THE PARTNERSHIP FOR 21ST CENTURY SKILLS The Partnership for 21st Century Skills is a national organization that advocates for 21st century readiness for every student. As the United States continues to compete in a global economy that demands innovation, P21 and its members provide tools and resources to help the U.S. education system keep up by fusing the three Rs and the four Cs (such as critical thinking and problem solving , communication , collaboration , and creativity and innovation ). While leading districts and schools are already doing this, P21 advocates for local, state and federal policies that support this approach for every school.
21 st Century Readiness in NJ Goals: To help students understand, connect to and act on critical global issues by integrating 21st century perspectives into curricula in all Core Curriculum Content Standards areas To connect student acquisition of international literacies to real world experiences both in New Jersey and beyond state and national borders; and To enhance teacher capacity for 21st century teaching excellence through pre-service education, professional development and opportunities for exchange and study abroad.
Essential Questions What effect does the 21 st Century Skills Initiative have on education and curriculum? How does 21 st Century Learning “mesh” with No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS)? Unit Plan Design Template What are the implications for teachers?
Tasks for Week 2 TASK 1: In your Blog, discuss the implications to districts, schools and you, specifically how your development and pedagogy are affected by these standards. This will be important for you. This technology class is only an introduction. How will you continue to develop? When you job search and interview, what will you look for in a district and in a school to help you meet these required Standards? Task 2: Choose one of the Standards (8.1 or 8.2), then the corresponding strand, grade level, Content Statement and CPI. In your Blog, describe what students are expected to know and do. In your content area, describe a learning activity you could use with your students to accomplish what students are expected to know and do. This is a draft so there is no format for your planning. Think of this as brainstorming. However, be clear and thorough in your description. This will assist you when you begin to think about one of your PERFORMANCE TASKS - the Technology Integrated Lesson.
