Teen Suicide
• Suicide is “the act of killing oneself
  purposely”
• Each year, 500,000 teens try to kill
  themselves, 4,000 actually die
• Nine out of 10 gay, lesbian, transgender, and
  bisexual have suffered physical, or verbal
  harassment

• Suicide is the third leading cause of death
  for 15 to 25 year olds
Why do teens commit
      suicide?
• Depressed about family situations
• Trying to escape taunting/ bullying
  from peers

• Physical/Mental disabilities
• Relationship problems with boyfriend
  or girlfriend
Behavioral Signs
       to look for

• Lose of interest in activities
• Grades drop
• Using drugs,alcohol, driving to fast
• Talking about death
• Listening to songs about death
Physical Signs
         to look for
• Loss of appetite
• Weight loss
• Trouble sleeping
• Wearing dirty clothes and not caring
  about appearance

• Eight out of ten teens who commit
  suicide try to ask for help first
• Talk to adult that you can trust
• Teen girls are more likely to attempt
  suicide, but teen boys are 4 to 5 times
  more likely to actually die
