Preliminary Steps Notify your chair of your intent to seek tenure or promotion 6-8 months before application is due. Verify your eligibility with your chair.  If necessary, clarify it in writing before proceeding. Establish a deadline (at least 2 months before it is due) for initial review of your portfolio.
Keys to A Successful Approach Always provide evidence and documentation of all your claims. Ensure that support letters (including the chair’s letter) speak to your strengths and weaknesses and indicate the nature and length of relationship with the writers.
