to the women and the poor of China,
who found peace in worship of the "Eternal Mother" who was to gather all of her children at the
millennium into one whole family (Wertz, ibiblio.org). The doctrine of the White Lotus includes a
prediction to the arrival of the Buddha (Wertz). The White Lotus Sect was part of a millenarian
movement with Buddhist traditions that across periods of times in history ignited enormous
uprisings, that were very popular, against the ruling dynasties (Theobald, chinaknowledge.de).
For a bit of background on the "Eternal Mother," a passage from "Inspiration: The Organization and
Ideology of White Lotus Sects." The story of the Eternal Mother has been found in the literature of
her sects. In those texts, the mother was described as the ancestor of mankind (Naquin). It is said
that she gave birth to a son and daughter who had married and were in turn the ancestors of all men
(Naquin). She had sent all of mankind and her children, to the "Eastern world" to live on earth
(Naquin). To the Mother's great misery, her children soon "indulged in vanity and lost their original
nature." The Eternal Mother, seeing her kids in this state of being, was filled with sadness. She wept
as she thought of her children (Naquin). She sent her children messages and letters telling them to
return home to her and to stop devoting themselves solely to greed in the sea of bitterness (Naquin).

The Influence Of Tattoos In The American Culture
Tattoos have become more prominent in recent years in American Culture, as well as all over the
world. Approximately one out of every five Americans have a tattoo. The American Heritage
Science Dictionary defines a tattoo as "a permanent mark or design made on the skin by a process of
pricking and ingraining an indelible pigment". Many individuals choose to utilize their own bodies
as an artistic medium to create visible bodily expressions of their inner selves. For many years,
humans have used tattoos to adorn their bodies for multiple reasons – personal independence,
religious beliefs, in remembrance of a loved one, showing allegiance to a country, or gaining
involvement in a social organization, club or gang. Historically, tattoos date back over thousands of
years and were created to beautify, shock, humiliate, or narrate. Tattoos can vary by design,
employing words, images, or a combination of both. There are thousands of fonts to choose from,
varying from basic to highly ornate. Pictorial tattoos are chosen by an individual to represent a
personal event, relationship or connection. Tattoos vary in size, shape, and color, and can be very
influential and meaningful. Aspects of the tattoo depend on the preference of the individual. Two
people could have the exact same tattoo, however, the tattoo could mean something different to each
individual. Often times, individuals even get matching tattoos as a way to show affection or love for
one another. Tattoos have become more

Too much protection from the government
According to (Rabiul Islam, Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani, Bobby Kusuma and Eric Teh Yew

number of protective measures. It is important to protect the national car since it is still an infant
industry. These measures aim to ensure that manufacturers and suppliers are ready to prepare
themselves for domestic competition and eventually compete in the international markets. These
protective measures include tariff and non–tariff barriers, the local content policies and licensing
systems. There are only two national car manufacturers, Proton and Perodua in Malaysia. If to base

The Lady Of Shalott Poem Analysis
These are some of the chosen lines of Alfred Lord Tennyson's from his poetic work; I will start my
claim to peruse my viewpoint by above mention reference because it is relevant about the subject
matter, in addition, these are from the poem of "The Lady of Shalott." Then the second thing is, it's
about mythical LANDSCAPE – among Tennyson's finest achievements that symbolize states of
human consciousness; the dreamlike quality of his vision, combined with his ability to see at close
range with preternatural clarity and detail, rendered his dreams more vivid than our realities.
Ultimately it will get me to explore the THEMES of REALITY and FANTASY from his poetic
diction.
First, Tennyson starts out "The Lady of Shalott" with a quiet description ... Show more content on

The entire poem is constructed in this way, often opting for words–'languid', 'driveth' 'galingale'
'slumberous' etc.–that, especially when describing sleepy imagery, force the reader to slow down
and contain stresses that give the poem a form of hypnotic rhythm, relating back to sleep and
escapism. In addition to his use of phonetics and rhythm, Tennyson includes various images that
make the 'sleep state', and therefore the state the Lotus–eaters offer, more appealing. 'The charmed
sunset linger'd low', 'like downward smoke' and 'than tir'd eyelids upon tir'd eyes' are all examples
that possess connotations of laziness or sleep, and therefore makes a more attractive option as
opposed to the 'toil' experienced by the rest of the world, enhancing the desire for escape. as
accomplishes this by contrasting the positive aspects of the world of escapism with reality and its
negativities.
In the end, to sum up, from the poem "The Lady of Shalott" Tennyson focused on two main subjects
the Lady's "isolation in the tower" as a fantasy and her "decision to participate in the living world"
as reality. If we search for the theme of Fantasy, it is everywhere – all over the poem as the whole
subject matter has come from the imaginative world of Celtic

Tesla Motors (in 2013): Will Sparks Fly in the Automobile Industry?

considerable well during that period. However, globalization allowed foreign carmakers to
maneuver their way into the U.S. market. Intensified competition then began to threaten the market

It is important that they meet these standards to avoid major setback while tarnishing their brand
reputation. The second variable to consider is the U.S. energy loan programs for research and

to remain successful in the market. Tesla has the chance to grow in the alternative energy industry to
degree where they can begin to maximize profits. Because of the consistently rising gas prices, the
demand for more efficient cars are more pronounced than before. Another factor is the recovery
made by countries as a result of the 2008/2009 recession, simply because it plays a pivotal part on a
customer's purchase power. Increased environmental concerns are swaying people towards a more
eco–friendly lifestyle. Society is now associating electric vehicles with an improved social status.

The Guanyin : The Bodhisattva Of Compassion

task, they choose to become buddhas instead of seeking personal nirvaha [sic]" (Yeu 2). Guanyin is
the Chinese name for the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (Overmyer 418). The original script describing
Avalokitesvara is the Lotus Sutra (Overmyer 419). In the Lotus Sutra, Avalokitesvara is known as
"the Regarder of the Cries of the World" (The Threefold Lotus Sutra 319). The Buddha describes the
Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara:
If there be countless hundred thousand myriad koțis of living beings suffering from pain and distress

Additionally, Tesla is the only brand that holds a
"dependable luxuryelectric car" label in the industry with a strong and loyal following of customers.
That customer loyalty could effectively prevent new entrants from achieving equal success in the

Although there are only a few automotive makers in the market, electric car price points are
significantly higher to those that of its substitutes, fueledbased cars. Therefore, this makes the threat
of substitutes exceptionally high. On a broader scope, the transportation industry is vast and
encompasses not only mainstream cars, but also public transportation vehicles such as buses and
trains. Yet, Tesla Motors is the only automotive maker that focuses solely on electric powered
vehicles, whereas other companies also have standard gasolinepowered vehicles. The electric
vehicles' price range varies between
$25,000 $
100,000 so there are various price points for consumers to select an electric car.
5.Competitive Rivalry within the Industry: MODERATEHIGH
Although one can argue that the electric car industry itself has not been the most lucrative industry,
the government's involvement and Tesla Motors' success has sparked competitive rivalry. "Tesla's

Although Malaysia had another arrival of automotive manufacturers which is Perusahaan Otomofif
Nasional Kedua (PERODUA), PROTON has remained as the national car of Malaysia. The
headquarters of PROTON is located in Shah Alam which includes the original Main Plant and Multi
Vehicle Factory (MVF). In 2003, an advance PROTON manufacturing plant was completed in
Tanjong Malim, Perak which cost at RM1.8 billion. This plant is established to meet the growing
demands of PROTON cars. Since its founding in 1985, PROTON has been relying on local market
for the sales and revenue, they made their first international breakthrough in 1986 in a smaller
volume. Their early exports were the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Singapore. Since 1986,

* Based on the video and text of the case, list and briefly describe five areas where either version of
Sametime may increase employee productivity. What do you think will produce the greatest increase
in employee productivity? 1. Improve communication – Employees have a better communication
through the lotus same time. Not only among them, they can also be linked with his /her boss, CEO,
customer, etc. 2. Stress reduction – There is no need to wait lots of time to get, receive or access to
certain information. Employee will not get stress for this kind of problems. 3. Improve access to
information – Employees, bosses or whoever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some other additional benefits of this virtual environment are: * Employee's knowledge can be
totally discovered. * Permanent communication between among areas. * Instant screen
compartment. * Geo–location services.
Q3 * What types of communication are integrated within Sametime's digital environment? What
type of communication is missing? Does it make a difference? * Reciprocal – it goes between two or
more people changing rolls. * Linguistic and extra–linguistic – People communicate through key
board (chatting) or using some familiar codes. * Private and public – The communication inside the
company can be private when it occurs between two employees or public when it goes to everyone
in the organization. (In fact, it is not totally private because the conversation can be followed for the
database system.) * Formal – The messages use a formal code according to the organization
policies. * Horizontal and vertical – It can occur in a same range people or from boss to assistant.
What is missing here is the physical or interpersonal communication. It can make the difference
because when people talk they express a lot of feelings. The main advantage is that employees will
not realize if the other one is tired or in another bad situation.
Q4
* Do you think that "virtual collaboration" using avatars is more or less effective than traditional
methods of collaboration (which include face–to–face, traveling to

Tesco Lotus’ Outsourcing to Linfox (Thailand)
Tesco Lotus' outsourcing to Linfox (Thailand)
Case Study Write–Up for Strategic Management
I. Tesco Lotus background relevant to the subject
According to the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand, Ek–Chai Distribution System Co., Ltd,
known as Tesco Lotus, was formed in 1998 with only 14 "Supercenters" in key regional locations[i].
Today, Tesco Lotus, as it claims on its website[ii], is the leading retailer in Thailand with running
retail business from over 660 Tesco Lotus stores, 88 of which are hypermarkets, provides over
36,000 full–time jobs and have been investing 107 billion baht into Thai economy since 1998.
Its retail multi format business platform includes Hypermarkets and Express Stores, in various sizes,

However, it still had service contracts for moving boxes from A to B as a solution to its logistics and
the service contract did not fully capture those benefits within Tesco Lotus.
While Linfox was on service contract with Tesco Lotus, there were lots of duplications that were not
necessarily valuable to any side in the business. For example both were hiring porters and transport
managers, etc. There was also overlap in accountability. For example, the warehouse was blaming
transport and transport blaming warehouse for losses.
Linfox vision is to be the supply chain partner of choice for customers across Asia Pacific. It is also
focused on earning the right to grow with selected customers as opposed to growing by increasing
customer base. A prerequisite to this is alignment: Linfox had to align itself to customers in order to
earn the right to grow with them to employee the pillars of business: safety, profitable growth,
customer focus, investment, operations excellence, people focus, IT, and improvement to the
environment. Tesco Lotus business was continually changing and evolving and the previous service
contract could not have flexed to meet changing business needs. Customers started becoming
increasingly frustrated and lack of transparency and alignment between the storage and distribution
was witnessed due lack of coordination between the two[viii].
Logistics Expenses of Tesco Lotus accounted for 65% of all costs that required

Tesla Case

  • 1. Tesla Case 1. The PESTEL framework: Political factors: · The federal tax credit was summed up to 7,500$ for what is called qualified plug–in electric drive vehicles. · The U.S. government imposed taxes and at the same time boosted in investment by supporting it through the $1.3 billion invested in the hydrogen powered research. · The government also imposes regulations which might form/deform the shape of the industry thus affecting it negatively positively. Economic factors: · The vehicles that are being sold are expensive so selling such products would have a good impact on the economy. · The economic crisis of 2008 · The gasoline price increase in U.S. Sociocultural factors: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rarity: Tesla Motors is known to have a differentiated product over other firms in the sense that it sells electric based cars. It is the only successfully running electric sports cars in the U.S. At the beginning sales were not enough to sustain the business but tesla motors proved it self after introducing the new model, Tesla Roadster 2. There is only few car manufacturing companies trying to enter this industry which makes Tesla Motors have a competitive advantage. Imitability: This new invention needs a huge amount of capital to invest in. Tesla motors took a huge risk by investing in a new and differentiated product because this business might fail at one point or another. Organization: Tesla motors has got very good resources and technology however, it was bleeding money. As well as it lacks the good culture and trustworthiness of an organization for example when Martin Eberhard, one of the founders of Tesla Motors had led the investors to believe that the cost of the roadster was $65,000 whereas it turned out to be $92,000 sticker price. Through VRIO analysis, Tesla Motors is found to be a valuable and rare company. Of course it is very hard to imitate considering the amount of capital that should be invested, as well as the huge risks taken. Innovation tremendously influences the success of any organization. Businesses steadily must pursue an innovative method of manufacturing goods or providing services. Organizations must accomplish this with the expectation of high productivity and low operating expenses in an effort to remain profitable and competitive within its chosen industry. For example, other than Porsche, Lotus is the only car manufacturer that entertains an automotive engineering consultancy (Stamm, 2008, p. 172). In addition, this company does not mass produce its vehicles, instead, they manufacturer only a few vehicles to ensure quality is not compromised and to maintain the exclusivity of owning such a vehicle. According to Schroeder, Scudder, and Elm (1989), "A generally accepted definition of innovation in a manufacturing context will provide a basis for development of appropriate measures of innovation (not performance), as well as leading to methods for improving innovation (and hence performance)" (p. 1). Lotus strives to enhance the performance of its vehicles using pioneering technology. • 5. The Day I Rowed Island Poem Five days we rowed for, all day and all night. The flat water was all that we saw for miles. Solely on the fault of my crew there had been no wind. Spirits were low and every once in awhile a bird would crow, but otherwise the only thing we heard was the paddle hitting the water. The sun drowned into the horizon and met with the water. Pink and orange rays reflected of the sea and the pale white moon began to shimmer, along with the stars. We had rowed for another whole day, and we still had no clue when we would see an island. Patiently we waited to see land. During the summer farmers wait for rain to keep their crops alive. The farmers wait tolerantly trusting the rain with come so the produce does not die. Just that way we waited to see land so we would not die off at sea. Night had fallen for a great time when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I continued looking in the same bush I had before the beast had arrived. It was hopeless, I found nothing but a pile of leaves connected by a steam and a few branches. Next to the bush was an average tree taller than I am, with most of its leaves fallen to the ground. The branches were lonely with only a few leaves on each. I still did not find anything; the tree was as dead as everything else on this island. In frustration I kicked the leaves below the tree; peeking through the brown pile was a radiant pink petal. I bent down lower to admire the striking flower hidden under the dead leaves. I pushed away the trees leaves and was shocked not only to see something that was alive, but a lotus flower. In the middle of the flower was the lotus fruit that supposedly makes one forget everything they once wanted. With the fruit in my hand I rushed over to the dog and threw the lotus is the air towards the evil head. Flamia's sword like teeth split the fruit in half and was swallowed within seconds. My men bounced up and down in relief and thought the lotus fruit would have the same effect it had on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elon Musk has created a competitive advantage for Tesla with having its customers come to sales galleries and service centers that are franchises of Tesla which allows for a relationship to be formed between them and the consumer. The personal relationship that is created when buying from Tesla helps to put Tesla at the top of mind of its consumers and hopefully creates lifetime relationship between Tesla and the consumer. Elon Musk also uses partnerships strategically to better the Tesla brand and further develop them and use this a source of revenue for the company. Problem statement that I would like to state in this study is in formal way and informal way. Problem that has been existing in the Malaysian Automotive Industry is involving the reputation, government policies, consumer perceptions and competitiveness. One of the problems faced by Malaysian Automotive Industry is reputation. For many years Proton car is always being branded as a cheap and below par car manufacturer. Due to this unwanted reputation, consumers are sceptical about Malaysian cars where it does not guarantee any assurance. Since Proton was formed in 1985, Proton managed to breakthrough in domestic and international market as an affordable car. But over the years, Proton has compete aggressively with other automotive manufacturers due to localization of many foreign manufacturers in Malaysia. Due to the localization, foreign cars has been in the market in lower prices. • 40. Competition And Efficiency Of The United States COMPETITION AND EFFICIENCY Up until about the 1960s, the Big Three dominated the automotive landscape in the United States. The oligopolistic trio topped out at about a combined 90% market share in a domestic industry with only seven remaining producers (International Encyclopedia). The intra–industry domestic rivalries experienced a new foe beginning in the 60s. Starting with Volkswagen and Toyota, foreign competition began to chip away at the Big Three's stranglehold of the US market. The emergence of foreign competitors can partly be attributed to the US government and the $33 Billion Highway Act of 1956. By greatly enhancing both regional and interstate roads, there was a greater reason than ever before for the typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The result of these tougher regulations is that "thirty years since CAFE standards were put in place, new cars in the United States emit approximately 1 percent of the smog–producing compounds emitted by new cars in the 1970s" (Encyclopedia). However, the selling point for most vehicles did not hinge on fuel efficiency, it was still based on luxury and features. European luxury imports took market share away from the Big Three at the top targeting their most expensive offerings, and Asian imports at the bottom by offering practical, inexpensive cars. GM made a desperate attempt to fight back by announcing a new, separate headquarters in NYC for its luxury brand, Cadillac with the goal of "pursu[ing] opportunities with more focus and clarity" (O'Leary and Welch). Nevertheless, the trend of increasing imports has only gained momentum, with the average consumer having access to cars from all over the world. The main Economic implication of increased imports is the decreasing trade deficit and decreasing demand for domestic cars. Throughout the course of the next last 40 years, the Big Three saw their market share plummet over 30%. This steep drop off is partially offset by the steadily increasing number of vehicles on the road in the US, but it still signifies adverse economic benefit to domestic producers. In 2009, GM and Chrysler filed for Chapter 11 restructuring due to their falling profits and business woes. FUTURE ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Lotos-Eaters by Tennyson I. Introduction For many years, Tennyson has attracted readers by what Edmond Gosse called "the beauty of the atmosphere which Tennyson contrives to cast around his work, molding it in the blue mystery of twilight, in the opaline haze of sunset." He is one of the greatest representative figures of the Victorian Age. His writing incorporates many poetic styles and includes some of the finest idyllic poetry in the language. He is one of the few poets to have produced acknowledged masterpieces in so many different poetic genres; he implemented perhaps the most distinguished and versatile of all the written works in the English language. The first time I read "The Lotus–Eaters"1, I have to admit that I had a hearty dislike for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They conclude, "We will not wander more." C. Symbolism I wonder about the symbolism of Odysseus' enc ounter with the Lotos–Eaters. After so many years of battle, after so much grief and trauma that Odysseus and his men spent, they need to escape into a dreamlike world in which they may begin their healing. Psychologically, the deeper the pain one has experienced, the more often one is drawn to experiences of ecstasy in order to counter it. On a a deeper level, the Lotophagi experience appears to be an antecedent of the adventures that follow – with the Cyclops, Circe, Calypso, and the Sirens4. There are a lot of images in the poem. There is also a brief hint of foreshadowing; "In which[the island of the Lotos–Eaters] it always seemèd afternoon", meaning that when you are in a state of happiness, everything seems the same. That only when you are drugged is that you get in this state of being. "His voice was thin...his beating heart did make". This describes a primitive rendition of drug addicts. D. Theme One of the recurring themes in many poems is the conflict between personal fulfillment and public responsibility. That is, often the character in the poem is pulled one way by something he or she wants to do, and another way by a sense of duty or obligation that must be performed. This is the theme ... • 46. Analysis Of Michael Porter's Value Chain A low–cost strategy in order to gain market share does possess inherent risk, for example, other competing firms with larger capital may be able to lower their costs, forcing the firm to operate at a reduced profit of even loss. As a result of technology advances, rival firms could be able to surpass their present production abilities, thus eliminating the competitive advantage. In addition, several rival firms could combine their efforts, following a focus strategy and target various narrow markets could be able to achieve an even lower cost within their segments and as a collective group, certainly gain considerable market advantage. Consequently, low–cost leadership, when combined with low prices can bring about a disadvantage which is less customer loyalty (Vokurka & Davis, 2004). Relatively low prices can also result in creating a lasting negative attitude towards the quality of the product in the mindset of the customers. Discussion Question 6.3: In his value chain examination, Michael Porter distinguished five essential quality producing ventures in ordinary business operations. They are: "inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales and service." (Porter, et al 2010) Porter 's emphasis point in the worth chain portrayal is that organizations can produce the best overall revenues by accentuating client appreciation in each of these stages. The White Lotus Movement The White Lotus sect had an appeal to Chinese, most notably to the women and the poor of China, who found peace in worship of the "Eternal Mother" who was to gather all of her children at the millennium into one whole family (Wertz, ibiblio.org). The doctrine of the White Lotus includes a prediction to the arrival of the Buddha (Wertz). The White Lotus Sect was part of a millenarian movement with Buddhist traditions that across periods of times in history ignited enormous uprisings, that were very popular, against the ruling dynasties (Theobald, chinaknowledge.de). For a bit of background on the "Eternal Mother," a passage from "Inspiration: The Organization and Ideology of White Lotus Sects." The story of the Eternal Mother has been found in the literature of her sects. In those texts, the mother was described as the ancestor of mankind (Naquin). It is said that she gave birth to a son and daughter who had married and were in turn the ancestors of all men (Naquin). She had sent all of mankind and her children, to the "Eastern world" to live on earth (Naquin). To the Mother's great misery, her children soon "indulged in vanity and lost their original nature." The Eternal Mother, seeing her kids in this state of being, was filled with sadness. She wept as she thought of her children (Naquin). The Lady Of Shalott Poem Analysis These are some of the chosen lines of Alfred Lord Tennyson's from his poetic work; I will start my claim to peruse my viewpoint by above mention reference because it is relevant about the subject matter, in addition, these are from the poem of "The Lady of Shalott." Then the second thing is, it's about mythical LANDSCAPE – among Tennyson's finest achievements that symbolize states of human consciousness; the dreamlike quality of his vision, combined with his ability to see at close range with preternatural clarity and detail, rendered his dreams more vivid than our realities. Ultimately it will get me to explore the THEMES of REALITY and FANTASY from his poetic diction. First, Tennyson starts out "The Lady of Shalott" with a quiet description ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The entire poem is constructed in this way, often opting for words–'languid', 'driveth' 'galingale' 'slumberous' etc.–that, especially when describing sleepy imagery, force the reader to slow down and contain stresses that give the poem a form of hypnotic rhythm, relating back to sleep and escapism. In addition to his use of phonetics and rhythm, Tennyson includes various images that make the 'sleep state', and therefore the state the Lotus–eaters offer, more appealing. 'The charmed sunset linger'd low', 'like downward smoke' and 'than tir'd eyelids upon tir'd eyes' are all examples that possess connotations of laziness or sleep, and therefore makes a more attractive option as opposed to the 'toil' experienced by the rest of the world, enhancing the desire for escape. as accomplishes this by contrasting the positive aspects of the world of escapism with reality and its negativities. In the end, to sum up, from the poem "The Lady of Shalott" Tennyson focused on two main subjects the Lady's "isolation in the tower" as a fantasy and her "decision to participate in the living world" as reality.
