Flash for the Real World – Separate Hype from RealityHitachi Vantara
Join us for a live webcast and hear Hu Yoshida, Chief Technology Officer of Hitachi Data Systems, discuss the real world criteria for making an effective decision when evaluating flash storage. With all the noise in the market it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction in order to evaluate the performance, efficiency and economic trade-offs for flash storage.
Specifically, you’ll learn how to determine if flash storage will help you:
Actually achieve the performance you need as you compare technology options.
Realize efficiency gains that extend beyond the promise of flash performance.
Make the economic case for real-world business decisions before taking the leap.
This presentation provides an introduction to the current activities leading to software architectures and methodologies for new NVM technologies, including the activities of the SNIA Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) Technical Working Group. This session includes a review and discussion of the impacts of the SNIA NVM Programming Model (NPM). We will preview the current work on new technologies, including remote access, high availability, clustering, atomic transactions, error management, and current methodologies for dealing with NVM.

VMworld 2015: Advanced SQL Server on vSphereVMworld
Microsoft SQL Server is one of the most widely deployed “apps” in the market today and is used as the database layer for a myriad of applications, ranging from departmental content repositories to large enterprise OLTP systems. Typical SQL Server workloads are somewhat trivial to virtualize; however, business critical SQL Servers require careful planning to satisfy performance, high availability, and disaster recovery requirements. It is the design of these business critical databases that will be the focus of this breakout session. You will learn how build high-performance SQL Server virtual machines through proper resource allocation, database file management, and use of all-flash storage like XtremIO. You will also learn how to protect these critical systems using a combination of SQL Server and vSphere high availability features. For example, did you know you can vMotion shared-disk Windows Failover Cluster nodes? You can in vSphere 6! Finally, you will learn techniques for rapid deployment, backup, and recovery of SQL Server virtual machines using an all-flash array.
The Open Power ISA: A Summary of Architecture Compliancy Options and the Late...Ganesan Narayanasamy
The Open Power ISA enables access to unencumbered open innovation and a mature software ecosystem developed over the last 30 years. In this talk, we will review the major options for architectural compliancy that provide freedom of choice in design, including four recently specified compliancy subsets, separate optional features, and custom extensions. IBM has also recently contributed the Power ISA Version 3.1 to the Open Power ISA. This latest architectural version includes a number of new features developed for the POWER10 server including a new foundation for future expansion via the introduction of an instruction prefix. New capabilities and compliancy implications will be summarized.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
